The way the refs are calling the playoffs really favors the Seahawks defense because they are so handsy and cunty all the time. Harbaugh may just tell our secondary to stab people if they aren't going to call anything.

Every big hit is illegal, every pass is interference on the defense, and every hit on the quarterback is roughing the passer. The 49ers are a bunch of GOONS.

Right, I hate Seattle so much I think they're becoming the Dodgers for me. That's how I used to feel about the Cowboys.

Illegal contact? Witness: Jets' Kellen Winslow Jr. was masturbating in his car

When Jets tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. was arrested for possession of synthetic marijuana outside a Target in East Hanover back in November, police were called to the scene because a woman thought she saw him masturbating in his vehicle in the parking lot, according to court documents.
The redacted incident report from East Hanover police shows that on Nov. 19 at 5:30 p.m., cops responded to a call from a woman who said she had parked her vehicle in a spot to the right of a black Cadillac Escalade outside the Target along Route 10. A man was sitting inside the Escalade with the window open, said the woman, whose name was redacted in the incident report. That man would later be identified as Winslow, 30, who lives in Madison.
From the report:
As she exited her vehicle, she commented to the male regarding how cold it was. As she stood near the open driver side window of the Escalade, she observed the males [sic] erect penis. She stated that she believed he was masturbating. [The woman] provided a written statement regarding her account.
By the time police arrived, an officer found Winslow allegedly "slouched in his seat and moving around." Winslow sprang to an upright position when the officer arrived. When the cop asked Winslow what he was doing, Winslow allegedly said he was looking for Boston Market but was lost.
The cop noticed Winslow was wearing "dark colored" sweatpants and wrote that "his genitals were not exposed." But the cop also noticed "two open containers of Vaseline on his center console" and plastic bags marked "Mr. Happy" and empty plastic containers of "Funky Monkey" scattered throughout the vehicle.
Winslow allegedly told police he smoked the "Mr. Happy" and "Funky Monkey" at his home to relax because the NFL doesn't drug test for it, and that he buys the stuff on the internet and at gas stations. Police say he consented to a vehicle search, and after a few items were seized into evidence, Winslow was free to go.
Lab tests that came back on Dec. 23 revealed Winslow was in possession of synthetic marijuana. He was formally charged on Dec. 30, and last week he pleaded not guilty before a judge in Superior Court in Morristown.
The incident report lists lewdness among the alleged crimes, but Winslow was not charged with anything relating to alleged lewdness.
A 10-year NFL veteran, Winslow just finished his first season with the Jets. He is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent in 2014.
The entire East Hanover police incident report can be found below.

To be fair Seattle is a lot closer to SF than Foxboro is to Denver if there is bitching.

Also we are used to it because the Colts used to do the same thing to us when they were relevant.

Nah, just for the Jets. But MSG had this huge campaign against it because it's close by and they didn't want the competition obviously and the Knicks ownership are f*cking dickheads. Like tons of commercials all the time paid for by MSG urging people to be against it. So instead they just built another joint stadium with the Giants.

And anything bad said about Sherman is just going to sound like sour grapes, but come on. Making choking gestures and calling Crabtree a sorry receiver right after the game is a bit much. Not only is it all unsportsmanlike, but it is really selfish making everything about him. Fucking ridiculously good player though.

It's called a rivalry where Sherman, literally, just won the biggest game of the teams career. Is Reggie Miller scum for doing he choking sign in New York? Come on now. This is the one serious rivalry in the NFL and as a NFL fan I am loving the passion from both teams. Just happened that Seattle had the last say this season.

If it makes you feel better, Denver will crush them without ther home field advantage.

Considering it was a rivalry game, makes sense that there was a ton of bad blood and trash talking although do agree that Sherman went a bit overboard mostly because of his antics at the end than what he actually said.

Also means next year's 49ers-Seahawks game is going to be another must see matchup when it occurs.

Richard Sherman

What a night, and what a finish.

Near midnight I still had about 70 unread text messages from friends and family, most of which read, “Best interview ever!” Many of my Twitter mentions were less supportive. My body ached. I was thrilled and proud and upset, all at once.

