I wonder if they'll ever do an Ashley Massarro episode. Her affidavit about being drugged so she was paralyzed but conscious while being repeatedly raped/sodomized is pretty disturbing stuff.

Vince then telling her she basically needed to 'stand up for wwe' and not sell that it happened.

Yeah that should be done. Really fucked up.

They didn't mention the Kurt Angle vs Vince wrestling match.

I thought that was this flight as well, confused how that didn't come up.

WALTMAN:
"Obviously [WWE management] made a big deal out of it…the f***in’ door – it’s impossible for it to open at that altitude. So it was really stupid. [The flight before] Vince and Kurt Angle had a take-down tournament in the aisle – but as soon as it happened with [Hennig and Lesnar], they made a big deal out of it…"

not sure where it fits within the sequence of events, as angle referred to it as "the charter flight back from england"

TOMMY DREAMER INDEFINITELY SUSPENDED BY IMPACT WRESTLING

By Mike Johnson on 2021-09-17 14:17:00

Impact Wrestling's Ed Nordholm issued an email to the company's roster and staff today announcing that Tommy Dreamer was suspended indefinitely going forward.

In the email, Nordholm stated that the company was made aware of comments Dreamer made on last night's Dark Side of the Ring and they were "out of line with our core values" as a company. In the episode, Dreamer commented on allegations made about Ric Flair on the infamous "plane ride from hell" twenty years ago.

Nordholm stated Dreamer was "asked to leave effective immediately" from Nashville, TN and was suspended going forward.

Nordholm also asked that if anyone had any concerns of questions, to approach Gail Kim, Scott D'Amore or himself.

PWInsider.com's attempts to reach Dreamer after learning of his suspension were unsuccessful as of this writing.

Welp that's what he gets for sucking Flair's big dick, funny thing is, Flair probably see's Tommy the same way he see's Foley, a schmuck.

No way Flair gets a deal with AEW now.

From the Observer:

The reason for the angle on Rampage where Chavo Guerrero was turned on by Andrade and then beaten down by Penta & Fenix which looked like a character blow-off is that Chavo works as the wrestling coordinator for the TV show “Young Rock” and they are filming the second season of the show now. After the filming of season two, Guerrero is expected back to AEW.

Watched it just there and that’s one of the truly dark episodes - nothing funny about any of it.
Just like Brody, the events are all individually well known but when you put them together in the timeline it actually looks horrific. Everything that flight attendant said speaks to an un-healed trauma and alongside it you have Jim Ross looking genuinely stunned when they asked him about Flair escaping unpunished. You can see him actually make the decision to be honest right there and then, so Tommy Dreamer looks like a complete scumbag when he gets chopped in saying it’s all nonsense.

The show felt 90 minutes long to me given how heavy it was. I don’t think I’ll ever watch this one again, it has given me too much to think about.

Rob Van Dam came out of it looking pretty decent...if only he had a reason for watching Ric instead of stopping him but I suppose not cheering him on makes him the hero of the tale.

The stuff about Ric Flair's infamous antics during the flight isn't that surprising since even both WWE and ESPN mentioned that being a habit of his before in recent shows they've produced but what made Dark Side's episode way more damaging was them managing to actually get the flight attendant who was harassed by him for their show. That turned his antics from being something of an immature gag and chuckle to something way more serious in tone.

Only reason the current heat on Flair isn't even bigger is due to Dreamer taking some of the spotlight away because of his moronic takes over the incident.

RIC FLAIR CAR SHIELD COMMERCIAL CAMPAIGN PAUSED FOLLOWING 'DARK SIDE OF THE RING' ALLEGATIONS

By Mike Johnson on 2021-09-17 17:23:00

The fallout of last night's Dark Side of the Ring episode on "The Plane Ride from Hell" has continued, PWInsider.com has exclusively confirm.

The Car Shield commercial campaign featuring the WWE Hall of Famer as the star of a number off spots for the brand has been "paused."

A spokesperson for Intermedia, the advertising agency which handles Car Shield's commercials told PWInsider.com:

"We take these matters very seriously. As of right now, we are pausing the campaign and we will do our due diligence."

PWInsider.com is also told there is currently no timetable for the spots to return to the airwaves and that the commercial will soon disappear pending additional investigation and decisions.

In the documentary, a flight attendant on the 2002 WWE "Plane Ride from Hell" from London to the United States stated that Ric Flair, naked with the exception of his robe, cornered her in the galley of the plane, making unwanted advances towards her.

