Wow, this looks so freaking HOTTTTTTT.
I loved the Season mode in SvR, but the Season in HCTP was far better, I think. I hope they really improve on that. More storylines and such. It seemed like every single time you started out NOT being the champion, someone comes up to you in the locker room, says they asked for you as a partner, and you can respond accordingly.
This looks great, and I'm sure they won't drop the ball (Neither will DoR 2, I bet.), but just in the event of the SMALL chance they do, think of it this way: It can NOT be any worse than Wrestlemania on Xbox.

No, I read that in HCTP there was supposedly going to be a system where you made your CAW and once you saved them to your memory card you got a password. You would then give the password to people you knew who would then type it in on there game then the computer would build the CAW automatically without having to do the pain staking formulas.
So yeah, instead of using a formula to make a CAW you would input a password.Basically.
Oooohhhhh... now that would kick ass. I would love that feature. As it is right now, I'm going through various sites finding the best CAWs that aren't in SVR and adding them into the game. No matter what, I always screw something up. Thing is, lots of CAWs now require hair hacks where you have more than one hair layer.
And that's another thing. All these hacks that we need to do to ultra-customize our CAWs in SVR, they should be available either way. So what if it produces some strange results when used incorrectly, can you imagine the things possible with replacng the unnecessary body hair layer (for guys like Caliro who have none) with another layer, say for patterns? Also, combining two hair layers produces some interesting results sometimes. Sometimes it's just one hair layer visible on the hairline or neck, then another hair layer covering over it, with the first hair layer still visible underneath. Other times they combine to form a differently-shaped hair layer (when used for, say, Carlito).
I also don't like the 32-layer limit. They should up it to 48 or 64 this time around. I hate it when I use up all 32 layers on a complex design for someone, then have nothing left for his/her entrance and cutscene attire.
They just really need to improve the CAW system overall. No matter what, all of the Eugene CAWs I've seen...suck, really. They all suck, and all look the same. And the women...don't even get me started. I haven't yet found a decent Melina or Lita CAW.
:p

Hey heres a CAW site with some very good CAWs. Videogame CAWs, Celebrity CAWS, Wrestlers left out the game, even a naked woman (I mention it just to get your attention) all very good quality and with pics
http://www.caws.ws/
note: the site was acting weird a sec ago.

Oh, no, I wasn't asking for a CAW site. ;) I have a few of those, I was just saying that I've never seen a decent Eugene CAW yet. :)
Hmm, I've heard of this site, forgot the URL, I'll check it out, see if there are any good Eugene/Melina/Lita/Candice (yes, Candice) CAWs in there. :) Thanks

Worst. Melina. Ever.
And the Eugene CAWs on there still leave much to be desired. And no Candice. How come nobody has deigned to make a Candice Michelle CAW yet? For shame... ;)
I mean, I ripped & burned the game with new music, including her theme. I'd like to use it. :(

08-10-2005, 03:50 AM
Oooh, I gots me plenty o' CAWs (22 altogether so far). As of right now, after not much work, I have 10 original CAWs and 12 WWE CAWs (of people not in the game).
Originals (they are all part of my imaginary federation, the fWf, Fantasy Wrestling Federation):
• "The Professional" Rich Wilson (one of the mainstays, he was Rich "The Plumber" Wilson in WrestleMania 2000 and No Mercy for N64, changed the name to match the best callname I could find for him; always a face until recently, one of the few wrestlers left that wears face paint; he recently had a gimmick alteration and is now a darker, heel character and wears a lot less face paint, I'll show you pics of the N64 version and today's version -- uses "Can't Stop" by pre)Thing, one of the licensed songs that came with SVR that I fell in love with)
• Joe Bob Lazer (don't ask about the name, another regular -- currently uses "Counting The Days" by Collective Soul as his theme)
• Big E:Z (a cool-big-guy type of character; EZ, Lazer, and Wilson were original in a triple tag team called The Three Kings, and all wore Wilson's style of face paint -- currently uses "Word Up!" by Korn [a remake])
• Caliente José (Mexican wrestler, very built, blue hair -- was a 'fro until recently, now it's a combed-back mohawk -- currently uses "Hate It Or Love It" by The Game f/ 50 Cent, the only 50 Cent song I even remotely like)
• Shauna Peterson (in the N64 games she was a valet for Wilson, until she developed her wrestling skills and luchadore style like Wilson, after turning on Wilson she's her own person -- currently uses "Toxic (Instrumental fWf Edit)" by Britney Spears -- yes, I edited it to sound decent as a theme)
• Maxine (a recent addition to the group, because I needed an opponent for Shauna, she was also a pre-made CAW in SVR that I altered after awhile -- uses "Delicious" by Shampoo, a song I heard one time on some adult video, LOL)
• Jenna Zen (a pre-made CAW in SVR, another "Diva" to wrestle, haven't altered her yet -- currently uses "My Thoughts On The Subject" by All That's Left as her theme)
• Disco Boy (a very confused guy, he was called Stinky Boy in the N64 games and was based off of Billy Kidman's grungy WCW character; he is now a Disco-dancin' fool and comes out to "Canned Heat" by Jamiroquai, the dance song used in Napoleon Dynamite when he danced for Pedro's campaign)
• SuperNova (a masked luchadore, created back when I didn't know Nova existed, so the coincidence is purely coincidental, though I might change it to Chameleon I'm thinking)
• Brad (my cousin made a CAW of himself, though it's completely unrealistic-looking and is way off; suffice it to say I never use him)
You see, in my head, the fWf invaded the WWF, a la ECW/WCW, but it succeeded and the owner of fWf (me) blackmailed Vince into merging the rosters while guaranteeing Wilson a World Title shot, Lazer an IC title shot, and EZ a Euro title shot (this was back in 1999). To give Vince the benefit of the doubt, his guys beat Lazer and EZ in their respective bouts, while Wilson won the World Title from Stone Cold Steve Austin. :p
I also had a bunch of other CAWs from the N64 games that I haven't had the time to recreate just yet (The Unknown, Black Ninja, B.K. Quincy, Gina Luz, Punk Rider, among others)
I've also, for some reason, thought it'd be neat for the real female wrestlers to take a stand against the useless Divas and call themselves Divas United, using "Touch Me" (Carmella's old theme) as their theme. It currently consists of Shauna, Maxine, and Jenna. Victoria will be added very soon to add credibility to the team. ;)
WWE Guys:
Carlito, Eugene, Joey Mercury, Johnny Nitro, Orlando Jordan, Brock Lesnar (as I await his inevitable return), Hulk Hogan, Simon Dean, Muhammad Hassan, Chris Masters, Hurricane, and Lita.
As for proving the awesomosity of my Candice CAW, I have a digital camera. :)

