I like Michael The Burner Turner too but alot of times trying to use a 2nd string guy as a starter bites teams in the ass.. Look at Lamont Jordan and the Raiders.. He had what looked like pro-bowlesque numbers as a backup but hasn't done shit as a starter.. That being said, I do think Turner will be a great compliment to Jerious Norwood who I think has sky high potential..

DUNNO

I know some people in SD and they swear Turner can be everything LT is maybe more... seems like a stretch to me... but we'll see.

20 bucks says Norwood has the better year

depends on who the coach gives the ball to.

I think Norwood should have had a good year last year but they didn't give him the ball.

I can't see Turner playing 2nd fiddle with what they paid him.

Norwood is a speedster, they could have a pretty effective 1-2 punch there. I've always thought the best way for a struggling franchise to get back on its feet is get a solid running game, QB who won't make mistakes and build your defense. Simple blueprint.

Cept the whole "building up our D" part..

Broncos having a pretty quiet off season so far. Lot of talks of trades that never happen. Signing a lot fewer. Thus far only:

Boss Bailey (OLB)
Niko Koutouvides (MLB)
Keary Colbert (WR)
Edell Sheppard (WR/KR)
Marlon McCree (S)
Marquand Manuel (S)

Signing of Niko and Boss will move D.J. Williams back to weak side, with Niko play middle and Boss strong. We really need to trade for a decent 2nd WR, our draft needs to be focused on rebuilding other positions. There was talk of Denver trying to trade for Roy Williams, which I'd love, but highly doubt it'd happen

I hope the Saints pass on him, the bills pick 11 and he is Mine.

We are the only team in the top ten who should really want him.. I mean, the Pats prolly want a CB but he'll never work in their zone coverage.. I'm pretty sure we'll get him first round this year..

Luckily the Bills pick right after the saints, and no one above them needs him, so the Bills/Saints will have their choice between the top 2 CBs.

Mike Jenkins is dead even on alot of boards. Either way, both guys deserve to be a 10/11 Pick, so it wont really be settling.

What have the Saits been saying? Are they definitely going CB in round 1? There is some decent round 2 CB talent, like Talib from Kansas. Any chance the saints go with someone like Keith Rivers or Vernon Gholston if he drops?

Hanso Amore

Alot of people have the Bills taking Malcolm Kelly.

I dont think he is worth the 11th pick, I dont even think he is the best WR prospect.

I am praying the Bills land either DCR or Jenkins, maybe even the CB from Troy in round one, then a big WR target like Adarius Bowman or Hardy from Indiana round 2. That guy is huge.

But of all the picks I am hoping for, I really hope we can Land Owen Schmidt in the 3rd or 4th. Alot of Mocks have us landign him, and boy, do we need him. marshawn Lynch has a great rookie year even though he was injured, and he had no FB. Schmidt is the next Lorenzo Neal. That guy can open holes.

I'm just assuming because we've added "starters" at every other level of the D, but Gay will have to fight for a starting job..

I'm guessing we'll go CB but I thought that last year and we got Robert Meachem so who knows..

Yeah we were in talks with him and at first I was kinda "meh" but then thinking about it, he's prolly a much more reliable backup than Jamie "Mr Beach Warmer" Martin..

We still got Tyler Palko in the wings and he'll be great, one day..

lol why would the Bucs give Warrick Dunn 3 million a year for two years? Dudes 33 years old and been declining for a while. The draft is loaded with running backs this year, really don't see the point in signing a 33 year old guy. They already have Graham and Williams anyway (I'm not sure of his injury status though?)

I can see the logic, I guess. You might be able to get a 1st, definitely a 2nd (and if the latter additional picks) and draft McFadden. Only risk is if some freak injury happens to McFadden.

From SI:

Teams that consistently win in this league are brutal in their self-assessment of their own weaknesses. The Saints obviously didn't get it done on defense in 2007, and that's why they went out and made an early move at each line of defense, adding middle linebacker Jonathan Vilma, cornerback Randall Gay and defensive end Bobby McCray.

McCray's signing could be pivotal. The former 2004 final-round selection had 10 sacks as recently as 2006, and his addition allows the Saints to shift Charles Grant inside to tackle, from where he can apply some much-needed up-the-gut pressure. With Will Smith at the other end, the Saints will put a pretty athletic front four on the field, reminiscent of the three-defensive-end approach that produced such great results for the Super Bowl-winning Giants last season.

