<font color=goldenrod>ROFL last night someone on IGN posted a link to another board, where someone had a "magazine scan" leaking the entire roster. It was ridiculously well done, but it was obviously fake.

The roster had 70 active superstars and no legends (like 12 useless divas)...and it would have been the most outdated roster of all time because it was seemingly based no later than early January.

The things that made it obviously fake include:

1. Big Show was in there despite not returning until No Way Out, whereas a guy like Kofi Kingston was missing even though he debuted earlier
2. Chuck Palumbo wasn't there even though he actually had a big storyline at that point (Jamie Noble however, did get in)
3. People who were rarely used, MIA, or injured for a long time like Boogeyman, Helms, Dykstra, and Mike Knox all somehow made the cut
4. Jobbers like Balls, Nunzio, and Stevie got in somehow
5. Shane McMahon was in and on the Raw roster for some reason
and
6. OVR ratings and brands were included...all of the OVRs of people we've seen in the countdown were all wrong and the brands were outdated to reflect the time period (ie: Chavo and Kane on SD, Shelton on ECW, etc)...I suppose those two things are easily changeable, but its still clearly fake...case in point, I remember Vince had a higher OVR than Regal.

I was gonna post the pic here but the boards were down for a while last night and I can't find the topic on IGN anymore. If I find it I'll post it. But yeah, I just find it hilarious how not only did someone go through the trouble of making a top-notch mag scan replica but people actually believed it.</font>

<font color=goldenrod>Funny, I know him as Robert.

In all seriousness though, real curious about how it all winds up. Ledesma (who obviously tends to be full of shit) said it would be the biggest roster yet...but then Bryan Williams (who is actually pretty good) said it would be 30-40% larger than last year which would be a solid 65+.

Be pretty funny if we get a 65+ roster in a year where DLC is likely to be brought in.</font>

Man, I hate this thread when the countdown starts. My scrollwheel gets a hell of a workout.

Kinda psyched for this after the CAF video though. If the iMPACT game has good gameplay (bar it's obvious online/moveset flaws) I hope they steal it.

Hailing from the tropical climate of the Caribbean Sea, Jamaican Superstar Kofi Kingston brings unique in-ring abilities, style and lingo to Raw.

For weeks, WWE fans were offered a glimpse into Kingston's island paradise where the vibrant Superstar took troublesome matters into his own capable hands. Mixing it up with his lightning quick arsenal while maintaining his bright, amiable smile, Kofi undoubtedly made ECW his own private Island of the Extreme.

Kofi has engaged in a series matches against Shelton Benjamin as of late. Although he had done incredibly well in them, Benjamin is responsible for giving Kingston's his first loss in WWE. Rather than slowing him down, this has only inspired Kofi to work harder and do ever better in the future.

The day after defeating ECW's Gold Standard in an Extreme Rules Match, Kofi Kingston was randomly drafted to Raw in the Supplemental Draft on June 25. The Jamaican Superstar will now be looking to make an impact on Monday nights.Source: WWE.com

Breaking records, pumping iron and devastating opponents with his unmatched strength, it's no wonder they call Mark Henry the World's Strongest Man.

Mark Henry's rise to fame began in 1992 at the Olympics in Barcelona, where he competed in weightlifting in the super-heavyweight division.

Three years later at the Pan American Games, Henry captured a gold, silver and bronze medal, solidifying his place as one of the strongest men ever to walk the planet. He has also engaged in Strongman competitions, including the 2002 "World's Strongest Man" competition at the Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic, where Henry earned first prize.

Henry began his WWE career in 1996, and the future looks frightening for anybody that gets in Henry's way. After battling back from many obstacles including periods of down time and uncertainty due to injuries suffered through the years of his career, he is now at the top of his game.

After being drafted to the Land of the Extreme, Henry reached the pinnacle of his career by capturing the ECW Championship. He was also recently named the "Second Strongest Man That Ever Lived" by Flex Magazine. And above all else, he has vowed to destroy anyone who gets in his way.

<font color=goldenrod>Wow :|

Triple H
CM Punk
The Undertaker
John Cena
Chris Jericho
Batista & Rey Mysterio (Tag Team)

That's it for playable characters in Road to WrestleMania mode......granted, each has a totally different story with possible different endings. But christ, of that list I'd probably only be Jericho or Punk.

Also, the rosters for it are pre-WM obviously...which probably means you can't be a heel in story mode yet again

Also, those 7 guys will represent the next 7 days of the Countdown, along with a vid of each character's story</font>

Dark-Slicer Diago
09-09-2008, 06:51 PM
Let's be frank: the single-player career in WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2008 wasn't that great. WrestleMania was in the same city every year, the storyline repeated, and characters were forced into situations that they'd never be in on the show so the players never felt like they were actually walking in that Superstar's boots.

WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 is looking to change all that with Road to WrestleMania.

Rather than have a mode that drops whatever character you pick into an incredibly generalized, vanilla story, THQ and Yukes have created six completely original, character-specific storylines for you to tackle this year. Pick up your controller, and you can take on the show-to-show life of Triple H, CM Punk, Undertaker, John Cena, Chris Jericho, or the tag team of Batista and Rey Mysterio.

<EMBED src=http://videomedia.ign.com/ev/ev.swf width=433 height=360 type=application/x-shockwave-flash flashvars='object_ID=14242649&downloadURL=http://ps3movies.ign.com/ps3/video/article/908/908769/SvR09_RoadToWM_090908_flvlowwide.flv&allownetworking="all"'></EMBED>

As you play these storylines, you'll have to deal with fights breaking out backstage, the McMahons interfering, your friends turning on you and more. There will even be optional match objectives -- such as beating someone in a certain amount of time or putting them through a table -- that will unlock SVR 09 bonus content such as hidden characters, new environments, and new match types.

"We really wanted Road to WrestleMania Mode to differentiate itself from Exhibition matches," said Bryan Williams, THQ creative manager. "Though they all have their own vibe, each story promises plenty of twists and turns while staying true to the characters players follow every Monday, Tuesday and Friday night as part of WWE programming."

Williams said that the fully voiced cutscenes that drive the tales make up about two and half hours of the -- roughly -- 14 hours it'll take you to play through all six stories. Of course, that overall time estimate doesn't include the multiple paths and multiple endings.

http://ps3media.ign.com/ps3/image/article/908/908879/wwe-smackdown-vs-raw-2009-20080909020936883-000.jpg

"We've worked hard to make everything look, sound and feel like you're a part of WWE programming," Williams said. "It's the little details, such as match-specific commentary and end-of-show trademark graphics, which we think hardcore WWE fans will appreciate."

Sounds cool, no? Well, we'll have a full-fledged hands-on preview going up next Monday, but today's announcement is also going to be reflected in the IGN SmackDown Countdown, which is where we reveal a SVR 09 Superstar every day. Starting tomorrow -- Wednesday, September 10 -- the Countdown will begin profiling the seven Superstars from Road to WrestleMania and giving you video snippets of their storyline in addition to their traditional Countdown vid.

It's a good time to be a wrestling fan on IGN.

A short Q/A with THQ by Gaming Ring

All questions answered by Dan Ryan, associate creative manager, THQ.

How has the AI changed compared with 08?

Dan Ryan: Improving the AI in all areas of the game was a big focus for us while developing WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009. Players will definitely find computer-controlled Superstars smarter, more competitive and behaving more realistically than in past installments. In fact, we here at the office still find ourselves getting surprised and beaten by AI opponents from time to time.

How is the auto targeting system compared to last year’s game?

Dan Ryan: The automatic targeting system has been completely redone in WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009, and the results are much more responsive and intuitive. Depending on which direction the player is moving the Left Stick, the game will automatically direct their Superstar’s attacks in the proper direction so that they are always targeting the intended opponent.

With abilities such as hardcore and high flying, how are they being used for each wrestler this year.

