Zack Wheeler had a bad start last night, and so the Mets have scratched his start at home next Friday against the Cubs. He'll now make his debut during the double header in Atlanta on Tuesday, June 18th.

So they've already fucked over a bunch of people who bought tickets to next Friday's game to see Wheeler...although at least Harvey is lined up for that night so it's not a total loss. But they can really fuck over pretty much the entire fanbase by debuting him during a weekday day game.

Mets lose 2-1 after 20 innings. Shaun Marcum remains winless on the year and takes the loss after 8 innings of relief.

Mets go 0-19 with RISP.

Putting records aside, the Marlins are a better team than the Mets. At least they have some promising young players and are about to get better with Stanton about to return and Yelich soon to debut.

Got pissed after Casey Janssen blew the save in the 9th and had an hour nap. Woke up to check who won and the game was still going. Thank God for Rajah Davis.

Jays bullpen has been ridiculously good aside for Janssen's inning.

Top rated draft pick from 2011, Garret Cole makes his long awaited debut in the majors on Tuesday evening against the Giants. I cannot fucking wait to see what goes down.....He's only allowed 2 hits in the last 20 innings, but that is the minors.

Thoroughly was enjoying the Orioles game until the delay happened. That 6th inning was awesome and there is something "whimsical" or "childlike" about watching a game where the guys are playing in the mud and pouring rain...

so then I switched over to the Blue Jays/Sox game...lasted 10 seconds before they called it for fog...

SOOOO....then I switched the the RedSox vs Rays game and within 1 minute of it being in I see Joyce hit by a pitch and the benches getting cleared in an all out donny broook.
kinda....

but yeah... A GREAT NIGHT FOR BASEBALL

Damian Rey
06-11-2013, 09:02 AM
I think the way Atlanta is using Gattis is brilliant. Hes below average at getting on base, and if he plays every day, that probably gets exploited. Instead, giving him regular at bats as the premier bench guy gives him a chance to do a lot of damage without getting over exposed and possibly slumping. Brilliant.

Boomer
06-11-2013, 09:18 AM
Gattis is average at getting on base (better than Simmons, Heyward, Uggla, and BJ Upton right now), and leads the team in OPS and HR. He led the teams in RBIs for a while as well. I think he is maybe the best bench bat in the league, but I hate that we don't have a place to put him.

#Braves Gattis is 6-for-8 with a double and four homers as a pinch-hitter. Just absurd.
— David O'Brien (@ajcbraves) June 11, 2013

Damian Rey

Just looked him up, and you're right about his obp. Hadn't looked in a but. He pikes on RBIs because hes hitting for ungodly power in RBI spots, including pinch hitting. He still gets steady playing time, and thats been a huge plus for Atl. Considering hes got no position, they're doing a good job utilizing him.

Boomer
06-11-2013, 03:21 PM
He has had the most plate attempts for any catcher on the team, but if McCann had started the year I'm not sure we'd be talking much about Gattis. I've just watched more games that I would like of the Braves offense scuffling and Gattis being stuck on the bench. I want him to play because I want him to get enough experience to continue adjusting to the Majors. It's likely that McCann is on his way out in ATL, so this might only be a problem this year.

And I do hope they make an exception and put him in the HR Derby. He'd be a prime candidate.

Boomer

Braves lose 3-2, and Gattis sits on the bench the whole game. Not sure why they didn't pinch hit Gattis for McCann in the 9th since they had a lefty pitching.

The Mets have promised Terry Collins that his job is safe for this year and his contract status will be revisited at the end of the season. More troubling though, reports out of Mets camp is that Wally Backman has ZERO chance of managing the team despite him moving up the ranks of the organization. They feel he would be too much of a headcase to deal with the NY media.

Because why would you ever want a manager that the players have raved about and that would rejuvenate the fan base? I'm sure the Bob Geren Era will inspire more confidence.

That is true, he had an issue with his slider breaking too much and becoming incredibly wild and then his fastball would get hammered.

Padres take two of four in Colorado, and played so well, Cargo, Fowler and Tulo were all injured shortly after, then sweep Atlanta, and rattle off a fourth consecutive victory, defeating Arizona last night on "1998 Night".

They're, I believe, just a game or two under 500, and have gone something like 26 or 27 and 19 after starting 5-15.

