i have a few questions about the CREATE MODES.
1. how many spaces for created wrestlers are there?
2. can you copy a default wrestler into a CAW slot, and then edit from there( like on N64 No Mercy) ?
3. has the CAW mode changed otherwise? i found the CAW mode on the previous two games to be extremely tedious and difficult.
4. how much original theme music is there (i.e. music that is not assigned to default wrestlers, and how does it compare to the crappy rap and rock tunes of the previous game?
how do the hair style, facial hair, and ring attire options compare with the previous game (not good)?

Could THQ afford to add a few extra polygons for Trevor Murdock's side burns? It's stupid little things like this that I notice all the time. I mean, they can do that now.

The 360 version comes with 23% more sideburns than the PS2 and PSP games combined.

1. how many spaces for created wrestlers are there?
I'd assume the same spaces they took in last year's PS2 game. It would make sense that the 360 version should save BILLIONS of the bastards but developers rather make money than sense.
2. can you copy a default wrestler into a CAW slot, and then edit from there( like on N64 No Mercy)?
Nope.
3. has the CAW mode changed otherwise? i found the CAW mode on the previous two games to be extremely tedious and difficult.
I doubt it. We can only hope it loads pieces faster and it's more streamlined.
4. how much original theme music is there (i.e. music that is not assigned to default wrestlers, and how does it compare to the crappy rap and rock tunes of the previous game?
The 360 shouldn't have a problem with this at all. But the PS2 version may have the same amount of varied rock/rap original tunes. There's no telling if it's any better or worse than last year's game. It's all in your taste, I guess.
how do the hair style, facial hair, and ring attire options compare with the previous game (not good)?
Who knows. Let's set ourselves up for disappointment and say worse.

You will probably never, ever, ever be able to edit the included wrestlers. Not unless they revert back to the CAW system, like in No Mercy. Now, all wrestlers are custom-designed and original, and therefore do not use the CAW system.
Hopefully, however, in the near future, you will be able to edit certain features of the included wrestlers, like attire colors, and maybe even add on certain things.
Now...is it me, or does Trevor Murdoch look a little...skinny?

Video 1 - Entrance
Woooo another out of date wrestler from the roster! Good thing Super Crazy rules. Anyway, Crazy comes out on a lawn mower and heads down to the ring. He gets off the mower, slides in the ring and does his flip thing. He then taunts and poses for the crowd.
Video 2 - Fighting time
Crazy vs Hardy, Crazy takes him down and applies an arm lock. After an elbow he taunts and hits a standing moonsault. He then goes out the ring and his a torpedo thing, cant remember the name, but Eddie used to do it.
Video 3 - Fighting time II
Crazy takes Hardy down with a hurricanrana and after a huge punch to the head, Crazy goes up top and hits a Moonsault, Kurt Angle_style. End.

Video 1 - Entrance
God this game is so out of date, the roster changes haven't been done, Boogeyman is still in the game AND LANCE CADES HAIR IS NOT BLACK    He comes out and taunts the crowd and makes his way down to the ring. He gets in and taunts the crowd by throwing up the devil/cow horns WHOOP WHOOP.
Video 2 - Fighting time
Cade vs Daivari, Cade takes Daivari down with a arm drag then drops the leg across it. He the drops Daivari with a shoulder block and then locks in a SUBMISSION according to JR. Once he's released the hold and both men are back on their feet, Cade takes Daivari down with an ARM BAR DDT. He then locks in an ankle and leg lock submission.
Video 3 - Fighting time II
CLOTHESLINE 9, CLOTHESLINE 9! Looks pretty powerfull, although it is done on Daivari. Cade then covers him and gets the three count. He then celebrates his victory by climbing the ropes and letting the crowd know about it. On the 360 version, he uses his elbow drop to finish off Psicosis, which looks just like Austin's/Bret's second rope elbow.

"How to become a better GM"
last year's WWE game introduced the General Manger Mode, and it makes its return in 2006 with more than a few grades. the entire process has been streamlined allowing you to check a superstar's stats so you can more easily book high quality matches. this process is made even easier with the addition of the power 25 which like the wwe real power 25 tells you who the top 25 are (based on which titles they currently hold their amount of wins, and the quality of the opposition) in your personal simulated version of the wwe. plus you can hire writers for your shows -the cheaper the writer the worse the stories - which allows you to choose from various plotlines to give you a more interesting matches and rivalries. and you can determine how long rivalries last. also both velocity and heat show have been added. neither affects the rating of your show, but they do allow you to built up the popularity level of your less famous superstar so they can be featured on the main shows RAW of Smackdown.
Sounds like I might actually play GM Mode for more than an hour this time.

Video 1 - Entrance
Psicosis comes out on a little lawn mower and pretty much does the same as Super Crazy. He rides down to the ring and taunts along the way. He gets in the ring and climbs different turnbuckles to taunt and pose for the crowd.
Video 2 - Fighting time
Psicosis vs Kid Kash. Psi takes down Kash with a spinning heal kick and follows up with a couple of jumping knee's. He then performs a cruicifix pin but is too close to the ropes for a count. Kash puts Psi in a headlock, but when he releases it he gets another spinning heal kick for his troubles. A standing moonsault, jumping senton and a missed tope rope elbow all follow. They seem to have reannimated the counter to ariel moves, Kash rolled out the way whilst Psi crashed to the mat and rolled around in pain.
Video 3 - Fightin time II
Psi chops away on Kash and Kash returns fire with the crowd WOOOOing along the way. Psi rolls up Kash in a small package but only gets a two. Psi hits an enziguri and then goes up top for his leg drop. He lands square on Kash's head, but only gets a two. End.