Dan Ryan: In WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2008, each Superstar had two Fighting Styles, each made up of a number of unique abilities. This year, in order differentiate Superstars even further from one another, we decided to eliminate the specific styles and instead allow Superstars to have any combination of individual skills, including a number of brand new abilities that are making their debut.

Is custom music still available for Create an Entrance?

Dan Ryan: Yes it is, and this year players will also be able to use customizable entrance music on the PS3, as well on the Xbox 360 version of the game.

Have to say that I'm underwhelmed.

Like Vito I've always wanted to play as a proper heel in SM (I remember playing thru as Orton and annihilating Eugene during a tag team story mode two years ago and the next show we're friends again - stupid).

6 seperate 3 month story lines is pretty lame.

AND NO STORY MODE FOR ORTON!?!?!

Maybe the announced mode is a season mode or a revamped GM mode which integrates storylines and cutscenes normally seen in season modes where you can use EVERYONE in the game?

Why would you want to wrestle as a diva, also you could exit through the door, just not on two feet, problem with crawling your way to victory Shaggy?

I just want to wrestle as a diva to change things up. I like wrestling as everyone else in the game and want something different for once. My favoritge thing to do in the past games is pick like the worst Diva and put her in a elimination chamber against people like Big Show, Kane, Undertaker, Khali and Triple H...just to see if I can win.

I just wanna be a diva in storymode to shake things up a bit.

Let's be honest: hailing from the rolling hills and broad valleys that constitute West Newbury, Mass., will likely never earn you "street cred" -- unless, of course, you're John Cena. Then again, it didn't happen overnight for him, either. Long before he became the Dr. of Thuganomics, young Cena had to endure the neighborhood rocker kids' taunts about his baggy pants and rayon Kwamé shirts. His love for freestyling lyrics about rebellion and individualism just didn't fit within the small rural community. By the time he turned 15, however, those same kids would stop teasing him, for it became apparent that Cena had been developing another passion: hitting the gym.

After applying to more than 60 colleges (and being accepted by 58), Cena attended Massachusetts' Springfield College, where he excelled as a Division III All-American offensive lineman and team captain for the Pride. But as much as he fondly remembers his college football accomplishments, he's equally as proud of earning his degree in Exercise Physiology, which he attributes to making him a smarter, more durable performer in the ring today.

Though a huge WWE fan since childhood, rooting for heroes like Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, and Shawn Michaels, Cena had honestly never even considered a career in sports-entertainment. Instead, he flew out to California in 2000, to pursue a profession in bodybuilding (a move he now admits to making simply because his father had told him he wouldn't make it out there). But while working behind the counter of Gold's Gym in Venice, a discussion with a wrestler-in-training encouraged Cena to enroll in classes at Ultimate Pro Wrestling. He was instantly hooked, and became motivated to learn everything he could about his newfound craft. He obviously proved a quick study; within a year, World Wrestling Entertainment signed Cena to a developmental contract to train at Ohio Valley Wrestling. By June 2002, he had joined the SmackDown roster, and less than a year later headlined the first of what has since become countless main-event matches.

That said, Cena has never forgotten his roots. In fact, remembering where he came from has helped him evolve into the man he is today: a well-versed hip-hop artist, a successful movie star and a blue-collared Chain Gang Soldier who's always ready to fight. In his jean shorts and Reebok Pumps, he leads his WWE fan-based army into battle with the mission statement he's been down with since Day One: hustle, loyalty and respect.

Terrible.

Wow :|

Triple H

Also, those 7 guys will represent the next 7 days of the Countdown, along with a vid of each character's story

There goes Jef Hardy's only chance of ever winning the world title.

For a moment, forget all the monikers and catch phrases. Overlook the seemingly countless championships and tournaments he has won. Ignore the fact that he has spearheaded two of the most important factions in WWE history, and overcome what the pundits considered career-ending injuries. You need only two words to properly sum up Triple H: The Game

Strong words, especially when one considers the King of Kings was once a 135-pound "beanpole" from Nashua, N.H. But when he received a free one-week membership for a small local gym one summer day, the 14-year-old "gangly" teen's life changed forever. For the next three years, he spent nearly every day in that gym, developing every muscle in his body and transforming himself into a six-foot-four, 210-pound powerhouse. He entered -- and won -- numerous regional bodybuilding competitions, including the prestigious Teen Mr. New Hampshire title at the age of 19. Yet The Game himself admits, "I never seriously considered becoming a pro bodybuilder... My dream was World Wrestling Entertainment."

Enrolling in Walter "Killer" Kowalski's Pro Wrestling School in Malden, Mass., the future Cerebral Assassin trained four days a week under Kowalski's "tough love" tutelage, then divided his weekends between wrestling in the independent circuit and managing a Gold's Gym in Nashua. Almost inconceivably, he would have to fly himself down to Atlanta in 1993, to convince then-new VP Eric Bischoff that he was "good enough" to join the World Championship Wrestling roster. Fortunately, the unlimited potential he showed at World Championship Wrestling quickly got him noticed at World Wrestling Entertainment; by May 1995, "Hunter Hearst-Helmsley" (a name which soon became more identifiable as Triple H) would make his WWE debut. And the rest, as they say, is history.

More than 20 years after entering that small Nashua gym, Triple H maintains the strictest of training regimens, incorporating techniques from world-renowned fitness trainers like Charles Glass. Such dedication has provided him with the fortitude to become a Grand Slam champion; the wisdom to shepherd the "Evolution" of then-newcomers Randy Orton and Batista to WWE Superstardom; the charisma to star in feature films, television shows, and commercials; and the stamina to pull countless sophomoric pranks on Mr. McMahon as a founder of D-Generation X. And it's precisely what makes him "that damn good." Source: WWE.com

<font color=goldenrod>Yeah, as I've said...unless they are giving us tag legends or something, almost all the legends they normally use will be in Legends of WM. If any legend is in the game, it'll prolly be Flair.

Apparently if they continue to only do one Countdown guy per weekday, the roster will only be 52...but I'm guessing they'll double up towards the end, maybe doubling on tag teams. I mean, if Jesse is announced one day, not only would most people not care but it would spoil Festus' inclusion.

Come to think, I wonder if they have a cutscene of Festus flipping out when the bell rings...and when the match ends his postmatch thing should be him going docile.</font>

<font color=goldenrod>I'd mark out if Deuce 'n Domino got in. :o With the focus on tag teams and apparently no legends, you never know...them, Londrick, and Cade/Murdoch all should have been in last year, and THQ likes to put people in a year later than they should, so it's possible.

If Londrick are in...I bet they give Kendrick his updated music and tron while he still has his old attire (ala La Res). It'd be hilarious if Deuce re-debuts before the game goes gold and so they give him Snuka's music or something while he's still a greaser.</font> :o

From the moment his signature gong fills the air, The Undertaker captivates WWE fans by his mere presence. The Deadman from Death Valley is usually a man of few words, but he can intimidate even the toughest WWE Superstars with just one glance. His somber persona has been a terrifying trademark of WWE for nearly two decades and no list of WWE all-time greats can be considered complete without Undertaker.

First seen at the 1990 Survivor Series, Undertaker was introduced as the final member of Ted DiBiase's "Million Dollar Team." Since then he has come to be a multiple time WWE and World Heavyweight Champion, and maintained a WrestleMania undefeated streak that stands at an impressive 16-0. The Deadman has defeated such Superstars as Randy Orton, Triple H, "Sycho" Sid, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Bret "Hitman" Hart and Jake "The Snake" Roberts to earn his many titles and keep his WrestleMania streak intact. In October 2007, The Deadman also became the first man to break free from The Great Khali's Vise Grip to defeat the 7-foot-3, 420-pound colossus as well.

Throughout his time in WWE, Undertaker has notoriously disappeared for months at a time; often thought dead and "resting in peace," The Phenom always mysteriously returns to the ring to seek vengeance against those who have sent him away. From Yokozuna to Kane to Edge, Undertaker always finds a way to claim the souls of those who have wronged him.

