Here's a good one for you, Kalyx.

I tell you I'm coming to your home, with the intention of gunning you down. I buy a gun from somebody I believe to be a criminal, but in reality this person is an undercover officer, and has sold me a gun that does not work. Knowing nothing about guns, perhaps I wouldn't realise until I tried to pull the trigger. I arrive at your house, and you open the door. I pull out the gun, aim it at your head, and pull the trigger. At this point, the police jump out and arrest me.

Of course, I had no chance of committing the crime, because the gun was not real. What would you want me charged with?
