It would make sense since I think ppl following the buzzards might be code for going to Men's Warehouse after a horrendous beating would be Kofi Kingston and anyone that has suffered the Wyatt Family beatdowns.

That would surprise me, because most of the time making sense is surprising

1) He's had nothing but negative things to say about WWE for years.
2) He'd look really weird in a suit.
3) None of the current target demographic knows who he is.
4) Everyone else wouldn't care.

There are a few guys that would be intriguing choices to join The Authority. Even someone like Dean Ambrose wearing a suit and trying to "blend in," despite still being a member of The Shield is a development. There's also the potential sell-out role with Goldust or Cody Rhodes turning on the other. Zack Ryder selling his soul for a title opportunity against a babyface mid-card champion (which Big E. might be soon) would make sense as well.

Question Of The Week:

Who would you push as the next WWE Tag Champions and why?

Mr. Nerfect
11-14-2013, 01:55 AM
I'd push The Real Americans as the next Tag Champions. They're both tremendous workers and have some size to them. Zeb Colter has got the talking down for them. Plus, if Colter's boys don't win some gold soon, then just how long can Colter keep backing them believably? The well will run dry unless they get a few solid hits in on some big players.

Even if they just traded the Tag Titles with The Rhodes Legacy a few times, I think it would go a long way to helping their credibility. Plus, with some many face teams in the WWE -- The Usos, The Prime Time Players, Los Matadores, etc. -- it just makes sense to have heel champions.

James Steele

Wade Barrett & William Regal

William Regal cuts a promo about his epic career and it sounds like a retirement speech until he slowly grows louder and angrier and goes on a rant about how he hasn't been World Champion and hasn't even sniffed a championship in ages. He decides that he is going to take a page out of the book of the man he mentored 20 years ago -- Triple H. William Regal is going to find the next great superstars and mold them to accomplish things he never quite did.

William Regal joins commentary on several random matches. He ends up watching a Wade Barrett vs Antonio Cesaro for the Intercontinental Championship. He helps screw Cesaro as Wade Barrett becomes IC Champion. Cue Goldust confronting him backstage about ruining the prestige of the IC Championship. Cue Rhodes Bros. vs Regal/Barrett. Regal/Barrett upset the Tag Team Champions. They have a "No Holds Barred Tornado Tag Team Elimination Match" at TLC for the Tag Team Championship. Regal/Barrett win after Kofi Kingston turns heel and interferes to join Regal/Barrett. William Regal gets a token shot at the World Heavyweight Championship at the Royal Rumble thanks to Triple H, but comes up short despite interference from Kofi and Barrett.

The trio have a good long run together helping re-establish Barrett and grooming him to take over Regal's role as the grizzled badass gentleman from Britain and Kofi gets a push. They keep the belts for months until they drop it, but they stay in the title picture. All the while, Barrett is also in the IC Title picture. The stable blows up when Kofi/Barrett finally implode during the 2015 Royal Rumble. Regal tries to talk sense into Barrett the next night on RAW, but gets a bullhammer elbow and the hell beaten out of him with a chair for it. It is announced he is injured badly.

Barrett earns a spot in the Elimination Chamber to earn a World Title shot at Mania. Regal runs down the ramp with brass knucks and beats the shit out of Wade Barrett while they unlock the chamber to let an eliminated person out. Then, at WrestleMania 31, Wade Barrett puts the Intercontinental Championship on the line against William Regal's career. Give them 20-30 minutes and William Regal's career ends with a spectacular midcard match that seems like a fitting end to his career while also helping Wade Barrett and Kofi Kingston re-establish themselves.

Fuck, I love me some Kofi Kingston and Wade Barrett.

Wyatt Family.

The dirtsheets have been teasing them as the next big team so it makes sense they'd likely be the ones to take the belts off of the Rhodes.

Make them into the heel version of "Team Hell No" in the sense the belts are treated as something really important and use that to build the next big face team such as maybe a face Real Americans or the Shield.

Question Of The Week:

Who would you push as the next WWE Tag Champions and why?

I'm going to say Team Air Boom.
Evan Bourne is slated to come back in the near future, right? If I recall he was over with the younger crowd. Also, Kofi is exciting to watch. It will give two guys whot could get lost in the shuffle very easily something to do, give a high flyer a title, and give a heel team a great chance to really get over when Team Air Boom drops the titles.
I could see The Rhodes breaking up over the title loss, which can turn into Goldust vs Cody at WM30. No one is left with nothing to do at the end of the day.

