Man U appeal for Scholes (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/3509111.stm)

See its because Man U appeal against something as blatant as Scholes putting a forearm in someone's face that does them no favours.

They should just accept their punishment sometimes - they get away with more than most (more specifically Fergie).

Dazz was almost right with his prediction,1 goal off but the man sent off was correct.

Yeah, if we didn't have Gudjohnsen sent off, it would have been a much better last half hour. I don't think it was a sending off, the second one wasn't a bookable offence.

But, after going to the match, I have come to this conclusion:

Arsenal and Manchester United have the joint worst home fans in the Premiership.

Arsenal have the worst away support in th premiership  , seriously, I have seen teams get hammered at the Bridge and still sing, Arsenal were winning for 70 minutes and sung for like 30 seconds when we encouraged them too. :|. Worst fans ever.

Ranieri needs to stop subbing Mutu, Kimmy played well, but why take off Mutu, he messed up once all game. Same with Geremi, the one game we plays well he gets subbed. :wtf:.

Jens Lehmenn is the funniest keeper in the Premiership, he does army rolls in his goalmouth before the second half starts. He is always pissed off and tries to start fights, and him saying he is better then Kahn and Beckenbauers response amused me.

Man it feels good to be a Gooner today

Gudjohnsen should have been sent off, that foul was nasty when they showed it on TV, he's lucky he didn't injure the lad.

I would disagree....right now, Liverpool have the worst home and away fans in the league. You know something's wrong when Liverpool play to a symphony of silence

when Liverpool came to Fratton Park they brough LOADS of banners with them, and a Croatian flag :wtf: and took up the entire away end. They didnt make much noise but to be fair they were 1-0 after 2 minutes with a former player scoring :o Also apparently the fans were all really nice and were like the first set of fans to go drinking in pubs after the match with the Pompey fans since Sunderland last visited when they were in div 1...

Ive said for ages Arsenal fans are poor. Its a joke and i would feel embarrassed if my club did that "fans day" thing where they handed out song sheets and encouraged the fans to wear red :| If my team was top of the premiership and 7 points clear, i wouldn't need any extra encouragement to sing.

To be fair to Man U, they supposedly have very good travelling fans. I haven't seen them myself yet so ill have to wait and see.

oh, also we have ANOTHER striker injured. Who didnt see that coming? :|

Rob
02-22-2004, 08:17 AM
Man U travelling fans are good. Unfortunately, half of them can't get tickets for Old Trafford because people from Japan and wherever else get them instead. Fans can't sing because they don't know english!

Arsenal's are definately the worst.

Yeah seriously Izzet used to be good but recently I would say he's barely even good enough for the premiership. I think it said alot when he went down, got transfer listed and no-one came in for him.

Wengerland
02-23-2004, 11:36 AM
Middlesborough and Villa wanted him at the time(relegation) and then Blackburn came in with a bid, whilst Villa enquired about him in the transfer window.Seeing as they are all sides with European aspirations i think that says a fair bit, aswell as the fact that he's got about 12 assists this season.

I'm sure at least 13 managers would have him and as he's out of contract in the summer i'll guarantee he'll still be playing in the premiership next season, with Leicester or not.I'm not saying he's good enough for the top 5 or 6 clubs but the others would have him.

It does show the gulf in class though,Izzet/Brown/Merson were probably the 3 best players in division 1 last year but they're no better than average in the premiership.

For me,having him out for 6 weeks is like Newcastle without Shearer for the same amount, baring in mind Bellamy has only just returned i think they would struggle too.

packt up
02-23-2004, 02:21 PM
Yeah I pretty much agree - though I doubt the European aspirations of the teams you mentioned. Boro Villa and Blackburn are hardly pushing down the door to Europe in my opinion though looking at the table Villa are 7th :o - shows how close the "best of the rest" is this season I guess.

No way would the top 5 go for him :y:

I have to admit you'll know more about his significance to Leicester than I ever will and if you say he's as important as Shearer I ain't gonna argue :P

PS Shearer is better ;)

Can't say i rate Junior Lewis sadly,no.

When we first signed him because i had never heard of him and we got him from Gillingham i was kinda thinking that he was a good prospect and i sort of guessed that with a name like that he would be a small, quick player like Juninho or something, but obviously not as he's about exactly the opposite of that.