TerranRich
09-22-2006, 12:02 PM
Seocndary titantron? You mean the secondary video, for example, with Mick Foley it'd be the barbed wire with his name flashing? In that case, there is also a tertiary video (the name only that flashes on either side of the RAW entrance). I, too, have always thought THQ would utilize that, AT LEAST for the XBOX 360. I mean, why not? 360 has the processing power AND the space for three videos per wrestler? And it woudln't be too much work.
I just hate seeing the orange RAW graphics no matter who was coming out, on either side of the entrance area.
ddpBANG
09-22-2006, 06:48 PM
Yeah, secondary video, whatever. I think it's really annoying to see the SmackDown floating around in the background during the Undertaker's or any other superstar with a dark entrance, like most of my CAWs. Raw never bothered me much, probably because it's not white.
Why they didn't include this on at least the 360 is beyond me.

Or on any of the previous SvR games. IMHO, I think they could have incorporated the secondary/tertiary trons in SvR, and they probably have had the technology to do it since HCTP, but for some reason they either refuse or forget to edit them in which really sucks.

TGS 06: SmackDown! vs. Raw 2007 Updated Hands-On
We get our hands on this Xbox 360 grappler from the TGS floor.
By Brian Ekberg, GameSpot
Posted Sep 22, 2006 8:49 pm PT
TOKYO--SmackDown! vs. Raw 2007 is heading to a number of different platforms later this year, and we got a chance to play an updated demo build of the game today at the Tokyo Game Show. The game was being shown at the Microsoft booth and featured two selectable WWE superstars: Triple H and Kane.
While many of the features we have discussed in earlier previews of the game--such as the interactive grapple system--were well intact in the TGS build of the game, we did notice a few cool touches that we hadn't seen before. First of all, it looks like the Yuke's folks have been working even more on the faces of the WWE wrestlers themselves, as they look even more lifelike and possess a greater range of facial features than ever before. Wrestling as Kane, for example, we got Triple H down on the mat for a pin, only to have The Game kick out at the last moment. Kane's face told the story: a look of utter despair at missing the pinfall. Similarly, later in the match, when Triple H slammed Kane down on the top rope, crotch-first, Kane's face accurately spoke of the agony he and his "little Kanes" were feeling at that moment.
Last year's SmackDown! vs. Raw game featured lots of different camera angles during key parts of a match, and there are even more of those brief cuts in SmackDown! 07. During certain throws or big finishers, the camera will switch to another perspective to give you a different view of the action. The cuts are more plentiful this time around, but they don't get in the way of the action in the ring.
Because only Kane and Triple H were playable in the TGS build, we don't have any more clues about the roster of SmackDown! vs. Raw 2007 except one: The loading screens featuring Shawn Michaels and Triple H featured the neon-green spray paint "Degeneration X" logo, so it's fair to assume that those two will be appearing in the game as DX. Perhaps they will even make it into the storyline of the game's career mode as well, but that's just speculation at this point. We'll have more on the next SmackDown! game in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.

TGS 2006: WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 Hands-On
Kane and Triple H hit smash each other around on the show floor.
by Charles Onyett
September 23, 2006 - Wildly popular in the United States, Yuke's WWE SmackDown Vs. Raw doesn't quite have the same impact in Japan. Playing on two monitors in Sega's TGS 2006 booth and one in Microsoft's, crowds weren't exactly clamoring to get their hands on this one. The build on display was looking polished, with detailed character models and smooth animations. Only a single match mode without a manager was available to play. With the two controllers at each display, players could choose between either Kane or Triple H.
We tried it out with both characters, and got our face smashed by the A.I. both times. The computer kept busting out choke slams and Pedigrees. Our punch barrages, kicks, and running clotheslines could do little to sway the tide of battle after we got hit with those things. Once while playing with Kane we were fortunate enough to launch Triple H over the ropes, giving us some breathing room. Pressing and holding B regained our stamina, which kept us from the inevitable three count for a little while longer.
There were some nice graphical touches included in the build. The crowd was a particular standout. From what we could tell, most of those up close to the ring were performing individualized cheers and movements. Holding up signs with phrases like "the referee is blind" and "I'm with stupid" was silly, but helped add to the atmosphere of the fight. More than the signs, the game gave a really good impression that there were seething throngs of fans outside the rings perimeter that seemed generally interested in what was going on in the ring.
Ring intros were another graphical highlight. Triple H walked in to the arena to sets of flickering multicolored lights, carrying his trademark water bottle. The way the skin textures reflected all the different shades was done particularly well, and the facial expressions were surprisingly realistic. We noticed this even more after we got Pedigreed by a computer controlled Triple H. Kane's face afterward showed a mixture of pain and fear, like he just wanted to flee the ring and ditch the fight entirely.
Two controllers were hooked up to the console, but nobody else was around to start a two player game. Despite most of the nice visuals, there was still some awkwardness in the characters' animations when transitioning from standing to grapple. Be sure to head over to our object page for tons of additional information on this title.

Atleast they are beginning to add more in-ring realism in the games.
Also, Yay for DX Crotch Chops!

Video 1 - Entrance
Here comes the COMMENTATING.......GAWWWWWWD! lol it sounds like the limo crashed. JBL gets out and he walks down to the ring, it's really similar to his 06 entrance. He gets in the ring, climbs the turnbuckle and taunts the crowd.
Video 2 - Fighting time
JBL vs Boogeyman. POOOOOOOUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNCCCCCCCCEEEEEEEEEE by JBL, who then locks in a neck vice. He then taunts and punches Boogey in the head a number of times. He then takes him down again with a neckbreaker.
Video 3 - Fighting time II
JBL again punches Boogey in the head and then CLOTHESLINE FROM HELL! He gets the pin and celebrates by taunting/posing for the crowd.

