Dunno why everyone feels like that was a full on Punk turn. Doesn't seem like it really.

The way he acted when he was walking down the aisle and Lawler's "Punk turned on the WWE Universe comment" kinda lead me to think it may have been,

King made it sound like a full-on heel turn, but I think they can easily explain it and keep Punk a tweener. People went nuts because they know now they will get to see Punk/Rock, but once they actually start building to it: The Rock will have the overall crowd on his side and always will.

Punk should be one of the more complicated characters. I'd think if it was gonna be a full heel turn, he wouldn't have been so hesitant to try and pin Cena after the knock out punch. He believes he's gonna face Rock, so might as well put a little exclamation point on it.

I'm not saying he won't be presented as a heel by WWE, but I hope they go for more of a grey area. From a character/storyline standpoint, his actions made sense. And I think it will take a lot more than that if they want him as a full fledged heel. Wait'll next week, I suppose.

I am wondering what random ass insults Rock will come up with for CM Punk. I can't think of anything you can easily make fun of him for other than some of his tattoos (Pepsi logo, etc.) and even The Rock can only go so far with that. Luckily, The Rock won't use up all his material 14 months before the match. The Fruity Pebbles thing was the best thing Rock had against Cena and it was hammered into the ground before they even announced Rock/Cena for WMXXVIII.

He already has a lot of young fans since he "officially" turned face and quit shitting all over Cena. I still think the older fans will cheer for The Rock over CM Punk. Punk will get pops for "bombs" he drops in promos and the awesome promos in general he will deliver, but CM Punk's character has always had heelish tendencies to it. I think that even if Punk goes in babyface, it'd be like Rock/Hogan where the crowd would cheer the fuck out of Hogan just because of who he is and for him to win the title would mean he might actually be back and they would want that. Punk goes over, but he isn't the triumphant hero conquering the legend and riding his white horse up to Mount Olympus to sit on the right hand of Zeus and the wrestling gods.

I know he already has some of Cena's fans on his side too but I think those fans who hate Rock for beating their hero would lead to even more. As for the adult wrestling crowd, I think it could be pretty split. In the end, I have a feeling if they went in a WrestleMania right now, I'm not so sure Rock fans would dominate the crowd. They'd still be a lot of people who watch wrestling regularly and Punk wouldn't be that guy a lot of people are already voicing being sick of like Cena was against Rock and Rock was against Hogan. I think people would wanna see that new face emerge.

Punk would rip Rock to shreds.

IDK how they'd do this, but, if you thought Cena made Rock look bad at times, wait 'til Punk gets to him.

How many matches has Christian lost by being injured recently?

I remember it used to be an old school way of having a heel beat a face for a title without doing a typical cheat. I remember specifically HBK beat The British Bulldog at SNME for the IC title after Bulldog injured his knee and it gave out on him.

Seems like Christian has it happen all the time now. It happened against Ziggler in that fatal fourway to decide Sheamus' opponent for No Way Out, it happened against Cody Rhodes I think in the MITB qualifying match and now tonight.

I don't agree with turning CM Punk heel at all. Basically throwing away all the hard work that they did to make him one of the most over faces in years. No one was even close to "taking over" Cena's spot but him. Now they are back to Cena and Cena alone.

I would like to think that this is just him going tweener again, solely for a feud with Rock/Cena, before going back to being a face.... but like #1-wwf-fan said.... Jerry Lawler's line seems to indicate it was a full on heel turn.

I do not approve.

There is no guarantee this is going to be a heel turn for CM Punk. May just be a tweener, ala HBK in his feud with Hogan.

I wonder how they rebuild Slater? I haven't heard his contract expiring. It would have been more credible to have Beth Phoenix do a number on him. How much of a break in kayfabe does it require to believe that Slater couldn't kick out of a lateral press by a 150-pound person? I guess they had him sell the beating as if he were hit on the head with a chair a few times (something which would have been more convincing but obviously un-doable in PG WWE).

