Please be Gilbride

Most of the beat writers seem to be under the impression that all of the coordinators are safe. Coughlin is known as a loyal man who does not like to fire his coordinators. Only 3 have been fired during Coughlin's 10 season Giants run, and all of them seemed to have specific reasoning behind it beyond just "they sucked". John Hufnagel who the players hated, Tim Lewis because they had Spagnuolo specifically targeted for the job, and Bill Sheridan because the owners basically forced him to.

From what I've read, after his 2nd Super Bowl win he's basically given free reign as to who he keeps on his staff. I can't see ownership forcing him to fire Gilbride, as much as I'd like him to. Ditto for Tom Quinn despite the team's historically bad special teams play.

Either the Titans take their chance with Locker next season and hope he's healthy and build around him, or take their chances in the draft again.

No reason to go after Cutler since he himself can't stay healthy.

Yeah, the defense is good to an extent, it's the offense needing some serious work as usual

How good are you at calling the plays that the Giants call? I know immediately when there is a draw, screen, or cutback run to the weakside WHEN THERE IS AN EXTRA LINEMAN ON THE OTHER FUCKING SIDE

Perhaps he is saying that because he, like the rest of the football world outside of ninerland, know that there is no way in any stretch of the imagination that the Hawks will have to win a playoff game in San Fran this year.

The message that they needed to sent was sent when they throttled San Fran in Seattle earlier.

I love when retards make up these completely stupid narratives with no factual basis to them.

Manning is as much a choker as Brady or Brees or any other elite QB who Flacco or Eli couldn't dream of being half as good as.

no, I mean Peyton Manning throws a game ending Pick Six against new Orleans in the Superbowl. Or a game clinching Interception against Baltimore last year in the playoffs.

Or how he would throw 3 interceptions every time he'd play in an AFC Championship. Or how he has a losing playoff record (9-11). yeah idiots who ignore statistical and historical facts make me fucking sick.

Let us also not forget the poor play calling that couldn't convert a 2nd and 1, or a 3rd and 1, and quit throwing the ball late in the game and that Denver defense that allowed Baltimore's offense to score 38 points.

That same pourous Denver defense that will most likely be the reason Peyton has to try to do too much and ends up throwing said interception so this narrative continues another year.

MetLlife Stadium announces tailgating won't be allowed for the upcoming Super Bowl at their location. The official reason is due to safety issues since they don't want the parking lot to be crowded with parties when that space is going to be needed for all the busing and transportation that will be occurring.

When you blame the QB for every loss and and only respect the fact that he had a team around him when he wins, it's easy to call any QB a choke artist. Peyton Manning is easily one of the greatest QBs of all time. Switch teams/coaches with him and Brady and Brady is the "choker" of the two.

You ignore this fact that you DID call him a choke artist despite his Super Bowl ring and AFC Championship victories. He has won EVERY GAME THERE IS FOR HIM TO WIN IN A SEASON!!! He has broken every record a man playing his position can break PLUS he has contributed to his team reaching the ultimate team goal. Yet you will continue to shit on him because you have already decided that you will shit on him regardless.

Seriously, though... I remember before Peyton won a championship, the knock on him was "Yeah, he's STATISTICALLY one of the greatest of all time but he hasn't won a championship." Then he won a championship. On top of being statistically THE greatest of all time. And then people said "Yeah, but still..."

JESUS FUCKING CHRIST! lol He has broken every individual record AND taken his team the distance and people still shit on him. It's the most glaring example of some football fans desperately needing to hate players regardless of what they accomplish.

I acknowledge that you, and a lot of people value the accumulation of yards, statistics, and records over the course of a career. In that regard Peyton Manning is amazing. During the Season, he is spectacular and damn near unbeatable.

You have to acknowledge that I and a lot of people measure a quarterback (who gets all the credit for a win and all the blame for a loss) in wins, losses, and championships.

In this regard, Peyton has a lot of regular seasons wins, and very few losses. IN THE PLAYOFFS, HE HAS MORE LOSSES THAN WINS, AND HE HAS ONLY ONE CHAMPIONSHIP.