In addition to his solo success, Undertaker has been quite the team player throughout his career. From his lengthy relationship with manager Paul Bearer to spearheading the Ministry of Darkness (which included the recruitment of Superstars such as the Acolytes, The Brood, Mideon & Viscera), The Phenom has been successful in every venture. He has even earned multiple World Tag Team Championships, standing alongside the likes of The Rock, Stone Cold, Big Show and his own brother, Kane. Source: WWE.com

SVR 09: THQ&A (09.12.08)
Cory Ledesma is here to answer all your questions about the next WWE game.

September 12, 2008 - Fall's a pretty great time of year. Yeah, yeah -- there are all those leaves changing colors, the return of football, and pumpkins or whatever -- but what the fall really means is that it's wrestling game season.

This year's no different at IGN. The SmackDown Countdown (where we debut the SVR roster one character at a time) is in full effect, we've already got our first Friday Fight (a full SVR match fans choose) in the books, and now it's time for the first THQ&A. THQ Senior Creative Manager Cory Ledesma has selected a number of IGN reader questions about SVR 09 and answered them in full.

Want to get in on the action? Want to vote on the new match we feature on Friday Fights? Want to ask Cory a question? You'll need to start checking the IGN SmackDown board then, brutha.

Until then, enjoy this fan-driven interview, but keep in mind reader questions have not been edited so that they may serve as catalyst to scare kids back into the classroom.

TwistedSwanton: Now in this latest video of create a finisher a few seconds before it goes to it we see the create menu. Now is there no create a stable in this years game or is it somewhere else?

Cory Ledesma: Create-A-Stable is indeed still in WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009. However, it is no longer under the Create Menu, and we have changed the name of it to "Team Management." We will still have all the great features that were found in Create-A-Stable from past iterations of the game.

fl305: Is GM mode in?

Cory Ledesma: The GM mode is not in WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009. We decided to go in a brand new and exciting direction. Although the GM mode has been in the game for the last three years, we wanted to offer a new and exciting mode that we believe offers more of what our WWE fans are looking for. This new mode, however, does offer some of the same features found in GM mode, but we are presenting everything in a whole new way.

fl305: Are there more than 8 divas this year?

Cory Ledesma: I don't want to spoil the Superstar Countdown, so I would rather not reveal it just now. But I can tell you that we have a huge roster this year. Please check daily to see who is announced next.

fl305: Are there Classic arenas as unlockables?

Cory Ledesma: Yes, we do have a special unlockable arena this year, but I don't want to give out spoilers. You are going to have to wait until someone else spoils it for you or to pick up WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 and check it for yourself.

TwistedSwanton: Will there be alternate attires in this years game?

Cory Ledesma: Yes, indeed. We have about eight alternate attires in WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009. All of these are unlockables in our Road To WrestleMania mode.

Phoenixxx73: Do researchers from THQ/Yukes visit these boards as part of their research into what to add or remove for the next game?

Cory Ledesma: We absolutely do! I can say with full honesty that all of our designers are frequent visitors to the IGN message boards. This is one of our best resources and the best way to hear directly from the fans. I occasionally read posts from people who doubt we are looking, but we definitely are. I see your posts about us!

619rko: Will the PS2 version have online? Will the PS2 version include everything that the next gen consoles have (besides the graphics)?

Cory Ledesma: Unfortunately, we are not supporting online play for the PlayStation 2 this year. The PS2 version does include almost every single feature from the next gen consoles. As we continue to roll out the rest of our features, we will let you know which consoles each feature will be supported on.

LeonJuggaloWHF: At the end of the CAF video, when Punk pinned Batista, he didn't just stand up and be motionless while the video went off. Does this mean we will have any control post match in the non-Wii versions?

Cory Ledesma: The interactive victory scenes are an exclusive feature for the Wii version of WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009.

dave_150177: We've been told that Caw mode has ridden itself of the "painted on" look, although we were told this in 07 I think... What else has changed with CAW mode, or have they left it the same?

Cory Ledesma: We focused mostly on the quality of the Create-A-Superstar parts. They are all 3-D parts and look fantastic this year. Fans will definitely notice the difference. We have also added some new customization options that give you a little more freedom. More details to come later.

blackcyborg: Has manual targetting been put back into the game?

Cory Ledesma: There is no manual targeting in the game. However, we have put in an awesome system which I like to call a semi-auto target system. This system is auto, but can be also controlled in-game to target whoever you want. We have redesigned this brand new targeting system from the ground up. I think it is near flawless because it is extremely accurate and super easy to use.

ChristianSpikez: Why should I buy this game , I'm not 100 % Convinced that it might not live up to it's hype. Give me some reasons why I should buy this year's game. I'm a big fan of the season mode but it's only three months it makes me wonder , if I should buy this game or not.

Cory Ledesma: Fans of the game know that I have been working on the game for a long time (eight years, to be exact). I have seen some of the best WWE SmackDown vs. Raw features/games and some of the ones that did not deliver on fans' expectations. I can say without any hesitation that this is by far the best WWE SmackDown vs. Raw game I have ever worked on. Now, I'm sure some of the readers are sitting there and thinking, "Yeah, like he's really not going to say this is a great game," or "He's going to say whatever to put the game over." I'm saying as a true wrestling game fan that this is truly the best wrestling game I've ever seen to date. Here are the reasons why:

. Gameplay is solid! I haven't felt this good about WWE SmackDown vs. Raw gameplay in a while. The game feels very well tuned and polished. A lot of that credit goes to Yuke's and our game designer Bryan Williams. We have also improved a lot of match types this year, including my favorite – the Tag Team match.

. Road To WrestleMania Mode is one of the best story modes we have ever delivered. Now, I know some people are complaining that there are only six stories. However, you will not complain at all when you play these storylines because they are fantastic and incorporate a lot of new gameplay elements into the stories. They also have multiple endings, choices and challenges that are all character specific. The mode itself is just a very satisfying experience. I've personally played all the stories multiple times because they are that much fun. As a creative team, we felt that we needed to vindicate ourselves based on the 24/7 mode we delivered last year, so we took the challenge to step up and deliver an amazing experience this year.

. Huge roster. Enough said.

. Mystery features that have not been announced. I know there is a lot of talk on the boards about what the mystery mode is, and rightfully so, because there are a lot of great features that we have not announced yet. These mystery features will definitely win your approval. We will be announcing them in the near future, so as you start to see these features revealed and you think of all the awesome features we've already announced, you'll definitely piece together why this is the best wrestling game ever.

. Create-A-Finisher. If you're a wrestling fan, then how could you not buy a game that has this feature? This is the pinnacle of wrestling game features. This is a feature that everyone wants, and it's finally here!

Pedrolovesdivas: Why can't divas participate in all matches?

Cory Ledesma: The WWE does not want their Divas to bleed or be put in extreme matches that you would not normally find them in when watching WWE programming. This is why we have put this restriction in our game. We apologize to our fans who are interested in this possibility. However, we feel it is important to keep the authenticity of the WWE brand in tact.

mysterio_619_king: CAF looks great and runs very smoothly. Are you even able to create a finisher that say goes into a sturggle submission hold?

Cory Ledesma: We did not incorporate struggle submission holds into the Create-A-Finisher mode. For our first effort of the mode, we decided to dedicate the majority of our effort creating as many animations as we could from the front grapple position. This way we ensure that our fans are very pleased with the amount of content out of the front grapple position, and then as we continue to improve the mode, we can make sure we are offering more and more quality positions and animations. You can say it is more of a quality versus quantity approach. Rather than have a lot of positions and only a few animations, we wanted to have the most frequent and popular position and tons of animations.

