You're bagging on a game for having similarities to a game that came before it from the same developers. You cited Fallout 3 as a game you could 'get into' that had all these great things, when really it is exactly the same as Oblivion just in a different time period. I said this, and you ignored it because you know for a fact that I am right.

No, you absolute fucking moron, I am bagging the game for being the same as a series of games I AM BORED OF. If I enjoyed the gameplay I WOULD NOT CARE. You are a simpleton. Actually I totally understand, but there are key differences:

1) I argued for my displeasure of the God of War series. I didn't play 1 and 2 and shit on three for havng the same gameplay.

2) While I did get that sense of 'Wild West paint over GTA' while playing the game... I like GTA. I even hailed RDR's likeness to GTA as a strong suit. Hell I wouldn't have stopped playing GTA4 if the multiplayer wasn't batshit clunky (issues RDR solved).

I mean, surely you knew this game was mostly GTA in the Wild West, with improvements that would only be appreciated by people who are satisfied with the series. I will, however, agree that RDR isn't light years ahead of GTA4 in execution.

It would seem you're just into R*'s style of sandbox games. There's nothing wrong with that.

It's the same reason I'm avoiding Assassin's Creed 2 for a little while. I hated the first for the repetitive missions. GTA/RDR go so far to maybe change the dialogue or cutscene animation or maybe have an NPC tag along before the repetitive side mission/gathering mission starts.

Assassin's Creed didn't do any of that. It was literally copy/paste all the side missions. And you had to go back to same city twice too. Fucking dumb. The story was a little intriguing though. Corny at times but hey.

I don't blame ECG for finding the missions in RDR to be a chore because they are. He hates it just like I hate Assassin's Creed. Nothing wrong with it.

Also, you're a fucking moron for getting so bent out of shape over something you should have expected to begin with. The game was never made out to be anything other than an open-world/sandbox Rockstar game.

I think you're more butthurt over the fact that you paid $60 for what you wanted it to be, instead of exactly what the game sounded like. And since you apparently don't know what you DO want in the game, it shouldn't be any surprise that you're not happy with it.

Like I say, I loved the GTA games up until 4, thought they peaked at Vice City.

Of course, I expected it to mostly an overhaul of GTA, but the publicity surrounding it emphasised certain things that made it seem the game would not be so linear. Like the Fame and Honour system suggesting it would change the way you could play this game. In reality, they have very little actual effect, the missions you do and the people you interact with do not change whether you behave like an outlaw or a great guy.

Going back to the Fallout 3 comparison, there's the actual prospect that if you kill a certain person or behave a certain way, then parts of the story change and you associate with different factions. You know when you interact with a character that you may close off something but open something else. I thought RDR would have this element, but it is absolutely linear in its design. In fact, all being a cunt does is make the game more difficult, rather than merely be an alternative way of reaching the same goal.

And again, I hoped the Wild West setting would re-vitalise the formula for me but it appears that is not so.

I agree with Cappy on that point. I thought SA just went a bit far off the rails. Yes, it was cool you could fly planes and helicopters, but a jetpack? Really? Plus there was a TON of dead space on that overly large map.

Funnily enough because I think Vice City had the best setting (the 80s) and also because it basically played out as a linear game. San Andreas brought in these shitty RPG elements that were a total chore. I still enjoyed San Andreas but the training/eating/girlfriend stuff did absolutely nothing for me. Having to earn different levels in guns and stuff too. It felt tacked on, like it was trying to be an RPG but GTA was fun, going back to the first game, for its total lack of morals and chaos. It still had the authentic feel and the humour (as RDR does, presentation is unquestionable, the soundtrack, voice acting, script etc. etc. is all perfect) but it was when they put things in that felt more like drudgery than playing a game.

Seriously, this is still an awesome game. Its flaws don't kill it for me, but it does have flaws, and defending them serves little purpose.

yeah but its during those travels that you run into the random spots, side missions, hunting, etc. RDR, GTA, Oblivion, and FO3 all have heavy traveling, and its all mostly to show how 'alive' the world is.

Fair enough, I definitely loved Vice City, though like I said I did enjoy San Andreas a bit more.

What you said though, you didnt have to train, eat or have a girlfriend, you could have gone through the entire game without doing any of them, but it did reward you for doing them.

One thing that pissed me off is that driving school didnt affect your driving in any fucking way besides getting neat cars with custom plates.

The ability to swim was a big kicker for me and Choppers and Planes were another.

The desert and open spaces were a bit outlandish but it provided a nice feel and a nice area to mess around on offroad vehicles (not justifying, just saying what I did with it)

The 2nd Zero Mission and I think R.O.E (where you have to fly a plane low to the ground despite trees coming into view a second or two before you hit them )

Anyways, if you match the good and the bad of each, they come out about even in my opinion, for what each game has that the other doest, that game is missing something the other has.

Back to RDR, it is very similar to GTA, but it has a nice feel to it. I like it purely for the weapons and hunting.

Another thing... i just cant really make out the online play everytime i spawn in a game it spawn me 4 away from everyone else so right when i get near the person it just stops n goes to the menu. idk can some one help me understand is the connection bad?

dude, this game was patched like a few days ago, it was a silent patch, so you were never prompted to accept the patch. I havent had a d/c issue since like the 2nd day of release.