The last time Lita competed against a man in WWE, he beat her with one hand tied behind his back (albeit, it was against Super Cena in fall 2006). I guess Kharma really was fired, or Slater would have been put in a program with her at some point.

I'm watching some videos on YouTube, some of these "RAW Reviews", and some people are bitching about how "disappointed" they are that WWE did not bring out a new WWE Title.

People make up their own expectations based on nothing and then consider themselves "disappointed".

I think that Vince might be getting really tired of covering up history, so he may have let this happen tonight.

Fair enough. He did obv get a pretty huge heel pop, but we'll see where they go with it.

Edit: Id prefer movie star heel Duane or even the long-awaited Cena turn/swerve. But I can reason with them that Punk is starting to become slightly stale as a face. He really is an awesome heel. So regardless, I just take issue with the timing, feels off.

Agree with Keith on the Bryan/Sheen shit. But WWE has a great track record with celebrities. Maybe Snooki returns during the match to give birth and Charlie and Danielson fight to the death over her placenta

I like your humor! As for me going on about Slater's burial, I was hoping the "payoff" to the angle would be a big reward like defeating Stone Cold in a once-in-a-lifetime upset, not to merely continue his losing streak. Like I said, I'm hoping this is kind of a new experiment of a character they're doing. I like Punk giving the heels their comeuppance. That's why I wanted him to face Show. The underdog who just keeps finding a way to fend off the bad guy role fits him. A guy like Daniel Bryan just wasn't a god nemesis as far as getting him over in that role since Bryan's kind of an underdog heel.

Only reasons I hate the heel turn are A) I prefer Punk as a "straight shooter" and not a typical cheating heel like I feel like they're going to make him and B) He's not gonna be able to be put over as "the man" as a heel. He's basically a lock to lose the title to Rock at Rumble so we can have Rock-Cena two at WrestleMania and Punk can continue to be out of the picture.

I really want a good new guy to be put over in the main event at WrestleMania and Punk was that chance. Ah well.

But....

Who's losing most likely? Cena or Rock? Can't see any way Cena loses against Rock for the title at WrestleMania. Rock's not coming back full time and for him to have a reign longer than just Rumble to WrestleMania, he'd have to. Not to mention the fact that I can't see how/why they would have Rock just go over Cena AGAIN.

You couldn't see why it made perfect sense the first time....however I do agree him going over again (and Cena not being affected/no change in his character) would make zero sense.

You couldn't see why it made perfect sense the first time....however I do agree him going over again (and Cena not being affected/no change in his character) would make zero sense.

He has a reason to shit on the fans though: after all he did to help change the WWE for better, they still shit their pants for guys like Rock, Cena, HHH, Lesnar, etc.

Yes that's a "wrestling heel" reason. That's something that someone does when they are needed to play the role of a heel. That's what I'm saying I kinda don't want.

Wedding was not of Andrew Martin (RIP you roided son of a bitch!) and Stephanie quality. Really forced and pushed way too quick. They had months to prepare this; especially if you're gonna promote this two months in advance. AJ is a dimepiece and quickly becoming one of the more popular, but what thee fuck? Can't say its a bad thing to have more AJ on tv, but this feels like Hornswoggle all over again.. "well, we got nothing, let's rely on polls from wwe.com!" The only way this angle wins is if AJ does Playboy

#1-norm-fan

lol. Yeah. The wedding was definitely a case of "We want a wedding and now we have to think of something crazy to happen at the end" and opposed to the wedding being done in order to make something out of it.

Alright... I'm not buying the whole "We can just call whatever match we want a main event and have it be a main event."

The main event is the last match on the card. And even if you do wanna call whatever other matches are on the card the "main event", the last match on the card is the last match for a reason. It is not equal to the others. The point is they wanna end it on a peak. A high note. And there was NO way Punk was gonna do that. He was so far off it would have been ridiculous for him to MAIN EVENT WrestleMania against anyone but Cena, Rock... that's pretty much it.

