Rockstar posted their Q&A and they have some interesting stuff. All of the areas will be open at start. BUT, once you leave the areas you've unlocked and go to another, you get a 4 star wanted level that can't be taken away until you leave. That means you can go explore but cops will be chasing you.

They also say there's no pets or children in the game and they don't like the thought of it in any of them. So I don't think we'll see them, ever.

Here's the whole Q&A:

1. "What are some major improvements in the pedestrian/police AI?" - Casey "Zidane" Mongillo / www.gtagaming.com
R*: Yes. Enemies in general will now do a much better job of taking cover and attempting to flank CJ. Pedestrians are now frightened of things they should be frightened of (like when a large military vehicle appears in a residential area), they hold hands, they have their own daily lives and destinations.

2. "Have the helicopter and plane height limits been increased?" - Gta-Expert / www.gtagaming.com
R*: Massively increased. Mount Chiliad is over half a mile tall, and you can fly well above its height.

3. What methods of air transportation can we expect? – JulioCaesar / PlanetGrandTheftAuto
R*: All kinds, most things you see in the air in the real world you'll see in San Andreas.

4. In several screenshots and the first trailer for San Andreas, Carl was playing basketball and pool. Are these cut scenes or can you play them and also what other mini-games are there? - Gangstaman590 / PlanetGrandTheftAuto
R*: The one of Smoke and Sweet playing basketball was a cutscene. The pool shot is CJ actually playing pool. There are too many mini-games to list here, rest assured there will be tons of fun stuff to do!

5. Will police chase other criminals besides Carl Johnson? For example, will you see a car chase go by with police going after someone? Or if not that, if someone shoots at Carl and a cop sees it, will the cop chase after him or you? - Arjuna Bosch / PlanetGrandTheftAuto
R*: Yes to both questions. San Andreas is a dangerous place, and you're not the only criminal about!

6. "In Vice City, driving a car up onto the packer and then driving the packer results in the car sliding off. Have the physics been changed so that trucks and trailers can carry cars properly? - (GTA3Freak-2001) / GTA Network / GTAScraper
R*: We have a surprise in store for you on this one.

7. Will the gameplay of Las Venturas include gambling, if so, what options are open to us? - (zeppelincheetah) / GTA Network / GTAScraper
R*: Yes on gambling (a number of the mini-games we mentioned). Details on this will be released soon, but I can reveal that there will be a number of gambling types you can choose from.

8. Will we be able to find any sub-plots in the deserts/woods or just random rampages? - (smithstock) / GTA Network / GTAScraper
R*: There are always subplots in GTA games! There will be missions in the countryside and desert along those lines.

9. What will be blocking us from entering the other cities/locations? - (Dead at 4 PM) / GTA Network / GTAScraper
R*: There is some story wrapped up in this, but to answer your question, a 4 star wanted level any time you leave the areas you've opened. And this particular wanted level you cannot shed with things like Pay & Spray or Police Bribes. This means that you can explore areas of the state you haven't opened, but only with a small army of police officers hunting you down!

10. How do you choose actors to voice the characters? Is it a long process, or do you just pick people with well-known names? - SwissMiss33 / GTA Warehouse
R*: It's a long process, we choose actors who will give us the performance we're looking for. Since we don't promote our games based off the voice actors in it, the name recognition isn't important to us.

11. What role have trolleys (trams)? Can we use others public service vehicles like airplanes and boats? - (lefantome) / GTAnetwork.it
R*: They function as public transport, which CJ can use. The train is the other public service you can ride around the state.

12. Will there be animals in San Andreas like dogs, pigs and cows? What kind of interaction we have with them and can they react if scared? - (Thomasbz & El Presy & God_of_GTA) / GTAnetwork.it
R*: No, another funny rumor, that one started by an audio clip on the website that mentioned a K-9 unit. We don't particularly like the idea of children or small fuzzy animals in our games.

13. Can we buy vehicles too or we have just to steal them? - (MxM) / GTAnetwork.it
R*: You can buy vehicles, but not every one in the game. There will be a couple dealers who will sell some of the higher-end vehicles to you, but only after you've done a bit of work for them.