I'm also impressed by New Orleans' foresight in re-signing so many of its own key role players, such as Devery Henderson, David Patten, Aaron Stecker, Jamar Nesbit, Billy Miller, Brian Young and Mark Simoneau. Linebacker Dan Morgan adds depth at weakside linebacker, and the team on Thursday upgraded its backup quarterback slot by signing veteran Mark Brunell as Drew Brees' understudy. Only the loss of center Jeff Faine in free agency registers as a potential setback this offseason, even though New Orleans feels Jonathan Goodwin represents little drop-off at the position.

What they still need: Another cornerback to further strengthen the pass defense, or a run-stuffing defensive tackle who wins more than he loses at the point of attack. The Saints, at No. 10 in the draft, are probably going to finish just out of the money in terms of top defensive tackles Glenn Dorsey and Sedrick Ellis, so a top-ranked cornerback (Leodis McKelvin, Aqib Talib or Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie) in the first round makes more sense.

How much better?: From 7-9 to 11-5.

MTH, I'd love to get Jake Long, but the odds of him getting past the Rams I think are slim. I'm not a fan of Ryan's because I think he is over hyped, but if he is there we may take him. But I remember on FoxSports Mike Smith had an interview and it seemed like he wanted Dorsey. Its a tough call, if Jake doesn't fall to us, I'm not sure where we go.

As for Norwood, I love the guy and would want to see him be the starter, but with the money Turner is getting he is def getting the majority of the carries. I think the carries will be split fine. Having those 2 as our backfield excites me. Now lets just get a capable QB and build up that OLINE.

I realize we need alot of help at CB but, adding guys on the line and at LB that can get to the QB will help our DBs in coverage..

Signing Vilma was huge IMO.. Morgan is a beast if he can stay healthy but his presence does add depth either way.. Adding a young STUD like Rivers would be super sick IMO.. He looks like P.Willie and we all know how that turned out for the Niners.. If we do get him, this is the closest thing I've seen to the Dome Patrol since like '92..

Getting McCrary on the line was another stout pickup.. His pass rushing abilities will allow Charles Grant to move inside to DT on 3rd downs or any passing down and allow us to get alot more pressure on the QB.. Yeah, I realize the Giants did this last year, but it's a copycat league and look at where they ended up..

I am big on Rodgers Cromartie.. I think his natural athleticism would be great for our DBs.. He is super fast, like 6'2", and is a ball hawk.. I think adding a guy like him would be great..

So, as I said, I want to just go after the best defensive player available at our 10th spot would help on any level.. Adding to our line or LBs will help our DBs in coverage..

(I realize there are other good defensive players out there, but these three are the ones that catch my eye the most)

This was written in 1967:

God, we ask your blessing upon all who participate in this event, and all who have supported our Saints.

Our heavenly Father, who has instructed us that the "Saints by faith conquered kingdoms and overcame lions", grant our Saints an increase of faith and strength so that they will not only overcome the Lions, but also the Bears, the Rams, the Giants, and even those awesome people in Green Bay.

May they continue to tame the Redskins and fetter the Falcons as well as the Eagles.

Give to our owners and coaches the continued ability to be as wise as serpents and simple as doves, so that no good talent will dodge our draft.

Grant to our fans perseverance in their devotion and unlimited lung power, tempered with a sense of charity to all, including the referees.

May our beloved "Bedlam Bowl" be a source of good fellowship and may the "Saints Come Marching In" be a victory march for all, now and in eternity.

Kansas City coach Herm Edwards implied that the Buccaneers and Rams may have tampered with C Jeff Faine and K Josh Brown respectively.

Both were desired targets of Kansas City, and Edwards could be placating an angry fan base. "We didn’t cheat. We abided by the rules. That’s how you’re supposed to do it, and that’s what we did," Edwards said. The 49ers had to give up a fifth-round pick and swap third round picks with the Bears after being found guilty of tampering on Monday.

Oh, never got to mention how horrible the NFL Netork is. They have the worst staff.

During the Preview for the Bills, Marshall Faulk started talking about how buffalo was a good young team, but their line (most Improved unit IMO last year) needed some work, especially at left Tackle.

