Not really pissed, just think it's ridiculous to argue semantics about an awesome catch.. It was an awesome catch regaurless of where it was or who it was..
Looks weird seeing Shockey in a Saints uniform and with a different number.
Yeah, switched to his college number apparently.
Yeah, Mark Campbell, another TE who prolly won't even make the squad now, is number 80.. Plus I think Shockey wants a fresh start..
Anyway, second practice wasn't as good.. Half pads (shoulder pads and helmets only).. Alot more technical drills.. Saw alot of the DBs, but I picked the wrong side cause most of the action was on the other practice field.. Shockey was out there but didn't wear shoulder pads and didn't do anything full speed.. Same with Brian Young..
Going back in the morning..

I'll probably try to make it down to the G-Men camp this year. I usually go a couple times a year as its only a half hour away. Place is going to probably be a zoo this year tough since they're the Superbowl champions and everything.

Also I'll be able to see the Jets somehow, just would rather not do it in some crowded restaraunt
MLB.tv please nerf. also www.thegamelive.com used to have live feeds of all baseball and football games. i havent been there in a while though.

welcome to my world Nerf. You said you're going to Clemson right? That's near me...kind of. No Jets, no Yankees :(
What AFC team do you guys get on TV all the time? I can't think of what would be the closest AFC team or is that not how it works everywhere? Because around here they play the Patriots (obviously) and the New York Giants on FOX like every fucking week since they are the closest NFC team.

another reason they show the Giants as much as possible is before you and I were born and there were no patriots this whole area were Giants fans.
hence why years back when the Giants weren't that good we'd still get Giants games instead of the national game.

Colts, Packers, Patriots, Bears, Vikings. Those are the teams i see the most in Indianapolis. Obviously i see every Colts game on TV.

wasn't there an issue, maybe Arizona a few years ago they hadn't sold out a MNF game so the league was going to black them out locally, since the NFL has the no-sellout, no-local TV policy...

The Giants are the regional team that would be broadcast on the FOX affiliate. It only makes sense to put them on FOX every week over every other team. It would kind of be retarded not to broadcast the local team in exchange for somebody else.
Jesus Shuttlesworth

Honestly though could you think of any other way to do it? How retarded would it be if a region couldn't watch their own team when that region is likely to contain the largest portion of that team's fan base?
The only other way I can see it being done is by putting the biggest game on TV. Imagine if the Pats sucked and never got on TV, and them being your favorite team, you never got to watch them and you live in Mass. That would be retarded.
Like VEL said, the whole Northeast was G-Men country before the Pats came around. So at least in this area it all makes sense.

Like VEL said, the whole Northeast was G-Men country before the Pats came around. So at least in this area it all makes sense. That's my point, I don't understand why there is "regional broadcasts" Just because I live in the Northeast region is doesn't mean I wanna see the Giants play every week. I don't understand the thing about if the Patriots sucked because that isn't my point at all, I'm not saying they shouldn't show the hometown team in the local market so I dunno. As for there being old timers in the northeast who are Giants fans (probably at least 70+ years old now) I'll give you that one but I really don't see that justifying seeing the same NFC team every week when there is a lot of other good teams I barely ever get to see unless they play on a national broadcasted game

07-26-2008, 08:29 AM
lol I don't understand how you can not see how this is the most logical concept for NFL games. You of all people.
What I'm saying about the Pats is this: If for example they were a bad team, and the NFL chose to broadcast the top tier teams instead of the regional teams then you would never see your own favorite team, the Patriots, in their own local area. Broadcasting like that is idiotic. It only makes sense to show the team(s) that are in the area. Like I said before, more than likely the largest portion of a team's fan base is going to be around the area they are from. Not broadcasting their games in those areas is retarded. People would go crazy and the NFL would nose dive if people couldn't watch their favorite team(s) from their own area.

07-26-2008, 10:58 AM
I hate broadcasting rules simply because they've decided that people in Ohio would much rather watch a Ravens game than a Colts game. I understand they think Browns and Bengals fans want to watch their division rival play but that is fucking stupid. Indianapolis is an hour and a half away from Cincinnati. Baltimore is eight hours away. Indy has one of the most interesting teams to watch. Baltimore is boring as shit. I had two roommates from Indianapolis last year who could not watch a handful of Colts games even when the Bengals and Browns weren't playing because CBS went to the Ravens game. Fuck that.