14. We must spend with a game about 150 hours to complete San Andreas. Is this number of hours to complete main story or 100% of the game? - (Mastah) / GTA.pl
R*: That number is really general. We don't like giving a number like that out, because invariably questions like these come up, but people insist on putting a number on the games. Obviously there are very different ways of playing Grand Theft Auto. Some players just like to "play-through", finishing the main storyline or getting to 100% as fast as they can. Other people go at the main storyline at a more leisurely pace. And some people never even really play the story at all, they might just download cheats and sandbox around the map. Our guess of 150 hours is the amount of time we think it would take someone to hit 100% who wasn't rushing through the game as quickly as possible with a strategy guide.

15. In which way we will choose the second gun? From a menu; using other keys, etc.? - (Mastah) / GTA.pl
R*: If you're referring to holding dual-weapons, the second weapon is always the same as the primary so there is no selection process. Once your skill level with a weapon is high enough, holding 2 becomes possible, and they're linked by a single firing button (though you must find a second gun!). If your question is more general, then hopefully this answers it: gun selection works exactly like it did in Vice. You can carry one weapon of each type at a time. If you want to replace your current weapon with another of the same type, hold down L1 while standing over it. Your old weapon will be permanently discarded. Cycle though your available weapons with L2 and R2. Circle to fire!

16. When R* make their vector images of GTA characters and stuff, do they start with an actual screenshot or photo or just start drawing it from scratch? - Tibor
Vehicles are often created from renders or screenshots, and characters are most often done off of photographs or concept sketches. You'll be interested to note though, Tibor, that the images are drawn by hand with pencil and ink. They're then scanned and colored in Adobe Photoshop. Once finished, the images are hand-traced in Adobe Illustrator, a labor-intensive process, but the results are worth it!

17. Is it easy to get rich or will have to battle your way trough the game? - (Christoph Decker) / gtareactor.de
R*: If you focus on earning money, you will find ways to add to your roll even early on. As usual with Grand Theft Auto, how you spend your time is up to you!

18. When did you start working on SA? Did you work on it simultaneously with Vice City? - Alexander Grenberg / GTAsajten
R*: We started work right as Vice City was finishing up.

19. There were 97 vehicles in gta vice city, how many are there going to be in gta san andreas? - (Martin Glomb) / www.gta-action.com
R*: San Andreas will have over double the number of vehicles in Vice City.

IGN and Gamespot have put up some in game footage. The gamespot videos require you to have a membership (which I do). There is one that has CJ on a motorcycle doing some flips and turns in the air and another with CJ driving a car through a small gap in a series of homes doing an insane stunt (you can hear the slowed motion of the helicopters) which ends with a ped saying "Punk ass bitch mother..."

I haven't watched any of the trailers, so I haven't seen this in motion.
I haven't been following what's in it obsessively, so I think I could be in for a nice suprise :)

Gamespot has an update on interactivity in the game so I would guess IGN does too. Here's some quick notes:

CJ has many different moods that he articulates through over 4,200 comments. This number excludes the over 3,500 scripted comments and lines in the over two hours of motion-captured cut-scenes.

There's fat CJ, pissed-off CJ, wisecracking CJ, and sweet-talking CJ, to name just a few.

After being talked to you can tap left on the D-pad for a negative comment and right for a positive.

You'll find over 300 different kinds of pedestrians in the game, with 60,000 different comments.

Citizens talk to each other about their lives along with taunting and so forth.

*Co-Op Mode - 2 player rampages: either in a car or on foot. The screen is not split. There are also many other two player features, presumably gambling games and the minigames basketball and pool.

*Use your camera to take pictures of things and save them to your memory card

*You must spray over a possible 100 other opposing gang tags around the cities with your own gang sign and a spraypaint can, for a part of the 100%

*Oysters are the equivalent of the underwater hidden package, find them all for a reward

*Horseshoes also need to be found, (speculation: maybe the new hidden package)?