I have a crap load of characters but lately I have just messed around.
I'm not sure if you'd care to know about them lol. I did make myself though. I have entrance attire, wrestling attire and my casual clothes for my back stage look. Shame I cant get a pic :( .
I'm sure you can guess my entrance moves and movie:p
Anyway I had a thought. If they can make The Rock take off his pad for the peoples elbow, why don't they have Kurt pull his straps down or something?
And why do female CAWS have a cut scene clothing option? If we can't use them in season then why is it there? Couldnt they use that for a bra and panties layer?
Does the glitch from the B&P match in HCTP still work? give a diva the peoples elbow as a finisher and use it in B&P and she takes her clothes off herself but when you try and rip her shirt off after shes taken it off the game freezes?
TerranRich
08-10-2005, 04:42 AM
I agree about Kurt taking his straps down. And I've always wondered about the Female CAW Cut Scene clothing option...that's why I never bothered with it, and using it for a B&P layer is an awesome idea.
And yes, I do believe the B&P People's Elbow glitch still works...doesn't it?

lol all the original Entrance themes sound crap with a random riff here and there
There better than No Mercys origonal music :wtf:
I hate those things cos you'd go through them listening and Id find the one that starts with an undertaker style "DONG!....DONG dong dong dong!" then burst into some sorta cheap funk music, just like every other origonal theme on that game except for one or two.
The SD originals still suck unless you make Ryu or Ken cos theres a really cheesy japanese hero sounding one lol or M Bison cos theres one that suits him and in another SD they have an entrance for him where he comes out and does something and then appears out of no where in that sorta floating pose he does but he was standing on the turnbuckle looking into the ring.He looked pixel perfect once I made him.Everything from his cap to his belt to his boots was perfect minus the cape.
I think they should either use origonal music for old music like Ken Shamrocks or Repo man or whoever isnt in the game or get James Johnson to compose some. What else does that guy do? He cant possibley be making entrance music everyday so I doubt he'll be too busy to come up with 10 or so looping peices of entrance music :wtf:
TerranRich
08-10-2005, 11:34 PM
As it is, most of the WWE guys' entrance themes are licensed from outside sources, so Johnston doesn't do many themes. I betcha he could come up with some awesome Original themes.
As for my SVR, I ripped it, changed the music, and burned it, and using a flip-top device and SwapMagic 3, I can play it using whatever music I imported. :D
I can get people the tutorial if they're interested.

Hey, I know this has nothing to do with SDVR2 but I was just playing SDVR with my brother and we were having a Parking Lot Brawl match, but I just noticed that you can climb on top of the Limo, but thats all you can do, is just climb on it.
You can't put them through it but I just thought I would post it, because I didn't know you could do that.:-\
But other than that, I hope the Parking Lot Brawl is out of SDVR2 and they replace it with something worth while.
PorkSoda

Parking Lot Brawl would be better if you could have a fatal four way elimination. But yeah, maybe it would be better if they would replace it. I don't know.

Jaton and I were talking, and I think a very useful and neat (and easily implementable) feature that SVR2006 should have is customizable crowd pops. In SVR, the crowd noise is mixed in with the themes in their own separate WAV (ADX actually) files. But in SVR06 it would seriously kick ass if you could choose something like the following for your CAWs (and even when editing movesets, to be able to edit existing wrestlers' pops):
Crowd Pop: None, Quiet, Soft, Average, Loud, Excited, Insane
Rob Conway would get None while Hogan gets Insane :p
Who else agrees with me?
Drakul

And Cool King, I told you about the limo thing. You never knew about it.
TerranRich
08-11-2005, 01:10 PM
I mean, think about it... you're playing HHH vs. Hogan. HHH comes out to a Loud pop, and it's pretty cool. Then, Hogan comes out and the crowds goes NUT, it'd be a hell of a lot more realistic. And making it customizable would ensure that if, say, Garrison Cade suddenly became a main-eventer, you could edit his pop to be Excited, whereas when the game first comes out he's just a jobber. :p

Go to the side of the 18-wheeler and press square. You only get sledgehammers though.
In hardcore matches, whip your opponent into the garage door and it opens and then you can press square by it and grab anotherweapon from under it oryou can grapple with them as them rest against it and crush there chest.