Video 1 - Entrance
Holly comes out saluting the crowd, acting all baby face. I prefer his older music, the one which he and Crash used :( He walks down to the ring, gets in and taunts for the crowd from the turnbuckle.
Video 2 - Fighting time
Holly vs RVD, Holly takes down RVD was a clothesline and hoists him up for a gutbuster. Holly stamps and punches RVD and locks in an ARM BAR submission. Holly rolls RVD up but gets a two count.
Video 3 - Fighting time II
Holly knee's RVD in the gut a couple of times and after taking him down with a clothesline he gives him the Alabama Slam for a two count. End

ROFL "Press R2 for centerpiece spinning" Edge comes out with the WWE Title (Cena version) around his waist, although it looks abit small. He walks down to the ring and slides in. He climbs the turnbuckle and taunts the crowd.
Video 2 - Fighting time
Edge vs Cena in a TLC match. Edge steals the ladder of Cena and smashes it in his face. He hits Cena with the ladder another three times and after a couple of counters by Cena, Edge hits the Edgecution and gets a two count.
Video 3 - Fighting time II
Cena is busted wide open and gets taken down by a spining heal kick. Edge then sets Cena up for the Spear and hits him hard. He goes for the cover and gets a three count, ending the match. Edge celebrates by getting in Cena's face.

Video 1 - Entrance
Lita comes out, looking pretty good for a pixalated chick. She walks down to the ring and does some strange pose in the corner when she gets in. Thats pretty much it.
Video 2 - Fighting time
Lita vs Jillian and BOOM eye poke of doom from Lita, and then takes her down with an ARM DRAAAAG. Lita then locks in a crossface and then punches Jillian in the vagina, and then locks in the crossface again. Lita then kicks Jillian in the vagina, I think Lita might be a lesbian.
Video 3 - Fighting time II
Lita rolls up Jillian but is too near the ropes for a count. Lita nails her DDT and then a Moonsault, but Jillian gets the feet up and counters it. End.

Woooo Joey Mercury has made it out of rehab and is coming down the ring, with the tag title in his pants :D He poses for the crowd/paparazzi and walks down to the ring. He gets in the ring after a number of poses and taunts the crowd on the turnbuckle.
Video 2 - Fighting time
Mercury vs Murdoch, and Mercury knocks down Trev with a shoulder block. After a couple of knee drops he locks in a butterfly type submission. Murdoch counters and hits Joey with a underhook backbreaker. Joey fights back with a Widows Peak a.k.a Sean O'Haire's old finisher.
Video 3 - Fighting time II
Joey take down Murdoch with a snapmare and goes for a cover, but pull him up like the true heel he is! He knocks him down with a shoulder block, then hits the double arm DDT. He goes for the cover but is too close to the ropes.

Pretty much, they have a contract with THQ. No idea whats in it, but it does include exclusive rights for first announcements on stuff. Pretty gay really.