Mind you, our Left tackle, Jason Peters is considered the best Young Tackle in the NFL and was a Pro Bowler last year. They then talked about how the Bills needed to beef up their DTs, 5 days after trading for marcus Stroud and Signing another.

Does he pay attention?

Hanso Amore

Peters was a TE in college, and he is huge, and he caught passes from Matt Jones at QB (now a WR) who was also huge. Man, if Arkansas has guys like them at Skill positions, I would have loved to see their offensive line!!!!!!!!!!!

All I could find on it was this post by some idiot at some shitty board:

I heard something on the radio this morning that the NFL is talking about instituting a new hair policy. The hair can't cover the name on the back of the jersey if the new rule is passed. Of course, this is going to be declared "racist" because several niggers keep a huge 'fro hanging out of their helmet. There's also a safety issue if someone decides to grab it (sort of like a horseshoe tackle, which is illegal.)

Thu, 27 Mar 2008 08:56:15 -0700

You sure about that?

He was 10 of 17 last year. His misses were as follows:

52
38
Blocked
54
43
52
57

He also had 52 kickoffs with only 15 touchbacks. He's barely hit 90% FG accuracy twice in his career, so he's never been that accurate. His leg is just gone, basically.

NFL owners concluded their annual meeting owners with quick passages of several proposals and by tabling the re-seeding idea for the playoffs.

Without the necessary 24 votes to pass a re-seeding plan to give wild-card teams the chance to host playoff games, the Competition Committee tabled the concept to a later meeting, most likely May.

Among the proposals that were passed:

• A recommendation to eliminate force-out decisions on pass completions near the sidelines was approved. Now, officials will only have to decide whether a receiver landed in bounds or not. The intended result is more consistency.

• The "Phil Dawson field goal rule" change passed. Now, certain field goals can be reviewed by instant replay, including kicks that bounce off the uprights. Under the previous system, no field goals could be replayed.

• Coaches can now defer a decision on the opening coin toss. This is similar to the college rule. Previously, the winner of the coin toss could only choose to receive or kick off.

• A direct snap from center that goes backward will now be treated as a fumble. Previously, it was ruled a false start.

• The 5-yard face mask penalty was eliminated. Now, only the serious face mask will be called (and will be assessed as a 15-yard penalty). The major foul will involve twisting or grabbing the face mask.

On Tuesday, the league tabled a Kansas City Chiefs' proposal to prohibit hair hanging over the back of jerseys to the nameplate.

It passed a rule to allow defensive players to wear radio helmets on Tuesday.

Deuce told me that Fred Thomas lost his confidence after week three in 2006..

I actually missed him cause Jason David is much worse..

:wavesad:

Jason David seems worse because the Saints front office makes Dan Snyder look like Bill Polian. I dont know who's making the free agent decisions there, but taking a cover 2 corner back and expecting him to play something else other then cover 2 say, man to man, is retarded. David is a good cover 2 corner. If he went to Tampa Bay, he'd be a good cornerback. New Orleans just have shit for brains who are paying players enormous amounts of money to come in and play systems they dont fit into. Its called scouting. New Orleans might wanna hire some. And no, they dont get a pass because they drafted Colston. Every dog has its day. Enjoy that one. And pray for a better GM.

Love this rule change. To many accidental face masks get pentalized. Its gunna happen. Running back running low to the ground, it just happens sometimes.

• A recommendation to eliminate force-out decisions on pass completions near the sidelines was approved. Now, officials will only have to decide whether a receiver landed in bounds or not. The intended result is more consistency.

I'm curious about this rule. Does this mean that if there's a sideline pass and its high, the defender can simply defend it by letting the player go up and catch it and then forcing them out and it would be ruled incomplete? I understand what they're trying to do here though.

Kris P Lettus
04-02-2008, 01:50 PM
Other than David and picking Meach in the first round last year Mickey loomis has been outstanding the past couple of years.. He got Jarhi Evens and Colston late and those are both great additions.. He got Brees when everyone was saying that Culpepper was the better pickup and the Dolphin passed on him.. This year we've gotten a good nickleback (who might can be an every down CB), Johnathon Vilma, whose potential is skyhigh in our 4-3, and McCrary who is a good pass rusher, and will be able to move Grant down to DT to get alot more pressure on the QB..

Other than Jason David and Meach (who I believe will be a solid number 2 WR this year) what has Loomis done so bad??