*The addition of girlfriends in the game, who'll you'll have to please to get something in return

*There is dancing in the game, DDR style, which is used to impress dates

*You learn to parachute (either from a plane or base-jumping) from a flight school

*There are hovercrafts, and even a forklift

*Play poker, craps, blackjack, wheel of fortune, or slots

Carl Johnson - Young Maylay
Sweet Johnson - Faizon Love

Well, I've given into temptation and have pre-ordered this game for when it comes out friday. I'll be honest, I haven't been following the development of this game at all. All I know about it is that you have to eat right and can get hair cuts. I loved the previous 2 games, so there is no doubt that I will enjoy this one too.

I can't wait to drive an oil tanker down that gigantic mountain that looks so fucking high from the video at the official site. I just hope that there's some kinda path for me to drive on so I can get to the topic easily. I'm looking forward to working out a lot since I don't wanna end up skinny or fat. I'll probably drive bikes up and down the hills of SF to stay in top shape during the game. After I get a 100% I'm gonna get extremely fat!:D

I'm gonna spend my money on other things. That way by the time I save up my money to get this I won't have to worry about it not being there or there being huge crowds...

Then again, I bet there is a whole population of stinky fat kids who have their parents buy the game six times over a month because they either break the disks, lose them, or just want extras. Those kids will piss me off something fierce, and I won't get out of their way when they're walking down the aisle. I'll bump into them. I swear I will!

So far I'm not overly impressed with it. I can tell there are going to be a lot of new features, but nothing too noticeable right away. To do a lot of the more fun stuff you'll have to be farther and/or have a lot higher stats. For somebody like me that's not a hardcore GTA fan and doesn't intend to finish the game, it kinda sucks because I know I won't be able to check out some of the really cool new things.

On a side note, the jumping fences thing is cool.

DS

I've been playing it for almost a day, now, and I've spent most of my time exploring the level. The game is fucking awesome, and way better than Vice City, but I'd like to point out a couple of cons:

-The radar sucks. It's such an enormous map limited to a tiny circle, and when you have multiple icons in one area, it's very difficult to find that place you're looking for. Also, dark blue and black is considerably more difficult to see than the bright pink of Vice City. I always find myself pausing the game and then zooming in on the map to find out where I'm going. The map is absolutely fucking huge, so navigation is a lot harder this time around.

-The health system sucks. A red bar that changes to a darker red when you get hit? I'd much rather have my exact health flashing on the screen. Countless times have I failed missions because I died when I didn't even know I had no health left.

-Weapons/cash/items... where are they? Vice City was littered with this stuff. Even with the strategy guide, I can't find anything, and the stuff that I've found [pistols and stuff] don't glow like in Vice City, they just float, and they're black, so they're insanely hard to see when you're exploring. I've been playing a day and only have a grand, a pistol, and a weak uzi with barely any bullets in it. No health and armor anywhere, and Ammu-Nation is closed at the start. I'm finding it a little boring so far to explore because I never find anything, but I'm sure that'll change once the game opens up a little more.

-The radio. Even though Radio X is a nice station to listen to, there actually seems to be less music and of a lesser variety in the game, and the talk show is just a shell of the original.

-The ghetto rap theme. I was hoping it would just be a theme, but so far the beginning of the game is drenched in it, and it's a little annoying to here "fool" and "dawg" and "homey" and "fuckin' bitch" after every word these guys say.

Besides those tidbits, I have nothing but the utmost praise of ridiculousness for the game. I'm loving it.

I think I'll be able to go to SF tomorrow since I'm already doing missions for the cops.

House of Pancakes
10-26-2004, 11:08 PM
I think the main difference in this game is that they made it so you DON'T want attention from the cops or anything like that, because it's so easy to die, because of the bad health system and because I've noticed you [and other opponents] die a lot faster in this game. I just did a quick drive-by on three or four rival gang members in hopes of getting some cash, I killed two, the other two pulled me out. As I was fighting one, the other guy shot me to death in like five seconds. It's kind of annoying how limited I am from the start of the game, and in order to get more into it, I HAVE to complete missions, which are the most frustrating, obnoxious part of the game.

GTA's beauty has always been AFTER you do everything. Completing the game for the first time isn't very much fun.

