ROFL the gamefaq boards are flooded with arguements about whether lynard skynard are racists for using confedorate flags as symbols.

I guess Jamie Noble, the Brisco Bros., and the Dukes of Hazard are racists too.

Kane Knight
04-12-2008, 11:44 AM
It's a symbol of hate, but I hardly see what that has to do with Rock Band.

U-Warrior
04-12-2008, 01:11 PM
Back in the civil war days, maybe. Symbols can change over time, and these days its a symbol of southern pride. It means nothing more thanbeing proud of where you're from.

Although I won't dispute that some southerners still use it as a symbol of hate, I doubt lynard skynard is one of them, judging from their music and songs like Curtis Lowe.

Kane Knight
04-12-2008, 06:14 PM
LOL. The Swastika is just a symbol of German/White Pride. nothing more.

#BROKEN Hasney
04-12-2008, 06:26 PM
Meh, I ahve a wired 360 guitar, a lot of USB mics work with Rock Band so all I need to do is pick up some drums. The UK price is not an issue if you have a Guitar Hero game TBH.

But, if you need to buy the whole pack then buy a Wii first if you don't have one... It's cheaper :shifty:

Kane Knight
04-12-2008, 07:42 PM
Yeah. I mean, short of the drums, I've been able to do everything since launch anyway. I have the GH Les Paul, a headset for the XBL shit so I can do vocals, and since I don't have the space for drums that's all that matters right now. I'ma pick up a USB mic at somepoint, and I've ordered a RB guitar, but if you're really having trouble buying all the optional accessories for a luxury item....

Yeah, that's a fair comparison.

Yeah, the vow to turn the south into a "nigger's graveyard" holds no ground here.

I didn't know the XBL headset works for vocals. Even better.

Glad to be of some help.

I'll be honest, though, it's not as good as the USB mics from what I've seen. But it works well enough.

Well the civil war was a little under a 150 years ago, and wwII was just over 50. So there's been a lot more time for the symbol of the confedorate flag to change it's meaning.

Point is, people generally don't look at the confedorate flag as a symbol of hate anymore. Walkout the door and you'll see a lot of merchandise brandishing the flag. All this stuff wouldn't be out there if it was still a symbol of hate.

Besides, look at it this way. The change over the years must really piss off the southerners that are still racist. That should at least appeal to you.

Dear Spilchuk,

Crue loves youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Hey everybody,

On April 15th for Xbox 360 and April 17th for Playstation 3 , we will be releasing Mötley Crüe's new single “Saints of Los Angeles". This will make the Crüe the first ever band to release a single through our game. More info below.

“Saints of Los Angeles” by Mötley Crüe (master)

It will cost $0.99 (80 Microsoft Points) for a limited time.

Spilchuk is gonna die of a heart failure here as soon as he reads that.

Except, of course, that things didn't end with the Civil War. You're not that naive, Figgy.

As far as the "most people don't consider ti racist," crap, I'd say that was patently false, since it's still a controversial issue wherever it's displayed. Sorry, real world issue>hypothetical change.

Kane Knight
04-15-2008, 05:26 PM

U-Warrior
04-15-2008, 07:33 PM
Picked them all up.

Only did guitar, and Message in a Bottle and Call Me are pretty fun. Simple Man is boring, and Motley isn't a very good song, and moderately fun to play. Should be in a harder tier, I'll say that much.

04-16-2008, 01:05 AM

Considering I've had no drum experience, I'm doing fairly well. I'm almost done beating solo on Hard with them, but I seriously need some schooling with the kick drum.

I know the kick drum sucks and all, but what kind of real drum exercises can I do to get better with using the kick off-beat with the drums or alternately with the drums? I know it's a ridiculous question...but someone might have an answer.

Kalyx triaD
04-17-2008, 06:21 AM
Listen to the Transformers Movie Theme by Lion and try to replicate the drum pattern with one arm as a snare, one with keys or change as a snare, and your foot for obvious reasons. This is how I got started on drumming way back when. It's an easy beat that gets you on your way to kick drum/snare patterns.

U-Warrior
04-23-2008, 06:49 PM
They never promised that album DLC would be available right away. Any source you got that from was bullshit.

