WrestleMania 39 was close to perfect. Holy shit what a show. I even liked Titus O’Neil on commentary.

There’s a lot of fluff, but I skipped so little. I skipped the women’s build because I had seen that on NXT. Besides that? Everything was…great.

I’m getting Royal Rumble 2020 vibes. I accidentally tuned in for the match and legit thought it was the best Rumble ever. It has to contend with ‘92 for legacy reasons, but it was exhilarating. This Mania night has 17 in its sights. Legitimately.

Every match was exactly what it needed to be. The “worst” thing on the show was Pat McAfee’s bit, which was still fun. He got to do an insane perch. Just gold. I am not disappointed in this show in the slightest.

Watched at a friend's house, and we started two hours later. My thoughts:

- Theory/Cena was a match on this show.

- Tag team showcase match was actually a lot of fun.

- Rollins vs Logan Paul was very good. Like others, much to my chagrin I have to admit that Logan Paul just has "it". If he actually decided to be a full time rassler he could be huge.

- Trish/Lita/Becky vs Damage CTRL was a match on this show.

- Rey Mysterio vs. Dominik was pretty good. Probably the best showing from Dominik that I have seen. Crowd was hot which made it even better.

- Rhea Ripley vs. Charlotte Flair was good, but I was getting a bit tired and was a bit distracted by Charlotte's face and Rhea's Rudy Giuliani melting makeup..... think I might have to watch it again just due to how everyone here saying it was great....

- The Usos v Sami/KO was really great. Match/moment of the night.... couldn't help but imagine that ending with the three Helluva kicks but in an alternate world where Sami was fighting Roman at WM...... but I am really happy for The Usos getting to where they are....

Overall a strong day 1. Will watch day 2 but will have to start after work so will be "delayed" again...

Char/Rhea was the match of the night, I dislike Uso matches they have neutered "Superkicks" to the point where they mean nothing.

More detailed thoughts:

* Cena vs. Theory was really good. Because he’s so Hollywood, I don’t expect Cena to actually wrestle. He did a great job. Not everything needs to reinvent the wheel. A great choice for opener. I don’t where Theory goes now (I can see him losing to Bron Breakker on Raw), but this was “good shit, pal.”

* The WrestleMania Showcase was absolutely stupendous. Heading in, I hoped it would be more Money in the Bank from Mania 21 than an afterthought. Made every single guy look great. Just a whole lot of fun.

* Logan Paul vs. Seth Rollins was great. Logan gets it. At the start, their opening stuff looked weird. Like it was “slow” or something. Not a major criticism, it was just jarring. Then they did amazing shit. I had the thought at one point that this was Benoit/Angle. Just great.

* The six-woman tag was fine. It’s so great to see Trish back. I liked the presentation of the whole thing. Probably the best I’ve seen Dakota Kai look. Lita looked like she moved in slow motion at times, but she also did clever shit. This was good. It felt great at the time, because it was so cleverly put together. I get why people will say it was the “worst,” but this honestly was a totally fine match.

* Rey/Dominik delivered like I expected it to. I’d say it exceeded expectations, but I honestly thought it was going to be excellent. Dominik is marvellous. Michael Cole showed up on commentary. Honestly, commentary the whole night was PrettyCool.

* Rhea/Charlotte was great. I like Charlotte. It’s always weird commenting on a woman’s plastic surgery. I hope she is mentally okay. In a completely selfish way…I think it works for her as a TV entity. Ric had shit done too. It’s like the pressure of being a Flair influences these people to become more…entered into themselves. I dunno, I thought she looked amazing here. I loved her reaction at the end of the match. I always have this feeling that she might be “done.” Rhea rose to the occasion.

* Miz/McAfee was fun. You could tell the crowd was winded here. Thought McAfee could have used better music. But this was good TV. It was a bit weird to hear Michael Cole just steamroll right over Pat/Vince on Pat’s record. That could have been oversight or a rib. I dunno.

* The main event was great. Not an all-time favorite of mine or anything, but everyone showed up and it was well constructed. From memory they blew past the shitty 1D name too. I felt Cole made it a point to call it “Day One & Done.” Good stuff. Weird to think of Owens as a two-time Mania main eventer.
