Just wanted to bump this to say I was 100% right in this thread especially during this exchange (me in white, Afterlife purple):

Losing via underhanded tactics did not tarnish his rep, Yes it did it made the fans crave his victory. No it didn't they stopped caring. After he lost the TLC match to punk how many times did you see people spam post "THE RYBACK"? Not much if at all. the allure to him was gone. ANd...how is a one-on-one event like a 3 stages of hell match with the WWE CHampion considered "on his way down the card"? I would bet after his program with Cena you will see him fall down the card, he has already peaked (i.e. Khali in 2007)

I can't think of any animals that were involved as much as Damien. Right down to Earthquake murdering him in cold blood. Awesome childhood rasslin' memories. So, him.

Honorable mention goes to The British Bulldogs' dog Matilda.

Also, Pepper and all of his cousins who ran around the ring shitting and pissing during the Kennel from Hell match.

Jake Roberts snake pet "Damien" mainly because of how involved his pet was in regards to storylines and his character in general.

Do fake animals count since the Swagga Soaring Eagle was pretty good until becoming just a laughing stock once Hornswoggle got involved I think.

Question Of The Week:

The next Heyman guy should be somebody that doesn't look like they ate their former WWE personality.

Ultra Mantis

I'll really like to see Fandango as the Heyman guy, he's infinitely more interesting than McGillicutty. They could even revert back to the Johnny Curtis name and play off Heyman signing the "wrong Curtis" last time while explicitly telling us that Axel is terrible and he's really really sorry about the whole thing.

Maluco
09-11-2013, 06:49 PM
Don't think they should abandon Axel completely, think there is an opportunity here...

I would go for Matt Morgan. He has good experience under his belt now, and his size makes him an immediate threat to someone like Punk. Lots of possibilities after that.

You could have Axel taking on a Mankind-esque role in Heyman's stable where he unwittingly believes he is being set up for greatness (while Morgan is now the focus of Heyman's attention), while being constantly left behind to take the beatings from Punk.

You can then have Morgan/Punk, and maybe Lesnar or a further Heyman guy interefering down the line, playing the numbers game against Punk. Axel could then get the sympathetic face turn aiding Punk against the monsters after teasing tensions over a period of months.

You could then do Morgan/Axel, Punk/Lesnar based off of that.

You could get a lot of legs out of an angle like that, and it might help not only establish Morgan in WWE, but create more of a personality and backstory for Axel...

I'll second the vote for Morgan. So much untapped potential. I would love to see Morgan brought in as Heyman's full-time muscle for his feud with Punk. He could also be a good foil for small guys, too, and Heyman could use him to go after other former protégés. Morgan/Mysterio would be a lot of fun, if Rey could ever stay healthy. Imagine a fresh-from-surgery Rey Rey getting laid out by a seven-foot monster with the brain of Paul Heyman guiding it. Morgan vs. Jericho as Paul looks for revenge after Pantsgate. Morgan vs. Sheamus. I could go on and on.

Nowhere Man
09-12-2013, 06:35 PM
I think us in the C-Fed know the real reason you want Heyman to pick Matt Morgan, Loopy.

My pick for the next Paul Heyman Guy would actually be a two-fer: Brodus Clay and Tensai. Heyman's already got a midcard singles competitor with Axel, and a main-event draw with BRRRRROCK LLLLEEESNARRRRR, so why not take a crack at the tag team division? Brodus and Albert are two big huge guys who have pretty brutal movesets and could probably be built up as a good monster team if they drop the goofy dancing gimmick (which is redundant now that Fandango's around anyway). Plus, back in the day A-Train was one of Heyman's clients, so maybe he could turn to Paul for advice in the middle of a losing streak, then Paul could reinvent them as his way into taking over the tag team scene.

Questions Of The Week:

1) Which word should WWE add to the audience's vocabulary next week?

2) Who should be Bray Wyatt's next vessel?

Mr. Nerfect
09-17-2013, 10:52 PM
My first thought on the next Paul Heyman Guy was Johnny Curtis. The man oozes charisma, but could use some "evolution" to take him to the next level. The dancing shtick doesn't even need to be dropped entirely. He can keep the outrageous outfits and his on-air alliance with Summer Rae, who becomes the first "Paul Heyman Girl." Rae's a pretty good heel and she could have a nice little Divas Championship run.