WHERE IS MY BANANA!?!?
Seriously... I just watched that interview video, and I heard that not only will the ring announcers be present during entrances but, finally, so will opponents and tag team members. I saw HHH's entrance and somebody (looked like Batista) was clapping and applauding.
The major thing that struck me is how all the animations look fluid and NOT repeated or looped, like many of the WWE poses and entrances in SVR seemed. I paid close attention to things like hand gestures during entrances in SVR and I saw some repeated and loop animations, and that disappointed me.
But the animations in SVR 2006 look awesome. Now I"m just waiting on info about the CAW feature, any other Create-a- Features and Season mode. Oh, and a complete roster, including the 10 legends, most of which haven't been in other games before (I'm thinking Macho Man, Rick Rude, maybe even Ricky Steamboat...who knows?) :)
Drakul
08-12-2005, 01:32 AM
Yeah it is Batista clapping cos they have given him the default diva clapping thing (they'll fix it before its released :p)
Oh and your bananas in the mail :y:
TerranRich
08-12-2005, 03:39 AM
No. I want Batista to keep the Diva clapping pose. Add that to my list of requested features. Now!
But seriously, it didn't look Diva-ish at all, it looked like a guy's animation.

SmackDown 2006 Roster Additions
Ten more confirmed for THQ's popular wrestling game and we have videos and screenshots to prove it!
by Jeremy Dunham
August 11, 2005 - To celebrate this week's episode of WWE SmackDown, THQ has confirmed with us ten more WWE Superstars that will appear in the upcoming PS2 exclusive wrestling game, WWE SmackDown vs. RAW 2006. This brings the confirmed character count to 25 and accounts for just over half of the entire lineup (not counting the divas or legends).
As for the characters themselves, they include the injured (but popular) Eugene, the legendary "Nature Boy" Ric Flair, the 7 foot-plus Big Show, The 5-Time WCW Champion Booker T, the crazy weirdo Heidenreich, the ex-Resistance member Rene Dupree, the heroic super guy known as The Hurricane, the balding brothers Doug and Danny Basham, and of course, the Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels.
Listed below is the entire confirmed lineup so far, but it's by no means the finished roster:
Confirmed Superstars
Batista
The Big Show
Booker T
Carlito Caribbean Cool
Chris Benoit
Christian
Danny Basham
Doug Basham
Eddie Guerrero
Edge
Eugene
Heidenreich
The Hurricane
JBL
John Cena
Kane
Kurt Angle
Randy Orton
Rene Dupree
Rey Mysterio
Ric Flair
Shawn Michaels
Shelton Benjamin

And so there you have it, the confirmed list of superstars so far. To see some of them in action, click on our media page below for the latest batch of screenshots and movies. We'll be back again in the coming weeks to fulfill all your SmackDown needs.
Whoa, the Bashams

Just watched the video's, here is what I thought:
- Love the way you can choose which pre-match mini game to pick. Last years was too random for my liking
- Nice to see the more agressive AI working.
- The Flair model looks great IMO. He really does look 157.
- The details are good. They even got Brian Hebner's armband in
- Glad to see The Hurricane back, don't know why the left him out the last game.
- Counter moves look really fluid
- HBK look good, don't like how the crowd still boo when you smash someone with the ladder though.

I'd rather see either The Heart Throbs or MNM get in rather than The Bashams, considering how they'e both on seperate shows now, and no longer a tag team. But there'll be more additions, so they'll probably add at least one of the tag teams i just mentioned.

If they leave Chris Jericho out...:foc:
Haven't watched the new vids yet. They sound good :y:
They should have Carlito without the shirt. I mean maybe you can make him wrestle with or without it, but if he gets one in ring attire and its with the shirt, thats not cool. I also like how the Bashams, Dupree, and Heidenreich are in it.
Oh, I was playing Shut Your Mouth the other day, its still a really fun game and the roster is awesome. They included everyone even Big Valbowski, Billy/Chuck, Maven, Spike Dudley, and Kidman. :)

Ok there are a total of eight videos, here are the note worthy notes :shifty: :
- First video is of a directors interview, it's from the same guy from the IGN one. It shows how the lock up mini game works. Basically you have a power bar which is constantly moving and you need to stop it at the top to get the advantage.
- You see the power irish-whip working, looks good.
- lol wow, the interview shows the forfill your fantasy match. The one showed is a pillow fight from the looks of things. You can use the pillows to attack your opponant to build up a meter to win the match. Ripping off clothing is a good thing to do as it really boosts the gage.
- Shows more on the burried alive match, nothing new mentioned, although he does say it will take place at the Survivor Series areana only.
- Online mode will have FOUR PLAYERS ( ) All four player matches offline will be available online.
- Triple H's enterance is the first proper video they show, although it doesn't have the right music yet, and no titan tron, but it looks great. His enterance goes on for 2 minutes. It's really life like.
- Second video is of Orton vs Triple H. It shows the pre-match mini game and they exchange reversals. Orton gets the advantage and pounds on H. Nothing really special after the inital mini-game.
- Third video is later on in the Orton/H match, both guys are knackard and Orton is busted open. H knocks down Orton and climbs out the ring to grab a weapon whilst Orton recovers stamina. H climbs back in the ring and get's an RKO! The leap up looks great although they still fly forward when he hits it. No biggy, it's much better than last years. Orton pins him for 3. The ref seems to be more realistic in the way he moves when pinning etc. Orton poses for the crowd afterwards and punches the air.
- Forth video is a cage match between Taker and HBK. We see a cutscene where the cage is lowered from the roof. Nothing worth mentioning match wise, although Taker does climb up to the top then misses with a clothesline off the cage.
- Fifth vid is of the forfill your fantasy match. It's Stacy vs Lita, Stacy is wearing a school girl uniform, Lita is wearing some kind of leather BDSM thing. Looks kinda hott :o I think it's ment to be a french maids outfit. Stacy clobbers Lita with a pillow a couple of times then rips off her top. See a good reversal of a punch into a grapple move.
- Sixth video is of a bar room brawl between Rey and Kurt Angle. Earl Hebner is still the Raw ref in the game. Kurt picks up a pool cue but drops it. See a nice reversal (or move, cant tell) of when Rey tries to irish-whip Angle, but Angle reverses it and turns it into a clothesline of his own. LOL, Angle gets whipped into the bar and Rey clotheslines him over it. Angle then flops back over the bar for more beatings from Rey.
- Seventh and final video shows Taker vs Kane in a Burried Alive match. We don't see anything new here other than we get to see the match being played.
I'm really looking forward to this game so much more now after seeing these. The Diva's matches look like they will be quite enjoyable this time round.