The Rock still has the best modern original theme music. HHH's old theme by that Chris Warren Band was immaculate and how Punk got 'Cult of Personality' still amazes me. But you'd be hard pressed to find a theme we all mark out to harder.. 'Real American?' Mideon, Pat Patterson and Brisco came out to that shit too.

Alright... I'm not buying the whole "We can just call whatever match we want a main event and have it be a main event."

You know, the main event as the last match really only became prominent in the PPV era of wrestling. Before that, it was common for the main event to take place in the middle of the show, right before intermission.

In fact, I haven't been to a house show in a few years, but I've been to more than one where the main was in the middle of the show, right before intermission, and the last match on the card was just a regular match.

Anywho, my point is that it's not totally unheard of for the main event not to close the show.

Not yet, but within the next few PPVs; he obviously works better as a heel. I was with everybody when he was a face and won the title.. bland character development (as usual), horrid angles, etc. But he has such a huge following in recent times, even with attempts at cheap heat. Not many could get Sheamus booed in this company, man.

Also, I think DB will be much more successful as a face when he turns because he will be more comfortable on the mic and with his character. His heel turn was probably the smoothest character progression I've seen.

Hanso Amore

I dunno - not to be "THAT GUY" but you guys insisting he is "NOT FULL HEEL" are crazy.

Punk certainly turned heel. HE attacked the single most popular wrestler in the WWE. The Rock can show up at any point and have 20 thousand people chanting a new catchphrase he just rolled out. Anyone on the opposite side of the Rock is going to get the heel treatment.

So not only did he drop that attack, he did so after teasing shady tactics against Cena. The Announcers constantly put over that he should "HELP CENA" and not take advantage, which he slowly did. They have also teased him for the last few weeks being bother by not being the man nd being overshadowed by Cena/Lesnar/Rock

He then cheap shots the biggest face in the company (and slowly and methodically hits him with his finisher.) Then he slowly and dickishly leaves the ring without looking at the fans, with a mean scowl on his face, while the announcers say he turned his back on the WWE Universe.

That is a fucking Heel Turn Template.

Hanso Amore
07-24-2012, 10:39 AM
Also at the idea that they are "wasting all the build they have done in making him a face for the last 8 months as champ". Meh, Thats garbage.

He goes from the number 2 or 3 face, to the top heel. That is certainly not wasting a build.

Now we have a Heel Punk as champ coming up on one of the longest reigns as champion of all time.

Yet fan boys still find a way to bitch about Punk not being used right.

We might just see Punk/Rock at Summerslam. If not at the Royal Rumble. Punk is going to be in the limelight like never before.

Big Vic
07-24-2012, 10:40 AM
I think he is heel, just not Full on heel, I suspect him playing the tweener card next raw until SummerSlam.

Hanso Amore
07-24-2012, 10:43 AM
Tweener is such a farcical stance.

He will be going at it with Cena or the Rock. Both Mega faces. He will be the Heel in that feud.

Hence he is a heel.

What would he have had to do to go FULL HEEL? Beat up Zach Gowan?

Hanso Amore
07-24-2012, 10:43 AM

I had to walk away from my desk because I started laughing.

==============

When someone turns at the end of a show people are left with a lot of questions like "Why?" Kinda of like when HBK Super-Kicked Hogan.

Next week Punk can play off the incident saying he's sick of rock stealing the spot light from the wrestlers in the back. That's not FULL ON HEEL. If he says he is sick of the rock and the people the people in this arena that's FULL ON HEEL. Unprovoked attacks also help deepen the Heel turn.

Most importantly if we see him with a longer beard next week then rest assured he will definetly be going...Full on heel

Unless they show what he just did in a clip before hand, or they, you know, watched the show this week.

