Well sure, but we all know the Bats is most likely going to lose to Joker in the early stages of this movie. Then come back to defeat or stop him. It's the classic senerio. Knowing that, the suit upgrade has to be for a reason other than it was time...

Kalyx triaD
06-18-2007, 09:41 PM
Actually Batman's known to upgrade his stuff on a regular anyway. Behind the scenes, they're not gonna produce two costumes.

Lock Jaw
06-18-2007, 10:56 PM
What reason does Batman need to upgrade his suit other than "it works better for fighting crime"? He doesn't need to lose to spur change...

Not saying that he still can't lose... but it doesn't have to be the reason for the change.

Guys, guys, the reason for the upgrade is to look hot & sexy while fighting crime.

I take it Fox is building stuff exclusively for Wayne/Batman because that isn't a military vehicle. Engine's in the rear wheel, you turn "with your shoulders", body moves up and down, and those guns are pretty straight forward.

Nicholsan's Joker is kind of a mix between the non-murderos joker of the early years, and the current psycho version. Although it is infuenced much more heavily by the former.

Ledger's Joker seems to be taken 100% from the current version(I'm assuming) so it's kind of unfair to compare which actor will nail the part better. But I'm guessing Ledger's will be more enjoyable. He's probably one of the most versitale actors in hollywood today, and I believe he'll nail it.

Read the link above, Ledger's is going to be influenced by the very early appearances of late 30s/early 40s, and I'd imagine some of the early 70s stuff as well.

To me it looks like at some point in his criminal career, Joker was sliced by someone that maybe thought he laughed too much. Cut to make him look like he always had a grin. He's decided to use it as part of what makes him what he is. Calls himself 'The Joker', adds makeup, etc.

I just skimmed through this so I'm sorry if it's been covered but is Harvey Dent going to be a 2nd villain in this movie or is it just going to be a buildup for the 3rd one like they did with the playing cards at the end of Batman Begins?

And for the record Aaron Eckhart is a phenomenal choice to play Dent.

I've always enjoyed Heath Ledger's work - I thought he was great in A Knight's Tale, he was very entertaining in Ten Things I Hate About You (especially when you take that movie for what it was, really), and he has shown great diversity between roles in movies like Lords of Dogtown, The Brothers Grimm, Brokeback Mountain, The Patriot, and now The Dark Knight.

That said, even I was pretty skeptical when I first heard he'd been signed as the Joker, but honestly, with every photo, promo shot, soundclip and consequently video piece that has been shown of him in this role, I can, without hesitation, say that my fears were completely unfounded and that Figs is absolutely right. I don't even know why I doubted that he would be good. He's one of those actors that genuinely puts himself completely into a role, and I'm yet to see a movie where I haven't enjoyed his work (even if I haven't enjoyed the movie *cough*brothersgrimm*cough*). Dark Knight looks like it won't be an exception.

Not that I thought it would be, really.

This movie is going to be amazing.

I wouldn't mind seeing Robin in a future film, as long as he's used as a plot device in which he is murdered and Batman strikes out for vengeance. I mean, really, a 10-year old kid isn't going to survive out there against Joker and Scarecrow and those other crazy fucks. Not in Nolan's Gotham.

Just got back from seeing this. I loved it so much I think I might cry. Gonna go see it again tomorrow, in fact. THIS POST WILL CONTAIN MANY SPOILERS, so they're gonna be in black. No fancy code for me.

I'll cut right to the chase: Heath Ledger was fantastic. I wasn't creeped out seeing him up there, but I was deeply saddened. Ledger's Joker is sadistic, psychopathic, cold, terrifying and hilarious. He was brilliant. You could really feel the Killing Joke influence throughout the movie, from the many backstories of the Joker (which I loved, by the way) to his overall "everybody is capable of becoming a madman - all they need is one really bad day" theory, though in the film he obviously applies it to Harvey Dent rather than Gordon. The character was just done really well - hell, he was even sympathetic, for small, minute flashes of humanity before he'd flash a twisted smile or start laughing - nay, cackling - or blow something up and remind you this is one dangerous motherfucker.

Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman all recaptured their form from Begins seamlessly. Plus, a nice cameo from the good Dr. Crane made the film really feel like a continuation of the story from the first - not just a sequel made for money, but made because there's more to tell. I like the airtime they give to Lucius Fox in this series. Freeman has done an excellent job, but he isn't one of the most lovable old people on film for no good reason.

Aaron Eckhardt was an excellent addition as Harvey Dent. Smooth-talking, successful, but prone to flashes of rage Harvey Dent. The development of the Harvey character and consequent transformation into Two-Face is one of the tragic elements of the character that was so sorely, SORELY missing from Tommy Lee Jones' hamfisted attempt a decade ago, so it's nice to see him done justice (no pun intended). Definite influences from TAS in terms of the set-up and eventual appearance of the character, minus the ongoing psychological B-story. Anyway, it was done really well.

There was only one scene that I had a gripe with. At Bruce's fundraiser for Harvey, the Joker shows up and causes some mayhem and throws Rachel out the window, who Batman dives after to save. The scene effectively finishes with Batman and Rachel having survived a massive fall, Harvey locked in a closet somewhere and the Joker in a penthouse full of scared people. But... the scene never resolves itself? Am I to believe that the Joker just walked out of there and let everyone go? Or that Harvey just made his way out of the closet? And even if he did, why wasn't he confused as to why Bruce assaulted him from behind to shove him in there in the first place? I dunno. There was just something... unfinished... about that scene, but before anyone can really reflect on it, the film keeps going and we chalk it up to suspension of disbelief. BUT, that is a small gripe for a near three-hour long film that otherwise I find very hard to find major fault with.

The story was told well, there were nice twists and turns along the way, excellent special effects, one of the most fitting and engaging scores that I've heard for a superhero flick, and the film was wrapped up in a way that dealt with whatever had been brought forth in the film, but left it nice and open for the next chapter in the saga.

Loved it. Loved it. Loved it.

I'm not much of a comic book fan, or even a huge Batman fan, but definitely gonna try make an effort to see this when it comes out. I only recently watched Batman Begins on DVD, having been put off the franchise after the terrible Clooney/Kilmer films, but must confess to enjoying it. I looooooooove the Nicholson Joker though, so I'm looking forward to Ledger's performance because it seems to have gone in a very different direction, which is great because he would have found it very difficult to top Jack had he tried to play the same kind of Joker.

My best friend isn't the biggest Batman fan ever, and he knows his movies. He said it was fucking great, and called it one of the greatest movies he has ever seen, and compared it with The Godfather. Not to try and set expectations too high, or anything. :shifty:

Going to see it tomorrow. Should be awesome. :y:

You can walk to the theater and buy your tickets with cash.

I'm seeing this on Friday morning at 9am. Figure all the crazy fan boys will have seen it at either midnight, 3am or 6am prior to me, adults will have work as it is not "Batman Day" (for them, anyways) and little children will not be going to the movie unaccompanied, nor this early. It is summer break after all.

My logic is flawless, right?

My logic is flawless, right?

Yep. As is the logic of the other 200 people in the queue who thought the same thing.

Seriously, don't underestimate this one. Hell I was looking at booking for an IMAX screening and all the good seats are gone in every screening until about August 5th or something (it comes out here 7/25)