WTF? I thought there was "over 60" wrestlers in the roster. I know the rest of that quote says that that count doesn't include divas or legends. Did that "60" I read earlier include the Divas? :-\
Anyway, to answer the question above, editing the music in the game and then burning a new copy wth the altered music is a complicated process that involves two simple and free programs, ripping the game DVD, altering the music library files, then burning the game onto a blank DVD-R or DVD+R. You need to have some way of playing copied games as a result.
I'll upload and post the tutorial if anyone's interested.

OK I am going to buy the game but i also think we should discuss the cons of the game, it is by no means perfect.
My cons:
No 30 foot ladders (Raw 2 for xbox did it, why can't smackdown vs. raw2006?)
No thumbtacks. I was hoping for these. It would be cool if you get get the bag from under the ring, spill them out anywhere you want then we'll say you have to whip your oppenent towards the tacks, they stay groggy next to the tacks then by pressing a directional button and circle there are 4 different moves you can do with your opponent to slam them into the tacks. It would look great if the tacks stayed on their back with bits of blood for the rest of the match.
No barbed-wire boards/bats. I was hoping for these since triple h has used the barbed wire bat a lot and the barbed wire board was used at backlash 2004.
No fighting in the crowd. they did this in one of the earlier smackdown games and i thought it looked great. Why did they abolish this?
No proper tag team table match. In these matches when someone goes through a table they should be ELIMINATED. It sucks when you're having a 6 man tag table match then when one guy gets put through the table it's over.