The statistics you are so willing to suck Peyton's dick for will be eclipsed by somebody one day. When these passing records erode, history will only remember one thing: Super Bowl championships. Can you tell me how many touchdowns Terry Bradshaw threw for in the 70's? Probably not. Can you tell me how many Superbowl championships he has?

Yeah, I'm sure you can.

I don't ever agree with Krimzon but I'm on board here. Peyton Manning is an incredible regular season QB but he can never be compared to guys like Montana who were lights out when it mattered most. You can cite all of the stats, numbers, and plays that you want but it still remains that he makes quite a few boneheaded plays when the game is on the line and it costs his team championships. He's still one of the best players of our generation as a regular season competitor, but he doesn't win when it matters.

When comparing the amount of season wins he has to playoff wins, it is a bit off. Fairly disproportionate. He is a much better player than how he plays in the playoffs and there has to be a reason for it. He just isn't a clutch player for the most part when it matters. We will see what happens in January but I have a feeling they aren't going to the Superbowl, despite this immense season.

Nobody is saying he is an awful player. That isn't the argument. He's incredible when it doesn't matter. He just isn't a very clutch player in the playoffs when compared to how great he is in the regular season. And yes. He has a championship. I understand that. But the numbers from season wins to playoff wins are pretty disproportionate.

Really hope Niners get the chance to walk into Seattle again in January. I don't think it is out of the realm of possibility to hand them an upset at the CLink. Look what the Bucs almost did awhile back. Our offense is getting stronger and stronger every week as we readjust to having everybody back in play again. "Nobody can beat the Hawks in Seattle" seems to be being built as some infallible legend or something but I don't think it is as impossible as ESPN is billing it to be. That seems to be their newest jackoff material lately. I hope we get the chance to break their spirits yet again.

This is how it always is because football people are only allowed to think in absolutes. Whenever someone spots a trend in football someone always pops up with the argument that this trend is guaranteed to continue in the same way forever even though history shows that's a really stupid opinion to have.

Exactly. He's phenomenal in the regular season. When he hits the playoffs and is playing THE best teams in the league as opposed to two games against the Raiders and whatever shitty to middle of the pack teams are on the schedule, naturally his dominance declines. Sometimes he throws for 5 touchdowns and plays flawlessly in a playoff game and helps lead his team to victory. Sometimes he has a shitty game against a good team like he has at times in the regular season and loses. And sometimes... HE WINS CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES.

It may not even matter. I'm not even sure the Broncos would make it to the AFC Title game. It's not a "LOLZ PEYTON SUCKS IN THE COLD" thing, more like I don't trust the defense whatsoever.

And since you never know how the Pats will play without Gronk - who knows. Can't remember the last time the top 2 seeds in a conference went one and done. Doesn't happen often certainly, but if were going to happen these are the kind of circumstances you'd need.

I don't think Manning is too jelly right now, if he is then they will have to send him to Jelly School, but I'm pretty sure he ain't jel right naw.

Good to correct mistakes like last night than wait until exposure in the first playoff game.

The Bengals have a very real shot at a First Round Bye. If New England stumbles JUST ONCE... Shit...we are in solid position for number one seed. We have the head to head over New England....and we're 3-1 while Denver is 2-3 versus Common Opponents.

One more slip up by Denver, and the Last two weeks could mean a First Round Bye.

Eli has openly praised Gilbride's system along with Coughlin. If the Giants hadn't won a second Super Bowl under Coughlin, I could see Mara or Tisch stepping in as they did when Bill Sheridan got fired. But after 2 Super Bowls I think they're giving Coughlin full autonomy with his coaching staff.

I hope I'm wrong, of course. I think Gilbride is absolutely horrendous. But I think they try to revamp the line, get a new WR to plug into the 3rd spot with Randle getting bumped to #2, and they keep stupid ass Gilbride. Coughlin isn't on the hot seat 2 years removed from a Super Bowl and like it or not Eli will be their QB for another 4 or 5 years probably. Management will keep the coaches those guys are happiest with.

Baring a serious injury, was inevitable once he started to get really close to it. KC being really competitive in the division meant he wasn't going to get the same type of rest Brady got in 07.

What rest did Brady get in 07? Didn't he play just about every play of every game just like Manning?

Emperor Smeat

Had several games around mid to late in the season where he barely played in the 4th quarter. The division itself was practically over by the middle of the season.