In the past, Flair has denied all allegations and as recently as several days ago, told Renee Young on her podcast, " God, I’ve heard about it too. Just when things are going good for me. Listen, you [Renee Paquette] put me on your podcast after. We’ll see how it plays out, because I was there and I don’t care whose name I gotta drop if the heat falls on me. I know who was where and what and who and what took place. I know the whole story."

A day late to watching, but I think I only heard 2 new things.

Hayes punching a sleeping JBL and Dustin spitting his chewing tobacco in the back of the seat, both are quite tame compared to what was already known forever.

I feel like they only included Terri's story of Brock flashing just to set the tone of "wrestlers" do this all the time for the sake of telling the Flair story.

The only real interesting thing from this episode is Dreamer being so defensive of Flair, and Impact's reaction to it.

Id also have to check the timeline since I dont recall, but Jericho as the narrator acting like that is all beneath him when he is one of the all time drunks, I mean come on lol. If he was on that flight he was loaded, guaranteed!

I remember that interview. Honestly, outside of him kinda off-handedly calling Kanyon’s sexuality a choice, I don’t think Flair came off too bad. Kanyon was adamant that he was let go because he was gay. Flair argued that wasn’t the reason. And I kinda side with Flair. Regardless though, he wasn’t being horribly offensive or anything.

I think it’s safe to say that Ric Flair won’t be in AEW any time soon. And Andrade’s career is pretty much dead in the water.

Eh, wrestling has gotten away with so much for so long. None of this is news, but under new light with younger eyes and fresher cultural attitudes, shit is getting called out. Paul Wight might find himself in trouble too, although he could possibly claim to have grown up and changed.

I cannot believe Vince McMahon’s scandals have not been revisited.

What's Paul Wight accused of?

It was in his WCW days. He approached a woman at a bar or something, asked her “Do you know why they call me The Giant?” and proceeded to take his dick out and put it on her shoulder. The boys covered it up for him.

He was young at the time, and the dude has had a very public life and I can’t remember anything THAT bad ever happening again. But he did have quite a few legal issues in his WCW years.

On Brock Lesnar: The chips will fall where they may. I hate the excuse that the “boys will be boys.” But he was basically an impressionable kid in a ridiculous culture. Not defending what he did. But I see people defending Dustin as someone that has “grown” and cleaned himself up since those incidents. Brock fucking hated wrestling for a reason, and he’s possibly changed too. Still a fucking caricature of a manly man, but I think there is a subconscious reason that men in their 50’s are being called out for being absolute cunts versus a jock in his mid-20’s for doing something horrible in a culturally bankrupt environment.

Not an excuse. I’m just trying to lay out an explanation for why the heat might be going where it’s going. If Brock *defended* it now? Big difference. Dreamer is making that shit seem harmless *now*, instead of just shutting the fuck up and showing remorse.

Mr. Nerfect
09-18-2021, 09:56 PM
This sort of nightmare is why the ratings and the demos and all that shit don’t matter like people celebrate them mattering. Wrestling can be a fucking trash fire. Ric Flair was, in all likelihood, about to debut in AEW. He might even already technically be under contract, publicly known or not, and collecting tens of thousands of dollars a week from the Khans. They might distance themselves now, but it could still ring hollow to advertisers, executives, fans and commentators. Could you blame a company for not wanting to prop up wrestling — AEW or WWE — with a platform, or advertisers desperately wanting to avoid being associated with this carny bullshit?

And I’m not about to pretend I’ve been here calling for Ric Flair’s head. This shit makes hypocrites of us all. And it’s just ugly. And it’s why Nike, their problematic shit aside, doesn’t give a fuck about catering to me. Or you. They want us to buy their shit, but they don’t want to see us actually wearing it.

Damn. If only Lesnar had been gifted with both the necessary character AND the ability to actually physically stop the bullshit he was witnessing. Just watched... Man... What a watch.

The airhostess was so genuine in her approach, struck me during her Hall section she said she was afraid then backtracked for fear it was too strong of a word. Im 6 Foot tall, 115 KG and if a guy the size of Hall grabbed me on a flight full of his mates and threatened me mid Atlantic I would be shitting myself!

As well as the obvious things said about people RVD saying he saw Flair accosting (for lack of a stronger term?) the Airhostess and doing nothing is extremely disappointing to say the least.

The Airhostesses being present while Flairs carrying on his "act" mid aisle is bad but I can see how you might in that toxic culture let it go but watching him corner her and proposition her naked is well and truly across the line.

