Looks like it might have been suicide.
Boogaard, who was sidelined for the season after just 22 games when he sustained a concussion in Ottawa on Dec. 9 in a fight with Matt Carkner, was given permission by management to leave the team with approximately a week to go in the regular season in order to receive counseling to help him deal with unspecified issues.

Don't blame the D and Thomas, blame the fact Krejci is the only guy on the team who is really good at face-offs and he wasnt tonight.
Bergeron missing is a HUGE loss for them.

What?
Tampa won like 70% of the faceoffs last game and missing Bergeron who is a good shutdown guy and great faceoff guy is a huge lose.
Krejci is in but 3 out of 20 faceoffs is terrible.

05-17-2011, 12:07 AM
lol he got knocked out by Tom Kostopolous who had either lost or drawn in over 40 straight fights. Bieksa is not a good fighter at all.
Everyone gets a lucky punch or gets dropped by a lucky punch. Bieska wins more than he loses.
He's much more valuable than being used a fighter, but when he drops his gloves...he's anything but terrible.

I sure as hell hope it isn't concussion related or the American sports media is going to have a field day with this.
His family has donated his brain to be studied. I think it the same university that got Bob Probert's brain too...
It's actually a much needed study, no matter how bad the media makes things look....as they could be right.

Sorry, but I'm gonna have to disagree. I hope it IS the end of fighting. I watch hockey to see guys try to put a piece of frozen rubber into a net. If I wanted that other stuff, I'd watch boxing or UFC.
Fighting isn't the only thing about hockey, but it is part of it.
It's like eliminating offsides...the game wouldn't be the same.

Blaming the refs is never an excuse.
I've bitched about calls before, but the outcome is decided by the players, not the refs.
Game 1 specifically, Ben Eager got a hooking or interference penalty that was a weak call. That's hardly a "major part" of deciding the game. I am sure the Nucks will get a weak call against them through out the series too. It's how teams respond to questionable calls that determines the outcome, not the calls themselves.

:D Bruins 6-5 win and Seguin was amazing again (2 goals, 1 assist).
Thomas needs to stop being a bit sloppy and letting in easy goals while the offense bailed him out big time. To be fair, he also had a lot of big saves as usual.

Good and bad...
Good part is the Nucks are up 2-0 going into the HP Pavillion. Even if they can take that series 1-1, they will still be up 3-1 going back to the old GM Place
Bad part is we have already seen the the worst game the Sharks are going to play this series. Nowhere to go but up for the Sharks after this one.
Nucks should enjoy the win...but be careful at the same time.
Tits > Green Men
...
Some radio host down in Tampa started bitching about the Bruins Hockey Rules signs that piss on lightning fans. By encouraging people to call the B's marketing department and call them all fags (not exaggerating) he got them taken down which is a shame, not only because he's more gutless than Marleau for his methods but they were pretty funny - regardless of where your allegiances lie.
I hope Ference's glove gets stuck again tomorrow night.

I have. The Talbot/Carcilo fight in game 6 of the Pens/Flyers series in 09, changed the game, the score was 3-0 Flyers towards the end of the period before the fight and the Pens ended up winning 5-3, instead of the Flyers forcing a game 7 like everyone thought they were going to.

Not sure why Seguin was even credited in the first place, scorer was probably buying into the Seguinista hype.
The first two games of the series were a throwback to the Montreal series as far as the defensive incompetence was concerned. Hoping tonight was a sign that Thomas is regaining the form that shut down those dirty habs and the neanderthal flyers.

They call it an "accident", but that's like shooting a arrow into the air and trying to catch it with your bare hands. No good can come of it.
I know Boogs hurt his shoulder during the fight with Carkner, so I'm guessing he was taking them for that, plus reports are, he was addicted. So many unanswered questions.

Missed today's Bruins game but the way ESPN has the report makes it sound like another instance where the Bruins start out huge and then either relax or try to be too defensive instead of continuing what made them great in the 1st period.
Tampa Bay is too strong to just let them dictate the pace and attacking which is why the series is tied at 2-2.