For record's sake, here's a running total of the roster so far, using people with visual evidence/countdown/obviousness:

* = not confirmed anywhere but it's fucking obvious they'll be in either due to a partnership or being a big name

<b>Raw - 19</b>
Batista
Beth Phoenix
Candice
Chris Jericho
Chuck Palumbo
CM Punk
Cody Rhodes
Hardcore Holly*
JBL*
John Cena
Kane
Kelly Kelly
Kofi Kingston
Melina

Shawn Michaels

<b>SmackDown! - 13</b>
Big Show*
Edge*
Festus
Great Khali*

Jimmy Wang Yang
Mr. Kennedy
MVP
Shelton Benjamin
Triple H
Umaga*
Undertaker

<b>ECW - 6</b>
Chavo Guerrero*
Finlay
John Morrison
Mark Henry
Matt Hardy

Up to 38 so far then...if there are indeed over 60 in the game (a "huge" roster) and few if any legends, they might finally be able to top SYM/HCTP's rosters.</font>

<font color=goldenrod>Yeah I think Moore's got a pretty good chance too. Come to think, if the roster is as big as they make it out to be...there might be an assload of teams in the game, around WM time there was:

1. Rhodes and Holly
2. Miz and Morrison
3. Jesse and Festus
4. Hawkins & Ryder
5. Moore Wang
6. Londrick
7. Cade & Murdoch
8. Deuce 'n Domino
9. Cryme Tyme (returned the night after WM so there's a chance)

I highly doubt they all get in...but if the roster is around 65 or so and there aren't any legends it's not unreasonable, if only because I don't see singles guys who are also mega jobbers like Val Venis and DH Smith getting in.</font>

<font color=goldenrod>Elijah Burke confirmed himself to be in the game on the message board of his official website.

I have a feeling he only made it to try and beef up ECW's roster total a bit...but like with Yang and Palumbo, I'm really glad to see he made it. He'll get more use in my game than he ever did on TV.</font> :o

<font color=goldenrod>I'm withholding judgment until I see the mystery mode, which I fully expect to be an old-school style season mode where you can use anybody. Greg Miller posted this on the IGN board

Hey--

So, beyond the daily Countdown, we have some special stuff happening this week.

Monday
- I'm putting up a brief eyes-on of RTW.

Thursday
- You're getting an IGN video feature detailing me playing a real WWE Diva who will be announced today.
- Podcast Beyond -- the IGN PlayStation Team show -- will feature an interview with THQ Senior Creative Manager Cory Ledesma, Creative Manager Bryan Williams, and the Diva.

Friday
- Friday Fight. Polls should open Wednesday morning.

Hugs.

So do they mean that Thursday will be the official announcement of said Diva in the game or that today's countdown will be the announcement of the Diva?

If it's today, then I'm calling Melina...if it's Thursday then Michelle McCool.

There is one thing you can say about Chris Jericho: The guy sure knows how to make an entrance.

His WWE debut in 1999 as the man behind the mysterious Y2J millennium countdown was one of the most memorable moments in sports-entertainment history. But Jericho outdid himself in his "second coming" as the answer to a series of code-encrypted video eight years later. The man who will "Save_US" all is back after a two-year hiatus, and our fans couldn't be happier.

Whether he's been beloved or hated by WWE fans, Jericho has never been at a loss for words. And "Y2J" has backed up every single word he said in his storied career, winning a laundry list of championships and going down in history as the first ever Undisputed WWE Champion.

The son of former National Hockey League player Ted Irvine, Jericho was born in Manhasset, N.Y. but was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba in Canada. He trained in Stu Hart's famed dungeon and made his pro wrestling debut at age 19 in 1990. Jericho wrestled around the world and infused different styles he learned in Canada, Mexico and Japan into his own repertoire. He slowly built a following what would become loyal "Jerichoholics" before appearing in ECW (where he briefly held the ECW TV Championship) and then landing in WCW in 1996. Jericho would rise to new heights of stardom – when he entered World Wrestling Entertainment in the summer of 1999.

Jericho's rivalries with Chyna, The Rock, Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, Rob Van Dam and Christian were legendary for both their in-ring intensity and comic vignettes outside the ring. Hardly any titles were safe when he was around. Besides holding the European and Hardcore Championships, the self-proclaimed "Ayatollah of Rock 'n' Rolla" won the Intercontinental Championship seven times and held the World Tag Team Championship three times with three different partners. But Jericho cemented his place in WWE history on December 9, 2001 at Vengeance, when he beat both The Rock for the WCW Championship and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin for the WWE Championship to unify both titles and become the first Undisputed WWE Champion. Jericho's WWE championship was brief – he lost the title to Triple H three months later at WrestleMania X8 – but no one could take away his accomplishment.

Y2J's WWE career appeared to end in August 2005 when he lost a You're Fired Match to then-WWE Champion John Cena on Raw. Jericho pursued an acting career, continued touring with Fozzy and appeared on VH1's Best Week Ever and I Love The '80s. He has also hosted his own show on XM Satellite Radio called The Rock of Jericho and released his biography, A Lion's Tale: Around the World in Spandex.

Despite his numerous projects, the multitalented Jericho cannot get enough of the squared circle. Behold the second coming of Jericho. Who knows what the rebirth of his in-ring career will bring. One thing is certain, as Y2J would say, WWE fans are not likely to see anyone like him ever – evvvveerrrr – again! Source: WWE.com

<font color=goldenrod>I can't be bothered to get the timing down to pause it at the right time but apparently in Jericho's Wii vid, after his entrance...the brief shot of the loading screen confirms Holly as being in (as expected) as one half of the tag champs.

Also, Maria and Lance Cade are shown there too. Guessing Trevor Murdoch is in as well then.

Maria will be the diva featured on Thursday.</font>

Luck is for losers, at least according to CM Punk. Even though his arm is literally tattooed with good-luck charms, Punk believes you make your own good fortune through hard work and intense preparation.

Growing up in Chicago, the Raw Superstar's childhood consisted of watching the likes of "Rowdy" Roddy Piper and Jimmy Snuka exchange words, then blows. Such heated rivalries helped Punk realize that sports-entertainment was where he belonged. Adopting the "straightedge" movement—in which one bases their life around personal development, and avoids drugs, alcohol and a dependency lifestyle — Punk has brought his own style to WWE.

Punk's in-ring repertoire is an assimilation of fighting styles he has learned from his travels around the world. In his WWE pay-per-view debut as a part of Team DX at Survivor Series 2006, Punk brought down the house in Philadelphia where fans showed their respect for his talents.

In 2007, the Straightedge Supertar obtained the ECW Championship by defeating John Morrison on ECW on Sci Fi. In his tenure in the Land of the Extreme, he was considered a top contender and constant threat for whoever was holding the ECW Title. Source: WWE.com

Dave Batista has been "The Animal" since childhood, in temper if not in name. Raised in a rough part of southeast Washington, D.C., he describes himself as being "a skinny kid with asthma and a bad size complex" — and a penchant for getting into trouble with authorities. He spent a few years in San Francisco after his parents separated, until his mother sent the troubled teen to live with his father in suburban Virginia. By the time he turned 17, he was estranged from both parents, living on his own, and still getting into trouble.

For the better part of 10 years, Batista spent his days training and competing as a bodybuilder, and his nights "bouncing in clubs, floating from here to there." (He's still amazed that one club he worked at is less than two blocks from Washington D.C.'s MCI Center, where he defended his World Heavyweight Championship against JBL at SummerSlam in 2005.) His drifting stopped the night he unleashed his explosive temper on two patrons who had attacked his fellow bouncers. "By the time I was finished with them," he relates, "they were lying on the ground with their eyes rolling in the back of their heads. I was very scared they were going to die." They didn't, but the incident did result in Batista's arrest, a year's probation, and his decision to make radical changes in his life.

Enrolling in Wild Samoan Afa's wrestling school in Allentown, Pa., Batista admits that at first he saw sports-entertainment simply as "a way to make a living"— until he was told at a WCW tryout that he didn't have the chops to make it as a wrestler. "That lit a fire under my a**. Wrestling became an obsession that I fell in love with. I completely redirected my training and philosophies, redesigned my body and mental outlook. I just really wanted to be an athlete and an entertainer."