Even if they did, so what? It's not like they all got together and said "Hey guys, lets fuck over all the people waiting for who's next!"

The reasons we havn't seen dlc till now, are technical in origin, most likely. And as for the who in particular? I would guess that given the amount of people that want it, they didn't like the charts enough, and decided to perfect them some more. So if I'm right, its a good thing.

You aren't winning any battles by not purchasing dlc. Harmonix is working their ass off in case you couldn't tell by the sheer amount of dlc we've gotten. You're depriving yourself of great dlc, and for what? To spite a bunch of people who are giving you more dlc than any other company ever has?

After everything we've been given, I don't see how anyone can complain. Yeah its an annoyance not to have Who's Next, but its an understandable one. Damning the rest of RB's DLC because it's not out, seems like overkill.

Hmmm I never said it had to be available RIGHT AWAY. Hell it's been like what, 6 months since Rock Band came out? And they were touting the full album of Who's Next since before it came out.

I could give a rats ass less about what has already been released, because nothing that's been released on DLC has made me go "OMG I GOT TO GET IT RIGHT AWAY!" And I really don't play it enough to make me want to buy songs that I'm only mildly interested in. I'd rather save my points for songs that I'm genuinely excited to be able to play.

I merely stated that I'm not spending any of my points on any other song until they release Who's Next or at least a good portion of the album. It's called being picky and not being like a lot of people and gobble up whatever they throw at us.

I have not played the game enough to where I'm tired of playing the main songs, so unless I have a good reason to buy songs, I am content with the songs that are already on the game.

U-Warrior
04-23-2008, 07:40 PM

Nirvana full album is on the way, and complain to ac/dc about them not being in. I'm sure they've tried.

So by rockband 5, you will get another pack.

I'd advise getting it from Play.com. The Instrument Pack is £99 and the game is £40 so altogether it's about £30 cheaper then if you bought from somewhere else. Also use the code experience08 for a 5% Discount. It's not much I know but it's better then paying the £180 everywhere else expects you to.

"Starting Sunday 5/4 pre-order the new album Indestructible on BestBuy.com and get a code to redeem "Inside The Fire" and "Indestructible" on June 3 for Xbox 360 RockBand for free."

Quick note: this is from the Disturbed site. We haven't totally nailed down which tracks are going to be available yet, but we'll let you know when we do.

If you pre-order the album online at BestBuy.com, you will receive a code which you may later use to redeem two free Disturbed tracks (as I said earlier, TBD) on Xbox Live. The promotion itself is exclusive to the Xbox 360, however, the Disturbed tracks will be publicly available for both platforms simultaneously, even if you do not opt into this special.

They will also be available separately, as singles, or as a bundled pack. Stay tuned, and if you have questions, please keep them to this thread. Thank

Harmonix announces Rock Band II
By Phil May - 15 May 08
You're officially going to need a bigger garage...!

Harmonix has announced that Rock Band is about to get a sequel, and a "fully fledged sequel in line with the sort of sequel you'd expect from other big game names" sayeth Harmonix. As yet they're playing things quite close to their chest with no massive announcement about new or updated peripherals (it's about time someone gave you something wilder, guitar wise, than just a Fender or Gibson knock off, don't you think?)

The sequel's scheduled for 2009 and will feature the same downloadable content sharing dynamic as the first title. More details when we get 'em.

Awesome, awesome and awesome. I  this game.

Wasn't too bad getting this home in the end, just abit bulky rather than heavy. Completed the drum and guitar solo tours on easy, but it says I've only done 30 of 60 songs, are the other songs from the bonus tours?

Played some multiplayer earlier, only with one other person on the drums, but to have two people in the same room playing this game is amazing.

Nearly finished the Guitar Solo tour on Medium. Downloaded a shit load of DLC looking forward to playing through it all tomorrow when the girlfriends round. Sing on key.

:shifty:

One of the first things I'd mention is make sure to take advantage of octaves. You can sing up an octave or down, it doesn't matter. You probably already know that, but it doesn't seem to register with some people. If you don't know the song, you can bullshit it with the vocals on. I prefer to have the vocals off, but some of these songs I don't know or barely know, so I fake it...