Here’s what happened …

I spent most of the game on an island: I was targeted only twice during the entire NFC Championship. The first produced a BS holding call against me; the second ended the game. Michael Crabtree stutter-stepped out of his break on first down and sprinted toward the end zone. I was in good position for a pick until he pushed me in the back. My interception became a tip and an interception for Malcolm Smith in the end zone.

Game over. The Seahawks are in the Super Bowl.

I ran over to Crabtree to shake his hand but he ignored me. I patted him, stuck out my hand and said, “Good game, good game.” That’s when he shoved my face, and that’s when I went off.

I threw a choking sign at 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Why? Because he decided he was going to try the guy he was avoiding all game, because, I don’t know, he’s probably not paying attention for the game-winning play. C’mon, you’re better than that.

“It was loud, it was in the moment, and it was just a small part of the person I am.”

Erin Andrews interviewed me after the game and I yelled what was obvious: If you put a subpar player across from a great one, most of the time you’re going to get one result. As far as Crabtree being a top-20 NFL receiver, you’d have a hard time making that argument to me.

There are a lot of receivers playing good ball out there, and Josh Gordon needed 14 games to produce almost double what Crabtree can do in a full season. And Gordon had Brandon Weeden, Brian Hoyer and Jason Campbell playing quarterback.

But that’s not why I don’t like the man. It goes back to something he said to me this offseason in Arizona, but you’d have to ask him about that. A lot of what I said to Andrews was adrenaline talking, and some of that was Crabtree. I just don’t like him.

It was loud, it was in the moment, and it was just a small part of the person I am. I don’t want to be a villain, because I’m not a villainous person. When I say I’m the best cornerback in football, it’s with a caveat: There isn’t a great defensive backfield in the NFL that doesn’t have a great front seven. Everything begins with pressure up front, and that’s what we get from our pass rushers every Sunday. To those who would call me a thug or worse because I show passion on a football field—don’t judge a person’s character by what they do between the lines. Judge a man by what he does off the field, what he does for his community, what he does for his family.

But people find it easy to take shots on Twitter, and to use racial slurs and bullying language far worse than what you’ll see from me. It’s sad and somewhat unbelievable to me that the world is still this way, but it is. I can handle it.

One thing I can’t accept is what I read after the game about Seahawks fans throwing food at 49ers linebacker Navorro Bowman as he was being carted off the field with his knee injury. If it’s true, it’s beyond terrible. That’s as low as it gets. I’m sure whoever did this is in a small minority of fans, because I don’t think that kind of action is an accurate representation of the character of the 12th man. Navorro Bowman is a great player who plays the game the right way. When he went down, I dropped to a knee and prayed for him. He deserves better than having food thrown at him as he’s carted off a field. All players deserve better than that.

So here we are, in the Super Bowl. New York-bound. There will be a lot of talking, but at this point, after 18 games, there’s nothing left to say. We have the right mindset, and nothing can change that. We’ve treated every week like a championship opportunity and we’ll obviously continue to think that way. We deserve to be here. We didn’t sneak into the Super Bowl; we earned our way. Now every goal we set forth at the beginning of the season is in front of us.

The Broncos stand in our way, and it’s a large obstacle. They’ve got the smartest quarterback in football and receivers who are large (mostly), explosive with the football and run great routes. Wes Welker is quick and elusive, Eric Decker is a great receiver with hands and speed, and Demaryius Thomas is as strong as they come. And Peyton knows how to get each of them in spots.

It’s the No. 1 offense vs. the No. 1 defense. It’s a match made in heaven, and we couldn’t be more excited. If you’re any kind of competitor and you have any kind of dog about you, you want to play against the best. Finally, we get the opportunity.

Changing the Story

http://www.sportsonearth.com/assets/images/2/3/2/66873232/cuts/richard_sherman_7chefqau_bmex5r3l@2x.jpg
There is more to Seattle's Richard Sherman than one WWE-style postgame interview. (USA TODAY Sports)

Richard Sherman is everything one could want in a professional athlete. He is a walking example of the difference sports can make, of how one man can channel fierce intelligence and an almost frightening competitive fire into something productive and riveting. He is precisely the type of person you should cheer for.

Sherman graduated from Compton's Dominguez High School with straight-A grades -- better than straight-A grades, actually, thanks to all the advanced placement classes he insisted on taking. Raised by a father who works as a garbage man and a mother who teaches disabled children, Sherman chose to go to Stanford to play football because of its academic reputation.