Though his personal perseverance brought him to WWE in May 2002, Batista credits former Evolution colleagues Triple H and Ric Flair with developing "a muscleheaded goofball" into a World Heavyweight Champion, one who backs his composed words and demeanor with an explosive fury befitting his nickname. He considers himself neither a leader nor a follower in the locker room ("I'm just a loner, I keep to myself," he insists), but inside the ring, on the covers of muscle mags like FLEX, and even once against budding Superman Tom Welling on The CW Network series Smallville, "The Animal" is clearly a dominant species. A dominant species who, by the way, has collected more than 50 vintage tin lunchboxes. Our advice: respect this six-foot-six, 290-pound beast and his 1967 Green Hornet sandwich container (sporting Bruce Lee's face on the front), which he cherishes among his most prized possessions. You'll live longer. Source: WWE.com

Exploding onto the sports-entertainment scene in the mid 1990s, the colorfully masked Rey Mysterio quickly redefined the way the game was played in the ring. From his awe-inspiring West Coast Pop to his trademark 619, Mysterio is on the cutting edge of wrestling excellence. The definitive high-flying Superstar, Mysterio, despite his size, is an innovative underdog that fans of all ages have grown to respect and love.

Rey's impressive Championship resume ranks up there with the all-time greats. His World Championship reign complimented eight Cruiserweight Championships, four WWE Tag Team Championships and one Royal Rumble win.

Becoming a World Champion is something he aspired to do all his life. While growing up in San Diego, Rey Mysterio always wanted to be a wrestling Superstar. As a young teenager, he followed his dreams by training in the unpredictable and high-flying Mexican Lucha Libre style of wrestling. His training and early career in Tijuana, Mexico led him to an even bigger stage – first in ECW and then WCW where he revolutionized the fast, high-impact style you now associate with the master of the 619.Source: WWE.com

THQ accepted, and the company sent the game's greatest champ: WWE Diva Maria. In the game, Maria's the WWE Women's Champion, and in real life she's a sexy spitfire you probably know from her in-ring skills and Playboy cover.

If there's one thing two-time BYWF Champion and Current IGN Campion Gruesome Greggy (also know as IGN Editor Greg Miller) is good at, it's eating chicken wings. However, if there's a silver medal in his talent pool, it goes to the kid's WWE SmackDown vs. Raw abilities.

With a few weeks of WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 -- THQ's latest wrestling game that's set for a November release -- under his belt, Gruesome Greggy laid down a challenge to THQ: he'd put his IGN Championship belt on the line in a SVR 09 match against any of the real WWE Superstars who have a championship in the game.

THQ accepted, and the company sent the game's greatest champ: WWE Diva Maria. In the game, Maria's the WWE Women's Champion, and in real life she's a sexy spitfire you probably know from her in-ring skills and Playboy cover.

Can Greggy's SVR fortitude survive the feminine wiles of this femme fatale? Who will be the first unified IGN/SVR 09 Women's Champion? There's only one way to find out, and it's called clicking the play button below…

If there's one thing Candice Michelle is determined to prove, it's that she's not just another pretty face. And she seemed to prove it by winning the WWE Women's Championship and holding on to it for almost three months.

A native of Milwaukee, Candice moved to Los Angeles at age 19 to pursue a career in acting, and after appearing in multiple movies, TV shows and magazines, she applied for the 2004 Diva Search. While she didn't win, Candice was quickly signed to the Raw roster.

Since becoming a WWE Diva, Candice has maintained her beautiful image while continuing to improve her grappling skills. She's worked with legendary Four Horsemen enforcer Arn Anderson to hone her in-ring skills, and her development is evident every time she steps into the ring. From physical battles to the vaunted Lingerie Pillow Fight, Candice is not afraid to mix it up in any way. Her training and her heart have paid off with the Women's Championship.

And of course, there's her impressive resume of external activities as well. Candice has been featured in numerous magazines, from DXL to Stuff, and she graced the cover of Playboy in 2006. In addition, she acts as a memorable spokeswoman for GoDaddy.com, starring in multiple controversial and nearly too hot for TV commercials that began airing during Super Bowls XXXIX and XL.

Candice embodies the spirit of a true WWE Diva, that being a woman who can kick ass and look good doing it. With her particularly striking combination of good looks, in-ring ability and bubbly personality, this the self-professed "Cheese Head" from Wisconsin could someday be considered one of the greatest WWE Divas ever.Source: WWE.com

<font color=goldenrod>Since I'm bored, I'm gonna try to guess all the new guys...based on the claim made in the Podcast that 30% of the roster has never been in a SD game before...30% of 60 is 18, so I guess I'll go with that, though it could be more since the roster is over 60.

Confirmed: Santino, Miz, Kofi, JWY, Cody, Beth, Maria (was in last year but not playable), Jesse & Festus

That's 9...so 9 more...wonder if I can even think of that many.

Jamie Noble
Shannon Moore

"The Samoan Bulldozer" is not just a clever moniker for Umaga – it's what he is. Perhaps no other Superstar in WWE lives up to his billing as completely as the 348 pounder.

Originally brought to WWE in 2006 by former ECW General Manager Armando Estrada, Umaga comes from a long line of Samoans with a rich history – and a brutal path of destruction – in sports-entertainment. Immediately upon his debut, it was clear that the Samoan Bulldozer would make a lasting impact, targeting and brutalizing the legendary "Nature Boy" Ric Flair. Umaga was bloodthirsty and powerful. Three-minute warnings fell on deaf ears with him. He only knew one speed – full-speed ahead. Maybe he was too simple to comprehend – or maybe he was just fearless – but he wasn't intimidated by WWE heroes and legends. Flair and the rest of WWE knew at that moment that a new monster was on the loose.

Since then, Umaga has battled WWE's elite, from John Cena to Triple H and Jeff Hardy, among others. His epic battles with Cena and Hardy over the WWE Championship and Intercontinental Title are modern day WWE classics. And perhaps more than anyone, Umaga pushed Triple H to the limit. Many times The Game needed help walking back to the locker room after his battles with the Samoan Bulldozer.

Umaga is not a typical plodding big man; he is a heavyweight who is deceptively quick and can be as comfortable on the top rope as any cruiserweight. These traits, combined with his penchant for sadism, make Umaga very dangerous and perhaps that's why he has been used as a hired gun occasionally by Mr. McMahon. Source: WWE.com

<font color=goldenrod>Yeah that's pretty much what I think it'll be KOOS...except for Stevie, who I unfortunately just can't see making it unless they really wanted to make up ECW's numbers. I'd replace him with Elijah Burke (who confirmed himself on his website I think)

I also think Ric Flair will get in, either as the only Legend in the game or just thrown on the Smackdown roster. I could definitely see him in someone's RTW story as an unlockable or something.</font>

Greg Miller posted this on the IGN SmackDown board in reference to Mark Henry's theme playing in the past 3 vids or so.

Hey--

Many of you have been wondering what's up with Mark Henry's "WHOA!" being in every entrance. There are two schools of thought about it on my end: 1) The WWE is going to add a "WHOA!" to each entrance before SVR 09 ships and the game just put it in to be ahead of the curve or 2) Mark Henry is a ghost and is haunting the TitanTron.

In reality, it's an error on IGN's end. I capture the video and give it to the video team. The video team takes my videos and put them in a template for the Countdown. Apparently, they clipped the WWE logo part of the template from Mark Henry's entrance. When they put each day's footage in after the WWE logo, there's a dissolve where the WWE logo fades out -- the sound doesn't. So, the WWE logo clip is about one "WHOA!" too long on the audio end.

Sorry for the confusion, the game's entrances aren't broken, etc. The video team's already created an entered the clips through Wednesday, so enjoy your final three WHOAs. After that -- if not before -- we'll be back on track (see: Whoa-less).

Hugs.
Greg

EA have recently had a lot of success with FIFA online, which is free and comes with 2 Chinese teams. You have to pay to get more teams, stadiums and create a team/player parts. It's hardly an "MMO" even though it's billed as one, all you do is go to lobbies and challenge people.

I presume Smackdown will be very similar and will presumably also be Asia only.