Didn't notice the other day that Gamespot actually posted a preview/article type thing. Copy and pasted for the lazy gits:
http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/action/wwesmackdownvsraw2006/preview_6130898.html
Last year's SmackDown! vs. Raw was the first game that featured both of the big WWE television brands; it was also the first American wrestling game to feature online play. This year, THQ is bringing us a brand-new entry in the series, WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2006, a game that looks to shake up some of the in-ring aspects that fans of the SmackDown! series have come to depend on. We sat down with the game's producers to get a feel for exactly what will be new for SVR 2006 when the game is released later this year.
One of the biggest new additions to SVR 2006 is the momentum system. As anyone who's watched a WWE match can tell you, the peaks and valleys of any well-executed wrestling match are all fueled by momentum; the developers at Yuke's are looking to reflect this phenomenon in their new approach. Each wrestler will have a momentum meter that, when filled up, will let you pull off that wrestler's finishing move. The difference here is that the momentum meter is dynamic; just as a real wrestler's energy may ebb and flow in a WWE match, so too will a virtual grappler's momentum shift in SVR 2006. Pull off a string of successful moves, play to the crowd, or execute some well-timed reversals, and your momentum meter will fill up; start screwing things up, and it will deplete at a rapid clip--and you'll be starting from ground zero once again.
Running concurrently with the momentum feature is a stamina system, a feature first introduced in that other upcoming THQ/Yuke's joint effort, Day of Reckoning 2 on the GameCube. As you might expect, stamina also plays into the tempo of a match, as a tired wrestler isn't a very effective one. You'll want to watch your stamina meter carefully when playing the game--start off the match with too many high-impact moves, and you might burn yourself out just as your opponent is getting started. The stamina feature ties directly to the stamina attribute each wrestler has; some of the heavy hitters, like Kane, will have relatively low stamina ratings--a fact balanced by their incredible strength ratings. The quicker you can end a match, the better, and if the match lasts too long, the big guys are at a distinct disadvantage.
One of the main reasons for implementing the stamina system in SVR 2006 was for online matches, where players would execute a few moves, then run around the ring for extended periods of time, avoiding contact with each other all the while. The implementation of a stamina meter means this cheap technique won't be available, as your wrestler will eventually tire out if you spend too much time jogging around the squared circle. If you manage to knock down your opponent and have a few moments to spare, you can regain your stamina by holding the "select" button. Regaining stamina will also mend limb damage, but only to a certain degree. So, as you can see, there will be definite tactical benefits to keeping track of your stamina.
Despite the introduction of momentum and stamina, the heads-up display for SVR 2006 is cleaner than ever, offering you just enough pertinent information to be successful in the ring. Your stamina gauge, for example, is normally invisible, popping up only when your stamina reaches a dangerously low point (or when you hit "select" to take a breather). All in all, the developers are looking to put you in the ring as much as possible, without the distracting HUD meters getting in your way.
The original SmackDown! vs. Raw included some fun minigames, such as chop battles, stare-downs, and shoving matches. In that same vein, SVR 2006 has a lock-up battle, generally seen at the very beginning of a match, when two WWE wrestlers lock up for the first time. Two strength meters appear--one for each grappler--with an icon moving back and forth. The player who manages to stop the meter at the highest point wins the lock-up battle and will gain an early advantage in the match.
There are still more control tweaks, such as a power Irish whip, a new and improved control system for climbing the ring during cage matches (you can also choose to escape from the ring door this year), and an improved reversal control that allows for double and triple reverses. There's also a double-knockdown minigame, in which the first wrestler up off the mat gains the advantage.
There's even a sleeper-hold system that appears to come straight out of the WWE script books. If you find yourself in a sleeper hold, a meter will appear that is tied directly to your arm, which the referee lifts to see if you're out cold. As your arm falls when the ref drops it, so too does the cursor drop in the meter; you'll have three opportunities, just as in real matches, to stop the cursor at just the right point. If your timing is right, you'll escape the hold; if you've got a flair for the dramatic, you can wait until the third and final arm drop to make your move. If you succeed, you'll get a dramatic boost in momentum as you pull out from the move at the very last split second.
Game Set of Matches
So there's a lot to talk about with controls, but what about match types? The Yuke's folks seem to be delivering big in this area as well. SmackDown! vs. Raw 2006 will include your requisite matches, such as singles, tag, triple threat, and so on, but a trio of new match types will also find their way into the game. The first, and perhaps the most requested by WWE fans, is the casket match, made famous by The Undertaker. Even though you start out in the ring, your ultimate goal in a casket match is to wear your opponent down to a nub--thus building up your "rest in peace" meter--and to eventually toss him into a coffin. The first player to bury his foe alive (or at least get him into the casket) wins, and the match type includes a few match-specific button-mashing minigames to make that happen. Should you find yourself on the wrong end of the casket, you can pull off a last-ditch effort to block the coffin lid from shutting.
Sorry, fellas, there's no bra and panties match in SVR 2006. That doesn't mean, however, that the WWE Divas won't be prominently featured in their own match type. SVR 2006 features a brand-new mode: the fulfill your fantasy match. Here, not only will you be able to pick your diva's outfit (from three choices: nurse, schoolgirl, or French maid), but once you're in the ring, you'll have several new options. You can pull off standard slapping and grappling moves (come to think of it, that would be a great name for a future diva match type: slapping and grappling), and you can also pull off "devastating" fantasy moves, like hitting one another with pillows, tossing your opponent on a bed conveniently laid out in the middle of the ring, and *gulp* even tossing your opponent over your knee and giving her a good spanking.
Moving on from that dubious territory, the final match type that's new for SVR 2006 is backstage brawls. We got to see one of these brawls in particular, which took place in a barroom environment that hearkened back to the old APA skits on Raw. During the match, we saw WWE superstars tossed onto the pool table, against the wall, and directly onto the bar itself. If you wrangle your opponent up against the bar, be sure to ask for a bottle of booze from the bartender, which you can subsequently smash against your foe's dome--a pretty satisfying little touch.
Though the roster has not yet been finalized for SVR 2006, we do know the game will feature more than 60 WWE wrestlers from the current lineup, including a currently unspecified list of WWE legends. It's hard not to be impressed by the grapplers we saw in the preview--wrestler models continue the high level of graphical quality seen in the last game, from the accurate ring entrances to the smooth animations in the ring. When things get messy in the ring, as they often tend to do, there will be three levels of blood to contend with, including blood spatters on the mat, a detail sure to please the gore hounds in the audience. Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler, Tazz, and Michael Cole will all return for ringside announcing duties, though the build we saw of the game did not have their commentary in place yet.
Though we're still awaiting details on the season mode and the online play details, we can share a few bare-bones tidbits that we managed to glean. Season mode will take place over two full WWE seasons, without repetition. Online play will be available for up to four people, and you will be able to challenge one another in order to gain prestige in a virtual WWE Championship--though exactly how that will play out remains to be seen. There's also title match mode, which will let you save any belts you win in the game's season mode to a profile on your memory card. You can then put those belts up for contention in an entirely separate set of matches.
At this point, there are still more questions than answers when it comes to WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2006. We're eagerly awaiting our chance to get a controller in our hands, sit down for an extended period of time with the game, and really test out the new control tweaks introduced this year. Maybe we can even get into a pillow fight or two. Stay tuned for more coverage of the game as we get closer to its release later this year.
The sleeper thing sounds really interesting. Cant wait to see it in action.

Finally! It's about FUCKING TIME!! I hate the usual Submission Types A and B, where you mash buttons to escape, and if you don't you lose. That's it. The sleep hold type Submissions will be interesting to see.
And will Chris Masters' Masterlock only get one arm-check, like in real life? ;)

Loving the sleeper system.
Also, I'm thinking the double knock down mini game is like the 10 count when both guys are down. If that's true, it'll be badass (Near the end of the match, both peeps have like no stamina, do a superplex that leaves both people lying on the ground...)

I was gushing about it to my friend, who is sorta into wrestling games, and he seemed interested in it. At least I have someone to play against in real life. And this time around, I might actually use the online feature. What do you need to buy for the PS2 to go online?

Depends if you have the slim one or not. The slim one is internet ready. For the old one, you have to buy the attatchment.
That, and a high speed internet connection (which I'm to cheap to pay for.... I wonder if my job will let me bring in my PS2, a tv, and use their t1 line....)