His charity, Blanket Coverage (https://www.facebook.com/ShermanBlanketCoverage), is impressively specific: It focuses solely on providing school supplies for inner-city kids, making sure they have the most updated textbooks and materials. Unheralded by the pros after he requested, before his junior year, to be moved from the glamour position of wide receiver to cornerback, he has worked his way into one of the best corners by force of will. The man is a state of matter. He is absurdly smart (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbQGlO0B5nY). He is an inspiration. (Most of these details taken from this terrific Jon Wilner story (http://www.mercurynews.com/sports/ci_24948663/richard-sherman-what-makes-him-tick) in the San Jose Mercury News from September.)

Of course, that's not what everyone will want to talk to Richard Sherman about for the next two weeks. They'll just want to talk about this.

That's a full-blown wrestling promo, delivered with impressive professionalism: Sherman stares straight ahead, never stumbles over his words and doesn't curse or say anything untoward. Considering he'd just played three hours of football -- considering he had just made the terrific play that clinched his team's trip to the Super Bowl -- it's amazing he wasn't panting and gasping, let alone delivering impassioned soliloquies into a camera on national television. It might seem strange to you or me that he would seem less interested in celebrating his first trip to the Super Bowl than he was destroying poor Michael Crabtree in front of the whole world. (As I (http://twitter.com/williamfleitch/status/425099566611173376)joked (https://twitter.com/williamfleitch/status/425099566611173376) last night (http://twitter.com/williamfleitch/status/425099566611173376), he was basically saying, "It's so great to finally be here tonight, fulfilling my lifelong dream. Ever since I was little, I dreamt of humiliating Michael Crabtree.") But then again, that's one of the million reasons Richard Sherman is one of the best players in the NFL, and you and I are not. Heck, he even kept going after him after the game (http://espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/2013/story/_/id/10321064/2013-nfl-playoffs-richard-sherman-takes-shots-michael-crabtree), in interviews and on Twitter.

That postgame interview immediately changed the story of Super Bowl XLVII from "Will Peyton Manning win a championship and then retire?" or "Is the game going to get snowed out?" to "RICHARD SHERMAN RICHARD SHERMAN RICHARD SHERMAN." It is amazing what 10 seconds of television can do.

I'd suggest this is nothing but a positive thing. Sherman is a thrilling athlete and fascinating human being, one who has been bracingly honest about everything in the sport, from performance-enhancing drugs (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/06/11/richard-sherman-seahawks-ped-problem_n_3423410.html), to the practice of running up the score (http://www.usatoday.com/story/gameon/2012/12/24/jim-harbaugh-pete-carroll-seattle-seahawks-s) and the delight in taunting Tom Brady (http://vlsportysexycool.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Sherman-tweet.jpg). It's odd that the media often lines up against him, because after what he did to Skip Bayless on "First Take" last year, we should all consider him our best friend.

"You have never accomplished anything." "I am better at life than you." I know we're not supposed to acknowledge Bayless -- acknowledging Bayless is the air that Bayless breathes -- but who can resist that?

The point is, Richard Sherman, that unlikely hero, that Stanford honors student, that beautiful lunatic, is going to be the center of the biggest event in sports for the next two weeks. The more you research him, the more you learn about him, the more you understand where he his coming from … the more you get it. So many athletes claim they aren't respected, that they're misunderstood, that No One Believed In Them. Sherman has the benefit of being right about that. It drives him. All told, I can think of few better representatives of what football is about.

What I love the most about Sherman, though, is that he's self-aware. He knows what all this is. Witness a commercial Sherman filmed for Beats by Dre headphones, released only yesterday, as if he saw all this coming all along.

That strikes me as not only an accurate version of what Sherman's Super Bowl Media Day is going to look like, but also a depressingly dead-on representation of how athletes view the media ... and vice versa. (The snarl from one reporter -- "he thinks he's so f---ing untouchable" -- is one anyone who's been part of a few media scrums will recognize.) Sherman is in on the joke. Except it's not a joke. If you were to ask me who I trusted to have a better understanding of what goes on in the sport of football, of the dynamic between athletes and the general public, of the carnival of professional sports, I'm going to trust Sherman far more than those of us talking about him this morning. Including me.

