pretty confident that Celtics can't win this without Perkins. Gasol, Odom and Bynum are going to be able to get inside a lot more and get Kobe more space or vice versa. The bigs are going to win this for the Lakers tonight

Here's the things that the Celtics need to fall in place...

1) Rasheed has the game of his life, he doesn't have to worry about getting 1 tech tonight (him and perk were both at the limit) what will they do? suspend him for game 1 next year?

2) The old Gasol needs to show up, the soft player that doesn't crash the board an takes alligator arm shots... this is not the Gasol that has played most of this year or this playoffs but every so often you see a little bit of him...

3) Kobe needs to take control, let Kobe go off for 60... 2 things happen when that happens, first everyone else backs off and slows down on the Lakers and it becomes a 1 on 5 for Kobe. Second is Artest will try to get in the act and start missing 3's.

an the Celtics win? yes... and I don't just mean that in a "any team could win" situation, I think they have a real shot... but no, I wouldn't bet my money on them...

I think there are plenty of Lakers from 2008 who remember being down 40 points game 6 in Boston...

IC Champion
06-17-2010, 05:59 PM
Yeah, and you should remember that was a different Lakers team, without Bynum, against a younger Celtics teams, which Kevin Garnet could still guard his own man.

Right, my point being I think this Lakers team will be out for blood and run up the score... also keep in mind Phil Jackson HATES the Celtics.

If Kobe wants to get better looks he should try hitting the open man when he is being doubled instead of forcing it. Maybe then they will stay at home instead of double and triple teaming him everytime.

alvarado52
06-17-2010, 10:12 PM
well, if the Lakers would hit their free throws, and spread the floor more so we could work in the post without clogging it, we'd probably see a more efficient scoring machine. And a lead.

so, in 2008 a lot of lakers fans say they lost because Bynum was injured, so by that logic in 2010 the Celtics lost because Perkins was injured?

lets get both teams 100% healthy and play the rubber match next year.

Sadly, i don't think the C's have another run in them... I also don't know how they start to rebuild...

I don't think Garnett at his age and price has much trade value.

Allen has some.

I say they trade Pierce while they can still get something good for him and/or free u some space to make a run for one of the big free agents...

alvarado52
06-18-2010, 06:36 PM
Bynum was STILL injured this year, and its not like Perkins was out the entire series, just a game and a half. Perkins made the inside tougher sure, but Wallace gave the Celts another offensive threat, so you take the good with the bad.

Regardless, there may or may not be another matchup of these teams (i hope there is), but i dont think i'd compare the loss of Andrew Bynum for the entire series of 08 to the loss of Perkins D and gain of Wallace's O for a couple games in 2010.

I think what he's saying is that it's lame for either side to try to discredit the other's win, or act as though theirs was any more legitimate

Crimson
06-18-2010, 08:20 PM
^^ Agreed. It's not like the Celtics BARELY beat the Lakers in '08. They slapped em around pretty much. Bynum woulda made maybe a little difference, but I doubt he woulda turned the series around.

McLegend

Pau Gasol was the best player. However Pau Gasol goes the Lakers go.

Gasol>Kobe

Jeritron
06-18-2010, 08:47 PM
As a Celtics fan, I would say that Gasol was the MVP. Whether they won or lost depended on his play far more, throughout the entire series.
The Celtics have shown that they can manage Kobe, and even if he goes off they can still win. Gasol was the real problem, and how they managed him determined the outcome of games.
That's why I'd say he was easily the MVP of the Lakers. It's not even a matter of any bias or hate either, because I despise Gasol far more than I hate Kobe.
Kobe just got it because he's Kobe, I think, and the NBA would also like him to move closer to Jordan in MVP awards.

IC Champion
06-18-2010, 08:55 PM
Where would the Lakers have been without Kobe's 30 ppg? While the Lakers wouldnt have won without Gasol, Kobe was the driving force behind everything.

Jeritron
06-18-2010, 08:58 PM
I think they should take a team for what it is, and award the x-factor though. If what you're saying is the case, the best player on the team should almost always win by default, even if they're managed well by the opposing team or even deliver below expectations.

I get what you're saying, I just feel Gasol would be my choice. I suppose it also can come down to the pointless "define MVP" debate

Pau was consistent and efficient, but even in the losses in this series, it was Kobe that kept the Lakers in those games.

Pau was consistent and efficient, but even in the losses in this series, it was Kobe that kept the Lakers in those games.Indeed he is those things, but lets not downplay his contributions to the lakers. Before gasol got to the lakers post shaq the lakers didnt make the playoffs one year, and were bounced in round 1 the very next. Since gasol has become a laker they have made the finals three times in a row, and won 2 championships. I don't think thats a coincidence, and there is a reason teams around the league were screaming when that lopsided trade went through. Hes one of the best big men in the league.

I'm a Lakers fan, I know how important he is to the Lakers. You're preaching to the choir.

Well of course he's a better player and more valuable to the Lakers on the whole. I'm just judging it by the series and how important each player was to the overall strategy of the matchup.
You can say that Kobe was more valuable, because of what he always means to that team, but Kobe is and has been the best player on the team so that's inherent. If it's approached that way he's MVP before the series even tips off.

I think what he's saying is that it's lame for either side to try to discredit the other's win, or act as though theirs was any more legitimate

yes that was my point.

You really think Kobe was more valuable then Pau Gasol and Ron Artest in the finals? Really? The Lakers barely won and if Gasol and Artest played like shit, they would have lost in 6. Atleast admit this.

Juan

but if Artest and Gasol would have showed up for Game 5, Lakers would have won in 6.

Do you think the Lakers would have won without Bryant?

Should we get an off-season thread going?

Why would their secondary logo have an SF?

RoXer

I don't know how I feel about that. I understand they want to encompass SF as part of the Bay Area but they play in Oakland. I dunno.
