WHAT
What was it
There was this family with two children and a mother and father sitting down to watch a Red Sox game in 1919 (dressed for the attire). The counter on the bottom starts scrolling forward through the years 1919, 1920, 1921, 1922, etc... etc... and they fade to the boys growing up over the years, attending different games with their parents, then their friends, then with girlfriends, then with their wives and their own family. It flashes through the years, changing scenes every decade or so, and finally reaches 2004, with the two, now old men with white hair, still watching the game and cheering their team on. Fade out, and "Just Do It" flashes on the screen.

Great series overall. 5 of the 7 games were very very tight while the other 2 were sorta blowouts. Too bad Game 7 couldn't have been a close game though. I thought its close, but not quite, up there with last years ALCS(but I'm sure Red Sox Nation will disagree) just cuz of the emotion of coming so close and of course the fact the series ended on a walk off. But, I can't deny how much this comeback impressed me. I only think last years ALCS and the World Series of 2001 was better in recent years.

Yeah, Pedro didn't make much sense... unless he wanted to pitch one more time in yankee stadium....
only other thought... if they don't know how Schill will be and lowe on 2 days rest... they might have been keeping him a short pitch count, Wake might go game #1, Pedro #2, Lowe #3 and Arroyo #4 if Schill can't go.

Anehiem is at fault for all of this, when the Yankees lost to them in the DS everybody went crazy and New York has never been the same since. They spend more than ever now. Kent and Beltran are most likely new Yankees next year, and you can sure bet that they go after Randy Johnson again. Its all because of the Angels, if they just let the Yankees win it wouldn;t have to be like this.

Actully... no...
Lescanic has a shoulder ready to fall off.
Lowe was going on 2days rest and had a pitch count limit of 60 and was only left in because he was doing so well.
The pen was tired and could use the extra rest.
Wake is starting game #1.
Hence, having Pedro come an eat an inning...
I know, it didn't make sense to me at first either... but after putting everything together it made sense.

no VEL, it makes no sence to pull out a guy who's pitched only 69 pitches and has a one hit masterful game going, not to mention a large lead. Pedro was a bust in that game and gave the Yankees a spark. Short lived, but it was exactly what the Red Sox didn't want.
You and everyone else would have been calling for Franconna's head if the game was closer and or was lost because of that move. OMG.

No Hero it did make sense.
Francona announced BEFORE THE GAME! Lowe was on a 60 pitch count, and yeah... when you have a big lead, and looks like your going to be playing 4-7 more games you think ahead and you don't want to kill an arm.
No one knows how Schill will be again... can they sutcher the tenden in place again?
Wake is going game #1, right now schill is penciled for #2, Pedro #3 and Lowe #4, meaning they didn't want to burn lowes arm when he just threw 2 days before.
The pen was a mess, Foulke had gone 4days in a row, etc... etc...
They needed someone to eat an inning, someone to not blow the whole game but get out of an inning... that was Pedro.
Does the move make sense if it was 3-2? No, but guess what... the score wasn't 3-2 and you make different decisions, based on the score.
On a side yanks note... funny stat... every year there payroll has been over 100million they haven't won a WS.
YOUR Hero
10-21-2004, 05:19 PM
It was a bad decision that he got away with. Plain and simple. Lowe could esily have eaten another inning. Why push Pedro to the 3rd start? That's stupid. Is he not the best you've got discounting Shilling? He should still get the nod for game 1, but way to chance getting him arm hurt or confidence shattered.

It was a good decision based on the facts and I'm not a Francona (or Francoma as we call him) fan.
What if lowe next inning went 20pitches? what then? you'd complain he should have pulled them, and lowe's a headcase, that would kill his confidence, where Pedro can bounce back.
Wake goes game #1, cause he can eat innings and come back on short rest incase they need him from the Pen.
Schill goes #2 and #6 because they don't want him on the base paths (1,2,6,7 are at Fenway).