He didn't play very often at all under Micky, though i seem to remember him scoring once last season but hasn't figured at all this campaign.I think he did play quite regularly under Taylor here because after checking the squad list he's made 28 starts for us since joining.Mainly featured in the reserves but i certainly don't think he's premiership quality, but he is very tall and that could be a helping factor for Hull and available on a free in the summer (Taylor actually gave him £9,000 a week wages here so we could do with that off the bill),but seeing as Marshall,Lewis,Delaney all went from Leicester under Taylor to Hull under him i think he could do well for Third and maybe Second Division football.

Rob
02-28-2004, 01:08 PM
It will be out of reach in two games. I know United so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt but you have to be realistic. I say two games because if the gap is closed, both Chelsea and Man U have to play Arsenal and that could blow it wide open. If it's 9 points still by then, Arsenal would need to lose both and that's some challenge.

Honestly, what the hell is Ferguson playing at, if you are 7 points behind the leaders at this stage in the season, you really should'nt be resting vital players. I understand that playing in europe takes a toll but for the wage these players get, i would play like four games a week and not complain. You would think Fergie would learn as this is like the third/forth time that resting players against so called "weaker" sides has blown up in his face.

Alex Ferguson is a fantastic manager and will forever be a legend within the english game but maybe, just maybe its time for a new face in the hotseat at United

With that said, I would like to point out that I am IN NO WAY ruling United out of the title race, doing that would just be foolish

Exactly.

Real Madrid would lose millions in merchandise revenue, as well as a player who is quite possibly playing the best football of his life right now.

Its gotta be something unbelivably stupid, like, 60-70 million to sign him, which if you think about it, is possible, because that would wipe Madrid's debts

Yeah my dad told me that his 'source' told him in December we made a bid for Beckham, and Becks is unhappy in Spain because of Mrs Becks not wanting to go there. Back then my dad's source said that we were meant to be trying really hard to get him, and he was meant to be interested in coming to us, and was reportidly in Lazio to see us beat them 4-0.

Now, thats why I haven't said anything about it, because, Becks was playing for Real Madrid the night we beat Lazio, so he couldn't have been there. So I assumed the whole thing was BS, maybe not though.

Great game today between Liverpool and Leeds, was glad to see Viduka get on the score sheet. He's been the subject of public arguements (club v Country) recently and he deserved the goal today, him and Smith are working like troopers to try and keep the club up so good on them for the point today.

I've gotta agree, Ronaldo has started to ditch his "tricks" and become more of an out and out winger, he's got some real pace (even if he runs like a ponce) and if he learns to put the ball into the box, rather than mess around with it, he can be a great asset

He'll never be a Beckham though

The Mask
03-01-2004, 09:10 AM
no no, he needs to keep the tricks. he does great with them half the time, and it's great to watch. It's just his crossing and finishing looks a bit suspect to me, he never gets much of a swerve or height on it, if he can do that and keep the tricks, but learn to pass at the right moment, he's gonna be one of the best players in the world.

Razor Rybek
03-01-2004, 09:30 AM
Ronaldo also needs to learn when to drop and when to stay on his feet, certain instances call for a little dive here and there but he seems hit the deck far too much. Other than that he's class.

It's what United always do, they try and unsettle players so that the club have to sell the player to them, and they thought that by bidding high, and being able to speak to Robben, that they would then be able to bid low, once Robben has his heart set on them, hoping that Robben would get annoyed if PSV didn't sell him, and then get pissed off at PSV, which would force them to sell him.

By george I've cracked it.

Rob
03-02-2004, 06:06 PM
It happened to be down to Peter Kanyon's involvement at Man United. As much as I don't like him now, to be fair, he did change the ways at Old Trafford in terms of spending money. He agreed a deal in region of 15 million for Robben to sign for us in the summer of 2004 and when he left, the deal went the sh</>it. The board, being the cheap fu</>ckers they are, then tried to do a cheaper deal and it went pair shape.

It's also similar to why we didn't sign Ronaldinho. Kenyon had a deal agreed at £24 million and then the board told him to go back to PSG and say he could only spend £21 million. He refused so the deal died and he went to Barcelona.

