Chris Jericho is overrated. He's pretty good on the mic, and he's pretty good in the ring. He's not this amazing, limitless talent that everyone seems to think he is, and I'm sorry, but saying that Regal is sloppy in comparison to Jericho means one of two things. Either you're blatently trying to sway opinion by being dishonest, or you simply don't know what you're talking about. Jericho can be entertaining, and is a very good wrestler. You all are talking about someone who's best work was arguably over a decade ago. No matter what anyone says, yes, his return has floundered a bit, and it's because fans just don't care about him THAT much.
While he was gone, everyone was saying, 'Please God Jericho, come back to BAH-GAWD RAW.' They even did a 'Save us' gimmick, which floundered pathetically. Now that he's back? Meh. Poor booking? Maybe...but I was never feeling it. Regal, on the other hand, is on a roll right now. I'll go out on a limb and say that Regal has cut some of the best promos I have seen on RAW in so long that I can't even remember something better. (Which is probably wrong, of course, but the guy has been money) Regal is an excellent wrestler and understands basic wrestling psychology maybe better than anyone working today. I hate to be one of those guys that references something that's on a WWE DVD and even put over by the announcers, but if you can see Chris Benoit v. Regal at the Pillman memorial show, it's definately worth a view. It's textbook. Before this, I always thought that regal was okay on the mic. But he looks like a million bucks right now, and has really shown that he can go edgy and get it across. I guess my point is, right now, Regal > Jericho. However, ten years ago, Jericho > Regal, as far as I'm concerned. I guess you could blame booking for either, or that Regal was a tad overweight back then and didn't get the breaks...or whatever else you might want to pick. I sure as hell am not going to complain if Regal gets a title run. It's about time we had a heel that had a real personality outside of Triple H. I vote Regal > Jericho. |

To answer BDC's question, though, I'm really not sure who I prefer at the moment. I'd take both over pretty much every other guy in the WWE. Both a great in-ring workers, and fantastic on the mic (despite what people are now saying about Jericho, to deny he can work magic on the mic is ridiculous). They are different types of performers, though. Regal is a more European-based wrestler, whereas Jericho has a more "flashy" flavour to him. Japan, Mexico and Canada all sort of effect his style. They are also on opposite ends of the face/heel spectrum (well, I still technically consider Jericho a face until he officially turns heel). As for who is more over? I haven't been watching RAW, so I'm not sure the kind of heat that Regal's new "abusing power" angle has gotten, but Jericho is pretty damn over. We've been over this before, and I'm sure you'll disagree, but Jericho ws one of the most popular guys during the Attitude era. Yes, everyone was popular then, but Jericho was in that upper echelon, even though he was never the top guy. People remember that, and they also are reminded constantly of him being the Undisputed Champion. Jericho's credibility can be re-established in a snap of the fingers. |

I compared Jericho and Regal because I recall not to long ago there was a thread about Jericho possible being champion and recently I was asking people what they thought about Regal being champion. They seemed like a good comparison.

A. I would call Jericho lazy before I called him sloppy.
B. I remember how preposterous it was to suggest that Regal was World Title material as little as a year ago. Now he's tied with internet diety Jericho. I could make a hearty delicious soup out of my satisfaction. |

So IC conceded means everyone else has to? I have not seen any sloppiness from Jericho. When I think of sloppy workers, I think of people who can't time their shit, can't hit it, and are just a mess in the ring. Jericho has been far from a mess. I'm trying to think of one botch, and the only one I can think of is when he landed on Punk wrong during a Lionsault spot.
His ring work has really been quite good since returning. I haven't seen his stuff with JBL, but JBL's matches are never meant to be read as bouts of precision. |

And as for Regal, The tide may have turned simply because they clearly pushed Regal for a reason. Regal's always been an internet darling, but he's never looked like he had a real chance. He doesn't have the "look," He's not big, he's got a style that radically differs from the guys who normally make it, and while he's charismatic, he's not Cena or Rock charismatic. Anyway, and this isn't dedicated at you specifically or anything, but I'm laughing at the people who are bent by this, bitching about BDC and how he has it out for Jericho, yet the poll being so evenly split kinda says to me it's a fair comparison. Not directed at you, just something amusing that came to mind while reading it. |

I like Jericho and everything, but this is just plain wrong.
As good as Jericho is, once and a while a promo or interview falls flat, or sounds forced. It's not often, but it happens. It happens to everybody once and a while. Everyone except regal, that is. I cannot recall a single incident where regal spoke into a mic, and had the same problems listed above. Every time, he seems completely absorbed into his character, and the angle. As for in-ring stuff, Jericho is more versitale as far as what he can do, but regal's mat skills and psycology are much better. And he knows how to brawl a lot better, too. |

No. Again and again, no.
Also, "I haven't seen it" means very little in your case. You can try and make it out like "everyone" who disagrees with me is dismissed like you, but no. Just you. Why? Well, because you look at Jericho through love goggles. Also, Jericho is supposed to be someone who can get a great match out of anyone. Why would his bouts with JBL be any different? |

I agree that he doesn't have the charisma to be a superstar face champion, but I would argue that he could play the heel champion as good, if not better than everyone else. |

Oh and the reason regal is getting this push is basicly because he asked for it. In a recent Interview, he said as much as he enjoys his GM role, he is always bugging Vince to let him wrestle more. And that he is in the best shape of his life, and he reallyu wants a world title.

Jericho has done nothing offensive since showing up. The booking of him has been questionable, but I've never agreed with the whole "Jericho is lazy" "Jericho can't talk anymore" "Jericho is sloppy" mindsets. I think people expected too much from Jericho, and they're holding him up to an unfair standard. Since returning, Jericho has easily been one of the more entertaining aspects of RAW. Probably the most entertaining consistently each week. Also, who says Jericho is supposed to be someone who can get a great match out of anyone? Your mental version of me? Someone else? Jericho can get great matches out of most people, but Chris Benoit couldn't get a "great" match out of JBL, Eddie Guerrero wasn't able to get a "great" match out of JBL, and Shawn Michaels probably wouldn't be able to get a "great" match out of JBL. From what I read, Jericho's bouts with JBL were as good as they could be for what they were, i.e. throwaway brawls. |

A good example is from the Pillman Tribute Show against Benoit. He could have hooked and executed a Butterfly Suplex at one point. Instead, he slowly locked the hands before the hold, as if to say he's having to fight Benoit to pull the move off, but has enough of an advantage to pull it off. Another good example is his escapes from a Full Nelson. For those who never seen it: He'll raise up a knee and lock his hands around it. He will then push down on the knee to break the opponents hand grip. From there it's a simple back elbow. He could have slipped out, powered out, or went to the ropes. Instead, he says "I'm a good enough wrestler that I can get out of this hold and hurt you for putting me into it." The final example comes from virtually every one of his lateral presses: the forearm across the face is just nasty. A simple way of saying "even when I'm trying to end the match I'm gonna hurt you." Good announcers will call this, as well. |