I have a question, because this game is really very hard and I'm having lots of trouble progressing through the game. I have a couple places to go to, and all of the missions I have to do are hard.

What do you all do to make money? I have five thousand dollars after going through quite a bunch of missions.

Also, does anyone think a map THIS FUCKING HUGE might have some possible disadvantages, like having to spend the longest time driving around to locations? It takes me a good couple minutes to drive from one end of town to the other in the first part of the game; I can't imagine what it's gonna be like when the other 80% of the map is unlocked.

Quick comment, also: They should've kept the idea in Vice City, where if you fail a mission, a cab can take you right back to where you were. The map is way too big to drive around like a madman, only to fail the mission in the fourth step and have to start all over again.

This game really is great, and it sounds like I'm whining, but it's considerably harder than the other two. I'm having trouble with it, big-time. It's much easier to die. I'm afraid to go around rampaging at all because, firstly, anywhere outside of Ganton is filled with rival gangs who are always gunning me down [this has been the main thing that's been KILLING me], and when you die in six or seven shots, there's not much of a shoot-out factor. This is the general reason why cash and weapons are so hard to come by.

In order to get money you should do a whole bunch of taxi missions since that's always fun IMO. You can go to the shaded parts of the cities by flying the dodo which looks like a cessna at the LS airport. You need to go to the entrance with that gigantic semi with a ramp and take another car and ride it over the gate. Than you'll have to take that car and drive it up another ramp which will get you across another gate. The dodo well be in plain sight and you can enter it easily. The only thing that I found strange is that you have to use it a lot like the choppers in VC when your on the ground. It is fun since you can go extremely high in the air but don't go out of the city limits unless you wanna get 4 stars. A fighter jet will go after you if you leave the LS area. Your plane will survive one missle but the next will bring you down. However you can dodge missles but that's a hassle since you have to look behind you a lot.

road doggy dogg
10-27-2004, 11:52 PM
LOL yeah, driving the taxis is cool. It's funny too, because the whole doing jobs is better than the entire game of Crazy Taxi, which is based just on that. GTA rules.

Also, Radio X has to be based off the Detroit radio station, 89X. If anyone's ever listened to 89X, you will know what I mean. Well that, and the obvious 'X' similarity.

I would blame the parent for not telling their child that Video Games just like movies are not real and that the things done in the movies/ in games are not ment to be tried in real life, you could get hurt... my Father taught me that when I was 4 and I have never done anything stupid, I am smart enough to know better.

This game is not made for kids or adults. It's made for people who is either sick, evil, racist or irresponsible. Enjoying this game is like enjoying the devil.

I know people always use the movies and games arguments. Except games is control by you, you determine what happens next. Everything is plan by you.

I own, play and enjoy violent games before but I haven't seen a game this extreme. It's like enjoying wrestling(which I do) but hating Backyard wrestling. There is a certain level to take the game to. Like I said, in the next GTA we will probably see a Burn Down a church or Robbed a Priest mission. Or Kill your enemy pregnant girl?

It obvious Rockstar don't have limits.

I've had to turn away at least 4 or 5 people trying to buy the game because they were under the age of 17. They probably went right down the street to Wal-Mart and bought it anyway, but whatever.

The missions keep getting better and better, especially the ones for Big Smoke.

I also managed to end up somewhere I wasn't supposed to be for the first time. I was swimming and climbed up on some little area and then my wanted level jumped way up. I was met with speeding cars, helicopters, a solid lineup of guys that looked like state troopers or something, all holding rifles and such. It was awesome :D

Oh and one more note. My mom mentioned seeing a news story about how this game isn't for kids and she didn't think a game could really be that bad. However, as she was telling me this she witnessed me knocking over an old woman and running a chainsaw through her. She was pretty disgusted by the whole thing

Well thank God that's over. I thought you'd never shut up.

Seriously though. For the people who have the game, Has anyone found any characters that are from the other games? The radiostations all seem to have new DJs and the voice cast only has Ken Rosenberg listed as a character. (Which worries me, because he was a member of the Vercetti gang, and being that he's now on the West Coast, it makes me think that maybe Tommy got killed.

