scrolling through this thread I forgot I posted that..

i downloaded SvR2k10 for my wii and it has been pretty good. not nearly as good as DOR which was pretty much a perfect game imo.

Some bad news for those who buy SvR used or borrow games (either by trading with Goozex or with friends), THQ raises Online Pass for SvR 2011 from the initial $5 they used for UFC 2011 to now $10 per pass code.

THQ's reasoning was since a lot of customers were willing to pay $10 for EA's passes, they figured $10 was the new sweet spot.

They're already upping it. What will you say if they up it to $20? Then $30? By then you'll have just accepted it.

It's not like they don't plaster the game with streamed-in ads already. And that's only going to get worse. I had a problem with that when it first started happening in games, too, and was one of the major reasons why I dropped my TiVo service.

Does it affect me if I buy new? No, it doesn't. But I'm not going to support a game that does this on the off chance I want to buy something used and not get dicked out of online.

Will one person skipping out on the game do something? Absolutely not. But I won't support a game that does something that I don't support.

It's 10 fucking bucks to start. Then this model takes off and Hollywood takes not and then you're doing the same with 2nd hand blu-rays.

And it does concern him. If you disagree with the business model, don't support it in anyway. It will end up hurting them if retailers are forced to tell people they have to pay $10 to use all the features on the fucking box. Then peoples trade ins are worth less and a lot of people will buy less games.

Retailers could undercut the actions by reducing the usual cuts of used games, since the MS/PSN points may be purchased at their store anyway.

Or 2nd hand buyers could wait until the used price drops further along. Eventually the 10$ will mean little. This seems to occur with annual franchises for now.

Also, pretty sure it's not going to raise anymore. MAYBE some company will make a bold move and raise it to 15, but would have to be something like Halo or COD. They aren't stupid. They know there is only so much people will pay before they decide it

If they cut out the second hand market (which is what they're doing here) they'll lose gamers on a whole.

How should they do it? I'd bump the price down at least $10 for all games, for starters. For example, why an 8 hour game is the same price as an 80+ hour game is beyond me.

Secondly, definitely embrace DLC, as they're doing. DLC is something extra that everyone can purchase for a reasonable fee (arguably). Online play is not something "extra", and if it is, the price of the game should reflect that. Ditto to anything that isn't important to gameplay.

People buy used because new games are too expensive. If they bump games down or put them on a sliding scale in terms of how much play time you'll get out of it people would buy new games more. It's as simple as that.

So have the film, music, car and any other physical product industry, they fund new purchases when traded in at best.

But in this stupidly expensive industry, will these costs be passed on to the consumer, knowing that they're willing to pay? Of course not. So we'll let them carry on slowly gouging us by putting prices up with a pretty shady business model, since your average person doesn't know this is happening and he'll be the guy punished.

I'll take that last bit back if THQ are classy enough to make it obvious that you have to pay extra on a pre-owned copy, but they'll hide it as much as the law allows.

Money talks, yes, but it's a two-way street. The companies will not stand a 2nd hand market kicking them in the ass, and factor the effect of pirated copies.

When gamers try to be inexpensive as possible, it's 'hip' (not Has or Xero's words, just what I've observed); but when the companies tighten their belts and make moves to increase returns it's evil or whatever.

Has is right about the apathy, but for now nobody's paying extra - games are still 60$.

Xero's also spot-on about some games costing 60$ when they don't have the same feature set as others.

I would be completley fine with all of this if they put, in as big lettering as the "online multiplayer and download created superstars" feature on the back of the box "this will cost you extra if you have bought this pre-owned".

I personally wouldn't want top pay the extra, but at least people that aren't in the know can make an informed decision.

Not really, as it's the games publishers that have decided to put this in there. If they're the ones making the change and not a retailer just facilitating the perfectly legal sale of second hand goods, the responsibility should be on the company making the change.