Sherman has said he plans on being a commentator when he retires from the game. ("So I can keep talking.") He's going to be terrific at it: He's going to be different in a way the Erin Andrews' interview barely even touches on. We're going to see so many microphones in his face over the next fortnight, and I can't wait. He's smarter than we are. Maybe we can all learn something.

Can't totally rule out 49ers/Seahawks as well but they play twice and I assume NBC will get one of those games for prime time regardless.

If the Broncos win, the 49ers visiting them to start the year would be a good choice. If NBC were dead set on keeping the opening night matchup within the conference, Colts @ Broncos would probably be the pick.

Sherman's "choking" gesture was a taunt meant to disparage Karpernick in the same way Kaepernick's Superman celebration was meant to disparage Cam Newton last week. Kaepernick "out-Supermaned" Newton and he let him know it. Kapernick choked in the 4th quarter this week and Sherman let him know it. There's really no difference.

So were doing away with extra point kicks, a TD automatically is worth 7 but you can "go for 1" via run/pass to get 8. Where's the downside of going for the 8th point? You should lose the automatic 7th point if you go for the extra point and don't convert or there should be some other penalty. NFL wants more 50-49 games, which sucks.

Here is a big reason why Super Bowl Sunday sucks in Canada.

From The Globe And Mail:

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/industry-news/marketing/dont-blame-us-for-super-bowl-signal-swap-crtc-head-warns-rogers/article16502732/

Don’t blame us for Super Bowl signal swap, CRTC head warns Rogers

Besides the weather, it is Canadians’ favourite thing to complain about at this time of year. During Super Bowl commercial breaks, Americans see adorable baby animals, slightly less adorable computer-animated babies and a long line of celebrities cashing cheques. But in Canada, viewers are stuck with the usual ads and promos for The Big Bang Theory.

The reason is “simultaneous substitution,” a rule that allows domestic networks such as CTV and CITY-TV to ask cable and satellite TV distributors to swap out an American station’s signal (and commercials) for their own, if the Canadian station is airing the same program at the same time. The process means that Canadian viewers miss out on some of North America’s best new television advertising during football’s annual championship – and the country’s federal broadcast regulator is tired of taking the blame.

On Friday, chairman Jean-Pierre Blais wrote a letter to Rogers Communications Inc. asking that it stop pointing the finger at the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission when viewers complain about being forced to watch Canadian signals on U.S. channels.

Mr. Blais wrote that “the time has come for broadcasters and distributors to start speaking up on simultaneous substitution rather than simply passing blame onto the CRTC.”

This time of year is a PR headache for the commission as complaints about the system skyrocket, largely because of the NFL playoffs. With reports that advertisers spend roughly $4-billion (U.S.) for 30 seconds of advertising time during the Super Bowl broadcast, for some the commercials are part of the fun of watching the big game. But Canadians have to take to the internet or a TV antenna to see them.

Mr. Blais’s letter was the result of an exchange on Twitter this week. On Jan. 19, during the broadcast of the NFL playoff game that sent the Seattle Seahawks to the final, a Rogers cable customer tweeted a message to the company’s customer service complaining about seeing CTV’s commercials on the Fox television feed.

“It’s due to the CRTC rules so no way to watch the Fox feed sorry,” a Rogers representative replied.

The rules, however, are more complex: TV networks are the ones who ask for substitution. They have the right to do so because of CRTC regulations, but the regulator says it does not force cable and satellite companies to swap the signals.

Networks ask for it because it protects their ability to sell ads, which is crucial to their business model: If the U.S. networks’ feeds were left in place, Canadian networks – who pay good money for the rights to broadcast The Big Bang Theory or a big sports match here – could not promise advertisers as large an audience for their programs.

A Rogers spokesperson said the company is “reviewing its processes” to make sure that it gives accurate information to customers about why simultaneous substitution occurs.

“Simsubs allow for the carriage of U.S. signals in Canada which are popular with our customers while at the same time preserving the Canadian rights market and the health of the Canadian broadcasting system,” Rogers spokesperson Patricia Trott said in an e-mailed statement.

Mr. Blais had asked Rogers to explain how its customer service representatives are trained, and what information they have on the rules. His letter also said that “it would be appreciated if you could remind your customer service representatives that broadcasters choose whether to substitute signals and that both the broadcaster and the distributor are responsible for the quality of the substitution.”