Also, if the secret mode involved a general Season Mode for the rest of the roster and/or the CAWs, my faith in this game will be restored once more. No legends? A Season Mode for the rest of us? 60+ wrestlers (like always )? Tag team specialties? Hell yeah.

<font color=goldenrod>If all the tag teams get in that I think will be in, I think they'll break up the Countdown with one Raw team and one SD/ECW team each week:

This week: Cryme Tyme and DnD
Next week: Cade/Murdoch and Jesse/Festus
Week after: Londrick and Hawkins/Ryder
Final week: Rhodes/Holly and Miz/Morrison (both sets of default tag champs)

Out of all those, DnD are certainly the least likely to get in...but if there are no legends I think they'll get in just because it adds another tag team to the roster for use in the new tag match.</font>

Or even like HCTP where you could go to the GM and demand title shots for the various titles.

As a side note, I've been playing with PCSX2 (PS2 emu for the PS2) and got HCTP to try different things with it and try to optimise the speed. Jesus, even playing at 40fps, it's a much better game than any Smackdown Vs. Raw.

At 7-feet tall and more than 300 pounds, the Big Red Monster has been tormenting opponents since his debut, and even that was huge.

Following months of speculation, Kane made his first appearance on Oct. 5, 1997, at Bad Blood. There, he ripped the cage door off during the first-ever Hell in a Cell Match between Shawn Michaels and Undertaker. Kane and Undertaker then stood toe to toe during a chilling stare-down. The Big Red Monster wore a mask, and he hid his body in attire designed to conceal hideous burns from a fire supposedly started by his half-brother Undertaker. Then, Kane kicked the Deadman in the stomach and Tombstoned him - allowing a bloody Michaels to pin Undertaker for the victory.

Despite the unprovoked attack, Undertaker vowed he would not wage war against his own flesh and blood in front of a national audience. But Kane's assaults continued, and when he set Undertaker ablaze inside a casket at the 1998 Royal Rumble, the Phenom was left with no choice. At WrestleMania XIV, the half-brothers met for the first time in singles competition, but it was only the beginning.

Now that he is back on Monday Night Raw, the Big Red Monster is intent on showing the entire WWE Universe that he is an unstoppable force to be reckoned with. Source: WWE.com

I know what the REAL secret mode is...

It's not some lame season where you can use CAW's and the whole roster, nope.

It's....

THE BRADEN WALKER EXPERIENCE!

Yes, follow the man, the myth, the legend known as Braden Walker as you guide him to great success in the WWE.

You start off with a Knock, Knock joke mini game.

Then you wrestle Armando Estrada.

Then you play an Introducing yourself mini game involving Matt Hardy. Say the right things and he'll call you a Wildcat, if you mess up...he won't know who you are!

Then you will wrestle James Curtis before getting future endeavored!

This action packed mode will feature voice overs of Teddy Long, Matt Hardy, Armando Estrada, and two fans who yell "WHO ARE YOU?!" Also for replay value, you can even introduce yourself to other guys in the locker room via free roam mode.

Now you can play the unaired footage of Braden Walker introducing himself to John Morrison, Mike The Miz, The Tazz, and Joey Styles!

Also for the first time ever on the PS3 and XBox 360, you can control Braden Walker's entrance. Yes! You can choose to either walk straight to the ring or stop and high five fans. The possibilities are endless!

When asked to describe Mickie James in three words, the trio of smart, beautiful and talented quickly comes to mind.

An honors student who played the violin as a child, it was ironically a failed Trigonometry class in high school that sent Mickie into the sports-entertainment world instead of college. Of course, being the diligent woman that she is, Mickie did go on to get her college education, earning an associate's degree in business administration and working on her bachelor's all while traveling the world as a WWE Diva.

Still, it was a long road from childhood dream to World Champion. After training in Virginia, Mickie worked the independent circuit for several years, learning everything she could from such Legends as Ricky Steamboat, Ricky Morton and Bobby Eaton along the way. Finally, after nearly a decade of paying her dues, Mickie made it to WWE, where she has stepped into the ring both with and against long-time idols like Trish Stratus on the way to becoming a multiple-time Women's Champion. <font color=goldenrod>I'd take it with a grain of salt, but apparently on the official SVR website, there was a file that leaked showing the full roster. It's since been removed, but most people have the list and are posting the same list. Exactly 60 on the nose.

RAW

1. Chris Jericho
2. Randy Orton
3. John Cena
4. Shawn Michaels
5. Batista
6. Rey Mysterio
7. Santino Marella
8. Beth Phoenix

1. Matt Hardy
2. John Morrison
3. The Miz
4. Finlay
5. Mark Henry
6. Elijah Burke
7. Chavo Guerrero
8. Tommy Dreamer
9. Boogeyman
10. Tazz
11. Hornswoggle

SmackDown

1. Jeff Hardy
2. Mr. Kennedy
3. Undertaker

5. Shelton Benjamin
6. MVP
7. Jimmy Wang Yang
8. Festus
9. Jesse
10. Maria
11. Umaga

15. Carlito
16. Curt Hawkins
17. Zack Ryder
18. The Great Khali
19. Trevor Murdoch
20. Michelle McCool
21. Victoria

---

Seems pretty spot on, including 10 divas which had long been the rumor. But there are a couple of things that make me doubt the list:

1. The Boogeyman? The same Boogeyman who hasn't been on screen since Summer 2007?
2. No Shannon Moore despite JWY getting in?
3. No Big Daddy V even though he was a big part of TV until he took his leave?
4. No Jamie Noble even though Palumbo got in?
5. Hornswoggle I could see getting in but he'd be glitchy as hell unless he had his own set of animations.
6. They made a point of saying "OVER 60", so that would probably be where the unlockable characters come in.

So yeah, I'll believe it when I see it...it's a solid roster though if it's true. The lack of Noble, Moore, and DnD would be the only down points for me and even at that, the latter 3 I didn't even think would make the game in my initial roster prediction.

I thought they already said that Hornswoggle wouldn't be a playable character due to all the problems with the collision detection?

Plus I just don't see why they would have TAZZ as a playable character, unless they are including legends in the game.

I mean where are guys like Big Daddy V, Mike Knox, Matt Striker, and Stevie Richards? I mean yeah only one of them still wrestles in the company but they all were/have had a lot of TV time since last November.

And why no Trevor Murdoch? I mean he was still around up until a couple of months ago and was still teaming with Cade after Wrestlemania. With them focusing on tag teams I would have thought Murdoch would be in if Cade was as well.

A few weeks ago, IGN debuted the details about Road To WrestleMania, WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009's story mode that has players choose from seven wrestlers and set out on a character-driven storyline that features voiceovers, cutscenes, and the works.

The Interwebs exploded. Fans launched message board posts demanding to know why only seven Superstars could be used in the mode, e-mails poured in demanding to know what this meant for created Superstars, and I'm pretty sure somewhere people burned a scarecrow made up to look like THQ Senior Creative Manager Cory Ledesma. Of course, all of these extreme reactions were a bit premature. THQ and Yuke's have been playing their cards close to their respective vests when it comes to SVR 09, so it was safe to assume they had something up their sleeves.

Today, the cat's out of the bag -- Career Mode is in SVR 09. It's open to every Superstar, Diva, hidden character, and created wrestler in the game. It allows you to pick what titles you go after. In the mode, you get to pick the matches you'll compete in and set win conditions. This is how you will build your created character's stats and abilities -- the game monitors how you perform in the matches and awards you attribute points in the durability, strength, and so on areas.

<embed src='http://videomedia.ign.com/ev/ev.swf' flashvars='object_ID=14242641&downloadURL=http://ps3movies.ign.com/ps3/video/article/913/913551/SDvsR09_CareerMode_092508_flvlowwide.flv&allownetworking="all"' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' width='433' height='360' ></embed>

The setup is simple (there are no cutscenes or storylines) but from my five hours with the mode, it seems like a refreshing and challenging way to build a character.