So THAT"S what the Power Irish Whip looks like/means. Now THAT'S cool. And what are you talking about Fryza? Compared to SVR 1, that match looked way more true to real-life wrestling matches and was very realistic. The pacing was more gradual, and the fatigue that the wrestlers showed was very believable.
I just don't like the automatic rope-break. If a wrestler is beaten down enough, then no rope break should happen, no matter how close to the ropes you are. A beaten down wrestler will not put his leg on the rope.
And why not actually show the wrestler's leg go up on the rope? In NONE of the wrestling games has the leg going up actually been shown. :-\

I like that new power irish whip. Make's it more realistic. The new animations are great too.
I think in Legends of Wrestling when they grabbed the rope they actually grabbed it. Haven't played that for a while though.

<font color=goldenrod>The power Irish Whip looks awesome....I just hope that they make it so that if somebody power Irish Whips you in a Rumble you don't automatically go toppling out....would make the match WAYYY too easy
The stamina thing is great as well.
Hopefully the songs are just temporary and they give us some new stuff (and if not....I hope they give us a playlist or make it so that the same songs don't keep getting played over and over while others are ignored)...if I have to hear Alone at least once a match, long live the Mute Button

<font color=goldenrod>Apparently a UK magazine (PSM? Whatever had Cena on the front...) have confirmed that some superstars will have super-special finishers that you can pull off if you save 2 specials (basically the cost of what it is to steal a finisher)
The two confirmed are:
Batista -
1 special: He'll have the same Batista Bomb as SVR, and maybe a spinebuster or something else as his second finisher
2 specials: Use both specials at the same time for a new, re-animated, more powerful Batista Bomb
Randy Orton -
1 special: 2-handed RKO from last game, and whatever his other special is (was it Super RKO or Overdrive? I dunno)
2 specials: The badass mo-capped 1-handed RKO you've seen in the previews
-----
I saw it on GameFaqs so take it for what it's worth, but I hope it's true, because it sounds like a pretty awesome feature</font>

New high-resolution textures and motion-capture technology. 100 Different Match Types (this is not the different types of matches, last year there were 24 different match types. New removable costumes for the divas (nurse, school girl, french maid). Ability to play possum (you can act like you're hurt when you're fine). Sleeper hold submission system. Create-An-Entrance. Fully customizable 3D locker room (first time ever in 3D). 3 levels of blood. A new roster of legends. When unleashing a finishing move, if you hit L1 or L2, you can apply a different camera effect. Directly throw your opponent into the casket by using specific moves (ex. chokeslam). There will be about 17 arenas. With new stamina system, matches now takes about twice as long to finish. Choose pre-match scenario you want to engage in (stare down, test of strength, lockup) or decide to skip that . Thee aggression and strategy of the CPU is pretty hardcore this time. The game will have PS2/PSP connectivity via USB.
The Sleeper Hold System
The Sleeper Hold System is one of the many new additions to WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2006's list of new gameplay features. Designed to further recreate the drama of actual WWE programming and mimic the in-ring behavior of WWE Superstars, the new Sleeper Hold System attempts to faithfully capture the setting and situation of a wrestler held captive by his opponent in a sleeper move.
Everything from the referee's rising of the captive Superstar's arm to check his consciousness, to the eventual three-count KO has been replicated by Yuke's. Keep in mind, though, that the new Sleeper Hold submission isn't a customizable grapple similar to the many selectable attacks in the game's Create-A-Move feature; every Superstar will have the ability to perform the new modified Sleeper Hold as easily as they would performing a pin. Essentially, once a player has inflicted enough damage upon an opponent's head, the new Sleeper Hold submission becomes available for use.
For example, if the player-controlled Superstar has a regular Sleeper Hold submission already assigned to his or her move set, once the proper amount of damage has been inflicted on the opponent, the player's regular Sleeper Hold submission will be converted into the new Sleeper Hold submission. Once locked into the hold, the CPU or human opponent will have three attempts to escape the submission hold or perform a reversal in a desperate attempt to turn the tables on the attacker. If the player should fail to escape from the hold before the referee reaches a final count of three, the match will be lost by KO.
For those WWE Superstars and Created Superstars who don't have Sleeper Hold submission assigned in their move sets, however, players will have the ability to initiate the new Sleeper Hold System on their opponents by situating prone opponents into sitting positions and performing down grapples once the appropriate amount of damage has been dealt.
Playing Possum
As true WWE fans are aware, brute strength alone will only carry a player so far inside the ring. The true greats in WWE history demonstrated equal amounts of athletic in-ring ability as well as a sharp, keen intellect. As such, another new addition to the SmackDown vs. RAW 2006 feature set is the ability to "play possum" or feign an injured state while lying prone on the mat, allowing players to take their opponents by surprise and secure a quick pin fall.
Think back to WrestleMania 21 where a seemingly incapacitated Kurt Angle played possum and was able to lure Shawn Michaels into a false sense of security before quickly springing into action and applying his signature ankle lock on HBK. This type of action will give players an idea of what they can expect from the new "Playing Possum" feature.
By successfully filling the momentum meter during a match, players will be presented with two options: attempt to perform a finishing move on an opponent or store a Superstar's WWE finishing move icon and use it at a later time during the match. Storing a finishing move icon will grant players the ability to perform a "Possum Pin" on their opponents. While in possession of a stored finishing move and lying prone on the mat as a result of an attack from an opponent, a "Possum Pin" can be performed by holding the Circle button and correctly countering any attempted grapple or strike from the opponent. If successfully performed, a player's downed, seemingly injured Superstar will quickly leap into action and roll the unassuming opponent into a much stronger and harder to kick out of pin hold.

