Methinks he's going for all the color schemes of Chicago sports teams. This looks like the Sox. Last raw were Da Bears. Think he has some that matches up with the Blackhawks/Bulls as well as the Cubs, but those would seem like regular attire if you aren't paying attention.

An absolutely fantastic Raw tonight and a great way to celebrate it's 1000th episode. I loved the Heel turn from CM Punk. I really didn't see it coming.

I only have two problems with Raw tonight though....

No Bats or Austin (especially Austin) is kind of mind boggling. Towards the end when Slater came out I was figuring he was gonna get a stunner.

Also, AJ as GM is kinda :wtf: for me.

Otherwise, great RAW. Lots of fan service tonight. Lot of mark out moments for me.

And for the record, LMFAO @ Mae Young's son. That moment was just golden.

Very fun show overall. My only gripe was there not being a battle royal or something with a bunch of obscure midcarders from the past few years. Not a big deal or anything - I just loved the one they had at the Raw 15th anniversary because there were a lot of guys you don't normally associate with a nostalgia show. Maybe they'll do that for the 20th anniversary which will officially be happening soon.

in terms of Austin, maybe he turned it down/it was never on the cards. Bigger impact if he shows up "down the road" and odds are new heel CM Punk is going to need a WrestleMania opponent http://www.tpww.net/forums/images/icons/icon12.gif

I loved the Punk turn. I loved alot.

For the 100th raw, drop the clay Squash, drop some other garbge, give me a few more legnends. And how you dont have Austin, I dont get it. Even in the Slater Segment. let him come out leading the legends. Something. NOT NOTHING.

Team Sheep
07-23-2012, 11:29 PM
Great show. I was just shocked they'd end the 1000th Raw all dull and gloomy like that. When Punk had Rock on his shoulders or when he was just stood in the ring for ages after it I was just waiting for the glass to shatter. Stunner to Punk, beer drinking, close the show in a celebratory fashion, and sets up Punk vs Austin for Wrestlemania. A 1000th episode of Raw without Austin? Damn. Otherwise, fantastic show from top to bottom. Pretty much met my expectations so I'm satisfied.

I'm cautiously optimistic this may be a Punk heel turn.

We can't be sure yet, however. The St Louis crowd was booing CM Punk during his promo with Rock and Daniel Bryan, so it may be part of the "Chicago/St Louis" rivalry, who knows?

Or they may just like The Rock so much that they'll boo whoever does anything to him.

Only reasons I hate the heel turn are A) I prefer Punk as a "straight shooter" and not a typical cheating heel like I feel like they're going to make him and B) He's not gonna be able to be put over as "the man" as a heel. He's basically a lock to lose the title to Rock at Rumble so we can have Rock-Cena two at WrestleMania and Punk can continue to be out of the picture.

I really want a good new guy to be put over in the main event at WrestleMania and Punk was that chance. Ah well.

in terms of Austin, maybe he turned it down/it was never on the cards. Bigger impact if he shows up "down the road" and odds are new heel CM Punk is going to need a WrestleMania opponent http://www.tpww.net/forums/images/icons/icon12.gif

As soon as I read that, I thought that maybe having Austin show up, might have overshadowed Punk's heel turn, maybe?

I'm cautiously optimistic this may be a Punk heel turn.

We can't be sure yet, however. The St Louis crowd was booing CM Punk during his promo with Rock and Daniel Bryan, so it may be part of the "Chicago/St Louis" rivalry, who knows?

Or they may just like The Rock so much that they'll boo whoever does anything to him.

But if Punk does indeed turn, awesome.

doubt they're gonna have King putting over Punk "turning on the WWE Universe" if that's not the direction they're heading

As for now I'm holding out hope that they are going with a new age of "anti-hero" with him as opposed to a full heel turn and make him the victim against Rock stealing the spotlight.