Saints' McAllister getting MRI; left knee swelled
July 26, 2008
Associated Press
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) -- Saints running back Deuce McAllister has missed a practice, and coach Sean Payton says he is scheduled to have an MRI on his left knee.
McAllister had surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in that knee last season.
Payton said it swelled up after Friday's practice and trainers had to drain fluid from it. McAllister sat out Saturday morning's practice.
Payton said doctors don't know if anything is wrong with the ligament but because of last year's surgery they want to be sure.

The Giants aren't the entire Northeast's team though and thats all I was trying to say. I would just like to see variety in the match ups rather than just the teams that play in the NFC East. yeah, espn is now running Farve says he called Ted and asked if he really couldn't show up at camp and Ted told Farve if he did show up he'd get Ted fired.
at this point I believe 1/2 of what both sides are saying so who knows, but Farve also says Ted told him to give him a few days to work it out. Farve has talked to the Jets and Bucs but he's telling Mortenson what he wants permission to talk to other teams.

Sun-Herald:
On Saturday afternoon, in Canton, Ohio, Washington Redskins teammates Darrell Green and Art Monk will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Monk, a sturdy wide receiver, had to wait a long time because he was more of a lunchpail player than a deep threat who could change a game in an instant.
They'll be joined in the Class of 2008 by Gary Zimmerman, a fine offensive tackle with the Minnesota Vikings and Denver Broncos; Emmitt Thomas, a defensive back whose days with the Kansas City Chiefs date to their AFL days; and two extraordinary pass rushers, Fred Dean and Andre Tippett.
And somewhere, Rickey Jackson sits, an afterthought to the entire process. The greatest defender in New Orleans Saints history has been on the Hall of Fame ballot for the last eight years and has never been named a finalist.
It's more than an oversight. It's an outrage.
Tippett spent 12 seasons with the New England Patriots and finished his NFL career with 100 sacks. He played in Super Bowl XX, when the Patriots served as a punching bag for Mike Ditka's Chicago Bears in the Louisiana Superdome. He was an active defensive end, and a capable tackler in the open field.
Jackson was better.
Dean spent 11 seasons with the San Diego Chargers and San Francisco 49ers, compiling 93 sacks in his career. Toward the end of his career, he was little more than a situational pass rusher, but he had a knack for pressuring the quarterback, even though by NFL standards, he was a small defensive end.
Jackson was better.
OK, you can argue that Jackson played a different position, and that's true. Jackson was an outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense, which came into vogue in the '80s and is still used by a handful of NFL teams today. All three linemen operate out of a stance in the 3-4, which leaves the outside linebacker with myriad responsibilities. Particularly on the strong side, where Jackson played.
Jackson had to rush the passer, play the run and drop into coverage. He was exceptional against the run, and an iron man who seldom missed a start. The Saints became a respectable team in the mid-80s largely because of their defense, which featured a quartet of linebackers - Jackson, Pat Swilling, Vaughan Johnson and the late Sam Mills - that made plays all over the field. Mills was the brains of the "Dome Patrol" but Jackson was its backbone.
Jackson played 15 years in the NFL and won a Super Bowl ring with the 49ers in the 1994 season. He finished with 136 sacks, considerably more than Dean or Tippett's totals, and had eight interceptions. Perhaps most amazing, however, was his 29 career fumble recoveries. Dude obviously had a nose for the ball. He played in six Pro Bowls.
It's disconcerting to see Southern Miss legend Ray Guy emerge as a Pro Football Hall of Fame finalist year after year, only to be denied in the final voting because he was a punter.
Rickey Jackson, however, isn't even making it to that stage.
Which is a shame, pure and simple.
Damn right Rickey Jackson should be in there..