Explain this to me??

New Orleans
April 2, 2008

Two seasons ago, Drew Brees was shown the door by the Chargers after he suffered a torn labrum in his right shoulder during the 2005 season finale. Brees, thought by some to be damaged goods, joined the Saints the next season and set career highs for completions and passing yards while leading the team to the NFC championship game. One source in New Orleans said he sees in MLB Jonathan Vilma a mirror to Brees’ story. Vilma was sent packing by the Jets in a trade with the Saints after he missed the final nine games of last season with a right knee injury. A Pro Bowler in 2005, Vilma was moved from his natural position in the middle when coach Eric Mangini implemented a 3-4 defense in New York before the 2006 season. Vilma struggled in the new system but will return to a 4-3 defense in New Orleans and has shown in past seasons he has the ability to carry a defense, which is exactly the kind of linebacker the Saints have lacked the past two seasons.

Jesus Shuttlesworth
04-02-2008, 01:56 PM
Well the force out was a pretty tough judgment call, the ref had to determine whether or not the receiver would have gotten both feet inbounds if there was no contact from the defender(s) I bet a lot of times a force out would be called when the receiver really was not going to get both feet down, since it is pretty hard to judge on a lot of them (I mean how many times do guys have the toe of their cleat barely in or out of bounds? Pretty tough to judge that)

Kris P Lettus

Am i wrong though?

Bill Polian Facts

Those 4 Superbowl teams Buffalo had may have not won the Superbowl, but getting there 4 times makes them one of the all time great teams. Bill Polian built that team.

In 2 years he built an expansion team that made it to an NFC title game.

He drafted Manning over Leaf

Drafted Edge over Sticky Ricky

He chose not to sign Edge to a monster deal and instead drafted Joseph Addai ( this worked out pretty well you know ).

IN 2001 he drafted Reggie "frigging" Wayne with the 30th pick

In 03 he drafted Dallas Clark in the 1st round, Robert Mathis in the 5th round and Cato June in the 6th round

In 04 he traded out of the first round ( to Atlanta ) and moved back into the second round to select Bob Sanders with the 44th pick.

Do i think Bill Polian shits gold? Yes i do think Bill Polian wakes up in the morning and shits gold.

So yes, if a ball is high a WR jumps and catches it 2yds in bounds but the DB hits him and knocks him out of bounds before his 2nd foot hits (in bounds) it's an incomplete.

I like the rule, I think next year you'll see a lot of Pass Interferance calls from DB's trying that.

Then I wouldn't be shocked if down the road they go to a 1 foot rule.

I think the biggest effect you will see is back of the endzone.

Saints signed CB Aaron Glenn from the Cowboys..

A few things:

I understand wanting to get depth and creating competition for camp and whatnot, but this dude is gonna be 15 years in the league..

I heard he is the same guy from the Jets who Turley mauled and threw his helmet when he was pulling back on Arron Brooks' helmet.. Maybe Trips or NerF could confim this..

I hope it doesn't effect of draft picks..

I see why we got him cause he's still been productive and I'm guessing Payton likes him from his days at Dallas..

I still want ELLIS/RIVERS/DORSEY in the first round..

Jesus Shuttlesworth
04-08-2008, 11:01 PM
I'd guess they would be taking that corner from Kansas, Aqib Talib or maybe Rivers I guess. I think Rivers is gonna be real good in the NFL but from what I saw the Saints have more of a need at corner.

I don't think Ellis or Dorsey will be around at #10, if they are that'd be a nice pick up as well.

Kris P Lettus
04-08-2008, 11:11 PM
Alot of people are saying we're gonna get Rivers.. "Experts" are saying that even with Talib, McKelvin, Rodger-Cromartie, etc the 10th overall pick is too high to get a CB.. And there's alot of depth at CB this year.. A guy like Ellis (who people are saying we might trade up for), Dorsey, or Rivers would be the biggest impact player we could get at that pick.. Then use a later pick (or picks) on a CB(s)..

Upping our front 7 will only make our d-backs better due to pressuring the QB.. having a Rivers/Ellis/Dorsey to pass rush the middle will take pressure off of Will Smith/Charles Grant/McCrary..

Vilmas gonna be huge too, IMO..