Id much rather face the Cardinals then the 'Stros in the series, Astros have been way too hot lately. And their pitching staff is ridiculous
I dunno though, would be cool again facing Clemens, but there is a good chance he probably wouldn't even pitch in Fenway anyways so I dunno
Yeah the Cardinals don't really have any stand out pitchers, and that's pretty much what's going to stop the Red Sox from hitting well unless no one is clutch in the series.

We need pitching for next year and that's that. Except for Brown, our starters did great in the playoffs. It was the middle- late relief that fucked everything up. And Vazquez and Loaiza (sp) were eathier hot or cold. Except for Games 3 and 7 the games were quite close with Boston. It's just Boston got the big hits late and they didn't get the bad luck this time. If A-ROD was called safe on that play, I'm telling you we would be in the Series right now. Yea I didn't think the Sox where going to win the series after going down 0-3. Thats why I was saying all that stuff. Once Foulke struck out Clark in game 6, I don't know, I just knew it then. though Clark hitting a homerun woulda been a "classic Yankee" move, but it didn't happen. Once that happened I started to really believe The Sox were going to win this shit, and they did.
And about Francona, he changed in the last 4 games of the series. What I said was, he wasn't using his bench, he was managing scared. Once he got to the point where he had nothing to lose, he started doing the samethings he did during the regular season, and look what happened. He started putting guys with speed (Roberts) to pinch run, and Roberts scored a tieing run in one of the games, the last 2 games he has put Dougie Fresh at 1st at defense and he made an unbelievable scoop play.
Also, I know Rivera and Jeter are still clutch, I was just pretty hyped. Ortiz was the most clutch player in this series though...SENOR OCTOBER hahah

LC, good work... we can rematch the bet next year.
Jeter is, was and will be clutch... I'll say it again, I'd take him on the Sox in a heartbeat. A-rods getting a lot of crap, and gammons had some interesting stuff to say... about how his own players though the hand slap was bush league and it also changed the momentum of that game, how he yelled at Schef for not going head first into Teck, but A-rod would do it either... how a coach from texas called gammons and said "now the world knows what we were dealing with".

I don't have to go over pro basketball because I have stated that Im not a huge fan of it, but my favorite team is always the team Shaq is on. I am, have been, and always will be a Shaq fan.
Now, onto other sports.
Baseball - Braves fan since the mid 80's/since I've been alive. Check.
Football:
College - Die hard Alabama fan. Have been since mid 80's/since I've been alive. Check.
Pro - Packers fan since I've been watching. Die hard Packer and since they got Peyton, a die hard Colts fan as well. Check.
Now, Braves have one world championship. Alabama one National Championship since I've been alive. Packers one super bowl victory and COlts none.

The Braves have won their division every year for over a decade including one World Series. Thats a team that is perennially good.
If I'm not mistaken you live in Alabama, so thats legit.
Green Bay is known as TitleTown USA, if that doesn't spell it out, they are perennially a winning team. The Colts have been so close to going to the Super Bowl for the past year or two. They are widely regarded as the second best team in the AFC.
Just because theres not tonns of championships doesn't mean they aren't good teams. Its not like you are jumping on a new bandwagon each year, like the Marlins last year and the Jets this year or something, but obviously the teams that you have chosen to cheer for are perennially good teams, you can't deny that, but you can word things so that it looks like you can ;)

I've been a Braves and Alabama fan since birth basically.
I've been a Packers fan since I've been watching football. I started liking the Colts when Peyton joined the team, so that's the only one you can call me on I guess? I wouldn't call it because I was a Peyton fan when he was at Tennessee (although I hate Tennessee, which was kind of weird cheering for Peyton but cheering against TN, heh), but I'm sure people looking at it would. Doesn't bother me. Not like I went from liking Nebraska to liking Miami to liking LSU, which I know some people who are like that. Those are the type of people I do not like. :nono:

Yeah, Bama = nothing to cheer for but Alabama football/basketball. That's why college football is like a religion down here, nothing else to look forward to basically.
Yeah, Peyton tore us up when he was a Sophmore and a Senior. We beat him as a freshman and almost beat them his junior year. That was the only game I wanted him to get sacked 20 or so times.