I've thought that Tensai & Brodus Clay would make great Paul Heyman Guys in the past. Everything Nowhere Man said about these guys is correct. They'd be more naturally suited to being a heel team. Call them "The Wrecking Balls" or something like that. They could dump The Funkadactyls (or maybe Naomi could turn heel and also align, although that might clash with Summer Rae if Curtis also joins).

Matt Morgan would be a good choice, and he's also got a past with Heyman. Now that Ryback is aligned with Heyman, I'm not sure if bringing in Morgan to the group is such a good idea though.

Kofi Kingston (shocking heel turn) and Zack Ryder are two other guys I've thought about joining Heyman recently too. Kofi would be a more serious one, but Ryder joining Heyman would make sense. Zack works better in the ring as a heel, and it suits him to try and get himself noticed like Curtis Axel did. Ryder can be the whipping boy of the group, and be the one who takes most of the beat-downs and is there to make guys like Axel and the re-branded Johnny Curtis look "heavy."

Mr. Nerfect
09-17-2013, 11:01 PM
So here's my complete list of Paul Heyman's Guys and Girls:

Brock Lesnar - The part-timer who never fights for free. Paul Heyman's cash-cow and most sacred project.

Ryback - The "Next Big Thing" as Heyman sees it. A man he sees an a imminent contender for the WWE Title.

Curtis Axel - The "future of professional wrestling" as Paul Heyman sees it. His reliable, talented, athletic workhorse.

Johnny Newname - The former Fandango who changes his ring name and gets a little darker when he aligns with Heyman. If Ryback is chasing the WWE Title, this guy is chasing the World Heavyweight Title, and vice versa.

Summer Rae - She comes with the Fandango package. Having a sexy blonde accompany Paul Heyman Guys to the ring just seems right. She could also be a postulated contender to the Divas Championship, but there might be a better choice for that.

Tensai - He could possibly change his name back to A-Train for this reunion with Paul Heyman. He's brought in as a contender for the Tag Team Championship, but Heyman can also use his skill and experience to mentor some of the younger members under his wing.

Brodus Clay - He doubles as security for the group and as a tag team competitor. Being on the road with Axel and Tensai will allow for Clay to theoretically improve as a potential monster for Heyman.

Naomi - She turns on Cameron and joins the re-branded Tons of Funk under Heyman's care. I can just imagine Heyman talking about Naomi's unique athleticism that no other Diva can match. She'd bring the Divas Championship to Camp Heyman.

Zack Ryder - Sick of being ignored, Ryder offers his services to Heyman and finds himself easily manipulated by the evil genius. He does a lot of run-ins and takes a lot of beat-downs, before eventually developing a thing for Summer Rae, which leads to Fandango beating the shit out of Ryder. Heyman stills sees uses for Ryder, and wants Fandango to let him stay around, but Ryder turns on the group there before he eventually gets beaten on PPV by Fandango.

Think, if they are serious about tag wrestling, WGTT would be a good call. An experienced tag team that could have great matches at that level.

From a business stand point, however, I think the best answer would be a charismatic, dependable masked wrestler.

Sin Cara has not worked out because of his botches and lack of personality, but I think a guy like La Sombra or El Hijo coming in, getting built up and then going over Misterio at Mania would be great for business long term.

Like him or not, Rey moves merchandise consistently, not to mention his appeal to the Latino market. A new lucha star would be great for business.

SlickyTrickyDamon
09-26-2013, 02:35 AM
Don't know if any roster needs any major improvements. Might be cool if Ken Kennedy could get another shot of WWE fame, but I don't know if he'll be a game-changer.

Not sure if TNA can get another major star nor should they. They needed to streamline the product to keep Dixie's parents happy. Still not sure if the company will exist when Mr. Carter dies. Heard reports that Dixie's mom was pushing for these major cuts. Maybe the cuts will please her enough to keep the company even without TNA's "Ted Turner" so to speak. If they can get anybody on the cheap maybe somebody like Jake Carter. Not really sure he showed all he could do in NXT but that might be good for TNA. He certainly couldn't be worse than Jay "I was in WWE for a Month" Bradley. Carter is the son of Vader and maybe that could get Vader involved in the production and he could be a manager for Carter and maybe feud with Hogan and some young wrestler Hogan could train.