If he didn't play, it was mostly just to hand the ball off in a blowout though so it's not like it was cutting into his chances to extend the record. Cassel only threw 7 passes all year.

I wonder if Philly is gonna rest their starters tonight now. It's a "meaningless" game in a way but then again, a win means they're the 3rd seed if they win the division and a loss means their the 4th seed. That could be the difference between having to play in Seattle on a weeks rest and avoiding them.

Innovator
12-22-2013, 06:14 PM
I wouldn't rest the players, over the past couple years it rarely works out and the team comes out sluggish next game not getting their work in.

How the Steelers still have a mathematical chance at the 6 seed next week shows no one actually wants to be the 6th Seed lol. If only could have beat like an Oakland or Minnesota or Tennessee or not stepped out of bounds going in for TD against Miami. Any of those would have happened. My Gawd.

Yeah, this is the first time I can ever remember there being a situation where there's a spot up for grabs and no one is in a "win and you're in" situation for it.

Baltimore needs: A win and a Mia loss OR a Pit, SD and Miami loss

Miami needs: A win and a Bal loss OR a win and SD win

San Diego needs: A win and a Bal and Mia loss

Pittsburgh needs: A win and a Bal, Mia and SD loss

I'm thinking it's gonna be Baltimore.

SlickyTrickyDamon
12-22-2013, 09:57 PM
Miami and Pittsburg have the easiest opponents (Jets and Browns.)

I think the Dolphins have the best chance because the Ravens are facing a tough opponent in Cincy who will want to take out their division thorn and Super Bowl Champion of last year.

Jesus. It is still possible for the 9ers to take the west. 9ers would have to beat the Falcons and the Cardinals and the Seahawks would have to lose to the Rams next week. It's looking unlikely but if the Cards took it to the Seachickens at home, the Rams definitely have at least a shot.

Last year on Thanksgiving Detroit challenged a play that was already automatically reviewed and was penalized by the play no longer being eligible for review. I'm wondering why Philly wasn't penalized the same way.

Fucking convoluted NFL rules.

Did a quick Google search and yeup it was among the changes done for this season.

Coaches tossing red flags no longer make automatic challenges become un-reviewable nor cause a penalty, refs just ignore the red flags if its thrown.

Not one of the quartet in the hunt fully controls its own destiny — a bizarre twist added by the NFL’s tiebreaker scenarios. Miami currently holds the edge on Baltimore because San Diego, a winner Sunday, created a three-team tie at 8-7. In that scenario, the Ravens’ win over Miami is canceled out by Miami’s win over San Diego, pushing the conference-record tiebreaker to the forefront. The Dolphins hold that edge on both the Ravens and Chargers.

That aforementioned three-team tiebreaker? Baltimore needs to break it in Week 17 to pull back into the No. 6 seed. The Ravens have to do that by winning, first of all, and then getting the Dolphins or Chargers to trip up. Head-to-head, Baltimore would hold the tiebreaker edge on either of those teams. In a three-team jumble where all three teams have the same record, the Ravens would miss out.

Oh, right. I'm sorry, I didn't know that you didn't understand how the NFL would market this game if it was flexed.

The sentence is a LEAD. A Lead is a group of words containing a subject, verb and a predicate that is intended to generate enough interest in a story to encourage a person to further investigate(by tuning in or reading further).

I don't know. If I said "The Steelers Browns game next week is gonna be for the 6 seed!" (which I wouldn't... because it just doesn't make sense to say.) and then someone questioned me, I'd probably explain "I mean if San Diego, Baltimore and Miami loses, it would be for the 6th seed." and that would be that. As opposed to trying this pissy, ridiculous "How do you not understand that I was just saying it the way the NFL would say it if it were flexed!" as if it's their fault for not building this ridiculous loophole where that isn't a wrong statement. BUT THAT'S JUST ME.

Here's the actual playoff scenarios for next week though.

Arizona has a good shot at ending up 11-5 and being 3rd in their division and missing the playoffs. Just shows how lopsided the NFC divisions are.

Correct. Because Baltimore beat Miami, they would be the 6 seed if the two teams finish with the same record.

Miami takes it with a three-way tie, though, because of their conference record.