Before people bitch and moan about me bitching and moaning...I'm not.
The thread seems to have slowed down somewhat over the past few days and I'm bored (and it gives me chance to use some 360 pics) so I thought I'd review what we have seen of the roster...
Big Show
http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/2827/bigshowan6.jpg
I guess the only thing is the fact that there doesn't seem to be any ECW on the game so he's on the wrong brand and he doesn't have his championship. Oh, and his new music isn't on there.
Kane
http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/7616/kanesq2.jpg
Nothing wrong with Kane as far as I can see (unless WWE decide to completely overhaul his gimmick in the next few weeks)
Vito
http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/2568/vitouj0.jpg
Speaking of gimmicks...no dress for Vito. I guess I don't mind that his dress is missing it's just that he has his new music and enterance video so it doesn't really gel. This happened with Conway last year. Seems they have kinda got him half way. Oh well I guess not that many people will be playing with him anyway.
Chavo
http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/6375/chavove4.jpg
Another great model, especially on 360. Only thing is according to IGN they have him on Raw, hopefully he will have been switched by the time the game comes out. Otherwise, accurate.
Melina
http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/4704/melxu2.jpg
This is where things start to go wrong. This is not any kind of fanboyism, if anything I would be considered a Sony fanboy, but the PS2 version of Melina looks shocking. It's pretty accurate on the 360. Then again she's on the wrong show! As with Cahvo hopefully she'll be switched.
William Regal
http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/6958/regalcm0.jpg
On the right show. Wrong music. Old attire. No Royal Robes. No "Sir". And looks a little weird on the 360 shots. Not a great one this.
Boogeyman
http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/1416/booiv5.jpg
Here we go...first SD!vRaw casualty right here. Brilliant model. Brilliant enterance. Even go the worms. Then he got fired.
Trevor Murdoch
http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/2631/merdft7.jpg
Looks like a good model. On the right show. Got the right music. My only gripe would be that he doesn't have his enterance attire, but that's pretty minor.
Viscera
http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/6092/vishe9.jpg
Big Vis was one I was looking forward to seeing and I think they delivered. Only thing wrong is that there's no Charlie Haas OR Val Venis to tag him with.
Super Crazy
http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/5656/crazgn9.jpg
Model looks great. Once again on the wrong show but only recently switched (and why did they switch him anyway). Only thing I would ask is...does he still come out on the mower? But that can be changed in CAE.
Lance Cade
http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/8545/cadeeo5.jpg
Pretty outdated model this one. Now sports black hair and short tights. Oh well at least there's a tag team in there. Now we have to hope WWE don't split them up or drop them completely (again)!
Psicosis
[There aren't any Psicosis pics from the 360. Seems they have been replaced with the very first shots of Cena/Mysterio]
Good model. On the right show. Think I'll use him a bit. Once again...lawn mower?
JBL
http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/2310/jbllv5.jpg
The Wrestling err Commentating God. Guess I outta point out that he's no longer an active wrestler but what the hey, he's a great character, it's a great model. I'm glad he's in.
Hardcore Holly
http://img234.imageshack.us/img234/3855/hollqg6.jpg
A return to the series for Bobcore. Looks good but once again falls foul of the lack of ECW. Perhaps we can make a stable in CAS.
Edge
http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/207/edgewa4.jpg
There's been a lot of talk about Edge's model. I've people complain about the fact he wears his leather coat and sunglasses and that his enterance is old (that he now bursts through the smoke with Lita rather than running to each side) and that they should have changed the spear so that he doesn't have the set up in the corner. I think it's a fairly good model and with a bit of tinkering you can have him how you like.
Lita
http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/7296/litarl5.jpg
Fantastic looking model (bet no one has ever said that about Lita before). Really looks like one of the best so far this year. Shame she's scheduled to be leaving soon.
Joey Murcury
http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/4200/joeyxo9.jpg
This is a hard one to assess. He hasn't been active in a while so who knows if the gimmick/look/show/music is up to date. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
In addition to the Countdown we have seen pics of other superstars...
Kid Kash
My gripe was going to be that he has the Pitbull attire, which seems stupid if they haven't put Noble on the game. However, he was released today so it's another former superstar on the games roster.
Kurt Angle
Although I'm glad he's on the game he has left now so I guess it makes it outdated.
John Cena
Not a big one but now wears camoflage shorts.
King Booker
From what's been seen he doen't seem to have the king gimmick which is perhaps the biggest omission of it's type considering that he had the Gimmick at WrestleMania (around when the deadline is for characters). Having said that the images I've seen of booker are very old.
DX
All the pics of HHH don't have his spray painted trunks. Think I saw a HBK pic where he has red/black/white trousers. But with the revelation that there is a DX loading screen who knows.
And now for those we haven't seen...
Trish Stratus
Gone.
The Great Kahli
Has been removed from TV and I don't hold out much hope for him returning.
Daivari
Unless he aligns with someone new (or starts wrestling himself) it's a waisted space.
Paul Birchall
Another difficult one to call. Hasn't been seen in game but we can assume has pirate gimmick. Which is great but if he comes back sans gimmick means another outdated character.

SMACKDOWN VS RAW 2007 DEMO ONLINE ON XBOX LIVE MARKETPLACE
Sorry for caps, but I figured it warranted it. For all you 360 owners, the demo is now online, and is a whopping 1.06 gig. Not sure if it's the HHH vs Kane one we've seen recently on ign and a few other sites, as I'm still in the process of downloading it.

Interesting choices.
I'm not sure how I feel about Bam Bam Bigelow being a legend or the fact that you've got the three faces of Foley (as XL said, getting the Hogan treatment) but I'm happy with most of this year's picks.
What Would Kevin Do?

Nah, Sid sucks. He did pretty much nothing worthwhile, and is only remembered for butchering promos, breaking his leg, and shitting his pants.
Bam Bam is an odd choice, I agree, but it's all good.
I don't dislike 3 Foley's being in, since they'll have major costume/music differences, etc, unlike the Hogan's, where the only worthwhile one was Hollywood...
Also, I will mark the fuck out if they put sweet shin music in the game.

King Booker
From what's been seen he doen't seem to have the king gimmick which is perhaps the biggest omission of it's type considering that he had the Gimmick at WrestleMania (around when the deadline is for characters). Having said that the images I've seen of booker are very old.
Ummmm he didn't have the King gimmick until a month or so after Mania.

its funny that everyone hated 3 Hogans, they took that out, but added 3 foleys. 4 of the same person is a poor attempt to make it seem that the roster is bigger. The excuse that we can play foley vs foley is really weak. I'm glad that we have new guys like Taz and Lawler and Bam Bam, but where are the Rick Rudes and LODs.

Video 1 - Entrance
Oh whoopie, Daivari, still thinking of the legend announcement/demo. No ALLLEYYYEEEEAAAAHLLLEEEAAAAH music = not even going to bother with him. He comes out to lots of boo's and walks down to the ring. He gets in and goes and taunts on the turnbuckle.
Video 2 - Fighting time
Daivari vs Melina, seems like a fair fight. POW, Daivari slams Melina with a dropkick to the face. Daivari locks in a submission ad we get a quick glimpse of Melina's pixalated panties. After abit of chain wrestling, Melina fights back with a rake of the eyes but then Daivari counters that with a punch to the boobs.
Video 3 - Fighting time II
Daivari executes an atomic drop and then smashes Melina in the vagina with a low blow, the pervert. He gets the three count and celebrates his impressive win.

