Yi Jianlian got 450,000 votes, pretty sure he's the best forward in the league. Seriously, this is an asinine argument. RP, while you make solid points, to imply that Gasol is not in the All-Star convo is ridiculous. Granger is amazing but he is on a below average team, thus inflating his numbers. Kobe's numbers have been over-inflated for years when he was on a terrible team. Now, when he's surrounded by talent, everyone questions if he's still "the best" because his numbers have suffered.

Gasol is an European player, it's great that people call him soft, but that's how he was taught. When you're trained to be a banger, you become a banger. Howard was trained for years to own that paint and crush the rim. When trained to be a shooter, shocker... You're a fucking shooter. You play players that take shots in Europe, and when you're in the forward/center position, you don't press, you make/let them take the shot. He's really no different then Dirk (obviously Dirk is a little better, but we wanted Dirk a while back because that type of player fits our scheme).

The bottom line is Gasol is on the best team in the West with a huge market. Fan voting is retarded, but that doesn't take away from his talent. He is on a loaded team, with great depth on the bench, his numbers are gonna go back and forth.

Bynum goes down again. This is unbelievable. 2 years in a row. Against the Same team.

Juan

Treatment of a medial collateral ligament injury rarely requires surgical intervention. Almost always, some simple treatment steps, along with rehabilitation, will allow patients to resume their previous level of activity.

SammyG

Juan. He is done dude.

Juan
02-02-2009, 05:21 PM
I don't think so. This isn't the same kind of injury as last year. He doesn't need surgery.

Gotta stay positive, Sammy.

SammyG
02-02-2009, 05:23 PM
They said he didn't need surgery last year, too, remember? Then he got it like on May 21st or some shit. They are feeding us the same bullshit as they did last year.

I guess Lebron isn't all that bad, I do think he's a tad overrated though. Plus the way ESPN is all over his nuts is ridiculous.

He's not overrated though. He plays defense really hard now. His free throws has improved. His jump shot has improved. Mind you hes still a terrible 3 point shooter.

He's built like Karl Malone, and plays like Michael Jordan.

And he's only 24.

Juan
02-04-2009, 10:31 PM
You lost me at "plays like Michael Jordan"

That's fine, but my point is he's not boring.

SammyG
02-04-2009, 10:38 PM
Nah, Juan, I understand we have the best basketball player in the world in Kobe Bryant on our team. That does not mean I can't give credit where credit is due. LeBron James is amazing, and is the NBA's future, along with Dwight Howard and Chris Paul.

Juan
02-04-2009, 10:40 PM
You're right Sammy, he is the future, but I just can't really stand the guy.

McLegend
02-04-2009, 10:41 PM
And anyway Lebron could conceiveably be better then Michael Jordan.

He's not right now, but he can be since he's only 24.

Juan
02-04-2009, 10:42 PM
I'm not saying he's a bad player, he just doesn't do it for me, you know? Has nothing to do with Kobe really.

Before Jameer Nelson went down, I did't see Boston beating them in the Playoffs. I thought it could be Orlando and Cleveland in the Easter Finals. I think Atlanta can get their shit together and push the Celts. They will have too many people gunning to out the champs to save enough in their tanks for a dance with Cleveland.

There were bad calls going both ways tbh

Jeritron
02-06-2009, 12:09 AM
Well that was an amazing game. The loss doesn't bother me because of the circumstances, and the fact that no matter what another Lakers/Celts finals will be a war. These are just nice teasers. Epic right down to the wire, it was anyboys game.
The anticlimactic finish and lack of a foul call sucked, but it was an equally good showing from both teams.

Jeritron
02-06-2009, 12:15 AM
The Lakers really only had 2 bad seasons post-Shaq, and I was never too panicked about it. I've never turned my back on PJ, Kupchak or Kobe.

I know. The Celts obv had a much longer bad streak, but I'm just saying in general, fans tend to demand change from bad teams. You can't blame them. There's no sense in supporting a poor team when change needs to be made. If people did, a team would never get better. If those people weren't calling for Ainge's job (due to poor seasons), then the pressure wouldn't have been on him to make moves for Allen and Garnett.

I think it's just part of sports, and you can't really blame some fans for being "fairweathers". The Celts have always had a fanbase, it just obviously rallies for winning seasons.

Also, I don't doubt you stuck behind Kobe and the crew. I'm just saying a good amount of fans turned on him. That's just how it is everywhere.

Jeritron
02-06-2009, 12:17 AM
Plus like you said, the Lakers had a much shorter drought. You gotta understand that after 15 years of bullshit, those Celts fans started to get less patient and nice.