Jim Ross seems genuinely upset and remorseful that he was in charge of that culture while also sounding somewhat powerless to fix it. How do you fix a culture like that when the "made guys" get a pass...

You know... because somehow Lesnar's behavior might somehow have "an explanation for why", even if it's "not an excuse", because he was "he was basically an impressionable kid in a ridiculous culture".

Damn. If only Lesnar had been gifted with both the necessary character AND the ability to actually physically stop the bullshit he was witnessing. Too bad as an actual adult in a difficult situation he only had the physical skills and not the character and balls to do the right thing, never mind not actually allegedly participating in it.

Fuck off with that bullshit, Nerfect, you pathetic, moron, POS, hypocrite.

Hahaha, there’s no way you’re an actual lawyer.

* You’ve never displayed any actual knowledge that isn’t general knowledge or easily accessible over Google.

* You’re incapable of making a reasonable argument and let your immature and insecure bias overtake every point you ever make.

* You can barely even read or interpret what people have said and why.

I wasn’t defending Brock, you muppet. I was answering #fan’s actual question and explaining why people are more mad at a 50-whatever man talking shit in 2021 than a 24 year old kid in his first month or so in a new job then.

You are a perfect example of what Gertner was talking about re: Arn/Sid. If it were an AEW wrestler who did any of those things, you actually wouldn’t condemn it at all. You hate Vince/WWE so much, because you’re still a mark who falls for the babyface/heel paradigm, you actually latch onto gross shit like this to defend your insecure fandom and target people you want to see fail. Don’t you ever call ANYONE else a hypocrite.

You’re a fake lawyer, a fake person, a bad take and riddled with bad taste. Every time to try and mouth off to me, I absolutely destroy you. Even people in the AEW thread admit you’re an embarrassment to the fandom. Stop trying to hang with the big boys. You are just not fucking smart enough.

This is why the show will be dropped / canceled. They will start to run with stories that "get too close" and "fuck you" money will win.

Nah. They covered Vince McMahon covering up a murder. People seem to be rabid and ready for this sort of thing.

It's okay Jericho has FORGIVEN Tommy Dreamer on Instagram!

Jericho himself is going to end up canceled one day, so he better just keep watching his own shadow, to be honest.

I love that people blame Sid because Arn is a better in ring worker

I think people just preferred Arn as a person too.
The version I’ve heard the most is Sid turns up at Arn’s door with a chair arm or leg and when he gets there he throws it away but Arn comes out and stabs him with some scissors.
Sid gets hold of the scissors and just pokes Arn full of holes until he nearly kills him.

Interesting that they mentioned that Vince and Linda were on board the plane. Multiple people referenced them being there in the episode if I'm not mistaken. But the reality was they weren't even on that flight. Makes me wonder what else was embellished for the sake of the show tbh.

Sepholio

I imagine they were probably merging multiple plane ride stories all into the plane ride from hell. Seems like they are getting things mixed up with the flight that Vince and Kurt Angle were fighting on and when Michael Hayes was so shit faced he tried to pee on Linda or whatever.

And how does Tommy Dreamer begin to build a life in a post canceled society if indeed Ric Flair did not do it because the flight attendant has a serious criminal history?

Will Dreamer be able to return to his employers or with the IMPACT of his words have left a bruise too deep?

Will Shawn Michaels be remembered as the HEART BREAK RAPIST? Or will the stories amount to nothing because he is a "made man"?

Great episode that brings back a lot of memories with both Mortis, who I thought looked great when I was a kid, and the DDP gimmick he ran hitting Diamond Cutters on randoms throughout the building.

James Mitchell made it tough trying to get through. Especially at the end where they all admit to knowing he was probably going soon. Really sad.

Jordan
09-24-2021, 09:04 AM
I feel like James Mitchell was leaving out a likely important element of the story. Drugs. No way those two guys were hanging out in a house for days and days on end and "not sleeping for 3 or 4 nights in a row" without doing meth or something. I think that my favorite part of this one was hearing from Cage and The Bucks but otherwise I didn't enjoy this particular story. Also I feel like they referenced "gay wrestlers" and then showed a bunch of characters that were "gay" but the performers weren't, like Goldust and Adonis. I don't know about Adonis but I assumed he was straight. Anyway, just not a great story to be honest. Felt like with Mitchell controlling the narrative mostly that it comes off like his version of the Kanyon story.