X06: SmackDown! Vs. Raw 2007 Hands-On: Achievements and Roster Rundown
We get our hands on an updated build of THQ's grappler and learn some important info.
By Brian Ekberg, GameSpot
Posted Sep 27, 2006 7:49 pm PT
BARCELONA--Just one week removed from our hands-on look at THQ's WWE SmackDown! Vs. Raw 2007 at the Tokyo Game Show, we once again got our greedy paws on the game here in Barcelona at Microsoft's X06 event. The difference is, while the TGS build of the game was only a demo featuring a handful of wrestlers, the game shown off at X06 tonight was a much fuller representation of the final build of the game. In fact, after some sneaking around (i.e. pressing a few menu buttons) we got a full rundown on the game's achievements and roster as it stands now. If you want to see those details, skip to the next page. For now, let's talk general manager mode.
If you played last year's SmackDown! Vs. Raw game, you know that general manager mode was one of the most interesting additions to the series in a while. Cast as either the GM of the Raw or SmackDown! Show, your job was (and still is in SVR 2007) to draft a roster of talent and try to bury the other brand by booking the best shows possible week after week. Fail to do so and, in the word of Mr. McMahon, you're FIRED!
As in the last game, the first step in GM mode is to fill out your roster using either the draft lottery or the current WWE lineups for both shows. In the interest of time, we went with the latter option and chose to take over the Raw show, then chose our belt holders for all the major championships. After that was complete, we headed to the revamped main menu in GM mode, which boasts an improved look and feel; here you can access your schedule, check out your roster, read your e-mail, and get helpful tips on finding success booking your shows.
In terms of booking matches, things work more or less like they do in the previous game, with some important upgrades. First of all, the Yuke's development team has made the mode a bit more user-friendly this time around. For one thing, the game offers you better information on each wrestler in your stable. When choosing participants for a match, for example, you can press the Y button and see a detailed run down of his recent participation on the show--things like win-loss record, injuries, last championship match, and the number of weeks since he was last seen on the show, all in the interest of making sure you spread the love around your roster. Got to keep the talent happy, after all.
One other nice switch was being able to quickly filter through our list of wrestlers for a given match. Say you're setting up a ladder match for the intercontinental championship. You'll be able to cycle through filters for champions (which shows all belt-holders in your promotion), contenders (so you can choose the right wrestler for the match), or view your entire roster. It's these kind of quick-access upgrades that will save you time when booking matches week to week in GM mode.
Still there seems like there's work to be done here. The game won't let you continue if you try to book a championship belt match without the current champion being one of the participants, which is obvious. However, wouldn't it make sense, when setting up a championship match, for the champion be automatically included? Instead, it seems like the match that is suggested by the game's artificial intelligence is completely random.
After booking a series of matches as well as promos galore (which you still can't watch using the in-game engine, which is a shame. Especially because they added a diva bikini contest), you can then sim through the matches or watch them unfold. After the "show" is over, you'll get a weekly tally of how your show performed against the competition, complete with audience gain or loss and a star rating for your show. How you work your roster, develop and foster rivalries, and carefully time matches to peak just in time for the all-important pay per view events will determine your success as a GM. Oh, and you've got to come in under budget too.
While season mode was on-hand in the X06 build, the din of the room where the demo unit was prevented us from learning much about the story. What we couldn't miss, no matter how loud the room, however, was the game's fine-looking player models. With a near-complete, if not final, roster being shown off, we got a chance to check out some of the lesser-known grapplers in the game, and they all look expertly modeled and realistic looking. In the ring, the wrestlers will work up a sweat after a few minutes of going at it and WWE diva fans will be pleased to note that the ladies look much more realistic (and feminine) than in last year's game.
So, now that we have those preliminary impressions out of the way, here's the information we promised you at the beginning of the preview. First, the roster lineup for the X06 build of WWE SmackDown! Vs. Raw 2007 (locked WWE Legends denoted with (L) after their name):
Batista, The Big Show, Bobby Lashley, Booker T, Carlito, Chavo Guererro, Chris Benoit, Chris Masters, Daivari, Edge, Finlay, Gregory Helms, Hardcore Holly, JBL, Joey Mercury, John Cena, Johnny Nitro, Kane, Ken Kennedy, Kid Kash, Kurt Angle, Lance Cade, Mark Henry, Matt Hardy, Mick Foley, Paul Burchill, Psicosis, Randy Orton, Rey Mysterio, Ric Flair, Rob Van Dam, Shawn Michaels, Shelton Benjamin, Snitsky, Super Crazy, Boogeyman, The Great Khali, Trevor Murdoch, Triple H, Umaga, Undertaker, Viscera ,Vito, William Regal, Candice Michelle, Jillian Hall, Lita, Melina, Mickie James, Torrie Wilson, Trish Stratus, Bam Bam Bigelow (L), Bret Hart (L), Cactus Jack (L), Dude Love (L), Dusty Rhodes (L), Eddie Guerrero, Hulk Hogan (L), Jerry Lawler (L), Jim Neidhart (L), Mankind (L), Mr. Perfect (L), Roddy Piper (L), Shane McMahon (L), Steve Austin (L), Tazz (L), The Rock (L).
This is a pretty good list, obviously but there are some notable exceptions, namely members of the Spirit Squad, Mr. McMahon, Eugene, and, of course, Little Bastard (okay, just kidding about the last one). Still, with time left to go before the game is released, perhaps we could see the current roster grow even more in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.
As with any Xbox 360 game, a big part of the fun is the achievements associated with the game. We did a little investigating into the SVR 2007 and here's the 29 achievements we found out about in the game:
- Season Mode Jobber - Complete season mode on easy or normal difficulty.
- Season Mode Vet - Complete season mode on hard difficulty.
- Season Mode Legend - Complete season mode on legend difficulty.
- New Hire - Complete one year of GM mode.

- A Fighting Online Champion- Defend created championship 20 times.