(Morgan to a lesser extent)

Jesus Shuttlesworth

Yeah Rivers is gonna be nice in the NFL, hopefully the Saints trade up with the Patriots at 7 for Ellis though...I wouldn't mind that one bit

Kris P Lettus
04-08-2008, 11:22 PM
Me neither..

At this point, i just want the best defensive player available at that spot.. Anyone who's gonna make a def impact next year..

Speaking of, supposedly the Giants wanted our second round pick and Roman Harper for Shockey.. I'm glad we turned them down cause Saint Roman is a beast and we got he in the second round two years ago after Bush.. He got hurt in like week 3 2006 so this will really be like his second year.. He was a monster at Bama..

Anyway, the talks now are we might give them the second round pick and trade a pick later in the draft for Shockey..

He could be great for us if he does it like Randy Moss did in NE and comes in humble and wanting to win..

Yeah, but there's also been hella speculation as to why he retired in the first place.. Most are saying it's cause the Pack wouldn't get him a superstar WR.. Favre would have been smart just to say "No I wouldn't come back if Rodgers got hurt" Instead he left it open for a lot of over blown speculation. If he does come back, I don't think he would go anywhere other than the Packers (Could he even go elsewhere? I thought he was still under contract)

Speculation is mostly people who have no idea taking a wild guess.

The fact is he didn't say he was coming back, just answered a question if Rodgers got hurt and the Pack called him.

and Stima - I don't think he can go anywhere either, I thought he was still under contract.

If Rodgers goes down or a top team has a QB go down, maybe, maybe, I see him considering it... but I doubt it.

I mean, Manning blows an ACL, do they turn to Sorgi or place a call to Favre?

I'm pretty sure you can't come back until after 1 calendar year after signing your retirement papers. I remember something with Ricky Williams "retiring" and returning but he couldn't return initially due to it being within a year of his departure.

If Manning blows an ACL and the Colts are headed to the playoffs. Do they call Favre? Yes. No frigging doubt in my mind. Same with the Pats. If Favre wants to help a team try to win a title and take small pay, it would happend imo.

I think once you retire, you're contract is void or something, but the old team can take the player to court to get money back. I dunno, i might be wrong, but it think thats how it works.

I'm pretty sure the team you retired from retains your "rights" for the remainder of the deal, otherwise anyone who wanted off a team and to be a free agent would retire and then come back a month later.

I think what you're thinking of on the taking to court is the signing bonus.

say Farve had a 5yr deal with a 20mil bonus and retired after year 2, they could sue him for 12mil bassed on him not playing the final 3yrs (I think the Lions did that or tried that with Barry Sanders).

So yeah, Manning or Brady goes down right before the playoffs they could probably sign him, but would have to send something to Greenbay.

From John Owens: From www.nfl.com - Pro Football Talk reports a blog entry from WWE announcer Jim Ross suggests the New Orleans Saints will trade for Jeremy Shockey. Ross, who saw Reggie Bush with Snoop Dogg at Wrestlemania 24, writes "sources tell me that the New York Giants are going to trade outstanding TE Jeremy Shockey to Bush's Saints, prior to the NFL draft." Much of the WWE is more fantasy than reality, so no one should consider this a concrete report. Still, a Shockey trade to the Saints would have immense fantasy implications.

McAllister still a Saint
Posted by Mike Triplett, The Times-Picayune April 14, 2008 5:47PM

Deuce McAllister will remain a Saint through training camp, at least, according to a spokesperson for the tailback.

McAllister, who was due a $1 million roster bonus by April 15, worked out an agreement with the team. Details were not available, but McAllister conveyed through the spokesperson that he is "a New Orleans Saint for sure this season" and he was relieved that things had been resolved.

McAllister, who is traveling out of the country, was not available for comment. Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis declined comment.

Pat Kirwan sees the Jeremy Shockey trade for a 2nd round pick and Roman Harper as a serious possibility. The Giants aren't sold that Sammy Knight can fill in fully for Gabril Wilson(FA-Raiders) and are listening to offers. "I was begging the Saints to draft a Tight End last year but they opted to go with a receiver instead. Look at what Brees did with Gates in San Diego. Not to mention, look at the teams that can run the ball well, like San Diego and Kansas City. They all have good tight ends that can threaten the middle of the field so the linebackers are back on their heels rather than firing that running gap. It will be an interesting 2 weeks to see what the Saints do with the Shockey possibility."