<font color=goldenrod>Hmm......27 superstars confirmed so far, yet according to IGN that is "Just over half" of the roster, so I'm guessing it's really only gonna be like 50 current wrestlers, but eh, that's still good, just so long as they don't feel the need to include every Diva on the roster.....assuming there were to be 23 more current people confirmed, here's who I would guess
1. Chris Jericho
2. Rob Van Dam
3. Matt Hardy
4. Paul London
5. Rob Conway
6. Rosey
7. Johnny Nitro
8. Joey Mercury
9. Melina

18. Chris Masters

22. Hardcore Holly
23. Orlando Jordan
In a perfect world, I would have been able to axe Holly in favor of Big Vito or Simon Dean, but if the current roster is 50 there's little chance of that happening, and Stevie has a good chance at being axed for Scotty, but I'll stay semi-optimistic...still, this roster is already a TREMENDOUS improvement over last year and I would be more than satisfied with it, I think the only thing that could drag the roster down to SVR level would be if they did something stupid like omit Jericho, RVD, or even MNM

One of the most talked about features of THQ's WWE SmackDown series every year is always its roster. A heated topic of debate no matter who's on it (and who isn't), the superstar lineup is viewed by many as something that can make or break the game in an instant.... and our dedicated readers have been asking us about the latest roster situation for weeks. Luckily for them, we can confirm that this year's character collection is one of the biggest yet seen in a wrestling game thus far -- with 50 different superstars and divas in all, and an undisclosed amount of legends to be revealed later. If that sounds like a lot, that's because it is.
As an added bonus, THQ has also confirmed the locations of its 19 different venues. Though it's still possible that a 20th bonus arena may still be included, 19 of them are definitely making the cut. What are they you ask? Well in no particular order they are: SmackDown, RAW, Velocity, HEAT, SummerSlam, Unforgiven, No Mercy, Survivor Series, Armageddon, Royal Rumble, No Way Out, WrestleMania 21, Backlash, Judgment Day, Vengeance, The Great American Bash, New Year's Revolution, ECW One Night Stand, and Taboo Tuesday. Sound good? Cool.

Sorry, but that's all we have for now regarding the legendary superstars of Smackdown vs. Raw 2006. It seems as if WWE is trying to make the most out of the ECW product by including several unlockable goodies from ECW. It's not like we mind though, we're very excited to see how this all plays out. The WWE side of the legends roster is a bit stale, but the addition of the Blue World Order more than makes up for it all. - BRIAN VESKOF Editor-in-Chief

Not trying to be a buzz kill but I doubt "Enter Sandman" will be included in the game. They would have to work out a contract with Metallica in order to be able to use the song and from what I understand Metallica's asking price for the use of any of their stuff is pretty high. Look at the ONS dvd, WWE actually played a instrumental version on the dvd when sandman was coming in and took out the crowd singing the song.
TerranRich

IGN's most popular recurring feature is back and bigger than ever! Returning for the fifth year in a row, the SmackDown Countdown is the world's coolest sneak peek at the lineup of THQ's latest installment in its line of incredibly successful wrestling videogames.
As has been expected every year, WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2006 is the largest and flashiest version of the game thus far. Not only have the online elements been improved beyond the barebones connectivity of last year, but the overall number of gaming modes has been advanced as well. Bar Room Brawls, Buried Alive Matches, and more realistic Cage confrontations are just a few of the refinements that have been made while additional upgrades to the AI, graphics, and grappling mechanics have been implemented as well.
Of course, one of the most dramatic changes this year has been to the wrestlers themselves. Not only have all their textures and polygon counts been increased over last season, but their entrances have been motion captured as well. Each grappler also has been granted two additional attribute types over last year (Hardcore and Stamina) and roughly 50% of all moves in the game have been reanimated. If that's not an improvement, we don't know what is.
While all these new features can't be experienced by our readers until SmackDown ships later this November, we're still dedicated to bring WWE fans the best pre-release coverage they could hope for. Over the next 11 weeks, we'll be highlighting all 50 current superstars and divas as well as more than a dozen different legends from WWE history. We'll be doing a new wrestler every week day from now until then and as a special treat for SmackDown and RAW fans, we'll make sure to customize our Monday and Thursday grapplers to match the shows from which they hail. Sound cool? Cool!
But enough with the buildup already, let's get this party started! Sit back, relax, and enjoy today's Countdown superstar, The Undertaker!

<font color=goldenrod>Since I can't seem to find the link to the pic, here are Taker's attributes:
Strength: 9
Submission: 8.5
Durability: 10
Technique: 8.5
Speed: 5
Charisma: 8.5
Hardcore: 8
Stamina: 7.5
<b>Overall:</b> 91
Guess they are gonna be generous with attributes again this year...
Watched most of the Taker video stuff.....looking pretty damn good. The detail in Taker's entrance is tremendous.....especially when he gets in the ring and you can see he has his "rolled up eyes" and then they go back to normal. His post-win celebration is great as well.
Everything seems to be going smoothly.....the sound effects are still way too loud, but oh well. Noticed something: a "Press L2 to reverse" button came up when Orton (Taker's opponent) was trying to pull Taker's foot from the outside...hinting that possibly you can reverse that move now (and if you can....THANK GOD!)
Random note from the "Pain" vid: Listening to the commentary, they mentioned that Orton is a Raw superstar, which....of course....leads me to believe that they will be using pre-lottery rosters unless they fix it.
Anyways, the anticipation for the game builds........by my estimation, the last day of the current roster countdown will be November 2nd.....strangely, last year I remember them announcing the Legends on the same day as the current roster, which they didn't do this year...so I have a sneaking suspicion they might be hiding something big...though it may just be because this year's legends roster is fairly obvious as is.
Can't wait to see Friday's countdown.....methinks it will be a Raw guy, probably Triple H, Shawn Michaels, or Orton (if they are indeed using old rosters)</font>

HAve they said much about season mode yet? I didn't like that you couldn't carry over roster switches etc. from one season to another. I liked that about HCTP.
Actually, could you even switch shows in SvR if you wanted to? I don't even remember.