Finals...For hockey, Bruins would be a better match. Original 6 team in the final? Great success. I am a Nucks fan first and foremost, but if the Nucks do have to lose, I would rather it be to the B's than the Bolts. Who really wants to see a team from Florida win the cup twice in 10 years? Thats not Hockey...
Nucks vs B's? I would even say the Nucks are the underdogs in that series. Nucks vs Bolts? TB plays more to the Nucks style, except the Nucks are better. St Louis, Lecavilier, Stamkos are great, but Lucic, Chara, bring a lot more boom than the Nucks. Its going to be exciting, that's a guarantee

A lot of the Nucks success in the playoffs has been from a physical game. B's are more physical. Kesler's not going to be able to park himself in front of the net with Chara around. Maybe underdog is a bit of an overstatement, but Boston or Philly were the 2 teams out of the East I was worried about the most going into the playoffs.

Part of the reason the Nucks won the Presidents trophy is because of the division they play in. Oilers, Avs, Wild and Flames - None of them made the playoffs.
I am not trying to take any credit away from the Nucks, but if they played in Pacific or Central division, the Presidents trophy wouldn't have come as easy.

Yeah, as I said earlier, "Underdog" was probably a bit of an overstatement...But they are a team that can beat the Nucks. The Hawks gave me a bit of a scare when they took it to game 7, but going into that series, I wasn't worried about them...wasn't worried about the Predators...wasn't worried about the Sharks.

 2nd game in a row to end and then a brawl attempted. Game 7 is going to end in a massive brawl or at least have one guaranteed.
Tampa won 5-4 to send it to a Game 7.
Bruins Defense were sloppy too many times and Tampa took advantage. The worst being after making it 3-4, Bruins then messed up badly and Tampa quickly regained its 2 goal lead.

You guys might like this quiz: Can you name the highest money earning NHL players from '89 - '08?
I only got 11/20. My mind went blank during the quiz, I knew that I'd be kicking myself once the results came up. There were an easy 5 that I should have had (5th, 9th, 15th, 18th, 20th).
I"ll say though, 4th and 7th place, never, ever would have thought about them. :p

I didn't say he wasn't good. I said if his team loses, it's because of a lapse in his play. The Canucks are way too strong and Luongo can go on cold spells so if they lose, that's what happened. I do not think that will happen or that they will lose, however. Vancouver in 5.