D Mac
05-24-2008, 01:30 AM

Requiem
05-24-2008, 04:57 AM
The guitar on this game is more realistic. As in, they actually got real musicians to make the note charts. They don't add in triple chords or random fucking cord changups for no reason.. etc. That said, guitar is still very fun regardless of the difficulty level. That, and there are a lot more songs now with the DLC.

Hell, the drums alone are worth buying this game for if you want a challenge.

jcmoorehead
05-24-2008, 05:06 AM
I find the Guitar to be fairly easy compared with GH3 but a lot more fun. I've only played through on Medium at the moment but I'm gonna move up to hard today but the songs are a hell of a lot more fun to play then it was in GH3.

It feels as if you are actually playing the song and you enjoy playing the song wheras in GH3 for the majority of the songs it just feels like you're hitting buttons and the only though you have it "I can't wait till this piece of shit is over."

Disturbed316
05-24-2008, 05:56 AM
Yeah, I think the guitar section is much better than GH3. They GH turned into how stupidly difficult they could make it for people, rather than making it fun to play, which is probably why I havent touched it since it came out.

Hope they put some HIM DLC up at some point in the future, some of their songs would be perfect for this.

Is there only a guitar tour and not a bass one? I was under the impression there were 4 things to choose from (I didn't buy the drums yet and am not getting the mic) but it seems guitar is my only choice for now. Not complaining or owt just wondering tbh.

Also, beating the same song over and over still makes me money, and the game gives you items you can buy anyway for beating songs in tour mode, so is it mad easy to unlock everything?

Y2Ant

There's no bass tour. Just Guitar, Drums, and Vocals. Bass can only be done in quick play or band.

You don't get to customize all your band members on solo. You only get to create your own player, for whatever instrument you're doing. You can play with bands online, but if you actually wanna do the World Tour mode or whatever, you need 3 other people in the same room.

They had originally advertised it as such, that you would have four solo games in one, plus world tour. They decided that bass tour wouldn't be fun enough, and took it out. Or something. Honestly, I say that's one of the shittier things they did.

Also, they really should have made it so you can sing with the mic plugged into the guitar, FFS. They even acknowledge it's something people would do...Why make it less convenient?

Ready to get your head spinning? This week are we really covering the spread. First we have a three pack of songs from Jimmy Buffett for $1.99 each (160 Microsoft Points) or $5.49 (440 Microsoft Points) for the pack. Jimmy Buffett rerecorded the three songs for exclusive use in Rock Band, turns out he really digs the game.

Also along for the ride this week is the long-awaited Disturbed three-pack of songs from their new album INDESTRUCTIBLE. Best Buy recently announced they are partnering with MTV Games and Hamonix to offer Disturbed fans the opportunity to download two free tracks from the band’s highly anticipated new album, INDESTRUCTIBLE. By pre-ordering the album at www.BestBuy.com/disturbed, fans will receive instructions to download title track “Indestructible” and “Inside The Fire” for Rock Band from Xbox Live. Both of those songs will also be available to all Rock Band owners on 360 and PS3 along with a third track from the album "Perfect Insanity". Each Disturbed track will be available for $.99 per track (80 Microsoft Points) for a limited time, or $2.99 (240 Microsoft Points) for the three pack.

Tracks are as Follows-

"Margaritaville" by Jimmy Buffett (master - new original recording)
"Cheeseburger in Paradise" by Jimmy Buffett (master - new original recording)
"Volcano" by Jimmy Buffett (master - new original recording)
"Indestructible" by Disturbed (master)
"Inside the Fire" by Disturbed (master)
"Perfect Insanity" by Disturbed (master)

There are products you can buy through major e-tailers like Amazon, or you could google one of the many "how tos."

I don't know how to do it, but I've seen more than one online.

Anyway, I clicked on the thread to say that, having played the Disturbed tracks, I'm not buying the CD. They're okay, but meh. Much as I missed guitar solos when they went out of style in the 90s, It seems like Disturbed's fallen into the "Throw in a guitar solo for the sake of a guitar solo" category, which is the opposite end, and just as bad.

WWKD, I don't think the band's really changed much at all. This doesn't endear them to me, but I was only marginally interested in them in the first place.