Mr. Nerfect
09-26-2013, 08:26 AM
Can't really see too many guys moving the needle in WWE. There are a few I would like to see given another shot. One I can see being quite successful is Matt Morgan. Another who I sometimes think about is Kaval. Yeah, he kind of left in a huff last time, but now that little indy guys get better shots, maybe he'd be more patient? His stuff could get so over in the WWE, and he's not actually bad on the mic.

Chris Masters for either promotion. The guy was just getting good. The thing is, he had two wellness strikes against him name. But so do Randy Orton, R-Truth and Rey Mysterio. TNA would be foolish to not try and get Masters on board with their product.

Kharma/Awesome Kong is another that I think would be a huge gain for either WWE or TNA. That chick is fucking good. She's got something credible about her that just makes you want to see her kill bitches dead. TNA, in general, should focus on their Knockout Division. They got Alissa Flash to work their Knockout PPV -- sign her the fuck up. Mickie James is now a free agent, so the WWE could give her another shot. She's hot, can wrestle, can talk and a crazy bitch vs. crazy bitch feud with AJ Lee could be pretty fun.

Really want to see some of the women out there that can wrestle be given a shot in the WWE. Victoria, Beth Phoenix and Katie Lea returning would all get me hard. Saraya Knight being brought in by Stephanie McMahon to make Paige's life hard is basically a dream storyline for me. Scarlet Bordeaux is gorgeous and would a viable commodity to either promotion, but I actually think her whole slutty character would be better in TNA, who should also pick up The Blossom Twins.

TNA should also focus on tag teams. If they can sign Alex Shelley to team with Chris Sabin again, and somehow sign The Briscoes and The American Wolves, you can just throw them in tag team matches against each other and always have something solid on your show.

I've wanted to see Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas brought back as a tag team in the WWE for some time. Again, won't move the needle, but would make for some fun television.

Mr. Nerfect
09-26-2013, 08:28 AM
To explain Hogan leaving TNA, I'd like it if Ted DiBiase, Jr. somehow "bought" the company from Dixie Carter and become some sort of spoiled rich-kid heel who hangs around the main event scene. I don't think that idea would draw or anything, but I think that it would freshen TNA up some.

Ultra Mantis

WWE:

The only male free agent I could see them bringing in would be Batista in a Jericho/RVD like role where he comes back 3-4 months at a time. They have enough talent coming up through NXT where they don't need to look at prior talent. I would say Morrison, but what does Morrison do that someone like Sami Zayn couldn't?

TNA:

JR. Go to the desert and dig up a nice barrel of money to give him. Hire JR to run all aspects of talent, development, and let him help run the business end. He helped with the budget for house show tours, so he would be a fantastical addition.

I can stand Tazz repeating himself, because his catchphrases are hilarious, and he also rambles a lot.

I don't have much of a problem with JBL on commentary, but he tries too hard to force certain phrases, or references, into the show.

Heel/face turns are one thing. When every "good guy" is simply bullying other people, that's another thing entirely. I exaggerate, of course; lately, there are WWE faces that are fighting against being bullied, but for a long time, every WWE face was an inexplicable cock.

Nark Order

No. He isn't. Listen, I'm not as dead set against him as many of my fellow podcasters are, but we have to show some honesty here. He is not nearly as over as he should be for the position that he's in. Much of it is because the hit in popularity he took by middling for a couple years due to the wellness strikes, but he is not really that over. It's clear that he knows what he's doing and knows how to be a main event star, but nobody is paying to see Randy Orton right now. For an 11 time champion, he is not drawing even close to what he should be. Like not even a reasonable fraction.

Mr. Nerfect

Yeah, I agree with Gertner in here. Randy Orton is over (as a face he was ridiculously over despite not doing much of anything) and the whole show seems to be constructed as a "team sport" more than ever.

I love the idea of Damien Sandow having a midget valet. It'd suit him perfectly and it'd be good to have a heel small guy to wrestle El Torito.