Also, has anyone found Tanner yet? The war between GTA and Driver always seems to make its way into the game somewhere, so I'm wondering where he is.

Pretty sad. I mean, by most people's standards, I'm pretty tight-assed, but I don't find anything wrong with the game at all. It's just a game, that's all it is. If you can't distinguish the game from reality, then you have no business playing. If someone, like you said, in Compton played the game, then thought they were 'hard' because of it, then they have much much bigger problems to worry about than hearing the 'n' word a few times in a video game.

I don't give a fuck what you think about this game. I'm an atheist so I don't really give a fuck about that. It's good that people like you are not in charge since you'd probably ban games like this even though you fail to realize that 99% or the people who play SA are wise enough to realize that it's just a game and thar they shouldn't go around killing people. Hell I don't even understand why you have to say that we're sick and violent just because you don't like the games were playing.

The racing mission is very easy as long as you don't lose control of the car. Control over speed! But for the donut shop you gotta go to the bold O on your radar.

I've discovered that the best time to go out into the woods when you want to get spooked is around 2 AM in the morning. I beat all of Catilina's missions which gave me lots of cash but not quite enough to purchase the house in the country that I want. There aren't any properties that I can buy right now in SF. I wonder when that's gonna change:(

Yea, that was awesome. The next mission from Big Smoke is pretty sweet too. I still haven't beat it yet though

It's been the coolest mission in the game so far. I love the Desert Eagle pistol, it mows these guys down. The motorcycle chase is tricky; you just have to be careful of blowing yourself up.

Still haven't gotten to San Fierro yet. Can't wait until I do. I can't believe there are two more enormous cities to unlock. I haven't even really explored the countryside of Los Santos yet. I was only up there looking around once.

QUESTION: I tried the Burning Desire mission [the first one for the corrupt cops]. I found it pretty simple to throw molotovs through the windows and shoot down the gang members, but once I had to save the chick inside the house, I burned to death. The strategy guide says to "use the stairs in the back of the house," but the house has like 10 different rooms. Can anybody instruct me where to go directly from entering the house? I'd appreciate it. I'm just anxious to get to San Fierro. Once things get less hectic and I'm comfortable in terms of money and guns, that's when I'm REALLY gonna go searching around for cool stuff. But for now, I just wanna unlock more stuff.

VJW
10-28-2004, 10:35 PM
I wouldn't use a guide since those really ruin the game IMO. For that mission I suggest that you just be extremely careful while your climbing up. You'll find out that there's a fire extinguisher in the kitchen when you reach the bitch and than everything is easy. There's a nice surprise at the end of this mission but it gets boring after a while. You're not gonna like this girl . . .

I hate GTA races. They're not races. They suck. You get stuck with a car with crappy handling, against six other guys who all gang up on your car until the race is over. My low-rider lasted no more than 20 seconds both times I tried that race, and I used to win every race in Vice City.

I dunno, I haven't played a lot of GTA3, or any Vice City at all, so I can't compare. But the one I have been trying, is just the 8-track one. It is ridiculous. I can do decently, like I was in 3rd place after about 6 laps, then my car exploded. There is no way they can expect you to finish 12 laps without exploding your car, all the while trying to at least maintain some sort of speed required to place. Awful.

Where are the parachuts at?

The only one that I've found is no top of the mountain near Angelpine. It's really fun to use since you can jump out of the Boeings if you buy a ticket. Haven't tried it yet but I've seen the instructions at the bottom of the screen.

I'm currently trying to gain enough money to buy the 10,000 dollar home next to the LS airport since it'll be very easy to go to SF if I'm too lazy to drive on the highway. The highway is actually lots of fun since I see tons of accidents occur on it. It's also fun 'cause I look like the terminator right now and it feels good to be able to stand up if I get thrown off my bike and shoot the person responsible.

Another thing that I find cool is the fact that there are a lot more properties. I only have 2 right now but they're both really good IMO. I can't wait until I buy all of them so I can save in small villages whenever I'm tired or mom is telling me to stop playing.

Is it hard to control the train? I hear that you have to slow down on turns otherwise you'll end up driving right off the tracks.