Basically re-do Rock vs Cena from last year but with a guy that most of the crowd might actually get behind against Rock.

absolutely would have, would have been too much. That ending put Punk smack bang in the spotlight, doesn't come off half as well if he's lying on the ground while Austin drinks beer. They have long term plans in motion in terms of Rock/Cena by the looks of it, if Austin/Punk happens it can be built up in the regular Rumble-to-Mania build amount of time (or any amount of time from here onwards)

That is one reason I see him doing what he did. The Rock comes around a few times a year, gets a WWE title shot, and has a chance to main event WM yet again and CM Punk (looked as the new guy to be put over in the main event) AGAIN has to take a back seat to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. I think he took the opportunity to lay a message to The Rock. I don't see how we are shooting the gun to think he has turned. Didn't Cena hit the Rock suprisingly before WM 27 and nobody labeled that as a heel turn? I can't wait to find out next week why.

Punk beating on Rock isn't shocking like WWE intended it to be. Rock's just been fighting Cena for the past year, the biggest face ever. The only thing that made it clear to me that it's a heel turn was King saying he's turned his back on the WWE Universe. Otherwise I wouldn't know it at all.

Great RAW this week. Might have been short on matches but tonight was all about celebration. Loved all the obscure references and Slick's face when AJ rejected Bryan.

Punk turning heel and a feud against the Rock will really benefit him especially after the Bryan-Punk feud which had amazing matches ended last week. Did seem weird he was unwilling to take advantage of Cena getting KO'ed but moments later clobbered the Rock for no reason.

Cena winning the case seems like a cop-out or wasted too quickly since the streak didn't end nor Cena didn't get the title either. Him wanting a regular match and Big Show's first run in would have been the perfect way to end it.

Austin has said that if he was to have one more match, it'd be against Punk.

So I truly believe that Austin not appearing tonight (not even in a pre-recorded video message) was done so the focus would be on Punk's heel turn, and WWE decided to keep Austin "cool", so when he does in fact return for an angle with Punk, it'll just be madness because the WWE Universe hasn't seen him in so long.

Cena's cash will be determined as premature. I can assure you, that his cash in will be considered invalid due to all of the interferences that occurred. It would really make the MITB concept meaningless if you win by DQ and waste a cash in like that. AJ as the GM...I can see her continuing to be involved in the WWE title picture while Punk is still champ and grant Cena another opportunity.

Why worry? Punk heel v.s. The Rock will be GOLD!

No way a heel Punk beats Rock unless there's shenanigans. And I don't like the idea that they would spend all last year trying to get the fans to cheer Rock's face nemesis because he's a face and now they'd be trying to get people against Punk because he's heel.

Punk's gonna get cheered still. They have what they wanted last year with Cena in Punk. A guy who can actually make for a dynamic crowd reaction. I'd prefer them to just roll with it. Having the guy you want as your future getting cheered as he takes out The Rock would be an amazing way to put him over.

As a heel, I can't see how he doesn't just become old CM Punk and be the typical "either cheat to win or lose" heel and as we've seen with The Miz, that doesn't really get guys over.

Rock's gotta put someone over at some point. It's gotta be building to the ultimate rub. I'd prefer that to be a face Punk.

Depends on wording the WWE uses from now on but technically the streak still is active since everyone who's cashed has won their match. The only change now is the case no longer guarantees a title but everyone who's had it is still undefeated.

I consider it as a cop-out moment mostly because Cena still won which doesn't give him the negative status as the first MitB winner to lose his match while the WWE can now use the actual loss for someone else like maybe Ziggler or for a future case winner.

What a great ending - finally something to freshen up the dead WWE landscape. Ever since the awesome Summer of Punk, what did we get? Face Punk playing SECOND FREAKING FIDDLE to Cena the whole damn time. Then he was in a ridiculous love triangle. Turning him heel just pumps me up that much for Rock vs. Punk, Punk being a mega heel, Rock being a bonafide face, and hopefully this is the end of the boring Show heel push. Until the Rock comes back in time for the Rumble though, I have a feeling Punk will be a cheered heel over Cena.