I always think of it in terms of "If this person was inexplicably fired today, what would the backlash be?" If Orton was fired for his 3rd wellness violation, it really wouldn't be all that big of a deal. Triple H would just find another corporate champion and everyone would move on. If Cena was fired, they would If have to completely restructure the entire company. If Bryan was fired today, there would be riots. That is the difference. If Punk was fired today, there would be lots of problems. Randy Orton is an 11 time champion and is relatively expendable. I don't know how much of a victory that is.

I completely disagree with this assessment. If Randy Orton got his third wellness strike and went to TNA, I think he's one of the few people who would actually move the meter for them. He'd come in, RKO Kurt Angle immediately and become the next TNA World Heavyweight Champion. And it would be #BestforBusiness.

I truthfully skip most of Randy Orton's work when it's not with another of my favorites. I find his character to often be a bit of a snore. On a personal level, I wouldn't really care if he decided to retire. More power to the guy. I don't think his ability and his value can be denied, though. That being said, I do get the autopilot argument, and I do think that there are times where Orton just seems "there." But while he was just "there" as a face, he was so fucking over it wasn't funny. They wouldn't have been able to turn him heel against Sheamus earlier in the year because people wouldn't have cheered Sheamus over Orton.

Mr. Nerfect
10-05-2013, 07:02 PM
When Noid and I actually agree on something wrestling related, it's very likely a fact.

:y:

The only other guys that I think would move the meter in TNA would be John Cena (in the biggest way possible), Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, Big Show, Rey Mysterio and maybe Dolph Ziggler and Alberto Del Rio. And The Undertaker and Kane, although they would have to use different gimmicks and it has zero percent chance of happening. Say what you want about Ziggler, but there is no doubt he's one of the best workers the WWE has and there's enough of a following behind the guy that I think he could capture some interest for a few shows, although I feel it would peter.

Del Rio is in a similar position to Orton where his character often just seems "there," but his ability cannot be denied and he is a big deal. He's essentially spent the entirety of 2013 as World Heavyweight Champion. He may not keep interest once people get used to seeing him there, but I think people would turn over if they knew that Del Rio was going to be on TNA.

I think them stacking Hell in A Cell is a panic move. Mainly, they sharted the bed with the finishes to the last two PPVs. Overturning a decision then following it up with a non-decision makes it very hard for people to throw down $54.95 in three weeks for another PPV. Trying to guarantee a finish, adding HBK, adding John Cena back, all screams panic.

I'm actually all for a Juniors Division as long as it is booked right and not treated like a massive joke. It may not draw, per se, but it could make for some entertaining television and great for shows like Main Event and Superstars.

You've already got Hornswoggle and El Torito on the roster as babyfaces. Have JBL come through on his promise and bring in his own sponsored midget animal to do battle with El Torito. Damien Sandow could have Ignatius come into the WWE and reveal himself to be a midget worker. That's two heel competitors to go against them. Total Nonstop Action Wrestling LLC. will cease operations and no longer exist as an active professional wrestling/sports entertainment entity on October 27, 2019. I do believe that Vince McMahon will buy it for roughly $1,056,944.16 and use it to sell a career retrospective DVD on Jeff Jarrett that will make roughly $3.28 Billion in sales.

if TNA loses any more core guys like Styles, Joe, Roode etc. then it will be 2015 July 26.

This doesn't mean everyone will be saved from terrible storylines as Vince will inject either some Main Event Mafia or Aces and 8s into the WWE, his creation

Baring some huge drastic changes or financial turnaround, December 25, 2014 after Dixie Carter teases one last big surprise announcement.

Can't really see Spike TV stay that committed to TNA for the rest of their tv deal (ends in 2018) but more likely Panda Energy or a new owner pulls the plug well before then. Also doubt TNA will shrink or downgrade enough to follow a ROH-like route to stay alive and instead crashes more like ECW did because of financial problems.

Well, it isn't really all that different. My argument is that the bodyguard angle is used like twice a year in like every promotion. It isn't anything new in prowrestling, so the "copying" thing doesn't really register with me.

Poit

They've had Tapa for quite a while; they didn't just hire her because they saw WWE remembered they had Tamina.