- Six additional "secret" achievements.
With its next-gen graphics, an exciting lineup of WWE superstars, and a growing list of gameplay features, we're more excited about WWE SmackDown! Vs. Raw 2007 than ever before. This coming Monday, we'll have an in-depth look at the game's story mode and more details on GM mode, so be sure to come back then.
FUCKING SWEET

Irish whips r1 and a if you're using a 360. The controls are pretty hard to get used to this time around, im just pissed that very little if any moves have ben reanimated (in the dmeo at least), kane even has takers old tombstone where he used to do a double downwards point with his thumbs before driving them down. :wtf:
Kanes chokeslam is still the same, flicking his hair out of the way as part of the animation even though hes had his head shaved for what..3 years or so now?
Graphics on the 360 version are amazing though, just have to see if i can get used to this new control layout.

WOOHOO!!!
Bam Bam Bigelow - Not really legend material, but still cool to have him in a game nonetheless
Hulk Hogan - Of course
Roddy Piper - Sweet
Bret Hart - He's back! Awesome
Jerry Lawler - Finally playable!!!
Shane McMahon - YESS!! Never crossed my mind that he should be a playable legend
Cactus Jack - Awesome!!
Jim Neidhart - Wasn't he supposed to be in last year's game but never made it in? Sweet
Steve Austin - Of course
Dude Love - Awesome, what was the last game that featured him?
Mankind - This had better be either (1) classic Mankind with brown attire and old music, or (2) Socko era Mankind with crazy striped ref shirt and brown sweatpants with "Wreck" theme music...NOT a mix-up of the two like last year
Tazz - Sweetness, a playable Tazz :D
Dusty Rhodes - Now this one is interesting. His time period probably won't mesh with the other legends. And will he have his "Common Man Boogie" theme, or some generic hack version?
Mr. Perfect - FINALLY! THIS is the one I'm most psyched about!! MR PERFECT VS. BRET HART, BITCHES
Eddie Guerrero - Expected, but a good addition. Which Eddie will this be? 90's Mullet Eddie, or 00's Lie/Cheat/Steal Eddie? Probably the latter with his face theme used for Vickie et al.
The Rock - Of course!
Damn, 16 legends. Even not counting the 3 Foleys, it's still 13 others! And Mick Foley will be a regular superstar? Awesome addition. :D

Yupe, Pedigree through the table (which has a special table animation now instead of just the standard one) then set up Kane for a knee drop from the scaffolding. This is pretty sweet.
Anyways, to get there, Irish Whip them into the top right corner of the barracade and then grapple them.

Dude was an attire in WWF Attitude and WWF No Mercy, and a full seperate character on WWF Wrestlemania 2000 and WWF WarZone. And it wasn't a mix-up, he used that music until January 1999.

09-28-2006, 03:54 PM
Relative to his career, yeah, it was just a few months, from Dude Love getting fired to the I Quit match. But in that time he had his Hell In A Cell match against the Undertaker, plus a main event push that cultimated in winning the WWF Title, so it's not like it wasn't a memorable time.

I'm still trying to get used to the demo, i've got pretty much everything sorted it's just remembering that the button for striking has moved since the last game.
Big problem as with the last is reversals, now while I think its a great thing to have in I don't think the opponant should really be able to reverse a move easily if they've just had someone put them through a table or hit their finisher. It's a really good game though and I can't wait for the full version.

Any predictions that they throw in 3 complete (possibly ECW) surprise characters to make it an even 70? Only reason I even think it could happen is because they made Tazz a legend, which rules</font>

Video 1 - Entrance
Nitro comes out with the paparazzi looking on, with the Intercontinental title...WHAT THE FUCK! So he's still on Smackdown, yet he has the Raw title, nice. He poses for the cameras and makes his way down to the ring. After bouncing on the ropes he gets in and taunts/poses for the crowd.
Video 2 - Fighting time
Nitro vs Super Crazy, Nitro misses with a elbow and dropkick before rolling up Crazy. It's too early so nothing happens. He then takes him down with a headlock and then starts to punch Crazy in the head a number of times.
Video 3 - Fighting time II
Nitro takes down Crazy with a snapmare and then does his break dancing leg drop. This is going to be this years W-O-R-M I think. Nitro gets the three count and then celebrates by taunting the crowd.

It was because it was JUST under Bringing It Home, where as all of the other demos under BIH are listed on their own as well. Strange really. Oh well, the fuckers downloading now
Hhhhhmmmmmmmmm...I'm not sure how I feel about the Foley's now that it has been brought to my attention that there is a Mick Foley on the active roster. As I said earlier I wanted a Foley so a Cactus Jack would have been suffice but to now have 4 Foleys might be a little overkill for me.
Don't get me wrong I love all of Foley's characters it's just that I get to thinking..."Well if they didn't have Dude they could have had Ax, Smash for Mankind, etc". This feeling is worsened when there's no London/Kendrick.
Anyways I'm happy with Legend List on the whole.
One query I have is...the legend list hasn't been posted on the IGN 360 coverage. Could this mean it might be a slightly different list? Or am I jumping to absurd conclusions like a poster on the IGN boards?

Man, that demo can be intense. My mate hit my with a pedigree from nowhere, I kick out at 2. He complains to the ref so I just sneake up behind him, kick to the gut and then chokeslam... Kickout at 2. Complain to the ref, HHH hits a lowblow and goes outside for a sledgehammer. I play possum, reverse the sledgehammer. Kane takes it in the face, eyes open massively wide and the roll-up for the 3. Awesome match.