http://www.pentictontoday.com/pictures/0/Manny%20Malhotra%20099898.jpg
Career called on account of darkness. Initially, that was the greatest fear for Canucks centre Manny Malhotra, and a horrified audience at Rogers Arena who watched him take a deflected puck square in the left eye on March 16.
The incident recalled visions of Herb Score, baseball's best young pitcher of his day, taking a line drive to the eye socket which finished, for all intent and purposes, a future Hall of Fame career.
Tony Conigliaro, the second-youngest player to hit 100 home runs, saw his chance for Cooperstown evaporate on one pitch that fractured his cheekbone, nearly blinded him, and effectively ended his usefulness as a major-leaguer.
Then there's Calder Trophy winner Bryan Berard, Malhotra's former teammate in Columbus and with the New York Rangers, who needed seven operations to his right eye after being clipped by Marian Hossa's stick and became a shadow of what he could have been.
Yet it looks as if that murky future will not come to pass for Malhotra, whose return to playing status for the Stanley Cup Final, starting Wednesday against the Boston Bruins, is not only inexpressibly fantastic but falls just slightly short of miraculous.
Malhotra appeared before a media conference Saturday at Rogers Arena, following a spirited Canucks practice, with a droopy, bloodshot eye that might still require a medical procedure once the season is over. But he has been medically cleared to play, and Canucks coach Alain Vigneault has one more face card to throw at the opposing coach, Claude Julien, in their game of high-stakes poker.
With Malhotra available, or at least having the potential to be made available, Julien has one more worry line on his forehead. If he didn't have to factor in how to counter one of the NHL's best faceoff men before, Julien does now. The ability to win ownership of the puck at critical junctures was never more amply demonstrated than in the deciding game of the Western Conference final, when Ryan Kesler beat Joe Thornton on a faceoff in the Sharks zone that led to Kesler's tying goal, overtime, and Kevin Bieksa's screwball shot that sent San Jose on its way out of the playoffs.
Even if all that Malhotra does is play a few scant minutes on the fourth line, or take a 10-second shift to win a faceoff on a penalty kill and then head to the bench, or by the mere fact that he is simply dressed and sitting at the end of the bench, the Canucks and their fans can tap into a wellspring of emotion in one of this year's best feel-good stories in sports.
Strategically, Vigneault could play Malhotra at any time he feels his team or the crowd requires a lift -say, if the Canucks trail in the series, or lose the first game, and require that extra intangible to turn the course of the series' direction.
After all, who hasn't felt the goosebumps rising when eternal underdog Rudy Ruettiger finally takes the field in the eponymous movie, with a Notre Dame football crowd chanting as one, "Rudy, Rudy, Rudy ..."
And while Malhotra's story remains to be finished, the sight of No. 27 on the ice at Rogers Arena seems almost certain to illicit a similar response from Canuck fans: "Manny, Manny, Manny ..."
At heart, we're all suckers for a tale that touches the heart, including the cynical media, which was handed a roomservice story Saturday that deflected more probing questions about the health and readiness of other Canucks for the battle ahead. At the very least, the newser bought some of Malhotra's teammates a day of grace from having to come up with a new spin on things.
Still, there was nothing contrived, tactical or artificial in the timbre of Malhotra's voice, only genuineness and poignancy as his words cracked and he fought to stifle his emotions in expressing his gratitude to those who had reached out to him.
He's been given one of life's lucky breaks -from the expectation of permanent and irreversible damage to his vision, or the possibility that he would remain nothing more than a lucky talisman or spiritual touchstone in this year's Stanley Cup playoffs. Now, he could be a valued, on-ice contributor.
"Coming to where I was on March 16 to, potentially, playing in the Cup finals ... there have been a lot of ups and downs there," he admitted. "To be able to sit in front of you guys and say there's a possibility I will play this year ... it's definitely a very uplifting feeling for myself."
Malhotra said he received encouragement throughout his ordeal from former Canuck Mattias Ohlund, now a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning, who took a puck to his right eye 12 years ago and continues to play with reduced vision. But Berard, his former teammate, was especially supportive.
"He [Berard] was a big part of my recovery ... a real friend," Malhotra said. "Through the whole period, a great deal of things were up in the air. He did a great job of settling me down."
What really moved Malhotra, though, was the outpouring of support and concern, not only from Canucks ownership, management, coaches and players, but from scores of executives, coaches and skaters around the NHL with whom he had only passing acquaintance.
"They expressed their best wishes and thoughts, just for my health," he said. "It really put things into perspective."
His injury also changed his perspective on vision protection, something Malhotra had declined to use before. He had logged 777 NHL games without a face shield.
"I realize the importance of it now," he said. "I'll wear the full face shield for the rest of this year and see what my comfort level is with different pieces of equipment."
Will his damaged eye ever be as good as new?
"I can honestly say, I'm not 20-20 in that [left] eye," Malhotra admitted. "I've never been 20-20 in that eye. But I've been cleared medically to play."
Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't. It's still a bit of a guessing game, for everybody, including the Bruins. Vigneault's played this psychological game before, and it's never wise to show what you've got in the opening gambit.

Kings, Penguins to play exhibition game in KC
By RANDY COVITZ
The Kansas City Star
On the day the NHL announced the move of the Atlanta Thrashers to Winnipeg, the league awarded Kansas City an exhibition game.
The Los Angeles Kings announced today they will meet the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sept. 27 at the Sprint Center.
The Kings are owned by AEG, which manages the Sprint Center.
Tickets for the game will go on sale on Friday at sprintcenter.com, the Sprint Center box office and charge by phone at 800-745-3000. Ticket prices start at $10 and include levels of $25, $50, $60, $75 and on-ice seats for $125 each. Discounts are available for groups of 10 or more. Group tickets are on sale now and may be purchased by calling 816-949-7177 or e-mailing grouptickets@sprintcenter.com.
Interesting to me, as KC was the rumored destination of the Pens had the Consol Energy Center not gotten built.