You can take any Superstar you want into this mode, but for me, Career is geared for your CAWs. When you choose your character -- you can only have one Career going at any time -- you'll start at the bottom of the ladder. When I created two-time BYWF Champion and current IGN Champion of the World Gruesome Greggy, the man that would be a star started with a meager (see: crappy) rating in the mid-30s.

That's out of one hundred.

When the new mode begins, you'll find yourself on your Superstar's private jet, which is a scene similar to last year's locker room. You can click on an event program to check your stats such as your record and the total number of matches that have ended in pins or submissions, you can choose the exit sign option to go wrestle, and you can click your cell phone to see what's going on with your title path. See, depending on whom you choose to start your career, you'll have a handful of championships to go after. You choose a path -- Greggy's extreme, so he went the way of the ECW title -- and are then presented with a list of four Superstars and one mystery champion at the top. Your goal is to steamroll through everyone on that list until you're fighting the champion.

What happens is that you pick to go fight, and the game asks you whom you wish to fight. You pick someone, and then a list of eight singles match types or seven tag match types pops up. You're free to choose whichever bout you want, but in the beginning, you'll only have a few to pick from; more will open up as you knock off each title's No. 1 contender. Even when you're starting from square one, you'll still have some options. When you decide to just have a normal singles match, you're welcome to turn off pins to create a makeshift submission match, turn off countout, and so on.

Of course, Gruesome Greggy's hardcore; I turned off DQ and countouts so I could drag Elijah Burke and whomever else got in my way to the outside and beat them with weapons and such. During my first match, this customization option seemed like a nice bonus, but it turns out it actually weighs pretty heavily into your Superstar's progression. Once the match is over, you'll get kicked to a rating screen where the game will use a five-star review to summarize your bout and where the game will award you attributes based on what moves and techniques you just used. The attributes pop up and slowly fill depending on what you did out there. Because Gruesome Greggy was beating the hell out of Burke with weapon after weapon, his Hardcore rating exploded while Agility and Technical attributes got minor bumps due to the occasional submission hold I tossed in or whatever. When I decided to start leaping from the turnbuckles a bit more, my speed stats started to grow.

Awesome.

http://ps3media.ign.com/ps3/image/article/913/913692/wwe-smackdown-vs-raw-2009-20080925032520199-000.jpg

On top of the straight moves to attribute point relationship, there are awards and abilities to keep in mind. THQ has about 100 awards packed into this game that you unlock by performing specific stuff. Cheese with That Whine? Award comes after you argue with the ref at least four times and Too Many 2s is awarded after winning a match by pinfall after five two counts. Aside from getting these little medals at the end of the match and then being able to view how many times you've earned them, certain awards give your stats a boost. For instance, if you pull your opponent's shoulder off the mat during a pin four times in one match, you'll get the Continue the Pain award, which gives a one-time boost to the Superstar's Charisma attribute. If you can go an entire match without striking, you'll get On Strike and that'll bump up your Strength.

If you've been following the SmackDown Countdown here on IGN, you're probably well aware of the game's Abilities, which give Superstars special moves, taunts, and so on. To get Abilities for you created Superstar, you'll need to earn them in Career Mode. You do this by performing specific actions. Pull off at least 50 object attacks in your career, and you'll unlock the Object ability so that you can perform grapples with the stuff from under the ring. If you rake in three five-star matches with three different opponents who have the Dity Pin Ability, you'll get that Ability. From your private jet, you can scope what Abilities are in the game, but the title won't tell you how to unlock the options until after you unlock them.

Personally, I'm excited about Career Mode, but I can understand how some people might be put off. Usually, I only heavily use one created Superstar a year, so the lengthy molding process in Career -- with five hours under my belt, Gruesome Greggy's only at a 69 rating -- appeals to me. However, if you're looking to create an entire roster, having to mold each one in Career rather than just assign them stats, might get old. Still, this is definitely new ground for the SVR franchise. It's a little odd just going through, beating people, wining a title, and moving on to the next belt, but the character creation and ability to customize your matches seems way better than last year's stifling 24/7 mode.

Career mode sounds awesome, and as for customising stats manually, there were options in shopzone last year to buy stats, so they might include that this year too.

As for Kofi's pyro, you could just edit his entrance with Jeffs pyro or something, if its not in the final game.

Hailing from India, The Great Khali stands at an impressive 7 foot 3 inches and weighs 420 pounds. This enormous monster has walked the jungles of India unafraid of pythons and wrestled White Bengal tigers. Legend states that the Punjabi Warrior has "stared into the abyss and the earth trembled at his gaze."

The Great Khali is a master of the most barbaric match in WWE history: the Punjabi Prison Match. He showed his excellence in this vicious contest at No Mercy 2007.

One of the largest athletes the WWE has ever bared witness to, The Great Khali stands to be a powerful force and a threat to every member of the locker room. In his short time in the WWE, he has already boasted a World Heavyweight Championship reign. During visits to his native India, he is treated as a national hero.

In 2008, The Punjabi Giant starred in the new Get Smart movie based on the 1960s classic TV show. Khali is no stranger to Hollywood, as he also starred in 2005's The Longest Yard alongside Adam Sandler, Chris Rock and Burt Reynolds. Source: WWE.com

THQ&A continues

Patroclus300: Will Legends be in this year? or will you leave Legends out for DLC, and make room for more wrestlers?

Bryan Williams, Creative Manager: We'll be making a formal announcement regarding the specifics of our DLC plans within the coming weeks.

Patroclus300: Why are their only 7 wrestlers available for RTW mode? Why did you leave superstars like Orton, or HBK out of RTW mode?

Justin Leeper, Creative Designer (Road to WrestleMania designer): We think Road to WrestleMania is a significant improvement in comparison with our previous season modes. Before, players took their selected Superstars through generic storylines. Road to WrestleMania stays faithful to WWE's most popular Superstars through unique storylines. For example, Undertaker's story has supernatural elements that only fit him, while Triple H's story delves into his colorful past.

Because of these changes, each story requires very unique design, performances and programming. In fact, Road to WrestleMania Mode's scripts were 250 pages long. We have over 2 1/2 hours of motion-captured scenes and other exclusive goodies. Each story is a huge undertaking, residing in its own private universe.

Keep in mind the stories aren't just about who the player is controlling. Take the two Superstars you mentioned: We did not leave out Shawn Michaels or Randy Orton. They play major roles in at least one story. Both actually have more voiceover lines than some of the playable Superstars!

When the game comes out, try Road to WrestleMania. We think people will want to complete each story – not just for the tales they tell, but also the numerous unlockables and unique elements.

GhastlyDeadman15: When is the cut of the roster? because people say is night of champions and others say wrestlemania.

Bryan Williams: There is no particular date or point in time in which we lock down the roster. The roster cutoff date is governed by our own internal production schedule. I've read a couple posts on the IGN message boards claiming that Night of Champions is the cutoff date. The roster cutoff has nothing to do with the WWE's PPV schedule. It'd be a whole lot cooler if that were the case.

mumtaz1324: WILL ANYONE LET ME KNOW IF THIS GAME'S ONLINE MODE WILL BE IMPROVED I.E. THE ABILITY TO PLAY YOUR FRIENDS ONLINE.

Bryan Williams: We'll be unveiling our online feature set shortly. Without giving too much away, I can confirm that you'll be able to play your friends online. Stay tuned to IGN for more details.

kvn_mixon: Will Divas be able to participate in Six Man Tag matches this year?

Bryan Williams: Players will be able to use the WWE Divas in Six Man Tag Team events.

El-Nuevo-Muchacho: The new features in the tag team match are awesome, but my question is how will they work in single player tag matches where the Superstar on the apron is controlled by the computer? Will their be a way to command them to do certain things like pull down the ropes or grab the opponent, such as with the manager controls in past games, or will we just have to hope they're thinking what we're thinking? Thanks.