See, I'm a homer... always have been... but I always have "secondary teams".
Pats, Celts, Red Sox, Bruins.
Saints - Liked them more in the 80's, when they had that great LB core and all the QB's w/ close to the same name.
Spurs - Liked them when they drafted Robinson before he could play, looked at it like the Celtics and Bird.
Pirates and Stros - My little league team was the Pirates and I was a Van Slyke fan (Rod Carew was or is my all time fav player) and they had some good teams that chocked in the playoffs. When Vanslyke retired I started following Biggio and liked the Stros.
Red Wings - No for all the stars and trophies.. followed them for one reason and one reason only. Bob Probert.
and I've rooted for the home teams through good and bad.
Anyway, back to the subject.

Hockey, I like the Pens because when I first started getting into hockey, I liked Jagr because he was Czech, like myself.
Basketball: Like the Bulls when I was really young (like 4th grade) because they were winning all the time  Total Bandwagon jumper there. Then, as I've said before, during the NBA Finals with the Suns, I became a Suns fan and have cheered them ever since.
I also like the Nets, but not as much as the Suns. Funny I never became a Knick fan, although I am starting to like them more and more. I'm a big fan of Marbury.
Yanks, Knicks, Giants for me. Though nowadays i'm about as casual a fan of NFL/NBA as you can get.
Still.

Well, considering how accurate and knowledgable you usally are...
I would think the Cards would step up tonight... but they really seem like a broken horse... it's not like the sox in the ALCS who kept going... and were hitting and lost some close ones.
Unless Lowe has a horrible game and STL (have they decided who is going to pitch yet?) has a gem...
The problem is, the Cards don't have a real #1 pitcher, there #1 would be a 2 or 3 on all the playoff teams (maybe even 4) and it goes downhill from there.
What gave the Yanks the first two games was great pitching, something the Cards just don't have, at any point from SP to middle, even that guy that closer... I just hope he doesn't giveup the game winner, he might blow his brains out.

they also discussed he gets a 2mil bonus if they win the WS, it was a clause that was his idea, that the MLBPA didn't like and Schill feels everyones contract should have incentives like that, get paid for accomplishing something and that "well, I don't work for the PA"

XFL had that clause. :shifty:
But yeah, I really hope this city isn't on fire if we win tonight. It would just makes us look like fools. Also, I have class tonight and although the game won't be over yet, I don't want to have to dodge shit on my way to the train to get home.

remember when Otis Nixon bunted the final out of the 1992 World Series right to the pitcher, Mike Timlin, causing the Blue Jays to win their first of back to back World Titles?

Dam, I was planning on wearing my Cardinals jersey to school tomorrow. I don't know about that now.
It's bad enough I don't even like the Cards, but it would be even worse that I'm wearing the jersey of a team I don't even like that just got swept by the Sox.

Why do you have a Cardinals jersey if you don't like them? I guess you just like a certain player or whatever
I was a fan of Charles Woodson, so I bought his jersey, but then after that whole "tuck rule" incident, I gave it to good will haha
Loose Cannon
10-27-2004, 11:25 PM
Nah, I just really like the jersey and I do like Rolen (that's who's name is on the jersey) But I just really liked the jersey and I saw it on ebay for like $30 and I got it. It's like the one they are wearing right now, but it's red. My team was the Cardinals growing up playing baseball too.
I have a lot of jerseys though. I just like wearing them. Mostly baseball and basketball. There is a pic with me in a Royals jersey somewhere on this site.

That strikeout that mabry was ranting about was confusing. I don't know he could have telled if he tipped the pitch, if the pitch did not change direction going into the glove.

Against the Cards starting pitching, the Red Sox batters have only swung and missed a pitch 16 times out of 366. Pretty crazy.