I wish we had Robben though.

Cactus Sid

You want the best players then you have to pay for them.

Which the United board don't want to do at the moment

I think United are gonna have the problem where every player they are after, another team will want, and these teams are willing to pay big money for them. If United wanna get back on a par with Arsenal they are gonna have to buy 2 or 3 decent defenders, a replacement for Beckham, another top quality midfielder, and a world class forward, Saha's good, but they need a Trezeguet or a Shevchenko, particularly if they wanna win the Champions League again

Mr. Monday Morning
03-02-2004, 06:44 PM
^^ Yep

You *do* have to pay for them, United aren't doing that right now. Their standing in the game is slipping somewhat or at least isn't as good/strong as they seem to think it is, they have to realise they can't get a player just because they're interested in them.

Last I heard Ken Bates was supposedly looking into buying into Sheffield Wednesday...I dunno how much I'd believe it, I guess he might want to get back into a position of power somewhere but then again he's a businessman, and this deal has made him an absolute fortune. I wouldn't blame him if he retired.

Rob
03-02-2004, 06:50 PM

I'm not shocked at all. In ICT, we're doing this project, I won't bore you with the details, but we started it two months ago. Mines on Chelsea, and I put Bates in the 'old boys' section, not the 'current' one, because it was clear he wasn't going to put up with all the bullshit.

I called it from the start, in the thread I made when Batesy sold the club. Abramovich said Batesy was still in charge, but as soon as it stopped suiting him, he sorted that out, it was inevitable that he'd force Batesy out. I said that all along.

And we could have got another buyer, or sold of dickheads like Hasselbaink. There were other solutions, and I would rather inistrators sorted us out, then Abramovich did. He is a dodgy cunt, he has three peope on the board who know fu</>ck all about sport. This is what the PSV president had to say about the Robben deal, lifted from football365.com

``I was very disappointed with Manchester United over the deal, whereas Chelsea were very different,'' van Raaij told The Sun.

``With their chief executive Peter Kenyon, a deal really is a deal. I have always been able to do good business with him.

``That was the case with Jaap Stam and Ruud van Nistelrooy's transfers [to United when Kenyon was chief executive there] and also recently with Robben when Manchester United wanted to sign him.

``Kenyon is trustworthy and a man of honour. He does not go back on his word but that is something United have now done.

``They obviously believe their name is enough to attract players and make them sign. After learning of our financial problems, they halved the offer. They did not keep to their original offer - they let us down.

``But Kenyon was honest throughout and I was very impressed.''

If that is true it's a pretty shady business method they've got going there...I guess I can see *why* they would but wouldn't it be obvious they'd just piss PSV off by doing that?

I think the reason people are talking about United is because clearly they are not the team they were.

Today Man U were officially named the Richest club in the world, way ahead of the next richest (Juventus) and yet they are going backwards on the pitch. They are not getting the results like they do a couple of seasons ago. They are struggling at times, and they are getting poor results against sides they should be beating comfortably. Also, when did United ever have to rely heavily on one man in the last few years before Van Nistelrooy arrived? Then they played as a team, and everyone played for each other. If United didn't have Van Nistelrooy, who as much as I hated to admit it is one of the top strikers in terms of his positioning and eye for goal (in the box), they would be in trouble.

From an interview with Jaap Stam:

Are there lessons to be learned after what happened at Lazio? Even the president is in jail now...

"It is so simple to pour millions and millions into a club. As long as you have enough money, every player in Europe can be brought in, but look at us now. The lessons we have learnt are harsh and the reality of our situation is driven home every day."

Is there a danger that Chelsea could go the way of Lazio?

"I look at Chelsea and I know what they are doing. They keep buying all the big names. There will be some success. They will win something. Exactly the same thing happened at Lazio. But look where this club is now. Here, in Roma, they operated no different from the Chelsea owners. But right now we are in a major financial crisis.

"The biggest problem for a club like Chelsea is that, because of all the money spent on the transfer market, the expectations are incredibly big. And when the time comes when there is not enough money to pay everyone, people will still have huge expectations.

"Even at Lazio, with most of our big names gone again, nobody says: 'Listen, we have to cut back, we are facing a few tough seasons ahead'. The whole world is still expecting miracles."