Anything related to ECW. We have a casket, let's use it. We've had enough invasion angles, enough reunion shows, and enough compilation dvds. Bury it, let it rest in peace. We can remember how ECW was in it's prime instead of habitually digging up a rotting corpse. Let it rest. Let it die.

edit- if it has to be TNA related...
Whomever wrote the Aces & 8's angle to begin with. Seriously, I'm pretty sure we were about to see Sting announced as Head of Human Resources for Aces & 8's, Joseph Park announced as Vice President of Ice Cream Distribution for Ace's & 8's, and Mae Young as their biker mama. It was about as unbearable as when there were multiple versions of the nWo.

Thank God You're Gone- This slammy goes to someone who stopped wrestling for WWE, and we're all the better for it.
This year, it goes to Ted DiBiase Jr. From what I recall he wanted to be a movie star but not live in a major hub for the business. This is the logical equivalent to wanting to set up a surf shop in the middle of Bonner Springs, Kansas. Not impossible, but not very practical. Best of luck to Ted, but we're all the better now that you're gone.

I was thinking about how much I'd like that just the other day. I am hoping that the reason Yoshi hasn't been seen on TV for a while is so we forget how his credibility was shot during his last run. He could also be working with some younger guys and getting them more crisp and polished before having a solid return.

Same here, mainly because I wanted to see the look on Bo Dallas' face when PAC jumped to the outside. This stuff is gold.

My wrestling wish would be the return of the hardcore title. With WWE's current landscape it can work. They can have the title change 4-5 times on the weekend as they announce it via social media, and put it back on someone right before RAW airs on Monday. They can also put it on NXT for a week or two.

Hardcore title would not work in this era of wrestling. The chair shots are pointless, nothing to the head, just see a good example of a no DQ match, take a look at Miz vs Kofi at the last Ppv.

No one would buy a hardcore match with the current product.

Nope. We aren't going to do that. Plenty of podcasts are close to 3 hours. It is fairly easy to save your place on itunes, podbean, or any random podcasting app. I rarely listen to podcasts in one sitting. Also, we have our show broken down into parts. What I loved about it was that it was so random. It was out of character, but not in a bad way. That's what made it so great -- Orton just really enjoying beating up Mark Henry that night, and kind of freaked out Christian in the process.

Mr. Nerfect
01-04-2014, 11:32 AM
On the topic of Orton, does anyone else feel that as a heel he seems far less credible than he did as a babyface? I thought the turn was well-executed and such, but he just seems to have lost that badass vibe about him. It comes out from time to time (like when he ruthlessly beat Cena at TLC), but he still feels more like 2002 Chris Jericho than 2000 Triple H to me.

James Steele
01-04-2014, 11:51 AM
I think they are trying to blend his badass heel persona while bringing back more elements of his 2002-2005 arrogant/cocky heel gimmick. Orton's promos have been 1,000,000X better since his heel turn. I really enjoyed Orton from 02-06.

Yes. Oddly enough, this. It's actually why I preferred face Orton. He had this way about him where he could get the crowd pumped just watching him beat someone's ass and seem to have a blast doing it. He didn't even need to be involved in anything major.

Mr. Nerfect
01-04-2014, 07:53 PM
Most of the time as a babyface, he wasn't. Still one of the more over dudes on the roster though. I agree that his promos have gotten a lot better since the turn. I'm hoping that he actually goes over Cena clean at the Rumble. Their match doesn't need to close the show and a loss against Orton could actually be used to give Cena direction heading into WrestleMania. No matter who his opponent is, Cena can feel he has something "to prove" at WrestleMania XXX, which gives him a thing. Orton could be the champion and the guy to beat, but he needs to actually give off a world-beater vibe.

Cena hits the Attitude Adjustment in their WWE World Title match at the Rumble, but Orton kicks out. Cena locks in the STF, but Orton gets to the ropes. Michael Cole asks what Cena needs to do to put Orton away. Cena goes for another AA, but Orton counters mid-air into an RKO out of nowhere. Orton gets the pin and retains the title. CM Punk then wins the 2014 Royal Rumble Match. As Punk celebrates to close out the PPV, Orton appears on stage with both his championship belts and just smirks at Punk. WrestleMania main event set.

I would have booked a Brood Reunion and have them make their sweet entrance and they start cutting their "quiet rage goth" promo only for Edge to break character and go "Wait...this is totally dorky. Let's do some old school awesomeness!". The best part would be when Gangrel joins E&C in a "5 Second Pose - Vintage Goth Edition" and they exit to the classic E&C theme. Later, you could have them interact with The Wyatt Family and have Gangrel do a spit take with his red liquid or something and have him say "Those guys are freaking weird." Then, you can book Christian vs Daniel Bryan for SmackDown!

Wrestler - Razor Ramon/Scott Hall in a similar role to Ted DiBiase or Ron Simmons in the sense he says his "Hey Yo" catchphrase for a quick cheer.

Team - Bushwhackers and they either face 3MB for the comedic match or Real Americans after Zeb does some insults targeted towards the Old School non-American stars of the past.