I love how some of my fav posters here are rival sports fans though. It makes things interesting.

KG, tell me how my ass taste. No, seriously though, epic game. BOTH TEAMS PLAY HARD. Gasol mad fouled KG on that one play, but there were bad calls both ways for sure. Can not believe Odom stepped up that big at the end there. Mad props to LO. I would have loved to see how this game woulda went with Drew in there. Regardless, amazing win. especially on the 2nd night of a back to back. Awesome.

CLEVELAND -- The defining moment of the Lakers' road trip, according to coach Phil Jackson, didn't come here at The Q, where the Cavs' 23-game home winning streak came to an end, or in Boston, where the Celtics' 12-game win streak bit the dust, too.

So we'll get back to Phil in a moment, and instead focus first on the defining moment of this particular late afternoon victory near the frozen shore of Lake Erie -- and on the player who made that game-defining play.

He's the same guy who, when this road trip began, had never publicly uttered the words "Laker for life," whose expiring contract was more a focus than what seemed to be his expiring usefulness, and whose place in the Los Angeles Lakers' pecking order, at least in terms of importance, was somewhere between Derek Fisher's and Vladimir Radmanovic's.

That defining play came midway through the fourth quarter, after Lamar Odom had pretty much single-handedly turned this game around by scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds during a third period in which the Lakers turned a 61-51 halftime deficit into an 82-77 lead.

The Lakers' lead had grown to 10, but the Cavs had cut it to five by the time Pau Gasol missed a 15-footer and Odom grabbed the offensive rebound and laid the ball in. The lead was back up to seven, the Lakers had their mojo back, and Odom wanted to make sure everyone on the end of the Cavs' bench got an earful of what he was thinking.

"There was a couple guys there getting a little testy, which I don't mind if it's hard or physical play," Odom said. "I'm not going to say they were cheap shots or whatever, but fouls after the whistle and things like that, I don't think they're necessary. I didn't mean to offend anybody, but I was caught in the moment a little bit."

Odom continued to yap at Anderson Varajao after he checked back in moments later, Cavs coach Mike Brown searching for someone who was able to put a body on Odom and keep him off the offensive boards.

By then, however, it was already too late, and Odom's seven offensive boards among his season-high 17 rebounds and 28 points made the Lakers' newest starter the main catalyst in a 101-91 victory Sunday that sent the Lakers back to Los Angeles sporting a 6-0 record off an epic road trip in which they lost their best big man, traded a guy who started every game of the NBA Finals last June, and then had to finish off the journey with their best player, Kobe Bryant, slowed by the flu.

"These are the kinds of games we live for, especially coming off last year," said Odom, who planned to finish off his successful Sunday by attending Russell Simmons' Grammy Awards party after the team flew back to Los Angeles.

Just a guess, but it might have been a keen idea for someone at that party to pass along some kind of a trophy to Odom, telling him it was his award for "Best Comeback by a Performer Who Lately Has Been Challenging Michael Jackson for Hollywood Irrelevancy."

Odom's putback with 4:43 left was the beginning of the end for the Cavs, whose fans streamed toward the exits in the final minute with the outcome already certain.

"There was no boxing out," one woman complained to her pals as she made her way up the steep steps from Section 128.

"If you ask me, LeBron got nervous and let it get to him," another female fan was overheard saying.

James disagreed with the notion that the Cavs had slipped defensively, saying the Lakers had simply exploited certain matchups (Odom vs. J.J. Hickson above all others) in posting 30 first-quarter points and 31 third-quarter points. "We definitely never want to give up 30 points in two quarters in the same game. We've played some great basketball before tonight, I don't think defensively we were bad, it was offensively we weren't good."

That shortcoming started with James, who missed 15 of 20 field goal attempts and half of his eight free throws, and extended to All-Star snub Mo Williams, who followed up a 17-point first half with just two second-half points.

And while the Cavs were left only slightly reeling by their 10th loss of the season, the Lakers were about as gleeful of a road-weary team as you'll ever see -- especially given the fact that they haven't been in their own beds, much less their own time zone, since Jan. 27.

That was back when Andrew Bynum was in the latter stages of what was his best month as a pro, when Luke Walton was still sitting on the bench behind Vladimir Radmanovic at the start of games, before Bryant electrified Madison Square Garden and a nation full of Lakers fans by going off for 61 points in New York on the same day the Lakers got the bad news that Bynum would be out for 8-12 weeks with a knee injury.

By the time the Lakers were just two games into this 11-day voyage, long before they'd go on to become StreakBusters in Boston and Cleveland -- that was the time when the defining moment of this trip happened, Jackson said.