It is believed that the yet-to-be named team, which brings the NHL back to Winnipeg after a 15-year absence, will compete in the Southeast Division and Eastern Conference for at least a year as the league looks at possible realignment for the 2012-13 season.
If that proves to be the case, the Washington Capitals (http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/capitals) will lose one division opponent while gaining a much more distant foe, at least for the 2011-12 season.
Teams play opponents within their division a total of six times during the regular season, with the contests split evenly between home and away. Washington’s three visits to Winnipeg will require a 2,460-mile round-trip flight from Dulles International Airport. The Capitals will have the shortest distance to travel from their home city of the four remaining teams in the Southeast, though, while the Florida Panthers will have the longest journey at 3,760 miles round trip.
Capitals officials were not made available to comment on the move or the impact of possibly facing a new division opponent in a different time zone might have on the team or its schedule. “The NHL advised us to refrain from commenting,” a team spokesman said.
Coach Bruce Boudreau was asked about the possibility of road trips to Winnipeg during an interview with a Toronto’s The Fan 590 on Tuesday, however.
“Assuming they would be in our division at least another year,” Boudreau said, “I’m looking forward to seeing what the schedule looks like.”

Nashville is way more likely. Nashville is in pretty close proximity to Florida, Tampa, Carolina and Washington.
Detroit pretty much is the only American draw in the West, so they'll never move.
Detroit to the East would be terrible. Let's just kill the Chicago/Detroit & Detroit/Colorado rivalries. Nashville to the Southeast, Minnesota to the Central, Winnipeg to the Northwest makes the most sense.

Colin Campbell resigns as NHL's chief disciplinarian
Eric Duhatschek
Globe and Mail Update
The decision by Colin Campbell to step down as the NHL’s chief disciplinarian represents the first step in a long overdue overhaul of the NHL disciplinary process. Campbell will stay on as senior vice president of hockey operations, but will cede the most controversial part of his duties - determining the length and severity of suspensions, assessing fines and also letting teams know what behaviour is not subject to supplementary discipline.
Criticism goes with the territory in Campbell’s job, but he came under increased heat and scrutiny this year, in part because of a series of leaked e-mails involving his son Gregory, a forward with the Boston Bruins, that implied he was asking for favorable rulings from the rest of hockey operations. Campbell denied the charges and said he was just being a “hockey dad.”
In my view, Campbell’s integrity is unimpeachable, but eventually the optics of being the head of discipline in a league where his son had a prominent role this season became too difficult to ignore. Campbell recuses himself in any series involving Gregory and thus is at the Stanley Cup final as a spectator, leaving the disciplinary duties and video reviews to his staff - primarily Mike Murphy and Kris King.
The primary benefit of shifting duties in hockey operations is that it gives the NHL a chance to revamp the disciplinary process.
Campbell has long believed that there can be no one-size-fits-all standard of discipline because no two NHL plays are ever exactly alike - and that multiple factors, including a players’ history of reckless play, must factor into any disciplinary decision.
Others disagree - and believe the system needs to be more narrowly codified, in the same way the ordinary judicial system has a known list of penalties for anyone who breaks the law. Some modified system that lays out more specific penalties for suspendable offences is likely to emerge during the revamp process. Former NHLer Brendan Shanahan, who joined hockey operations about a year ago, is expected to play a prominent role in the new disciplinary heirarchy that may also include some input from the NHL players association.

Was over my grandparents house for most of the night but did catch the game.
The game was pretty great even though the Bruins didn't win but the biggest problem was how the Bruins were playing for OT while the Canucks wanted the win. They did great in stopping the powerful Canucks powerplay and Kessler/Sedin twins combo but also relaxed a bit too much in the 3rd when the game was too close to start relaxing.
I think at one point late in the 3rd, the Bruins had a 5-7 shot advantage overall and decided to slow down while Canucks took advantage and pelted Thomas with shots and attacks. Chara was gassed from the lack of offense bailing out the defense.

Torres scored the only goal..obviously the game winner....fucking moron. Even Schneider, sitting on his ass, ended up with better stats than the B's.

And in the playoffs, goals early/late in periods have haunted us. Double whammy tonight, which is surprising considering how they played Friday.