Finlay looks awesome
For those who don't have the demo (including myself :'( ) here are a couple of vids made by some guy.
First one is HHH in charge. Lots of use of interactive hot spots. OMG finally a good sledgehammer shot!! I asked for this somewhere in this thread and finaly a decent looking one! And pedigree through table!!
<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZYzdagCbJLM"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZYzdagCbJLM" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
This one has Kane in control. Love the ability to powerbomb/chokeslam into turnbuckles. This game seems really brutal. The cut on HHH's head, repeated slamming into exposed turnbuckle/tabe/guard rail/staeps...I love it!!
<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/uqmRL-G7zH0"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/uqmRL-G7zH0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

Those videos are awesome (especially the 2nd one), except for one thing: the comical in-and-out of the camera while HHH is slamming Kane's head into varous things. And the fact that there's no limit on how many times you can do it. Over, and over, and over again. If the CPU ever does that to me, I swear, I'm beating it with a stick.

Video 1 - Entrance
Lashley comes out and does his his pyro job. He walks down to the ring with the United States title. He jumps up to the ring, gets in and climbs the turnbuckle to taunt to the crowd.
Video 2 - Fighting time
Lashley vs Snitsky, HOSS-A-MANIA! Lashley takes down Snitsky with an STO and then locks in a neck vice. After a couple of punches to the head, Lashley locks in an ARM BAR!
Video 3 - Fighting time II
Lashley locks in the neck vice again and then Spears Snitsky (it's activated from the ground, like Goldberg's set up a couple of games ago, but with Lashley's spear) and gets the pin. He then celebrates his victory by taunting the crowd.

Video 1 - Entrance
MY NAME IS FINLAY AND I LOVE TO FIGHT  Finlay comes out to a chorus of boo's. He walks down to the ring and when he gets in, he puts his schellALLYAAAAHLLLLAAYAAHAAAAIAAAA in the corner.
Video 2 - Fighting time
Mercury is in for a rough night. Finlay puts him down with a shoulder block and locks in a headlock submission. Finlay then takes Joey down with a butterfly lock and then rakes his eyes when he gets back up. He then gives him a back body drop on his arm.
Video 3 - Fighting time II
Finlay levels poor old Joey with a clothesline, and then jumps on his chest. After a leg/ankle lock, he hits the Celtic Cross, which looks fucking brutal. He goes for the cover but only gets a two count. End.

I want an RKO set-up animation like Rock and Goldberg had for their finishers years ago. Randy rolling on the ground stalking his prey is freakin awesome. They should add the old one where he gets on one knee with eyes wide open for the hell of it, too.
And what will an opponent hear when your CAW comes out on his end of an online match-up when your CAW may have ripped music?
Will there even be ripped music? It's a damn shame and a call-out to these 'journalist' that we don't know this yet.

IGN's 4 page preview, page 1
If you've been following our SmackDown Countdown over the last three weeks (and based on our visitor count, who hasn't?), then you already know that we've been spending some substantial time with WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 for both the PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360... But other than our daily superstar updates, we haven't been saying much else. Luckily for everyone, THQ has given the go ahead for us to spill the worms so that we can talk a bit more about how things work and how things are different in SVR '07... And there are certainly things to talk about.
Naturally, the most obvious change that longtime players will notice above all else is the change of the control scheme -- it doesn't work the way it used to. Now altered to make use of the analog sticks, the configuration feels a lot less mechanical than it did before -- which is a good thing for an obviously-aging franchise.
The good news is that things are far more responsive than they were when we last told you about the game at E3. Movements via the stick no longer have the delay or outright failure to work that once plagued them, and character collision and fatigue has been tweaked in a much more realistic direction. Despite spending as much time as we have with the title over the last several weeks, however, we have to admit: the movesets do seem more limited under the new control scheme. Because of the sensitivity and completely different move assignments for each character, we seem to be pulling off more chinlocks and snapmares than ever before.
One of the things that takes getting used to (and pay attention to this, because it isn't mentioned in any tutorial) is that picking up your opponent from the mat is no longer handled with a face button. Now, clicking R3 is what grabs their heads and stands them upright -- while holding down and using the L-stick to navigate is how you drag them around. Veterans will certainly find the change odd, but it does seem to work better once you get the hang of it. It's also worth mentioning that the new "unlimited reversal system" works pretty well -- and it's a lot more forgiving with its timing than in past years.
R3 is also the tool to get the user-controlled grappling moves started (click it while grappled to initiate, and then push a direction to determine what type). It's definitely a cool little addition in concept, but we're still not sold on its actual value yet. You see, the prince for using an UC grapple is a large amount of your stamina bar -- and the moves are flashier than they are powerful. Then again, we're still learning the ropes with a number of the game's new mechanics, so it's still too early to pass the grade on it.
Oh, and while we're discussing new mechanics, the "Interactive Fighting Areas" are definitely neat little additions. Throwing someone into a barricade, for example, will send them spilling over it and you can follow them to incur more damage if you like. Once engaged in the IFA, things work just as they do in those prelim videos that have been floating around since the game was announced: players can pull weapons out of the crowd or even signs to help them out. As a face, pulling a sign from a fan can help your momentum out as you cheer along with the crowd; but if you're a heel, you can go ahead and tear that sign up and stomp on it for their own momentum boost.
If you're not worried about momentum and just want to hurt someone, that's cool too. The focus of IFA is doing an extreme amount of damage in a number of different ways anyhow. Trash cans, fire extinguishers, chairs, monitors, speakers, scaffolding, and an assortment of other things that make babies cry can all be used for some easy pain-giving. The company line here is that "if you can see it, you can use it," and so far that's true -- as just about everything we've seen can be used on or against your opponent (with cool special effects to boot).