There was a story in SvR where someone was after you and there was a bounty for whoever took you out (HHH/Goldberg style) and you get drafted to the rival show for a month or so and then drafted back. I think thats as close as you got to being drafted to the other show.

a)they lose the Tag Team Belts soon.
b)there aren't going to be the Tag Titles again on the Game.

Video 1: The enterance
It's the thing everyone bitches about every single year, if Ric Flair has a hair out of place people will bitch. So alot is expected from this year's enterance's, especially with the increased pollygons to the wrestlers.
GONG! Smoke rises up across the walkway and Tony Chemel announces The Undertaker, JUST LIKE HE DOES ON TV! Taker comes out and begins his slow walk down the the ring. The detail on him in incredible. I'm loving the lighting on this enterance, it seems spot on. Taker climbs up the steps and into the ring. Tony watches Taker as he enters which is really good, means they are not just static models. Taker takes off his hat and does the strange eye roll thing, good god the detail on his face  Enterance last 1 minute 37 seconds.
Video 2: Fight time part I
Video starts out with Taker locking up with Orton. It seems now whenever your opponant attempts a move on you the reversal button pops up under your momentum meter, bit gay. Taker knee's Orton to the gut then lifts him up in a choke hold. Taker punches Orton around abit before Orton rests on the ropes. Taker then delivers a reannimated Big Boot from the ropes, I'm liking that alot. Although it sounds like Orton got smacked with an elastic band when he got booted.
Video 3: Fight time part II
Orton manages to get a punch and a dropkick in on Taker before Taker turns the tides on him. I must say, even though this is an early build, the commentry is great, it is so much better than last year. Tazz talks about Orton's acomplishments but goes on to say that they happened on Raw and not Smackdown, where they have a different kind of competition. Taker hits Orton with a running scoop slam type move before giving him a sidewalk slam. Taker takes a rest and recovers some stamina, when Orton gets back up Undertaker drops him with a nasty looking DDT.
Video 4: Fight time part III
Undertaker uses the strong Irish Whip to send Orton crashing to the outside. Taker stays in the ring and recovers more stamina. When Orton gets back in the ring Taker kicks him in the gut and gives him The Last Ride. Michael Cole and Tazz are on this move straight away and say "Someones going for a ride Cole" "And it looks like it's the Last Ride" pretty good. For some reasons Lillian starts talking, repeatingly saying "introducing" pretty funny. Taker then sets up Orton for another Last Ride, which draws a big roar from the crowd. Taker then pins Orton for the three count.
Video 5: The end
Cole and Tazz continue to talk and wrap up the match. Undertaker gets down and does his kneeling taunt thing as the lights go out/turn purple. Orton is still in the ring, looking in alot of pain.

The commentary sounds terrible as usual.
It sucks when you're having a 6 man tag table match then when one guy gets put through the table it's over.
lol, all I've seen you do in this thread is bitch. You're the kinds of people I was making fun of with my posts.

I never could quite get the hang of reversals. All I would do is keep mashing the L2 and R2 buttons and hope I'd time it right to get the reversal. Is there a technique to it? A certain timing? Does holding it down help? Meh!

Man, I just saw the Torrie Wilson videos up on IGN. The catcalls and cheers are a new thing, but the entrance... the realistic movements, the subtleties, all mo-capped are quite simply...amazing. Just the little details, like Lilian Garcia looking at Torrie as she entered, just standing there casually, and then Torrie Wilson actually stepping into place off to the side of the ring for the next combatant.
Man, this game is amazing. I will be surprised if any magazine gives it a score BELOW 9/10 or 90%.

Video 1: Enterance
You may remember last year I hated the diva's and just basically took the piss out of them in my notes. But seeing as they are playing a more important role this time round, I'll give them some slack and show them some respect. FUCK ME, THOSE ARE SOME BIG COMPUTERIZED BOOBIES! ROFL at the guys woolf whistling at her. Torrie makes her way down the enterance way, shaking her thang all over the place whilst waving to people in the crowd. Lillian doesn't look too bad either, as we catch a quick glimpse of her as Torrie enters the ring. Torrie is actually looking quite hot for a computer game character :shifty:
Video 2: Fight time part I
It's Torrie vs Stacy as JR informs us we are in PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA! Thanks JR. We see the pre-match options on the right analogue stick come into play here, the choices being Test of Strength (left), Stare Down (up), Lock Up (right) and No Action (down). We are going to see a Stare Down here tonight folks, as Torrie and Stacy walk to the middle of the ring and stare at each other. Stacy looks incredibly scaring whilst trying to punk out Torrie with her eyes. Torrie gets the first shot in by pressing X first and knocks Stacy on her ass. We see Stacy has gone for the dark red panties tonight. Torrie fails to slap Stacy around and dropkicks thin air, but lands with a big tornado DDT and arm drag. JR sounds abit strange.
Video 3: Fight time part II
Torrie nails a running forearm and then reverses a sunset flip into a dropkick to the face ala Rey Mysterio. I would just like to point out the referee for this Raw match is Smackdown's Brian Hebner, looks like Earl didn't make the cut afterall :( Torrie drops Stacy with a neckbreker and knee's Stacy really hard before slapping the taste out of her mouth. Video ends. I guess even IGN aren't bothered about the Diva's :-\
