Apparently the Titans offered Peyton a lifetime contract. He'd be under contract for as long as he wanted to continue playing, and it would extend into a front office role when he hangs 'em up if he wanted.

Ravens are losing players left and right

Jarrett Johnson, Ben Grubbs, Corey Redding, Chris Carr, Lee Evans, .a few others Im forgetting.

They are looking to Ted Ginn Jr and Eddie Royal as possible additions, more or less for kick returns. Ginn is a better returner, Royal is a better receiver, so I dont know.

The are also looking at Evan Mathis to replace Ben Grubbs, he played for the Eagles last year and was one of the highest ranked guards, not allowing a sack and was a factor in their success running the football.

Free Agwency opened with Wanny and Buddy meeting Mario at his door. He came in for dinner and a meet and greet with players. Then he spent the night. Spent all da in buffalo and flew in his MRS. Then Spent all night here. Spending the night again and will go back to the stadium in the am.

I was hoping it'd be a one night stand with Mario sneaking away after Buffalo fell asleep, and never calling again.

Do the Titans give Manning a better chance of winning a Super Bowl than the Broncos?

I didn't think the Titans would even be in the running, but on paper the teams are almost even. He'd probably have an easier time winning the division in the AFC West, but outside of Houston, he wouldn't have much to worry about in the AFC South either.

Since the start of free agency, we’ve seen the New Orleans Saints tied to linebackers Curtis Lofton, David Hawthorne, Joe Mays and Chris Chamberlain.

That has led to rampant speculation that the team will release veteran middle linebacker Jonathan Vilma.

But, citing league sources, Mike Triplett reports that the team has no plans to release Vilma. But it’s obvious the Saints are planning to do something to shake up their linebacker corps. They’re letting top reserve Jo-Lonn Dunbar test free agency. They still have veteran outside linebacker Scott Shanle, and have high hopes for second-year pro Martez Wilson. And they put a restricted tender on Jonathan Casillas.

The report the Saints don’t plan to release Vilma brings up several other scenarios. They could be expecting him to serve a suspension, because his name has surfaced with allegations that he was deeply involved in the team’s bounty program.

Even if Vilma isn’t suspended, the team might be looking to simply get deeper at linebacker. Vilma is about to turn 30, and he missed five games with a knee injury last season. The Saints could ask Vilma to take a backup role in the middle, or switch to the outside.

But, if Vilma is indeed staying, don’t be surprised if the Saints try to restructure his contract. At the moment, his cap figure is $7.6 million. The Saints have some cap issues, and they could free up $3.68 million by releasing Vilma. If they’re keeping him and bringing in other linebackers, they’ll need to clear at least some of Vilma’s cap space.

They need to keep Dunbar..

Former 49ers quarterback Steve Young emphatically backed the 49ers’ pursuit of Peyton Manning, and vice versa. Young, now an ESPN analyst, had this to say on “SportsCenter” today:
“Really smart. Trent Baalke did the research and Jim Harbaugh threw with Peyton Manning. They didn’t get on the front pages.
“They know that they’re the best answer for Peyton Manning. They know they have the best defense in the league to offer. They know they have the offensive weapons. They know they have a plan. They know they have Jim Harbaugh. They know all the things are in place for a guy like Peyton Manning.
“It is the best opportunity for Peyton Manning. They knew it and they waited until all the wannabes kind of exhausted themselves, then they came in right at the end, and that’s probably why they will land him at this point. Unless somebody does something unusual. Or maybe Peyton is looking for something different than I think.
“But I know Peyton Manning is looking for a team to join now, and win a division now, and go to a Super Bowl now. And that’s the San Francisco 49ers.”

Bills were stupid for doing it mid-season since Fitz lost all real interest to play.

At least for the Cards, the bigger problem was Kolb's guaranteed bonus more than his yearly salary. They were willing to toss Kolb had Manning made his decision earlier but the due date for the bonus got too close for them to risk out loosing both Manning and Kolb.

The longer Manning stalls, the more it hurts Flynn who was supposed to be the #1 free agent QB until the Colts dropped Manning.

Despite missing all of last season following a series of neck procedures, Manning is expected to draw significant interest from several teams (http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/54691/where-will-peyton-manning-land-2)across the league.
Just don’t expect the Ravens to be one of them.
The thought that the Ravens would go after 35-year-old Manning while they have Joe Flacco on the roster is laughable to General Manager Ozzie Newsome.
Literally.
Newsome was asked at the Combine whether the Ravens would have interest in Manning, and he couldn’t keep a straight face.
“Joe’s under contract for a year and we’ve already gone on record to say Joe Flacco will be our quarterback. If he does get hurt then we like Tyrod Taylor,” Newsome said.
The reporter then followed up with, “So no Manning?”
Newsome just laughed, and moved on to the next question.
Flacco has started every game for the Ravens since coming into the league in 2008, and won more games during his first four years than any other quarterback in NFL history. The Ravens are committed to Flacco and currently trying to work out a long-term deal with him (http://blogs.baltimoreravens.com/2012/03/07/late-for-work-37-flacco-birk-talks-about-to-enter-next-phase/)before the start of next season.