It's funny how you get a solid week like last week and the next you get crap.

Man I wish I could get hold of some DLC. Only had this less than 24 hours but there's a bunch of stuff on there I want

Drums are fun but haaaard @ times. Me thinks they're gonna get harder too. Guitar just feels 'better' than Guitar Hero. Pain in the arse switching from the big buttons to the smaller, 'high' notes mid song though. Not tried vocals yet. Crowd singing along is a nice touch.

Great game

Someone recced Maximo Park to me a couple years ago on Soulseek. I accidentally added my whole Soulseek folder to my iTunes Library, so I filtered through a lot of it already.

Yeeeeeeaaahhhh just had a a whole band thing goin on. Live in a very outdoor sports-oriented town, so its hard to find people to play, let alone a full band. This is only the second time I've gotten a full band going. Wish I could do it more often, cause its so awesome.

Found a 'guide' online to getting around not being able to download american Playstation Store content on a PAL PS3. Downloaded a bunch of shit. It's great that the DLC shows up in World Tour mode

Kane Knight
06-10-2008, 08:28 PM
Does that involve setting up an account in our region? Because they've been locking those accounts. You probably won't be bothered, but you should know.

CSL
06-10-2008, 09:02 PM
Yeah. I guess I wouldn't mind it getting locked as long as I could set up another for when I want something else. But if my PS3 was banned (like an IP type thing) from making international accounts after that, it'd suck (dunno if that's possible)

Oh, you're on a PS3?
LOL. I feel like an idiot. I don't know how I missed your mention of PLAYSTATION before. It's an XBox thing.

I don't know if you're safe, but I know Microsoft has issues.

On a related note, I got another friend hooked.

Are there any good wireless mics that will work with the 360? I want to get a real mic (A real mic for the game, as I have two professional microphones), but since it's a game, I'd rather not be tied down by wires.

If there isn't, is there a better mic than the Rock Band official in the sameprice range? I'll have to order one online, since no stores stock it, so convenience of locality isn't an issue.

I'm probably grabbing the drums by the end of the month, to boot.

Probably a longshit to begin with. It's just that everything else is wireless and all...I wish I could just get one of those Wireless USB mics, but I'm not sure it'll work on the 360.

LOLLLLL

http://kotaku.com/5016733/the-sun-gnashes-teeth-over-gtas-locked-mock-pedophile-site

UK newspaper The Sun (http://kotaku.com/tag/the-sun/) is trying their best to drum up some British outrage over Grand Theft Auto IV (http://kotaku.com/tag/grand-theft-auto-iv/)'s inclusion of a child pageant site on the game's faux internet.
In GTA IV a little exploration at the game's cyber cafe yields LacySurprisePageant.com, when you visit the site a message pops up that it has been shut down by the game's police and that your IP address has been "cataloged" for possible future investigation. A visit also instantly maxes out your wanted level.
When I first noticed this, while playing through the game, I had a pretty good laugh, but at least one South Wales man was offended. And you know what they say: One person pissed off equals a story in The Sun.
Jason Deschoolmeester, 23, of South Wales, said: “I was looking on the internet for cheats and the name of this caught my eye as my daughter is called Lacey. This crosses the line. The makers have obviously sat around and discussed putting this in, and it’s not on. What will they do next?
“It’s disgusting. It could lead people to indulge in things like that. It is totally sick. I won’t play it again.”
While The Sun does go out of its way to point out that the game doesn't allow you to act out the role of a pedophile, they never explain how a single complaint by a gamer morphed into a story with the headline: A HIT computer game has sparked outrage by featuring a spoof paedophile website.

KK AND GTA INVADE ROCK BAND THREAD SHOCKER!

Also, when do you unlock the bonus songs in the career mode? (Bang Camaro, Flyleaf etc)

Go down and play the one that's available on the Bonus tour (It varies by instrument), and then play the next. Each time you play one and finish it, it unlocks the next one.

Oddly enough, me and the guys just put two and two together and seen that we had the tools needed for a sing off (RB Mic, XBL Headset). So a small tourny for King of Karaoke went down.

I won. Deciding track: Creep. It's fun, slightly queer, but mostly fun.