Once the NFL reinstates Favre, the Packers must decide whether to release him, trade him or allow him to rejoin the team as a member of the active roster. "It's pretty clear, and this is what I told the commissioner, that they want me to go away, stay retired," Favre said.

no argument Rickey Jackson was a great player, Better the Tippett, sorry... but we're not gonna agree on this one, of course you saw mor Jackson then I did and I saw more Tippett.
If I recall a lot of those Pats teams played a 3-4 also.
tippet changed the game as a pass rusher, the only guy in that time better then him was LT, and Tippet also stopped the run and dropped into coverage...
a real travisty... Gino Cappelletti should be in the hall of fame.
led the AFL in scoring 5 times
led or tied the NFL in scoring 5 times
two of the top 5 scoring seasons in NFL history
AFL top 10 in yards and receptions
All-time leading scorer in the AFL
the list of stats and records that have never been broken goes on...
He played - WR, PK, KR, PR and DB (I'm not sure if he punted also or just kicked FG)
and I know the whole "his main position was kicker" and the whole "AFL was a shitty league" but this guy dominated.
as far as I'm concerned until he gets in the HOF no one else has any right to complain about anyone.

Went to Patriots practice today, pretty good time. Moss was dominating on there, can't really blame the DBs though nobody can cover him. Bruschi also looked slow as hell covering backs and tight ends, the rookie LB Mayo looked pretty slow too - although he was matched against up with Ben Watson a lot, gotta be one of the faster TEs in the NFL. The other rookie LB they got Crable stood out too, coming off the edge in a 4 point stance as a speed rusher, which was a good sign. Still though its just practice so we'll see what happens.
I took some pics I'll post them later, I also got a video of a pretty sweet play where the ball was tipped around and intercepted - I'll try to get that on here.
Also yes they where serving beer, only Coors Light and Sam Adams tho

Was just reading about Pat White and came across something. Joshua Cribbs is in 3rd place on the all time college career rushing list for a quarterback, I had no idea he played QB in college - and on top of that was that good of a runner. Brad Smith is 1st and Antwaan Randle El is 2nd (both of whom always get recognition for it)

At this point with all the back and forth stuff thats been going on I just can't see him going to another team.
1. I don't think the Packers are trading him within the division.
2. I don't think Favre wants to go to anyone who isn't a legitimate contender.
3. Any team that is a legitimate contender probably is set at QB.
Based upon these 3 factors, the only thing left is whether or not the Packers are truly committed to Aaron Rogers. If they really are, I think Favre ends up retiring at the end of all this. Otherwise I think Favre will be in a Packer uniform by the preseason. Whatever route that the Packers decide to go, they better decide quick. If this goes on longer it has potential to be such a huge distraction (as if it already isn't) and disrupt their season.

that can't be, because they already recognized his retirment and he's applied for reinstatement and it hasn't been 1 calendar year... and Goodell already said he's going to aprove it...
I think the only time they wouldn't is if going back to the same team and it's clear it was done to dance around the salary cap.

ESPN thinks thinks this might be a ploy by Farve to get a better deal in a "non-playing roll for life" which he is negotiating with the Packers.
Tim Wakefield of the Red Sox actually has a "life time contract", I forget exactly how it works but when he decides to retire he gets a job with the team, wether it be a coach or working with fans dunno..
I wonder if Farve is actually going to be doing anything for the team if he gets a non-football deal or they just want him to stay away...
I'll laugh if they ask him to make apperance with fans and such and he refuses..

Favre is straight up douchebag about this. I hope Aaron Rodgers beats him out for the starting quarterback job. Whether it be fair or unfair
I think both sides could have handled it better. I think Favre honestly didnt know if he wanted to retire or not and he needed alot of time. But lets be honest, we'd think he was a douchebag if he took until this time to decide he wanted to retire or play. Everyone would be saying that he's not being fair and yadda yadda. So he told them early he would retire. Probably not knowing for sure if he wanted to or not. Pretty much a double edge sword. I love Favre tbh. I want to see him play this year again. I dont care if he throws picks at the worst time ever. The guy is balls. He plays with his heart and it shows. He's a dying breed in my opinion. He goes out and slings it and if it works it works, if it dont work, he comes back the next week and slings it again. I love it. I want to see the guy start. But its just like damned if you do damned if you dont. Rodgers time is now. But Favre still has it in him. Tough situation. The Packers handled it poorly too.