I really want to defend TNA, but I can't after viewing the latest episode. Dixie, with her good looks and all, just can't promo to save her soul. The authority figure has been done, it's like watching the same show with fragmented time periods, jagged characters.

Part of me feels bad for the rumors going around of the sale, EC3 sounds good on paper and the kid is trying to get over on what little is given to him. It would be mad awkward if they kept him around with the gimmick if the Carters choose to sell.

To answer the actual question, I think it'll be Rollins. Ambrose has the personality to stick around as a mid-to-upper card heel until he retires, and Reigns will always fit in as muscle for someone. I think Rollins is doomed to be Justin Gabriel after the Shield.

Bad News Gertner
11-01-2013, 01:39 AM
I agree, Rollins is most likely, and I'm not nearly as high on Ambrose as others. Reigns has a great look. HATE using a spear as a finisher though. He was using the Mark of Excellence than Mark Jindrak used to do while Reigns was in NXT. Gotta improve though mic skills though. It's almost like you wish you could take Rollins"s speed, Ambrose"s personality and Reigns"s size and mold them into one wrestler.

NoJabbaNoBogRoll
11-01-2013, 08:11 AM
Her being annoying is part of the shtick.

This has nothing to do with my point. Vickie does a great job being annoying and getting heat, at a level Dixie should be aspiring to reach.

I was saying that Dixie's recent promos have been smoother, not better. Vickie always sounds like she's barely memorised her lines, and she awkwardly pauses in the wrong places, like Teddy Long.

Mr. Nerfect
11-01-2013, 11:01 AM
Gail Kim is too fucking good to need a bodyguard. If they wanted to do something with Tapa, Chris Sabin should have hired her to be Velvet's unwanted protector. Or they can keep her down in OVW until she becomes better.

Mr. Nerfect
11-01-2013, 11:03 AM
Also, as much as I love him, Seth Rollins seems like the least sticky of the Shield guys. Ambrose has got enough of a blend between personality and skill. Reigns is the sort of prototypical WWE Superstar the company likes. Rollins is a great worker, seller and a decent promo, but he's the sort of guy who -- if he gets a few wellness suspensions against his name or has a few backstage incidents -- could suddenly be losing constantly on Superstars and Main Event.

I doubt that will happen, but I just can't see Ambrose failing or Reigns being allowed to.

Agree with others about Rollins seems to be the one who's very likely to fade once the Shield disbands. Not because he's an obvious weak link but because he seems to be one of those types where his real star potential won't start to show up until years later like a Ziggler and others who had slow builds.

Ambrose and Reigns already have their star potential showing with Ambrose being pretty well rounded as a wrestler and Reigns fitting the big man mold that Vince and the WWE love.

Mr. Nerfect
11-02-2013, 11:20 PM
Roman Reigns seems to be teasing some sort of dissatisfaction with The Shield at the moment -- his look to Ambrose during their backstage promo on SmackDown and then being pulled away from a fight by Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins. Could we be heading towards a Triple Threat for the US Title between the three in the near future?

Think it could be Ambrose...it was rumored he rubbed a few people up the wrong way as he is a little strange,a little off the wall and people didn't know how to take him in the beginning.

WWE likes team players who give little trouble (Punk aside), and I think he could easily make mistakes running solo and find himself lost in the shuffle. After all, his look isn't enough to win second chances. Hope it's not true, but I think he could be the most likely candidate.

Rollins could be like a daredevil Jeff Hardy-like character, except more stable and better in the ring, and Reigns could be the Batista-like explosive power man, wish would see them both safe.

The relationships are actually different, if you paid attention to how they began.

I accept the obvious similarities between the two "angles", but I very much doubt anybody in TNA watched Tamina acting as AJ's bodyguard and said "Hey, we have a large Pacific Islander woman ready to go, and we have a heel woman of Asian descent we could put the belt on... are you thinking what I'm thinking?"

Seth Rollins, good workrate and all, don't get me wrong, but he doesn't do much for me outside of the ring.

Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose are set up for great things, Roman has that Samoan type Rock shit going and Dean Ambrose reminds me of HBK in the early 90s with the IC title and such.