Faction - The Corporation with Pat Paterson and Gerald Brisco acting as honorary stooges for the Authority that night.

I've kind of been obsessed with the idea of a legend hosting a tournament lately. Even if it only took place on Superstars or Main Event as a trial. Originally it was Shawn Michaels hosting it in my mind, but then it became Arn Anderson. They'd invite the 8 competitors they wanted to see in it, and the winner would receive the official sponsorship of that legend.

Question Of The Week:

If you were booking Old School Raw, which legendary wrestler, team, or faction, would you bring back, and in what capacity?

Not sure if this is in time, but here's another answer.

I would love to see a "contract on a pole" match between two legends. Face legend vs Heel legend, so long as they can still work. Just make it a simple run for winner so they can put over a younger talent in the opening match of WrestleMania (or the following Raw).

It'd be easy heel heat for The Authority too. Fire them after they lose their first match and such. Then, you can bring them back down the line for a "mystery tag partner" angle to get their comeuppance for a nice little moment to have on a RAW that still ties into storylines without taking up too much time.

Question Of The Week:

Which current diva/female wrestler do you believe could have the wrestling longevity of Mae Young?

FourFifty
01-21-2014, 10:10 PM
No one said Evolution because of how much of an energy drain Randy is nowadays.

As of this week's answer... No. Just no. No one else is going to hit that level of legacy that Mae Young has hit.

AJ.

XL
01-22-2014, 05:17 PM
I don't think there's a man that can match the longevity of Mae. She wrestled/made appearances for pretty much 75 years. Flair would have to do another 20 years to match that, do you think he'll live to be 84!?

When was the last time a woman remained relevant for a decade let alone 7?

Stephanie is probably the safest bet for obvious reasons.

Afterlife
01-25-2014, 08:29 AM
Stephanie is relevant? BAM.

Mr. Nerfect
01-25-2014, 08:56 AM
I wouldn't compare anyone to Mae Young, but when you want to talk about a lasting impact on the business, I really do think that AJ Lee, Paige and Emma could all have long careers in the WWE, providing they keep their nose clean. Paige and Emma are not only two of the most talented girls on the WWE roster (perhaps the most talented two), but they are also babies. Emma is twelve years younger than Layla, for example, while Paige is fifteen years younger. That's a long time to make a splash once they connect with the WWE audience on the main roster.

As far as AJ Lee goes, I feel that she is one of the most important female characters the WWE has ever had, and she's only going to get more important if the Divas Division continues to be highlighted and they want to expand their female viewership. She's already achieved so much with the WWE and still has years left to achieve more. It's very likely she will compete at WrestleMania XXX this year, and it's very likely she will get a very good reaction and be able to ride a wave of momentum to an even better year than she had last year.

XL
01-25-2014, 12:38 PM
Being so young now just means they'll be younger when they finish up with WWE - whether that's because they've expired their "shelf life" or get bored with the way they get booked.

What's the average life-span of a Diva? 6 years?

Anybody Thrilla
01-25-2014, 05:36 PM
I think the closest thing to Mae was Trish Stratus, but she's all but forgotten now anyway. Currently, I guess AJ Lee, but that still feels like a serious stretch.

loopydate
01-25-2014, 09:43 PM
Stephanie most likely.

I'd add Natalya to the discussion. She's not going to go down as an all-time great, because they book her pretty shittily, but she's got the family name and she seems to be well-liked, so I can see her showing up from time to time for a very long time to come, even if she'll never be an important part of the show.

Mr. Nerfect
01-25-2014, 10:03 PM
I can see Nattie having a long WWE career.

The Rogerer

I tried to work out where they would have gotten the 62% in the last decade from, and the closest I got was 5/8 = 62.5%

XL
01-26-2014, 01:47 PM
How did you get that? Let's see your working out, man!

The Rogerer
01-27-2014, 06:19 AM
Five

Divided By

Eight

Equals

Zero Point Six Two Five

Expressed as a percentage

Is

Sixty Two Point Five Percent

I was just saying that was the numbers I came up with in order to get anywhere near 62%. I have no idea if those numbers match up to anything. I thought at first it might be over 9 years, because 'the decade' could include this year which hadn't been won yet, leaving you 9 years. Nothing would break into 9 years to give close to 62%, so I went to 8. God knows.

XL
01-27-2014, 05:53 PM
An 8 year decade!?

Poit already explained in the podcast. The promo video was supposed to say "the last TWO decades". I worked it out in the Raw thread that they'd included 21 events in the last 2 decades. That gave you 61.9%.

The Rogerer
01-27-2014, 05:57 PM
I don't think a decade is 8 years. I guessed that maybe they were counting 8 occurances in the space of a decade because that was the way to get close to 62% in a flipping decade. I am terribly sorry that I didn't hear poit definitively explain it.