The former Glasgow Rangers and Everton manager has been out of the game since his sacking at Goodison Park, and his appointment at the champions comes as something of a surprise.

Sir Alex has been without a right-hand man since Carlos Queiroz quit to manage Real Madrid in the summer, and the Reds boss is delighted to offer Smith a the chance to succeed the Portuguese man.

“I am delighted that Walter has accepted the chance to join United,” said Ferguson. "There are few people in the game with his experience, knowledge and technical ability. His talent and background will be major assets at such a critical time of the season."

Smith has been handed the role until the end of the season, and follows previous number two’s at Old Trafford under the Ferguson regime such as Brian Kidd and Steve McClaren.

“The chance to come to Manchester United is something I couldn't turn down,” said Smith. “There are few bigger challenges in football than helping a successful side sustain their achievements. I have huge admiration for what Sir Alex has achieved at United and I'm excited to be part of it."

Christophe Dugarry has left Birmingham City by mutual consent after a season blighted by a recurring knee injury.

Dugarry signed a permanent deal at St Andrews last summer but his family struggled to settle in England.

"Frankly I was living on my own in the past six months because my family did not like living in England," Dugarry told L'Equipe newspaper.

"Since the club have nothing to fear nor to hope for anymore we agreed to part company on good terms." The 31-year-old World Cup winner initially joined Birmingham on loan from Bordeaux in January 2003 and was instrumental in Birmingham preserving their Premiership status
But he has struggled with a knee injury throughout the current campaign and scored just one goal in 12 Premiership starts.

His last start came against Aston Villa, but Dugarry limped out of the match with a recurrence of the injury and returned to France to recuperate.

Birmingham manager Steve Bruce admitted that leaving St Andrews was the best option for the French striker, who still had 16 months left to run on his contract.

"Christophe's recent problems have been well documented with his family finding it hard to settle in the area and his niggling knee injury," Bruce told the club's official website.

"In the end we decided that a parting of the ways would be best for both parties.

"I would like to wish him all the very best for the future."

Dugarry, who has played for Bordeaux, Barcelona, Milan and Marseille, is hopeful of finding a new club.

"I am still very fit but I don't know where I will be playing next season," he added. "All I know is that I will ask my family first before making my decision."

Yeah, to be fair, I don't think there was much O'Brian could have done about it, it was one of those awkward ones where if he left it, an attacker would have knocked it in, so he had to do something, but hitting it to the bottom left, what a finish.

Yeah, it's not good for England with the Euro Championships coming up.

Mainly Wolves out of the two to sort of disobey(couldn't think of a better phrase :() the rule about bottom at Christmas goes down. Also for the Midlands, with West Brom coming up seemingly then it will be good for the area.

I think either Wolves or Leicester will stay up.
Portsmouth will go down for the soul reason that Berger is injured. he has been by far been their lynchpin this season.
Leeds have the players to do it but i think they're too demoralised to get out of the bottom three.

Quinton Fortune could be out for up to a year after undergoing knee surgery caused by a training ground accident

Wengerland
03-16-2004, 09:45 AM
Yeah i saw that about old Quinton. It's a tough break for him seeing as he was just about establishing himself as a regular first team left back.

On the relegation i think Wolves have to hope that not many teams around them pick up points by the end of the month,i can't see them getting anything from Liverpool or Chelsea.

Mr. Monday Morning
03-16-2004, 09:47 AM
Oh will you shut up  :'(

We've got 5 home games left, we're capable of winning all of them (then again we were capable of beating Villa until 2 days ago :| ) - away games are a different story though, 3 of the 5 we have left are against Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle. If we don't get anything from the other two I think we're screwed.

Portsmouth, Wolves and Leeds but ive got a feeling Leicester will only stay up by about 2 points, which means i can just go on a rant about "oh if Pires hadn't dived we wouldn't have gone down, its all his fault. Stupid cheating Arsenal." to make me feel better :shifty:

But yeah, i think those 3 will go down and im not really that bothered anymore to be honest, the premiership has been a bit disapointing after what it was hyped up to be :o I can honestly say, if we go down, the only thing im going to miss is Patrik Berger and probably the other class players we're going to have to sell/release because he is an absolute class act.
