What was that brought up last year, like he could only bench like 200 pounds or something?

Yeah, Trips and some others went all hissy fit over Tiki and how he's the best and blah, blah, blah... how he like doubled his bench in the offseason and such.

I stated that if he started fumbling the ball like he used to Coughlin is a discipline coach and would bench him, because he wouldn't stand for the turn overs.

That being said, Tiki had a great year last year. Rushing, Catching and held onto the ball.

Before I tip my cap to him as one of the leagues "Elite" backs, I want to see him do it for a 2nd year.

Tiki is and always has been an amazing athlete. Sad part is it is his 8th or 9th year and his prime is past him. He won't have a fumbling problem this year I guarantee you that. If Eli plays well and we have some sort of passing game then I think Tiki will at least match last years totals. But then again, with the drafting of Brandon Jacobs we may run a two back system. Who knows?

Take into account also that he ran for 1,518 yards behind one of the worst offensive lines in the league. If he had been rushing behind even a decent O-line he would be putting up ridiculous numbers.

Yeah, but when you put it that way -- no O-Line, Eli at QB... you have to wonder... maybe teams let Tiki run?

I mean, if you were beating the Giants by 14 points, would you be putting 8 in the box and risking a long TD? Or would you allow the run, taking time off the clock to speed up the inevitable?

It's a thinker, init?

I mean, how much of a threat were the Barry Sanders Lions, the Chiefs despite their "explosive offense," or the Chargers before last year?

Jerry Rice retired :'(

About time. He wasn't going to do shit with the Broncos, and just doing all that team-hopping kinda degrades his legacy a bit. Thank God he never played a game for them. But yeah, I'm sad to see him go, even with all of that said. I appreciate his 3 years of service to Oakland.

He shouldn't have retired, really. He's a legend, he can still produce, and he's a great asset to have on your team. He can show your younger WRs how it's done.

anyone know if Rice did or plans to sign a one day contract with the 49ers then retire?

The way the 49ers treat players, I'd rather sign somewhere awesome, like Baltimore. Retire as a Raven, that's the way to go. You and Ray Lewis in the HOF together.

Ron Mexico -> Rice :yes:

Sounds good to me. Ronny can move around and give Rice enough time to laboriously make it through his route before throwing a shitty pass that Rice has the skill and body control to come down with.

Match made in heaven.

I found this to be kind of interesting. ESPN.com's poll is "What team do you expect to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl?" And the response has been overwhelmingly Colts. It has that thing where you can look at how people voted in each state, and besides New England and Wyoming every state is Colts. (By New England, I mean every state east of New York is Pats)

I think the only reason that Tiki wasn't the rushing champion last year was because towards the end of the year, when our passing game went downhill we became one dimensional and teams geared their defense towards the run. Tiki was on a roll until then.

Oh right, I forgot that teams had to double team Amani Toomer, and keep a spy on the QB at all times, because Kurt Warner and Eli Manning were such a threat to scramble.

You'd think after 3 superbowls in 4yrs, the Pats wouldn't have the "underdog" mentality to use for motiavation anymore.

Speaking of Motivation, Belicheck went to Pitt and did a pre-game talk to the ND team.

Tiki is and always has been an amazing athlete. Sad part is it is his 8th or 9th year and his prime is past him.

Ok,
1) if it's true that before last season he couldn't bench 1/2 his own weight then you lost the "amazing athlete" right there, especially for a football player.

2) If he was or is such an amazing athlete why did it take him 8 or 9 years to show it?

3) Under your defitition wouldn't almost all NFL players be amazing athletes? or are you going by the true defition in which case most "amazing athletes" aren't necceseraly "good or great" football players?

I think the only reason that Tiki wasn't the rushing champion last year was because towards the end of the year, when our passing game went downhill we became one dimensional and teams geared their defense towards the run. Tiki was on a roll until then.

Ok, that explains last year, which was was his best year ever. I don't care about the "amazing althlete" crap, Tony Simmons was an amazing althlete, Car Lewis is an amazing athlete, Lance Armstrong is an amazing athlete, none are good football players.

Now, if you want to discuss good v. great football players. Let Tiki put up last years numbers, (including holding onto the ball) for another year or two, or put up less numbers (still holding onto the ball) and we'll see stats on other players so it wasn't a case of less stats for him, just less carries because they shared the ball... Then, we can talk "great". Although, if his opportunity goes down a lot, then you'd have to ask if he's so great, why take away the ball from him? Why draft Ron Dayne? why... never mind, check back after the season and we can discuss this, or during the season if he gets benched.

I just heard someone on the radio say that the NFL layed the Colts schedule out for them to get home field and go to the superbowl. What a crock of shit. New England had a similiar schedule last year and no one said this? Here it is. Tell me what you think about this theorie and not just RP hating. What do you honestly think?