As much as I love a good WWE takedown, I didn’t think there would be much of one here. Not related to Dark Side but Kanyon related so I’ll throw it here: I remember during his “Positively Kanyon” run mocking DDP they showed Kanyon doing a book signing and the announcers were baffled at the enormous line to get his autograph. I didn't realize Cage or the Bucks were good friends of Kanyon's, so it was interesting to hear their stories. Just like 75% of the guys from his era, Kanyon had those "demons" to fight with. The James Mitchell stories depicted him as a crazed lunatic and like someone already mentioned, I'm sure drugs were a huge part of his mind and mood.

I don't think the WWE buried him because he was gay and I'm sure his downfall in WWE was due to other factors behind the scenes that got a lot of guys released in those days.

Cena and especially Flair (what a tool this guy continues to be on the show lol) were kind of dickheads to him. I kind of get Cena defending his company, but Flair is just an ass kissing dickhead at that point. He probably called in and was told to be harsh because needed the money

Kanyon was a big fish in a smaller pond in WCW during the height of his run. They were desperate for anything to work.. There were so many A list too stars during Kanyon's WWE time that he got swallowed up. Plus he like alot of those guys that moved over from WCW had that "WCW stink" to them in WWE's eyes. That was a mediocre episode of I’m being honest. The story was pretty well told but they really scraped the barrel for talking heads. The AEW people don’t add anything at all. Sinister Minister provided virtually all of the important information so DDP and Jericho were essentially just there to say “I knew him but I didn’t know much about him.”

I like how Sinister Minister’s whole thing is “Remember in the 90’s when not outing a gay guy meant you had to endure regular punishment throttlings?”
Sinister Minister went up in my estimations though, for pulling a gun on the gay and not saying “Do you feel lucky, punk?!” because I feel that would be a hateful cheap shot well beneath a man of the cloth.

Rob Feinstein/Ring of Honor: To Catch a Predator - this is a huge story that seems to have been lost in time, let's dig this dirt up! I'd love to see a good story on the origins of ROH as well.

ECW - Very broad topic that could probably be an entire season let alone a double episode. I'd like to see The Darkside guys spin on ECW.

Zandig - Obviously a niche choice and very unlikely but this guy is fucking interesting. I don't know a lot about him but I do know the story where they tried to interview him for Nick Gage or someone else. Dude is insane and probably has a lot of horror stories.

Hulk Hogan - He's just a giant fraud so a big expose shitting on him would probably be really fun to watch.

CM Punk - Not likely to happen now that he's in AEW but I could see a CM Punk/WWE medical story episode.

It’s pretty famous in wrestling circles, but are you going to tell me “World’s Most Famous Athlete Has Career Ruined By Japan’s Most Famous Knee Kicker” isn’t a story? If so, I question your judgment.

I think people know the match but not all the behind the scenes craziness.

Supreme Olajuwon

I think there’s a decent argument that Ali is the most famous athlete in the history of the world. You can’t tell his story without talking about how Inoki fucked up his legs

Hulk Hogan - He's just a giant fraud so a big expose shitting on him would probably be really fun to watch.

Pretty sure this won't happen until after Hogan is dead. Then, we're guaranteed to have at least three different docs about how full of shit he was outside of also being a worldwide pop culture phenomenon.

Plane crashes are more interesting than plane rides from hell. Ric Flair could win all of his sympathy back in one episode.

He could. Until the episode airs and it’s finally revealed that the plane crashed because Ric was drunkenly waving his dick in the pilot’s face.

It also highlights how full of shit Triple H is about why Chyna wasn’t inducted. Sunny was inducted in 2011. She was doing nudes online at that point. It ain’t hard to Google her and add the word nude at the end and see everything she’s got. The fact they kept out arguably their most transcendent women’s star for porn when is hilarious and I wish somebody would call his dumb ass out on it.

James Steele
10-19-2021, 09:38 AM
I imagine the entire shitshow surrounding her drug use and the reality shows didn't help either. Chyna was a far bigger star than Sunny. Nobody outside the wrestling bubble remembers Sunny.

Let’s not pretend WWE has a morality clause when it comes to inducting people with sketchy/shady/outright shitty pasts or is above ignoring/sweeping previously heinous acts. There reason Chyna isn’t in the hall is because they don’t/didn’t want her in or want her there.

The Magnum Story was only frustrating because I would have loved to see where his career went. I'm guessing he wouldn't have saved JCP, but he was just such a fun guy to watch that he'd have done some amazing things. That said, in the end, they definitely made it into a more feel-good story. And you really can't make it anything else because the guy seems so well adjusted (although I'm sure I'll find out he's some asshole)