I'll reserve my thoughts on this, but I'm wondering what you all think about this? Legalized TV signal bootlegging, maybe?

RoXer
01-25-2014, 04:25 PM
Are you tuning in to watch commercials or the game?

Yes, there are a few commercials that are good to view for "water cooler talk" in the following week, but honestly, what the fuck would anyone complain about? Not being able to see advertising? That's absurd. I only wish I could block out or substitute commercials.

RoXer
01-25-2014, 04:26 PM
And it's been like that for a long time now for ESPN America or any other network not in the us broadcasting the game. You'll see the same 4 SKY commercials and previews for other big American games coming up and then it's back to the action.

Because...

A] We in Canada want to see the pure Super Bowl broadcast.

B] we DON'T want to see Canadian TV channels doing a stupid live-edited 'chop job' of U.S. TV shows.

C] We DON'T want Canada's major cable and satellite providers directly making money off any TV show created outside our borders.

D] We DON'T want to hear or see CTV plugging it's primetime lineup that has no shows made in Canada on it. It's called subsidized corporate welfare by Bell Canada Enterprises to be doing this shit.

E] We DON'T like Canadian advertising firms creating bids to profit off U.S. TV.

And F] We DON'T like hearing Canadian commercial voice-over artists doing a bad job reading off the copy of American commercial voice-over artists original ad work, for ads that are seen in both countries.

For those that may not know, Bell Canada Enterprises, Rogers Communications, Corus Entertainment, Shaw Communications, and a few other companies, stopped investing in making original Canadian TV shows a long time ago, and chose to make all of their operating budgets 'simsubbing' U.S. TV shows.(The only exemption here is the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, or CBC, who don't rely on binging on U.S. TV shows to bloat their ad revenue artifically)

Bell, last year, made $750 Million in ad revenue off American programming, that they, frankly, have no right to bid on airing. I dunno about the rest, but for a country like Canada, that figure makes me think that that amount of money is WAY too much for any Canadian telco business to make off that revenue stream.

If I had a hand in this issue, I'd be...

A] Pulling the operating licenses for Bell, Rogers, Corus, and Shaw for bidding on U.S. media rights, and shutting those companies down, while having their entire corporate executive boards arrested for obstruction of open broadcast and broadband networks, and interference to stop them from existing...

B] Dissolving the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission, and firing it's entire staff, for being made up of former employees of Bell, Rogers, et al...

C] Issuing a government order mandating that all decisions on Canadian telecommunications would come directly from the federal government, and not a body made up of former telco execs...

D] Forming new companies to manage only domestic TV shows, and telling them to offer the entire library of privately-made Canadian TV in a VOD business model, then privatizing them under new management that would not bid on TV rights outside Canadian borders...

E] Allowing U.S and International TV channels to come to Canada with no Canadian advertising restrictions placed on them...

F] Forcing all local Canadian TV channels owned by private companies(CBC exempt) to go to 21-hour news schedules, with them only airing a prime-time entertainment schedule from 8-11PM local time...

G] Forcing TSN and Sportsnet to air sports programming only with Canadian pro sports franchises involved...

H] Ordering that all Canadian cable and satellite bills be dropped by 60% of current prices...

And I] Beginning discussions with the FCC in the U.S. to unify the Canadian and American telco industries together, where both countries benefitted from the partnership on an equal basis.

And if anyone in Canada didn't like any of this? Well, they could kick rocks, because I'd only be interested in making sure that NO Canadian telco directly controlled A] the industry, and B] it's regulatory body, ever again.

There's WAY too much naivete among those who consume TV in Canada, and that has to stop.

But then, your airwaves would be filled with advertisements for mostly US made products from US companies. I thought that's the opposite of what you want.

C] We DON'T want Canada's major cable and satellite providers directly making money off any TV show created outside our borders.

Ravens 1st Super Bowl - Giants first Super Bowl loss - in Tampa
Ravens 2nd Super Bowl - 49ers first Super Bowl loss - in New Orleans

Only other remaining teams with a win and no losses in the Super Bowl...Tampa and New Orleans.

If I had caught this earlier in the season I would have seen it as a sign for a Ravens/Saints (cause face facts, the Bus suck) Super Bowl in New York..but now I can sit back and wait for Super Bowl L..in (or close to) San Francisco.