Teams that definitely didn't inquire about Manning:

Patriots

Packers

Colts

Teams that probably didn't inquire about Manning:

Falcons
Cowboys
Bengals
Bears
Eagles

So that's 14 teams out of 32 that I would confidently cross off the list. That leaves 18 mystery teams remaining for 12-16 spots. Were the Ravens one of those teams that didn't call? I dunno, Droford. You're a gambling man/addict. Would you take those odds?

Damn, my bad then.

Shit is pretty ridiculous though. My new favorite part is how when everyone found out Manning was going to Tennessee yesterday to throw yesterday they all assumed OMG TITANS ARE THE FAVORITE BECAUSE HE'S GOING TO THEM!!! when in reality he just did it because he was in the area for his anniversary, which he was spending in the Smoky Mountains

Droford
03-18-2012, 02:28 PM
Hmm. Let's speculate. Keep in mind that I haven't been following this much at all so if something was reported, correct me and I will call you a name while fixing my error.

Teams that definitely didn't inquire about Manning:

Patriots
Chargers
Steelers
Giants
Lions
Packers
Saints
Panthers

Another reason I know why they didnt bother calling is because they're only about $8 million under the cap and they still have all the draft picks to sign and a couple FA's. No way they could afford him.

I thought it was strange that Smith wasn't re-signed or testing the market like other big names. I know he has the same agent as Peyton and maybe he should consider new representation due to the conflict of interest there.

If teams are interested in backups like Flynn this year and Kolb last year based on just a few games (literally 2 in Flynn's case), you'd think Smith would be able to drive a pretty good bargain of his own based on what he did as an actual starter last year. Plus when you compare his last three seasons to those of guys who got extensions like Sanchez and Fitzpatrick, he's just as good if not better.

That being said, now that the Niners have been revealed as the "super secret third team," Smith will probably be the biggest winner in free agency. If the Niners miss out on Manning, they'll definitely be willing to overpay to bring Smith back and if Peyton goes to San Francisco, I think whoever between Miami and Seattle doesn't get the next big bust that will be Matt Flynn will be dejected and desperate enough to pay Smith big money to come there.

Emperor Smeat
03-18-2012, 04:56 PM
Miami is currently interested in Flynn and Smith right now after loosing out on the Manning Sweepstakes. David Gerrard right now is plan D for Miami in case they lose out on Flynn, Smith, and Manning.

Smith will be dropping his agent because the same agent also handles Peyton and either he felt the agent wouldn't get him the best deal or would be too busy with Manning to even try.

Doesn't look like Flynn wants Miami so probably Seattle is his best option right now. Miami wanted to sign him once Manning rejected them but he held out either to see what Manning gets for a deal or didn't like the overall quality Miami currently has.

John Clayton said yesterday there was a rumor going around that if the Broncos got Manning, the Patriots would try to trade for Tebow since Josh McDaniels was the one that drafted him and Belichick is intrigued by the idea of grooming Tebow into Brady's successor while using him in some kind of hybrid H-back role in the mean time. Kind of makes sense and could be a good fit.

Probably nothing to it, but interesting to think about.

Rather would have Mallett as the future after Brady but Tebow could work out really well as a bridge between the succession and giving Mallett more time to develop.

This all assumes Tebow doesn't become a pure passer and Mallett's potential stays on track to be a potential Brady-like QB.

They won't keep Tim because for whatever reason they don't realize that calls to START TEBOW stop when there's actually a good QB in front of him. Orton and Quinn aren't that far either way from Tebow's level so OF COURSE people we're calling for him. No one will be saying a damn thing when Manning is consistently tossing TDs, throwing for 300+ yards and NOT bouncing passes into receivers ankles like Orton did

Miami probably will lose out on him as well but I could see Tebow potentially going to the Dolphins if Denver gets rid of him.

They already have a Wildcat-like offense in place which would help him for the short term although the biggest drawback is everyone else in the division already broke Miami's Wildcat so it won't have a huge impact like it did last year for Denver.

Not really. Williams and brown, their Wildcat backs left before last year, and they didnt really run any Wildcat plays with Bush and Thomas.

Add in the fact they just added a whole new coaching staff and system, and Im not sure your assessment holds any water.

Free agency is stupid for the most part. Every once in a while you get a Drew Brees to New Orleans deal, or a situation like Terrell Owens/Randy Moss/Steve Hutchinson to Philadelphia/New England/Seattle where a team had everything thing else together, along perhaps with a few other subtle things, but what you usually end up with are the same over-hyped rosters. Peyton Manning to Denver could be a game changer (ie Denver losing in the AFC Championship game), but I doubt Buffalo, for example, is really that much better off with Mario Williams. More often than not it's downhill once a player goes to a new team, especially if they're veterans that have been in the league a few years. It mostly affects the teams that lose players, or makes a mediocre team slightly above average because they signed Matt Schaub.

Kicker/punter/special teams tends to be the exception I guess, although even that is hit or miss.

The Bucs are improving, and Id assume the chiefs healthy will be at least .500. Facing 7 of the 12 playoff teams from the previous year can't be easy.

