Expect two world exclusives tomorrow. The first, is the Create-A-Wrestler Feature -- while the second is a little something special that people bug me about all the time. What is it?

Tune in tomorrow to find out.

(Oh and don't forget to check IGN Sports for Jon's cool Play of the day movie between Edge and Jericho)

Peace.

here's info

It starts today.

The onslaught of wrestling game footage, from your favorite stars to the best finishers in the game. And not just any game, but the wrestling game everybody's been waiting for: WWE Smackdown! vs. Raw.

And what better way to kick things off than to feature a match between two of the WWE's best performers. Two guys everyone always wanted to see feud but never thought they'd actually get to see. Two guys where it doesn't matter who is the face and who is the heel…all that matters is that they're in the ring together and are about to bring the house down with the electricity and excitement few others can match.

We're talking Edge vs. Chris Jericho.

What started out as friendship is about to turn ugly, so we decided to see what would happen when the two are pitted against each other in the virtual ring.

You'll see first hand, not only the bitter feud, but the new weighted-weapons system, meaning the weight of the stairs is calculated into picking them up. You'll see a few finishers, some high flying, and in the end, one man's hand is raised.

And just to keep with the boos Edge has been hearing lately, we even made his character fight a little dirty.

Who will win? Click on the media link at the bottom of the page to find out.

Check back to IGN Sports for more exclusive videos highlighting everything you want to see in WWE Smackdown! vs. Raw.

Right after watching those videos a few points:

Jericho had to work really hard to get his Face meter to go up, and it went down really easily, Edge on the other hand got his up quite quickly.

The crowd were rather fickle, but overall quite good, as was the commentary which didn't get annoying.

Licensed soundtrack = Although I think it will be changed as I heard a couple of motherfuckings in that 3rd video.

The hits do seem to have a lot more impact, and also Jericho "working" to pick up the steel steps was good, although seconds later he did manage to throw them across the ring quite easily.

Also what's up with the last 20 seconds being blacked out?

Oh and one of Jericho's finishers being a running ensurguri (sp?)?

Was still worth watching though, thanks for the links :)

Just seen the Jericho vs Edge match, pretty interesting. Like the licenced music and glad with Jericho's new finisher. Wonder if the lionsault is one of his normal moves now?

It does seem that its going to be easier to be a heel in this game rather than a face. Everytime Jericho used the ladder his face meter went down, even though people normally cheer faces when they use weapons. There is only a certain number of times you can hit highflying moves and sucessfully finish a taunt.

Just noticed, if you're a face and kick out of a pin, it adds to your face meter, thats pretty cool.

 at screwjob ending, do they not want us to know who would win this match?

Pretty good set of clips there, cant wait for tonights updates.

BTW those pictures were from the OPM2 magazine posted awhile back.

here's a new play of the day, this one features The Nature Boy Ric Flair vs Shelton Benjamin

When I asked Shelton Benjamin about the chest chop, all he could do was laugh. "I took a lot of chops and let me tell you, they hurt like hell. There's nothing like everyone in the crowd shouting 'Woo' as he chops at your chest. I don't care what anyone thinks, that he's just slapping your chest or whatever, but those chops hurt. If the marks on my chest are any indication, those chops are more than just slaps. My chest is starting to throb just thinking about it."

In honor of the chest chop, we decided to put together a video of Shelton taking on the "Nature Boy" Ric Flair.

There were plenty of chops delivered, a figure-four, and even a look at the way you're able to reverse submission holds through a timing meter at the top of the screen.

Can Benjamin beat the legend or does the dirtiest player of the game still have something left for the youngster?

That's part one of our two-part updates today. With the second part, our Create-A-Wrestler feature, still a ways off (it's a huge piece, with videos and pictures and it may not be done until as late as 7:30 Pacific time).

In the meantime, read the story linked above and be sure and visit IGN Sports for Jon's latest Play of the Day videos.

(By the way, this feature may kill me. Hope you like it when it's done).

THQ has finally answered the prayers of its fan base by exclusively confirming with IGN this afternoon that the online feature in its upcoming WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW will indeed make the final version of the game. Known to be a possibility that hinged on the results of the 4000-person beta test held by Sony Computer Entertainment earlier this month, the announcement of a definite online component is news that hopeful players have been writing us letters about for months now.

In keeping with its trend of keeping secrets this year, however, THQ has only confirmed a single online gameplay mode: Head-to-Head competition. What this means for veteran SmackDown players is that they'll be able to participate in exhibition matches with at least one other person over the Internet. Unfortunately, THQ representatives will not comment on just how many players can wrestle each other at one time. Nor will they reveal how many other (re: if?) online game modes there are, or whether or not there will be some kind of ranking system based on performance. It is also unknown whether or not it will support broadband users only, or if it will allow dial-up players to participate as well.