This isnt the only time the nucks have been up in a series.
If Hamhius is hurt, and Burrows does get suspended...lets see how well the B's do if some plugger like Glass takes a run at Thomas.
B's are a 1 man team. If Thomas does shit...the B's do shit.
That simple.
Thomas will be just fine. I'd be more apt to worry about big game bobby lou. The man literally shit himself over a team that backed into the playoffs on the final day, don't forget.
KleptoKlown
06-02-2011, 01:22 AM
I'll admit, Lou has worried me. But games 4/5 vs the Sharks...and game 1 vs the B's...Lou is in his fuckin zone. And when Lou is there..he made the Panthers looks decent.
When he is there, the Nucks are unstoppable.
KleptoKlown
06-02-2011, 01:26 AM
This happens during the regular season all the time. Lou gets hot. When Lou gets hot....it doesn't really matter what the other team does.
I know he gets cold too...and when he does...it might as well be a beach ball on the ice. If Lou stays hot for the next 3-6 games.....There is no doubt, no chance for the B's. If Lou goes cold, then we have series.

Nice excuses....
That (barely) 8th place team...defending cup champs, that would have been 6th in the East. Hawks finished better than Habs...coincidentally enough the B's were also almost defeated by. Are you really trying to compare the Hawks vs the Habs? Go watch David Wells re runs...
Canucks Vs Sharks...both teams had injuries. Depth defines teams, not excuses(which you seem to be in excess of.) Injuries are no excuse(concussions otherwise...) Look at Steve Yzerman playing on 2 bum knees...as one of many examples that players play hurt.
You skipped the Predators...they took out the Ducks. Ducks have the best line in hockey. Getzlaf Ryan and Perry...no line is better. Yet the Preds took them out. Those same Preds couldnt deal with all 4 Nucks lines.
Bruins took out the Habs. Small team.
Bruins took out the Flyers. Seeing how you like to use injuries as an excuse...Pronger was hurt. Philly has no proper #1 goalie either.
Bolts. Goalie again. Rollie is 43(?) years old. Started out as the Isles backup. Took you 7 games to beat an old man.
B's have had a way easier path to this series. Trick yourself into thinking otherwise all you want.
I never stated that the Bruins had a difficult road to the Cup. You don't think we weren't fortunate that Crosby & Malkin were out? All I was illustrating was that the Canucks weren't as "unstoppable" as would make them out to be considering the competition they've faced.
I didn't forget Nashville, they were the team with worse forwards than the Bruins.
And none of those are excuses, I don't know how you came to that conclusion.

what do you mean
Just to show (some) objectivity, last year Marc Savard was accused of biting Dan Carcillo in game one of the EC semis. Granted everyone outside of the knuckle draggers in Philadelphia is aware Carcillo is a little shit and his word doesn't hold much weight. However, Savard had previously been accused of biting & was suspended for it while he played for Atlanta so it wouldn't have been out of the question for Carcillo to be telling the truth. I don't recall anyone coming out of the woodwork for Savvy to be suspended so I think it's slightly hypocritical for B's fans to do so when they're the victim.
Granted, I am against biting as whole and I think the "what was he supposed to do" argument is a crock of bullshit. Does this look like a guy who bit a finger as a last resort?

All I am trying to say is that Burrows is definitely guilty of a unsportsmanlike act. I agree that he shouldn't be suspended but a fine seemed a no brainer. You're going to tell me what Horton did was worse than biting?
KleptoKlown
06-02-2011, 11:45 PM
Burrows did get a double minor. Fines are useless. $2500 to these guys is like taking a nickel out of your pocket.
Like I said earlier, if this were the regular season, Burrows would and should have been suspended.
In the finals, a suspension should happen if the action results in an injury.
I don't care about the amount, the fact that the league would be handing down a fine of any kind is a symbol of punishment and acknowledgment that what he did was wrong.

I'm a Canucks fan and really dig Burrows, but that biting was ridiculous. I don't want him suspended because it hurts the Canucks chances at fielding their very best line up, but had he been suspended, it would have been justifiable. He got away with one, IMO

What kind of retard takes pleasure out of serious injuries? Thank god I don't support whatever team is lucky to have you behind them.
Just so everybody's happy I will say that Bruins once again beat themselves. Sloppy play killed them because the Canucks capitalized on mistakes.
Need to really shape things up if they want to win four of the next five.
And Lapierre is the biggest cunt in the NHL. I'd probably kill myself if he played for my team, just to spare myself the shame. Or maybe I'd just follow a different team.

Lapierre is solid. He gets under the skin of opposing players(and fans apparently) He's physical, has an offensive upside, and is responsible in his own end.
He's not going to score 30 goals a year, or get 100 points, but he has 15 goal/40 points potential.