Sun 9/11 at Baltimore 8:30 pm
Sun 9/18 Jacksonville 1:00 pm
Sun 9/25 Cleveland 1:00 pm
Sun 10/2 at Tennessee 1:00 pm
Sun 10/9 at San Francisco 4:05 pm
Mon 10/17 St. Louis 9:00 pm
Sun 10/23 at Houston 1:00 pm
bye
Mon 11/7 at New England 9:00 pm
Sun 11/13 Houston 1:00 pm
Sun 11/20 at Cincinnati 1:00 pm
Mon 11/28 Pittsburgh 9:00 pm
Sun 12/4 Tennessee 1:00 pm
Sun 12/11 at Jacksonville 1:00 pm
Sun 12/18 San Diego 1:00 pm
Sat 12/24 at Seattle 4:15 pm
Sun 1/1 Arizona 1:00

The first game of the season is far from a cupcake. Then they have a good Jacksonville team. Then its cake from there until St. Louis ( Who i think could contend for a SB this year ). New England sandwiched with a couple of Houston games , then we go to the Natti. The host Pitt on MNF. That stretch will be very tuff. Texans are improved, Bengals are on the brink of a playoff berth, New England and Pitt speak for them selves.Couple division games and then we end with San Diego, Seattle, and Arizona. All could be playing for a playoff spot. Anyways just throwing that out there to spark some conversation.

Picked up Rockey Calmus. He could challenge for the starting MLB spot this mid season. I think Brackett may be real good this year. Love the depth though.

lol VEL you're off your hinges. From 02-04 he put up over 1000 yards. In 01 he only put up around 800, missing two games that year. In 00 he put up over 1000. Before that he wasn't really the only back the Giants used. In the beginning of his career it was thought he wasn't an every down back so he only came in for 3rd downs and used to return punts and that sort of thing.

The only problem he has ever really had was his fumbling, which was just recently for those two seasons before Coughlin arrived. Before that it wasn't really noticed as a huge issue.

I don't really care about all that shit if he can bench his own weight or half his weight or double his weight or can run a 40 in 4.4 or can stand on his head and eat a banana. He can play football, I'd take him over 90% of the other RB's in the league and thats all that matters to me.

Spoken like a true homer.

First you claim he's always been a great athlete, then you say you don't care about that stuff.

You pull stats that make him "good" not great.

You brush off a problem, "Fumbling" that has the ability to change a game, cost a game, a division a playoff birth, etc.... A problem that has cost many a good RB their job.

I'm not saying he isn't a good RB, I'm saying he's not great. Let's see what he does this year and we can consider the tearm "great". Let him do it 3yrs in a row, then you can really talk "great" but one "great" year, doesn't make a "great" RB.

RP,

I don't think anyone stacked the schedule for anyone. No idea how the Colts schedule this year compares to the Pats last year, don't really care. the better teams are supposed to get the tougher schedule, plus your division. You can't account for players a team lost or having a crappy division. Hence why teams like SF used to have such an easy time going 12-4, because the other teams in that Div sucked.

The only change the NFL did do last year was New England always went to Miami early in the season and played in the heat and Miami alwyas came here in December. Last year they reversed it, and took a look a "home field" advantage, sending hot and dome teams (Minn, Atl, NO, Miami, SD) into the cold late in the year (NE, NY, Buffalo, Pitt, Chicago).

This year, they seem to have done away with that, actually weather wise, the pats have a great nov/dec schedule.

host: Indy, NO, NYJ, TB, Miami.
Visit: Miami, KC, Buffalo, NYJ.

I do remember Dungy syaing something about not wanting to play NE again week #1, because it means losing homefield advantage with the whole seasons till ahead. (not an exact quote, but he said something like that).

But as I said, with the exception of changing the home/away games last year, which had no effect, I don't think the NFL sets up anyone with an "easy" schedule.

RP
09-07-2005, 02:34 PM
Yah i pretty much agree. Besides i think the schedules are made like 4 years ahead of time.

I dont think Dungy said that either thats just New England propaganda.;)

a little trip down memory lane...

Patriots as of now are the best team in the NFL. ( as tough as it is for me to say that )

But i guarantee you The Colts will get a crack at them in the Playoffs . I think we will win.

Its about pride. We know we can beat them.

To be the man you have to beat the man.

Its gunna happen too.

and of course, my favorite!
I was 10.

My point is...

Man this is so hard for me to say.

The New England Patriots are the best team i've seen since i've been a fan of the NFL. Better then Dallas, San Fran, Greenbay, and Denver.

I've never seen a team go from one week holding the best offense in the league and maybe ever to 3 points. Then putting 41 points on the Best defense in the league. When you have that kind of range. Your simply the best in my opinion. Your coach is a certified genious. Your qb is a poster child for winning titles. Your defense is hard nosed never give up never say die always make the big plays defense. You have atleast 8-9 future hall of famers on the team when its all said and done. The Patriots are simply put ... The best i've ever seen.

I don't disagree with you in the fact he is "great". Everyone holds different standards for that anyway so its hard to determine that. I would say that Tiki is in the top 10 in the NFL right now, I don't think most would disagree with that. He had a fumbling problem for a year, year and half but other than that Tiki has never had any problems. He is a staple of the Giants franchise right now. He is a player. Don't get me wrong, there are definitely other backs I would take given the chance but I like Tiki.

7) Cheeba has dished her own to me tons of times. She can take it. She's a big girl. Its nothing personal to me. Just shit talk. I leave this board and leave the house. I dont think about anything having to do with this board. Therefore nothing personal.

I hate Michael Irvin. He's so annoying. You can tell Steve Young wants to punch Irvin in the mouth. He always interupts Young and T.J when its there time to speak.

RP - in a note on your schedule thing.

The toughest schedule in the league this year is the Dolphins.
Second is the Pats.

People were bitching, cause the Pats are supposed to have the toughest, then some realised, the only difference is the Pats play the Phins twice and the Phins play the Pats twice, hence the difference in difficulty.