You decided this based on what? WWE hasn't ever been in this kind of situation before. Besides, I think this will be more of a tweener/tease heel for awhile as Punk can easily justify his actions and slowly descend into evil. I think Punk beating Rocky after snapping and beating the fuck out of him with a chair (ala Austin @ WM17) would be just as effective as being a babyface beating him clean especially since Austin/Punk is a good possibility at Mania and Punk going over would completely cement him as "the man". Kinda wish they booked this for Survivor Series instead of the Rumble, but I guess The Rock's schedule is what it is. Also, The Rock showed he can't work a "shoot feud" all that well, so a heel punk will give him more to work off of and Punk can do anything on the mic.

The Austin beating the fuck out of Rock with a chair to win thing only worked because they both went in as a face and Austin turned heel and aligned with McMahon. Punk/Rock will be red fucking hot come the Rumble, and if they do pull the trigger on Punk/Austin...it will headline WrestleMania XXIX. WrestleMania hasn't been a "1 main event" show in quite some time, so I consider Punk/Jericho a WrestleMania main event even though it didn't go on last and didn't have the most build out of the 3 main events. The problem isn't the faces, it is the heels. There hasn't been a new HEEL that has been on Cena's level since 2005. Right now, WWE has Dolph (who will be a babyface come WrestleMania), Cody, and Wade Barrett as guys who are heels close to being on that level but they aren't. CM Punk is the perfect guy to turn heel and make the biggest/most legitimate thread heel since Triple H. I also think you are underestimating how much people love The Rock. Punk/Rock screams "Rock/Hogan" where the fans just love the fuck out of the legend and cool new main eventer be damned. This is perfect because it easily plays into CM Punk's character and the justification for his heel turn. Adult wrestling fans (who aren't fans just because their kids are) put Punk over as the hottest thing, but the majority of Cena fans (who apparently are the majority of the ratings in their peak periods) don't see it that way. These are far more confusing times than the prime of Austin, the Rock, and Hogan, there is alot more diversity amongst fans, but Punk is still second as far as fan-base.

He thought he was the voice of the voiceless, etc. but the people are still the same stupid fucking sheep who don't want to be saved, they just want to be led.

Do you really think Punk vs Jericho could have closed out WrestleMania last year and not left an anti-climactic WrestleMania ending? Really?

If not, that should tell you that Punk is not "over" like he needs to be. He's over compared to the current crop of wrestlers. Rock and, yes John Cena blow him out of the water as far as guys for a legit WrestleMania main event feel.

Haven't really seen him in several years, but X-Pac has quite a gut on him nowadays.

Indeed. The Rock being awkward in promos and hammering the same insults for weeks will help build up to the big match to put Punk over alright...

Oh no. Rock sucks at something that's entertaining. Please mold all storylines for him and forget other guys' strengths. :'(

P.S. The best thing that "worked" for Cena during that feud was when he called out Rock sucking at riffing and having to use notes. So yeah, it is useful.

Dunno why everyone feels like that was a full on Punk turn. Doesn't seem like it really.

The way he acted when he was walking down the aisle and Lawler's "Punk turned on the WWE Universe comment" kinda lead me to think it may have been,

I'm also thinking Punk could draw in some of Cena's younger fans that hate Rock for beating Cena last year.

He already has a lot of young fans since he "officially" turned face and quit shitting all over Cena. I still think the older fans will cheer for The Rock over CM Punk. Punk will get pops for "bombs" he drops in promos and the awesome promos in general he will deliver, but CM Punk's character has always had heelish tendencies to it. I think that even if Punk goes in babyface, it'd be like Rock/Hogan where the crowd would cheer the fuck out of Hogan just because of who he is and for him to win the title would mean he might actually be back and they would want that. Punk goes over, but he isn't the triumphant hero conquering the legend and riding his white horse up to Mount Olympus to sit on the right hand of Zeus and the wrestling gods.

If you're going to believe this was a full-fledged Punk heel turn, don't base your decision on anything Jerry Lawler might've said.

Just sayin'.