Bryan Williams: This is a great question. There is no way to directly control or instruct the AI tag partner on the apron. The AI has been tuned to anticipate actions and behaviors during the match so that the player isn't saddled with having to compete against the legal opponent while at the same time be responsible for commanding the AI partner on the apron. If an opponent in the ring happens to get too close to the AI partner, the AI player will make the grab so that the player-controlled Superstar can perform a double team move or strike. If the player is getting whooped on by an opponent and is close to defeat, the AI partner will begin to generate a hot tag on behalf of the team. Players can also rely on their AI partners to break up potential match ending pin/submission attempts without worry. After completing a tag team match, players can judge the partner AI for themselves. I'm confident that fans will be pleased with all of the improvements that have been made, from gameplay to AI.

angelito: are we having the special ref. match in this year...? i had lots of fun when we had it... when is the demo coming out ?

Bryan Williams: I can confirm that the special referee match figures prominently in one of the Road To WrestleMania stories. I can honestly say it's like nothing you've ever experienced before in a SmackDown game. The Special Referee match is just one of the many cool and unique features that players will only be able to experience playing through Road To WrestleMania mode. As for the demo, it will be out soon. I'm sure Gruesome Greggy will let all of you know when it's available.

MGM1314: When doing research, do y'all really look at some or all of the wrestling vids(i.e. WWE,TNA,ROH,NOAH,NJPW,and AJPW)and decide whether or not this wrestling move is appropriate for the game?

Bryan Williams: Everyone on the team is an avid fan of professional wrestling. When it comes to wrestling, we watch everything! I personally watch roughly 10 hours of wrestling- related programming each week. When it comes to deciding on which moves are implemented, our first order of business is to make sure that each WWE Superstar and Diva in the game has a move-set that is as accurate as possible. In deciding what's appropriate for implementation, it's as simple as identifying a move that looks cool and adding it to our motion capture shot list. We take tremendous pride in our Create A Move-Set, and we make it a top priority to increase the number of available moves each and every year.

CAZH718: will you be able to play your custom music during matches?

Bryan Williams: Yes, players will be able to play their own custom music during matches. However, this functionality will only be supported on the Xbox 360.

jakuls_hell: pedigree on stairs?

Bryan Williams: Players can do a lot of cool things with weapons in WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009, but sadly, performing a pedigree on the steel steps is not one of them. However, I'm not going to end this question on a sour note. In this year´s game, you'll be able to DDT an opponent on top of a steel chair. It may not be a pedigree, but the move is extremely impactfull and appropriately gruesome. Jake the Snake would definitely approve.

wwefnfurlife: Is there any chance of the true backstage ever returning to the games. Like in the days of here comes the pain, in hardcore matches we could travel from the ring to backstage, vice versa freely is that ever going to be back.

Bryan Williams: We hear this request a lot from the fans. I want everyone reading this to know that your pleas for interconnected backstage environments do not fall on deaf ears. Interconnected backstage environments will make a return appearance sometime in the future. Understandably, I'm not at liberty to say when, but expect to see this implemented sooner rather than later.

Im really interested in DLC for this game...I cant wait for their announcement...

I want them to be specific...maybe name a few names for sure...not just tell us that new wrestlers and themes will be downloadable.

Yeah, don't worry about entrance pyros, guys, that's what CAE is for. :y:

But yeah, this game is slowly starting to regain its chance in being bought by myself.

Why does RTW sound like such a cop out?

I thought career mode was the cop out, not RTW.

What angers me at the moment is the building of CAW's stats. I mean it was so much easier when you could just assign the stas to the said person you were making and go on from there. Now were going to have to play like 5 hours of story to get our caw to a 70?

When it comes to making people, I tend to make a lot of guys from the indy scene. And I really thought I would go nuts with CAF in now. Makes me wonder how many people I will make in the end.

#BROKEN Hasney
09-27-2008, 03:03 PM
Well, it's a not story mode as there is no story involved in it :p

Heros Welcome
09-27-2008, 03:09 PM
lol, of course! There is no story, but you know what I mean. It just seems like they are making it harder to make a caw to the rating you feel fits best. And I find it to be some what of a cop out to make people want to make less caws, so people will stop complaining about the mode it self in the end.

09-27-2008, 03:12 PM
I don't see why. It's the best 3D American CAW, even if whatever you make does look out of place.

I don't know, both modes sound fine to me. They sound on the right path. Yes it could use improvement, and lets hope they do in next years or something.

But at least its a good step. They have a voice over season mode which has apparently alot of options at various stages, with alternate endings. So right there, only with the few players they've given us, it has replayablilty with every player. The obvious improvement on this would be to add more playable characters, which I'm sure they will.

As for the career mode, the only problem I can see here is that there aren't any stories involved. Apart from that it sounds fine. Hopefully with feedback they will add to it next year.

Seriously, with create a finisher, the improved tag team mode, with these two variations of story mode, and the removal of ''2 abilities per wrestler' and adding the 'skills', it seems like a pretty positive rehaul of main features.

This game has already well and truely sold itself to me.

I dunno, I won't mind using my imagination to fill in the story parts of Career Mode. Might be fun.

But CAF is my favorite innovation yet. I remember the olden days of No Mercy where you had to use a GameShark to enter in hacks to combine moves to make your own.

I'm pretty much sold on this one. Does anyone know if the PS2 version will be stripped down to the extent that the TNA: Impact PS2 version was, compared to the next-gen console versions?

Wait, wait, wait. TNA had less on the ps2?

I didn't think they could put less in it.....

What did they take out?

<font color=goldenrod>I think I'll make a CAW with a balanced rating of 60 or something, trying to make each stat a 6.

Then I'll copy that CAW over a bunch of times for nay other CAWs I want, and from there I can customize each guy in Career. They'll have the base stats down, I'll just play the matches to account for how I want each guy to fight.</font>

Yes.

http://ps2.ign.com/articles/908/908788p1.html

In a few ways, Midway succeeded; but overall, iMPACT! on the PlayStation 2 is just a super-stripped down version of the PlayStation 3 game, and that title was already missing a lot of stuff.

Who fucking cares about having to take your CAW's through career mode? I mean heaven forbid this might actually add some replayability and possibly cut back on all of the dumbass CAW's of Jeff Hardy in his 2003 attire, Eminem, and other nonsensical goofs people like to create.

I guess you could do that. Build up one CAW and then copy him and change to something else, he'll still have the stats built up, right?

Exactly. This is exactly what I'm talking about. I only ever make a few caws, and I only ever really use one. And then I just change up his appearance and entrance every now and again. So I'd be more than happy to take it through the career mode to build it up.

Anybody know if we still have to make one-track Playlists for custom themes again? That was very annoying.

Lord-Of-Darkness
09-28-2008, 07:22 AM
Yeah hopefully they change that. Should think they have seeing as we can have custom soundtracks during matches, so I doubt that would work using the 'playlist' method.

Yeah, but you could have custom soundtracks during the game last year on 360.

To an extent. You have to open the 360 blade and play the music, you have to pause it from there unless you have a 360 remote. And you can't go back to the game music unless you stop your music completely.

With her signature ring entrance of a sexy split, Melina began her career as a fashion model.

But the wrestling bug bit the Los Angeles native in 2000, when she began training at the School of Hard Knocks in San Bernardino, Calif. She continued to work various wrestling shows, honing her in-ring abilities. In January 2002, Tom Prichard took notice of Melina, where she would work out with WWE while they were on the West Coast--sometimes driving 14 hours.

Her dream was finally realized in 2003, when WWE signed her in San Diego. Two Women's Championship reigns later, Melina is still a force to be reckoned with in the women's division. She credits the experience of training hard with both men and women for making her tougher and stronger. You simply must take the hits and keep on going.

"I was always told I was too short, too fat, too small, too ugly or not good enough. People would tell me every negative comment under the moon, and that I would never make it," Melina wrote in her WWE.com exclusive blog. "I kept going. I knew in my heart that I could make it, and that I was meant for this. My love for wrestling and my determination got me through all the crap I had to endure." Source: WWE.com