A lot of good will come from this. You'll never see me cheer for a Bronco again. You'll never see me hate another team harder then I will hate the Broncos.

Vegas odds makers went from 50:1 to 10:1 for the Broncos to make the SuperBowl..

Wanted to check out the list of teams and surprisingly Denver is ranked #2 in the AFC in terms of odds.

Seems a bit too high especially when there is going to be concerns about the first hit Peyton takes.

They should be the favorites to win their division but can't see them as the #2 team in the AFC right now (Pats are #1 based on odds). Maybe 4th or potentially 5th depending on how the Texans play without Williams.

calm down Skip Bayless

 that's a good one.

Seriously, I hate to hear Elway sit up there and fellate Tebow like he's hurting to dump the kid. I would rather him be the cold businessman and just say we didnt want to win his way, we'd rather win MY way.

I'm almost over Peyton snubbing us, but damn. Sure seems like a dumb decision on his part, no matter how much I think about it. I know control was part of it, but jesus. He was almost guaranteed a playoff run every year.

I think he wants the best chance for a ring before being forced to retire from one good defensive headhunt.

Also, not really sure if I would have been as excited as I should have been if Manning settled on San Fran. Defense needs a little more tweaking for someone with a suspect injury.

I say good for him going to Denver, but I stand by my words from before: as long as Tebow doesn't end up in a '9ers or a Browns uniform I'll be happy with this.

Hate these stories about Alex Smith's pride being hurt because SF went after Peyton. The only reason we went after Peyton is because Smith wouldn't sign the deal that was offered him like a week and a half beforehand. This is Alex's fault.

this is the guy you're bringing in to win a championship? :nono:

Like Tebow was going to do that anyways? Fuck your daft. Tebow IS a shit NFL Quarterback. Nobody will want him unless it's as a back up/trick QB in the Wildcat/Runningback.

Broncos made it to the playoffs because of the Defense and Willis McGahee haven't a career revitalizing year. Tebow just sucked bad enough to make it a close call to make the playoffs.

Tebow Sucks. He shouldn't have even been a first round Draft pick either.

If you're mad cause you're a Colts fan. Get over it. The Colts cut him. Be mad at the Colts not Peyton or the Broncos.

I'll always have a small spot in my heart for tebow just for that, even if it was more Thomas' effort on the play for the TD...

For starters, I cannot mention enough that I am a Bengals fan, always have been. You cant help who you love. However ironic this fact may now seem, I'd Place a premium on quarterbacks who win fucking playoff games. This down syndrome having faggot cant do that. Losing record in the playoffs, extremely high turnover ratio in championship games. No matter how much you wanna dress up Peyton manning, the fact remains that he is NOT clutch in the playoffs.

And Tebow has a higher playoff winning percentage than peyton manning, he has as many game winning drives in the playoffs as Peyton, but the kid is shit(didn't he beat the number one defense that game?)

Enjoy having Peyton manning, his 5,000 yards, his 13-3 record, his 30 TD's all season. But beware, when December comes he'll disappear, they will lose in the divisional round and who will you blame then?

If you're the Jags or the Dolphins why not take Tebow? Especially if he's going for as cheap as a day 2 draft pick? They're bottom dwellers anyway and it's not like the quarterbacks they have under contract are going to be franchise cornerstones. They're playing for Matt Barkley anyways.

Tebow's got three years left on his deal. Worst case scenario, they sign him, make some money from ticket/jersey sales, he bombs those first two years, people jump off the bandwagon and said team ends up with high draft picks OR he does somehow turn the team around, and if he does that, maybe they should consider sticking with Tebow and the Spread offense.

Emperor Smeat

Peyton pushed for a special "neck injury" clause in his contract which helped pushed the amount to $96 million since each season he has to do a neck exam with $20 million per year guaranteed if he passes each year except the last 2 years. He can fail a regular physical for the first 3 years but the money will still be guaranteed until the final 2 years.

Denver also considering keeping Tebow but now you can include the Jets, Packers, Jags, and Dolphins to the list of teams who have shown some interest in a trade.

I'm a Patriot fan. So, I hope they do lose in the divisional round. I really don't care either way unless Tebow signs with us to carry Brady's towel.

I wish nothing but bad will on all teams not the Patriots, but Peyton Manning has the chance to make the Broncos a better team.

You refer to game winning drives, but what you meant was game ending winning drives. A winning drive is simply the drive where you score the points that win you the game. Also a Good QB doesn't get into that many game-ending drive opportunities cause he wins outright before the 3rd quarter is over. Of course i know I'm spoiled from having such an amazing QB, but whatever.

It's funny reading that because damn near half of John Elway's wins were game-ending drives.

May as well add Peyton too. He is 2nd all time in regular season comebacks and game ending drives. Dan Marino has the most. Bret Favre, Joe Montana and Tom Brady are also in the top 10 for game ending drives.

So much for that theory.

The great Trent Dilfer is 81st in game ending drives in case anyone is curious, but that's because he ended the game before it even began just by showing up and putting on his jockstrap.

You are fortunate to have a great QB in Tom Brady. You and I are getting tangled in a matter of semantics. The sentiment is the same: manning doesn't get the job done in the playoffs(when it counts)