THQ will make the formal announcement to the rest of the gaming press later today at an official media event held in Los Angeles. There, company representatives will make the same proclamation we've made here with the possibility of elaborating further on what kind of features the new online inclusion will have. Regardless of how many modes the game ends up sporting, however, confirmation of online play alone should definitely be comforting news for doubtful wrestling fans.

We'll be back with more on this and several other components of SmackDown vs. RAW as they become available.

Glad to see online is in.

There is definitely too much sound going on in the game. It will be nice to turn off some of it but the commentary is pretty pointless. It's like it hasn't gotten any better since WWF Attitude.

Also, it's amazing how much simple rag doll physics could effect the look and feel of a wrestling game. When I see someone on Raw or Smackdown put a ladder on the corner of the barricade and it doesn't fall, I will mark out.

Who ever is playing the game for these Play of the Day really sucks.

I think the person playing could have done that on purpose just to show us how the submission reversal works, but about the match, Shelton's finisher's need to be changed, his finisher is the Spinnout Powerslam into a pin that he does and his secondary should be either Dragon Whip or the Diving Cross Body he beat Flair with

Pretty decent look-a-like of Eugene, apart from the hair, maybe they will add some more bits in abit later.

I decided to download the hi-res versions this time for Eugene's stuff, and the game looks really impressive. I like the new options for a created wrestler, like the atribute caps and whether they start of clean or dirty, and how you can take a picture of your guys face to use in the menus.

Going by those videos, it seems its fairly easy to raise your 'clean' meter, if you have loads of charisma.

Online should be very entertaining, although now I just got to go through the hassle of getting all the stuff together.

I still don't udnerstand why everyone likes Eugene
I don't think it's necessarily that people like him, it's that he's been such an important part of WWE programming over the last several months, and they bump him from their latest video game in favor of A-Train (who has made less than a half-dozen RAW appearances since Wrestlemania).

I got to tell you though, the one thing I really enjoyed about HCTP was the chair shots could get your opponents meter all read with like 15-20 shots. I don't have a lot of patience at times during season and I just want to move on, so I always knock out the REF, Grab a chair and fuckin unload on the dude. Takes like 5 min to make him all red.

If I am defending my Title, I always use chairs so I never lose it. See, there's that "no lose" mentality I have.

In non-title matches

The quickest way to win (for me, anyway) is to set up a table in the corner and stand next to it until your opponent slams you through it. Instant DQ win.

In title matches

You're right. Grab a chair and beat the living crap out of the opponent until you can win it.

Yeah, the table trick worked well, but sometimes they wouldn't slam you into it. I much rather twat the hell out of people with the chair. Normally go outside the ring, slingshot the ref on the ropes, hit them with the throwback, then start the beatings with a chair

Ok, here are some notes from the Developer Interview which is from Gamespot. The guys name is Devon Newton, dont confuse it with D-Von though :shifty: Anyway, here are some of the things he said: *CONTAINS SPOILERS ABOUT CHALLENGES*

- Game comes out November 2nd for US

- Shows a number of challenges from the amateur level. Ones you can see are:

* Two Finisher Challenge (use two finishers in a match)
* Bra & Panty Challenge
* Elimination Chamber Challenge
* Clean tactics challenge
* Running Dive attack challenge
* No Finishers challenge
* Ladder Dive attack challenge

- The challenge levels are: Amateur, Rising Star, WWE Superstar and WWE Legend with a total of 60 challenges (15 in each level)

- Examples given of Legend challenges are: Make Bret Hart tap out to the Sharpshooter in an Iron Man match and Defeat Andre the Giant with Rey Mysterio.

- When you beat all challenges, you get a hidden extra, which cant be bought in the Shopzone.

- Legends DONT have voice overs

- Once you have chosen your wrestlers, its goes to a Tale of the Tape Screen which lists information about the wrestlers. This is where you can also change the match rules etc

- Shows a "tips" loading screen which reads: "You can call in a stable member to interfere in your match at anytime. Simply press the R3 button to call in interferance. This should help swing the momentum in your favour. This can only be performed in matches that allow interferance and only if your superstar is in a stable"

- Talks about Create a Belt and Create a PPV (No real info here, other than you can trade belts over to different memory cards)

- Double the polygon count for Create a Superstar

- Actions in Season mode determin whether you will fight Clean or Dirty

- Dirty moves include Brass Knuckles and Low Blow

- The clean invincible move lasts for 15 seconds

- Devon complained about the Rumble in HCTP. Says he got eliminated without pressing a button, and went to the guys and asked for it to be changed.