Sammy, the Packers have been handling this totally worse than Favre..
Favre wanted to retire and did.. Right before training camp he got "the bug" and wanted to play again.. At that time the Packers could've reinstated him, traded him, or released him.. Had they done any of the above, this wouldn't be an issue now.. They wanted him to not play for them and were trying to force him to not play for anyone, which is a pretty shitty way to treat the only superstar they've had in 30 years IMO.. It does suck that he's tanishing his legacy like this, but it's his to tarnish.. The Packer organization could've ended this weeks ago, but have choosen to drag it out because they're being completely selfish about this..
The fact is, they have a much better chance of winning this year with Favre as opposed to without him.. If they want to proceed without him, they should do the right thing and trade him, to atleast get some value for "losing" him.. And this would help Rodgers in the future, them getting like a first rounder next year..
The main thing they shouldn't do is keep him hostage, which is what they've been doing for weeks now..

He is OK.. They def need to use him more as a utility back and run Deuce, Steck, and PT Cruiser as the primary backs.. This has been going on for years. Dating back probably like 3-4 seasons there was always the notion that Favre may or may not retire. Some of it was embellished by media reporting, but there were several instances of Favre contemplating retirement. This most recent episode seemed to be indefinite, given the fact that he held a press conference etc. What the hell can you expect the Packers to do? They can't bank on Favre playing games like this every year whether he means to or not.
Don't get me wrong, I love Favre as a player. I think this whole situation speaks to how much clout players really do have over organizations at times. I don't blame the Packers for using the leverage they can to make this work out in their favor. Its business, plain and simple.

The Pack hasn't handeld this great but Farve has done much worse.
As Gonzo pointed out Farve had dragged his feet and left the team wondering before, like last year when he wouldn't say if he was going to play or not.
The Pack needs to do what is best for the Pack.
It's their judgement playing his is not, they need to get Rodgers time, they spent a good pick on him and soon they either need to play him or trade him and where no one has really seen him play Rodgers isn't worth much,
Trade him sure, both the Jets and the Bucs were interested, but Farve didn't want to go to either team and wanted to be able to seek out his own team, the Pack rightly so said "No".
Cut him, fuck no... why should the Pack get nothing for him?
I think they will trade him, the problem is
1) Farve wants to pick his team
2) Teams aren't offering much because of his age, and they see the Pack as being in a corner.
So, the Commish reinstated Farve, he fly's there, he's supposed to be on field today but isn't going to practice.
Apperently he was told by McCarthy that if he wanted to re-join and practice with the team he needed to be on board with the teams decision to go with Rodgers.
Farve has now refused to practice and told the commishner it's best if him in the Pack part ways.
Well guess what shit-head, you signed a contact with a team and a state that has treated you like a GOD, now you wanna fuck them hard... screw you, you wanna play so bad, go to the Jets or Bucs, you wanna go to Minnesota, fine, get them to pay a fair price for you,

While he doesn't have a no trade clause
1) You can't trade a retired player
2) now that he's active if they trade him to a team he doesn't want to go to all he has to do is refuse to report and he (and his cap #) revert back the the packers.

Watch Favre completely tank next year, he had good year last year but the few before that where pretty bad if I remember correctly so you never know. Really wish he would just go to the Vikings though and play in Green Bay on opening night, that is the only whole Brett Favre/Green Bay Packers dramafest would be worth it (for me anyway)
Gotta assume he gets traded now though or just doesn't play and takes the 20 million dollars. WHAT A GUNSLINGER!!!

I like how they're saying "He is considering a trade to Tampa"...
So much for they can't just trade him to whoever they want Krispy...
What I also find ammusing is the main "source" for Favre is Mortenson, who says "I talked to Brett", what I also found interesting is he said his family is encoruaging him to explore the Jets...
This brings me back to my original point, is this Favre having the "itch" or a push by family members who have made more "1st hand" statements and interviews then Brett during the whole thing.
Charles Woodson needs to stfu

Favre has flown back home and the Jets and Bucs are in a bidding war, so says ESPN.
I can see the Bucks, but do you really think he'd go to the Jets?

Jets need him more than the Bucs do, but yeah, not seeing Favre in New York