Its unfortunate that "you're not buying it," but its actually common knowledge. Since the roster has gotten larger in the past 15 years and there are more guys up on the card, there have been at least 3 main events at Mania every year. They literally say this every year. Why do you think ring announcers have stopped saying "and now for our main event?"

He. Went into Mania. The WWE champion. And retained. Clean. But whatever, right? Since it didn't go on last, it just wasn't the main event.

Shadrick
07-24-2012, 03:19 PM
You know, the main event as the last match really only became prominent in the PPV era of wrestling. Before that, it was common for the main event to take place in the middle of the show, right before intermission.

In fact, I haven't been to a house show in a few years, but I've been to more than one where the main was in the middle of the show, right before intermission, and the last match on the card was just a regular match.

Anywho, my point is that it's not totally unheard of for the main event not to close the show.

All of this.

He. Went into Mania. The WWE champion. And retained. Clean. But whatever, right? Since it didn't go on last, it just wasn't the main event.

Basically it comes down to whatever WWE wants to call a "main event" and people like you can just say "OMG HE MAIN EVENTED CUZ WWE SAID SO".

Bottom line is, as far as card placement, there's no difference between that and the random divas match. Switch the place of those matches and it doesn't matter one bit. Switch the place of the divas match and Rock and Cena... ya know... the actual main event and it's the weirdest fucking thing ever.

That's because THERE'S A REASON it closed the show. Rock and Cena are worthy of a REAL main event, closing out the WrestleMania spot. Punk can't do that. He's not over like that. I don't know how many ways I can put this. Punk is over in comparison to the rest of the regular, full time roster. The rest of the regular full time roster is not remotely over. You can call whatever match on the card a main event you want if it makes you feel better. When it comes to giving that peak though and closing out the show, suddenly one of those "main events" is not even an option... that says something about where it stands with the ACTUAL main event.

Some random thoughts about the second half of Raw that I just got to watch:

1) Hey Mark, velvet/felt cowls don't slide smoothly over buzzcuts.

2) WWE is about to poop on the "never before and never again" from the Survivor Series 2011 of a tag team of Rock and Cena when they take on the team of Punk and Big Show at Summer Slam/Survivor Series (whichever Rock's filming schedule allows).

3) With Rock facing Punk at Rumble, that means barring a loss/regain of the belt, Punk's title reign will surpass Bret Hart and Hulk Hogan (he ties them today at 248 days). He will also pass Yokozuna, JBL, and Cena (280 days), Ultimate Warrior (293), "Superstar" Billy Graham (296), Diesel (358), Hogan again (364 after WM 5), Savage (371), and Cena again (380 in '06-'07). He'll have 435 days at Royal Rumble. The next person on the list will proabably not be caught - Bob Backlund at 648 days.

4) I don't have any idea how Heath Slater can even regain "jobber to the stars" status based on his streak not paying off with a win last night. The only story I can come up with for him is that someone gets him to reflect and he realizes that the only win he had was against Doink, and that might be a catalyst for a gimmick change where he adds facepaint (and now that I'm thinking about it it's been a while since WWE has had a facepainter - Road Warrior Heidenreich was the last I think).

Slater was magnificent during this run. I kind of hope it carries on a bit now with lower tier guys (Mcintyre, Reks, Hawkins etc beating him and him eventually getting a match against a Big Show or a Kane and winning.

Lock Jaw

In regard to WWE using the scratch logo last night, I was told by several sources today that using the logo in flashback sequences is now being approved within the company, so short clips no longer have to be blurred.

Whether that approval will expand to complete matches and other archival footage, I don't know but one source believed the company wanted to come up with a strategy to get rid of the blurring before the planned WWE Network was launched.

What is so stupid about kneeing a guy in the face while he is falling from 6ft? The move can be cumbersome with larger opponents, but it still looks good 98% of the time. I still think he needs an "out of nowhere" finish like the RKO, Codebreaker, Stunner, etc. I was sort of hoping Punk would have done the Pepsi Plunge when he faced HHH at Night of Champions last year.