- The ringout meter in the Rumble can be filled up again by taunting and staying in the ring longer.

- Online will be availble on broadband

There you go, some nice new stuff there :y:

A few ideas that I think would be cool:

Interactive entrances. The ability to chase your opponent out of the ring during your entrance, charge down the ramp really quickly and go right after the other guy, excessivly taunt the other wrestler while entering, and the ability to attack a wrestler from behind during their entrance.

Also, it'd be really cool if interferences were FINALLY realistic. This means wrestlers jumping on the apron for distration, placing a foot on the rope, tripping people as they run off the ropes, get in a cheap shot while the ref's not looking, or slipping in a chair or pair of brass knucks or somthing. I hate it how they just join the match in the current Smackdown games.

GM, or manager mode. The ability to assume the role of a GM or manager for a season.

The ability to alter attire, and use custom weapons during matches. IE, an Angle hype up that involves him pulling off the straps of his singlet, and John Cena using his chain as a weapon.

I also wouldn't mind injuries being implemented in the game, like in other sports games.

and the yesterdays Play of the Day

Pinning a man is one thing, but there has to be some sort of extra gratification to making someone tap out. It's not a small package that caught your opponent by surprise or a move where a rival lost his or her balance and couldn't recover. This is you grabbing someone and bending, twisting their limbs in such a fashion that makes them want to quit, cry, or pass out, and sometimes all of the above.

So what would happen if two of the wrestling world's top submission grapplers went head-to-head in an Ultimate Submissions match, a match where you try to force your opponent to tap as many times in ten minutes? That's what we wanted to see as we stuck Chris Benoit in the ring with Kurt Angle. It was Crippler Crossface vs. The Ankle Lock.

And what we found was it's a lot harder to make someone submit than we anticipated.

Kurt Angle's will and determination have been transferred to his polygons.

But can he make Benoit tap in ten minutes?

Click on the media link at the bottom of the page to see what happens.

And since so many people liked the special "Spot" movie of the last Play of the Day, it's back again, this time with a move Benoit busts in the corner to rattle every bone in Angle's poor body.

Play of the Day

What happens when you throw four of the most badass brawlers in the ring at one time, then surround them with sledge hammers, chairs, tables, ladders, and more? Well, you get a brutal fight, complete with Frog Splashes off of the top of ladders, choke slams, power bombs, and plenty of kicks to the cranium.

Like J.R. would say, you're going to see a good old fashion slobberknocker.

yeah, I noticed that too. Hopefully with moves which are on the legs (Sharpshooter, Walls of Jericho etc) you can drag them back to the middle of the ring.

Actually in the current system, mashing buttons will bring you back to the point of the hold as your opponant tries to reach the ropes. So in essense, it's already in there.

One of the things I'm not liking about this Clean/Dirty thing is if your playing as Clean, and use a weapon. I dont get why it should take away from your clean meter, afterall, faces use weapons all the time :-\

Maybe they should have done it so you wouldn't get as much as a boost compared to if you were playing dirty.

I don't think THQ's wasting their time for one on one bouts online. If any online wrestling mode should be attached; it must be the Rumble.

I don't think THQ's wasting their time for one on one bouts online. If any online wrestling mode should be attached; it must be the Rumble.
If the rumble was attached, think of the number of players who would drop out.
If everyone was really good, you could be waiting forever to get your entry number to come round. Especially if you're number 30.
Plus think of all the data being sent round, plus if the online game is hosted on someone's PS2 rather than a central server (as I think it will be), the data won't be sent quick enough and there'll be lots of lag.
Of course one way around this would to only send data to those in the match, but what would the other 24 people be doing in the mean time?

A 6 person online match is possible (especially as they've said it's on broadband only - if I remember correctly), but I very much doubt they'd be able to pull off a Royal Rumble without some serious problems.

Sorry to get a little technical then also.

08-29-2004, 11:21 AM

7:15 AM: Leave to go to first class

7:20 AM - 2:00 PM: In classes, trying to concentrate

2:30 PM: Arrive home

2:40 PM - 4:15 PM: Try and complete all homework so that I can maximize SVR time later on (play HCTP if I finish before 4:15)

4:15 PM: Set up an all-CPU HCTP Royal Rumble with the 30 best guys in the game (the last match the game will see in a LONG while)

4:20-4:30 PM: Watch Rumble, turn off the game once it is finished, put the game away

4:35-4:40 PM: Wait for my mom. Once she arrives, she'll have the game (because she would've ran out and picked it up for me during the day since I can't drive)

4:45-5:30 PM: Saying "fuck the internet" and then playing SVR

5:30 PM-6:00 PM: Dinner

6:00 PM-10:00 PM: SVR (if the teachers decided to rape me with homework on today of all days, I'd take short breaks to finish it up)

10:00 PM: Shower and prepare for the next day

Somewhere between 10:30 and 11:00 PM: Go to bed.