"There were two things. One, obviously, was Andrew going down and the immediate shock of one of our best players being on the floor, and the subsequent review of almost the same thing happening at the same time. The other thing was the subsequent game, Kobe coming out and [scoring 61], having the big, pick-me-up type of game that infused the energy of this club."

The Lakers finish the pre-All-Star Game portion of their schedule with a back-to-back set of a home game against Oklahoma City and a road trip to Utah.

Win 'em both, and they'll be boasting of a 43-9 record when the entire NBA gets together for a three-day party next weekend in Phoenix.

But even if they lose 'em both, there aren't many out there who are prepared at this point to shoot down the Lakers' status as the favorite to emerge from the West, Bynum or no Bynum. Not after a trip like this, a trip in which a hallowed arena scoring record, a 12-game winning streak and a 23-game winning streak all became their victims.

So let there be no doubt, at least as we stand here on the first full weekend of February looking ahead to the final 10 weeks of the regular season, who the best team in the NBA is right now.

It is the Los Angeles Lakers, and you'll have a hard time getting anyone in Boston, Cleveland and all points in between, and beyond, to disagree.

LOL @ Mike Brown

"Cleveland coach Mike Brown ripped into the officials after a controversial 96-95 loss to Indiana on Tuesday night. LeBron James was whistled for a foul with less than a second remaining in the game, allowing Danny Granger to break a 95-95 tie by making one of two free throws. 'That last call on LeBron [James] was the worst call that I've ever been a part of. It was an awful call and for him to take away a basketball game from a team with .04 seconds on the clock is irresponsible,' Brown said. 'We got the game taken away from us, absolutely horrible. I feel badly for the guys in the locker room.' On the previous possession, just fractions of a second earlier, Granger was whistled for a similar foul while guarding James. The foul allowed LeBron to hit two foul shots to tie the game."

Here's the video.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/53oSYvwTZ_w&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/53oSYvwTZ_w&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

with .8 seconds they called an even worst foul on the same exact play that allowed Lebron to tie the game. Tie being the key word. ROFL @ Mike Clown saying they took the game from them. They never had the game. Indiana led the whole 4th quarter. What gigantic douche of a coach. They never should have tied the game in the first place.

Bill Simmons' annual NBA Trade Value column. Good (but long) read: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/090212

23. Steve Nash
He's the Jennifer Aniston of the NBA: A sympathetic figure who brings a ton to the table and just wanted to have kids (or in Nash's case, win one title), only now his window is closing and he's considering the sperm donor route (or in Nash's case, a mercy trade to a contender with a better chance of winning, like Portland). By the way, Sarver is absolutely Angelina Jolie in this analogy -- he ruined everything and doesn't even feel bad about it. The Shaq trade equals the time Jennifer's wasting by dating John Mayer -- ultimately, it's a wasted year for her ovaries. Amare Stoudemire was Brad Pitt, the guy who should have made it happen and didn't. And I think Marc Stein was Us Weekly.

For those who don't want to read it, Top 3 are LeBron, Howard, and Paul.

I'm not trying to just pick on you, as there's plenty of people in this thread to argue with but...

Outside of the top three (Boston, Cleveland, and Orlando), Miami can certainly win a 7 game series. Hawks or Philly may have talent, but Wade alone can win a series. If we actually break it down player by player, only the Hawks have a better starting 5, and the Wade-effect outmatches Atlanta in 7 (I can break down the actual numbers if need be). This is assuming all things continue in the same direction.

It's unlikely that they match-up with Boston or LeBronland, but Orlando is a possibility. At the beginning of the season, Orlando crushes them in 5, but with Nelson gone... Well, Wade leads the league in scoring for a reason. Not saying they win, but it's a whole lot closer then people think.

We can argue that they beat Detroit, Chicago, or heaven forbid the Bucks, should they move into the 4th slot. Again, I can break down positions if we really need to.

God, the East is just pitiful.

Oh, and Dave... Go play NBA2K or something to create a dream team that will never happen.

I'll trade you Luke for Amare...

Actually, fuck that. Ariza's better then #1 anyways. You can keep him/

I'll take:
Paul
Kobe
LeBron
Duncan
Howard

Can I trade Sun Yue? They're comparing him to Magic in China.

Moon is extremely inconsistent, and won't do much in the way of rebouding for Miami. O'Neal spends his games sitting on the bench icing his knees. Though when he has played, he's been solid defensively. Toronto got the better end of the deal, they got rid of O'Neal and his 22 million dollar contract and know have over 20 million coming off the books after the season.