They still don't have enough starting pitching to make this last. Stults and Marquis are smoke and mirroring their way to solid seasons, but you can't bank on guys with low strikeout totals and below average BABIPs to keep it going. At some point, they will get hit. Volquez is too inconsistent, and Clayton Richard has never been anything more than a league average pitcher, and he's been less than that pretty much since 2010. Cashner is great, but he's an injury risk, and this is his first full season as a starter.

If the Padres somehow miraculously get enough games over .500 to get into contention, they're going to need some starting pitching. Not a ton out there that's readily available, and I'd rather not drain the farm of talent when I still think the team is another year or two away.

The City of San Jose has filed a lawsuit against MLB for "dragging their feet" about the Athletics relocation vote.

From espn.com

SAN FRANCISCO -- Major League Baseball is dragging its feet on having team owners vote on the Oakland Athletics (http://espn.go.com/mlb/team/_/name/oak/oakland-athletics)' proposed move to a new ballpark 40 miles south in San Jose, San Jose city officials said in a lawsuit filed Tuesday.

The lawsuit -- filed in federal court in San Jose -- is disputing MLB's exemption to federal antitrust law, which MLB has used as a "guise" to control the location of teams, according to the suit.

"It's time for someone to take on this supposed baseball exemption from antitrust laws," said attorney Phil Gregory of Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy, the law firm representing the city. "The City of San Jose is a perfect candidate to make that challenge."

The San Francisco Giants (http://espn.go.com/mlb/team/_/name/sf/san-francisco-giants) have objected to the A's potential move on grounds they relied on territorial rights to the San Jose-area market when they built their ballpark, AT&T Park.

The A's say those rights were only meant to support the Giants' failed efforts in the early 1990s to build a San Jose-area ballpark themselves.

MLB commissioner Bud Selig appointed a committee more than four years ago to study the potential move.

He rejected a proposal earlier this year from San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed to sit down and talk about the A's plans and said Reed's reference to additional litigation at the time was "neither productive nor consistent with process that the Athletics have initiated under our rules."

The A's and Major League Baseball officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

A's owner Lew Wolff has said he is focused on a new stadium in San Jose rather than a move outside the Bay Area. Wolff is allowed to consider other sites within the A's territory -- such as downtown Oakland -- but approval from MLB would be needed for a move outside the territory.

The A's current stadium is run down. A sewage problem forced the A's and Seattle Mariners (http://espn.go.com/mlb/team/_/name/sea/seattle-mariners) to use the same locker room after Sunday's game.

The pipes backed up on the lower levels of the stadium, creating a stink and pools of water in the clubhouses used by both teams and the umpires.
Gregory said Wolff is not involved in the lawsuit.

The Fraze
06-18-2013, 06:24 PM
San Jose is The Giants' territory, plain and simple. It's really not that difficult to grasp. The A's shouldn't have rights to it, regardless of which side you're on. If the A's do move out of Oakland (which I don't think they should, just like I didn't think the 49ers should move out of San Francisco to Santa Clara, despite San Jose being my hometown), then they should relocate to Sacramento. Sacramento already has a stadium that houses their Triple-A affiliate and can be built upon to support a major league club. Plus, with the new downtown arena coming to town and The Kings staying, Sacramento is going to be an up and coming sports market.

New details from the Miami clinic were revealed.

* MLB paid the marketing director of the clinic about $5,000 in order to gain partial access to the records they needed for their investigation. Also as a way to prevent players from purchasing it themselves. Tried to buy out the rest for another $10,000 but the guy refused and was already fearing for his life.
* A-Rod supposedly bribed the founder of the clinic around $4,000 in order to make sure he wasn't exposed and any problems taken care of.
* A-Rod also was still having meetings with the founder as late as last year's ALCS without the Yankees even aware these meetings were going on.

Why the fuck would the Padres trade their best player (having a down year but still) to the Yankees for a guy who is going to be a free agent (and who is also having a shit year)?

I'd love to be able to trade my team's crappy players for good players.

We're looking for a way out with A-Rod...., and Youkilis ain't coming back anytime soon.

And Petco Park is pitcher friendly. Maybe some of those Home Runs can turn into fly balls for Phil Hughes.

Another horrible showing by Bailey. Ended up getting demoted again by the Red Sox from the closer's spot and is either the 2nd or 3rd time this season that's happened.

Around 7 runs allowed, 4 HRs, and 3 blown saves in the span of about a week.

Brett has always worn them. Cecil had lost velocity while he was starting but was very good against lefties so the Jays put him in the pen as a LOOGY and told him to throw as hard as he wants.