The IGN Sports Play of the Day will capture some of these moments that define the office.

They are the best moments from the best sports games spanning all systems. Moments of celebrations for some. Moments of frustration for others.

One of the most requested videos for WWE Smackdown! vs. Raw has been the Bra and Panties match. Fans of Sable (even though she's no longer with the company) as well as Trish Stratus have come out in such numbers that the clip just had to be made.

Sable vs Trish Stratus part 1 (http://media.sports.ign.com/articles/543/543131/vid_922146.html?mu=http%3A%2F%2Fstreamingmovies.ign.com%2Fsports%2Farticle%2F543%2F543131%2Fpotdbra_ 001_wmvlow.wmv)

Seems they have added some new ways of stripping them (Trish rolls up Sable them goes for her panties) and they have also added that spank meter, which looks pretty shit to be honest.

Hey there guys. Just got off the phone with THQ and believe it or not, it wants to know which legends you'd like to see in NEXT YEAR's version of the game; let me repeat, it wants to know which legends you'd like to see in Smackdown vs. RAW or whatever it ends up being called.

Hell in a Cell seems interesting, although they still make it possible to pin and submit on top of the cell (and I'm guessing outside on the floor) which I dont like.

Bumps from the top of the cell seem to hurt your guy alot, Kane and Matt Hardy seemed to be down for about 15 seconds, even though Kane was still all blue.

Nice little end sequence when you win.

With classic Kane in, I guess they want the most notable icons instead of Legends, so I say add Stone Cold, DX HHH, Young Shawn Micheals, Lex Luger, VADER, and maybe Miss Elizabeth as the first female Legend.

lol Big Show got eliminated after about a minute in.

Liking the new animation when people are "chosen" to enter the match.

Dont like the way you can still pin them on the outside though, I hoped they would change that.

lol at JR speaking french at the begining of the match.

It seems that the wrestlers are abit "smarter" this time round. On HCTP, when ever they went to the top rope, they would go straight to the top of the chambers and jump off, but they didn't do it ever time in this game.

LOL @ Booker T throwing Rey off of the pin, only for Christian to go pin Rey when he lands.

Liking the new animation at the end, although I wonder what happened to Booker T's music? Guess they hadn't put it in at that time.

Overall it seems good. EC was one of the more modes I played in on HCTP so I'm looking forward to this one again.

Perhaps he doesn't plan to go for the next week, so he's letting it all out then, so he will have more time to play on the game?

But if he were to do that, surely it'd create more time to do it the day before. Thus creating more time from day 1.

Yeah, I've been playing it a lot this summer. I go in spurts with certain matches, then goto other ones for a while. 3-way tagteam ladder match, Elimination chamber, 6-man battle royal, 3-way tagteam hardcore matches, and rumbles.

Good stuff. Can't wait for SD vs RAW.

Loose Cannon

Yeah, those multi man matches are the shit. Sometimes I'll let both my tag partners get eliminated and then let myself go 3 on 1 against the other team. Good times

Maybe I missed something with the SD v RAW news, but one thing I wish they'd improve is the eliminating during Rumbles. I was Rhyno in a Rumble during HCTP and did a gorilla press slam and threw the guy over the ropes. It was sweet, but I'd like them to be able to do more things like that. Actual moves over the ropes instead of just punches and kicks.

I know the Rumble is a little different this year, so lets see how that goes.

Also, question about HCTP. I don't think I've ever been able to do a move to the outside over the ropes. I've looked at the button combo but it just doesn't work. :-\ Guess it's just me. Anyone else have this problem?

I can do the running ones by running at the ropes, then hitting square and X really fast as I reach the ropes, but I can't do "slingshot" moves, where I'm just standing at the ropes, then I'm flying over them.

You have to stand next to the ropes, and press towards the ropes and triangle. As soon as your back hit the ropes, you press X. It took me a long time to figure it out.

Another thing...heh. I never really made CAWs in other SD games, maybe one or two that I put no effort into. But in HCTP I've made about 5 or 6 which are nothing special but nothing I feel like making again. Are they transferable to the next game? Wasn't sure if this was possible in psat games. Anyone know?