Colangelo and Marion know each other their days with the Suns, and maybe Colangelo can re-sign Marion to a mid level contract. Which is about what he's worth at this point in his career.

It wasn't the best but it's far from the worst. I thought the crowd was super hot. dwight should have saved the 12 foot dunk for the last round. The free throw shoulda been first. He'd would've guaranteed victory that way. The dunk he did from the base line was pretty sweet, though.

DaveWadding

Dwight could have used the 2nd rim better. in the 1st round, he could have put a spin on the Larry Nance classic (2 balls 1 basket) and used the 2nd basket to dunk on both (@ 10 ft) at the same time. And then done the 12 footer dunk (which I think he could have put a little flavor on) in the finals.

Krimzon7
02-15-2009, 01:15 PM
that sounds like mba jams. He shoulda had a 360 or tomahawk with the 12 foot rim in the finals. If He was gonna let nate dunk over him, then he shoulda did the 12 foot dunk in the finals too. Nate didn't really push off Dwight. He was protecting his nuts and Dwight's head.

Moon plays decent defense, and is a poor mans Marion. I truly belive that the combo of O'Neal and Moon are much better fit in Miami than Marion/Random Scrub C's.

The Heat could be a scary matchup in the playofs. ANy time Wade is on the floor they can win. Chalmers is a nice fit next to wade, and The combo of Moon, O'Neal, Haslem with Cook and Beasley scoring off the bench is not too shabby. I think O'neal will play much better in Miami, much better fit, even if it is only 29 minutes a game.

First major deal has gone down.

Bulls get: Brad Miller and John Salmons, and Ike Diogu
Kings get: Andres Nocioni, Drew Gooden, Cedric Simmons,
Trailblazers get: Michael Ruffin

Richard Jefferson being talked about with Cleveland (Bucks would get Szczerbiak's expiring deal) and Portland (for LaFrentz's expiring deal and Travis Outlaw). I also heard San Antonio, but I don't know who they would be dangling.

As far as I'm concerned, the Bucks can just pack up and relocate to Seattle or something. Once Redd went down, their fate in fringe playoff purgatory was sealed. and all hopes of getting a nice trade package for him next year was squashed. They're still too talented to completely tank, and not good enough to be much more than a sacrificial first round opponent for a top seed.

They desperately need a new arena, but no sane person in the Milwaukee area would be willing to help finance a new arena through taxes in this economy when they're also stuck paying for Miller Park for like the next 20 years. Herb Kohl needs to sell the team before he dies, and hasn't gotten any solid offers because he won't listen to anyone who won't commit to keeping the team in Milwaukee.

I lost most of my interest in the team years ago when they gave away Ray Allen for two months of Gary Payton. Ever since then I've pretty much been a man without a team. Going to school out on Long Island, I've kind of been attracted to the Knicks due to them being on TV all the time, but that's more because I'm attracted to the collective freak show they've been recently. I was a pretty big Bulls fan growing up (mostly due to Jordan and the fact that they were always on the NBA on NBC during the weekends, my only chance to watch live NBA games), and that interest is kinda coming up again with Derrick Rose being there. But for the most part I still have no real ties.

Edit: Jesus, I'm the Noid of the sports forum.

Good for the kings, they dump some hige contracts.

The BUlls lose flexibility for 2 years, with Hughes and Miller gobbling up huge contracts.

But they are much better for a playoff push.

Word has it Portland might be looking to swap Raef and Outlaw and Sergio for Vince Carter, which makes no sense to me. He doesnt fit with them and he would need to play SF.

Carter to Portland makes perfect sense, gives them some more offensive bang for the play offs, and is another tough guard at the wing, to go with Roy. Most teams are lucky to have one good wing defender.

So apparently the Tyson Chandler deal has been rescinded, because the Thunder could not medically clear him.

Josh Powell stole the show IMO, but another solid game from Odom.

Also, Chris Mihm was traded to Memphis for a 2013 2nd Round Draft pick.

SammyG

lol Mihm traded for nothing basically. Just trying to save up some money to resign Odom and Ariza at the end of the year.

Shaq to Cleveland rumors.. Please god no.

Big news coming out of the NBA today.

Amare Stoudemaire had major eye surgery to repair a partially detached retina. He is expected to be out 8 weeks.

Kevin Garnett has gone back to Boston to have an MRI done on his strained knee after straining it in last night's game to the Jazz.

Fuck KG, this will slow the Celtics, and depending how he recovers, could hurt them come playoffs. It happens when you build a team around three guys over 31 years old.