One area that still runs into problems, though, is the AI. Admittedly, we've played every SmackDown since time began, so maybe we're a little on the advanced side... but even so, the level of opposition that the CPU provides on all but Legend difficulty will be a pushover for series pros (and even then, it isn't the hardest challenge in the world by any means). Obviously, and as with past SmackDowns, the real fun here is playing with other people -- but since we haven't been able to give online head-to-head a go yet, the CPU and "Player #2" are the only folks we've been messing with so far.
The good news is that, even if you're playing alone, there's a great amount of content here. Most of the familiar match types have come back from last year and improved versions of tables, TLC, and the addition of Money in the Bank contests are all good fixes. However, fans of the diva specialty matches from earlier seasons might be disappointed to learn that there isn't such a match this year -- that means no Bran and Panties and no fulfill your fantasy -- or at least, it isn't anywhere that we've seen in the menus or unlockables section.
There are some slight alterations to other match types as well. Buried Alive, for example, has slightly-better collision on the dirt mound (you'll still get the mysterious floating wrestlers, but not as often), and the interactive areas add some spice to old favorites (particularly "Parking Lot Brawl" which now as a fire truck and a sewage tanker).
The "Locker Room" feature was a big hit with fans last year, and THQ has made a number of new changes to it for SVR 2007. The first and most noticeable amendment, of course, is that it's no longer setup with a static and lifeless display. Now the locker room is full 3D -- just like the old season navigation modes used to be in earlier PS2 SmackDowns. There are three rooms to explore in all, and they include an upstairs belt case and "Wall of Fame" area to a side area dedicated to character customization.
Pressing start at any time while in the locker room brings up the customization screen, and allows players to modify almost every area of their abode. Whether a user wants to change how their drink bar looks (which is where they can check their challenges) or alter the type of table they use to house WWE magazines (which provide Superstar bios that include everything from their height and weight to notable championships and more), the choice is entirely theirs.
And by choice, we mean it. There are 14 customizable hub aspects in total: Room Lighting, Wall Pattern, Floor Pattern, Stairs, Amusement Corner, Bar Corner, Shelves, Desk, Large Furniture, Rug, Corner Items, Wall Decorations, Banner, and Collectibles. Of course, each of these categories has further sub-groups within them, and that's where your creativity will really come in.
Speaking of which, the number of options within each customization set is huge. Take lighting for example -- not only can a user choose to change the main lighting scheme, its color, and what sort of fixtures are used to illustrate it, but they can also unlock a number of hidden items that expands their number of choices. This sort of choice bleeds into the other customizable areas as well; you can change your floor from concrete to metal, your walls from plaster to wood, or you can even change what kind of handrail your stairs have. Couches, coffee tables, and even your belt case can be manipulated in just about every way you'd hope.

But having a cool locker room means more than just looking cool. Like last year, it serves an actual purpose for your loaded profile. In addition to the Wall of Fame, Challenge Mode, belt case, and WWE magazines highlighted above, for example, players can also access a loading screen manager (32 screens in total), customize CAW attributes, access profile stats, and purchase new bonuses at the WWE shopzone. The shopzone is much easier to navigate this year too, and provides a great one-stop spot to pick up new legends, new moves, and cool championship belt alternatives (like the Smoking Skull and NWO variants). The locker room also grants admission to "The Desk" which is an invaluable tool for a variety of Season Mode reasons.
And what about Season Mode? How does it work and how is it different? Well, it begins rather simply -- after choosing an existing or created superstar from the menu screen, the game shifts to your locker room desktop. Here you can check your messages and get info from your general manager. For the purposes of our play-through, we used Bobby Lashley and began with two messages from Teddy Long. The first was a welcome note and a promise that if we won four matches in a row that we'd get a shot at the title; the second letter was an assignment to play special guest referee in the main event for that evening's program (Benoit vs. Undertaker).
Before heading off into SmackDown, a number of other options are available as well. Checking the calendar, for example, allows users to adjust season mode options (difficulty, subtitles, and email reminders) and clicking on desktop PC brings up WWE.com. Here, we have all the same options that the locker room normally brings with two exceptions: one, we can save our season mode progress from there, and two, we can click on an article that sets up the current storylines (in this case, the Benoit vs. Undertaker match-up). Once out of the locker room, the view shifts to a backstage look at the arena and we're once again given the option of saving, changing our difficulty setting, going back to where we came from, or starting our week.
Starting the week begins the pre-match screen which looks pretty much identical to previous years (rules are shown, you can choose to play, to skip, or whatever). One new option, however, is the new "Multiplayer" feature. By selecting this button, gamers can choose to play whichever character they want (ie: we can choose to play as Undertaker instead of Lashley if we don't feel like refereeing). Even better, a second player can hop in to play as one of the two remaining characters too -- it's a nice touch to say the least.
Personally, we've always felt that SmackDown's "special referee" option was always boring -- so we just went ahead and skipped it. Even so, when we shifted back to our locker room we had a voicemail from Teddy Long (yep, the real guy) telling us that the Undertaker was pissed at us for not calling the match down the middle. Strangely, The Undertaker won his match -- so without the benefit of a cutscene to tell us what happened (we didn't get one when skipping) or understanding why he'd be angry at us for winning, we found ourselves in a quick rivalry with the Deadman (luckily, clicking on WWE.com explains what happened when we checked it out... cool!).
You can bet that our very next match was against "Mr. Old-school" himself and we have to admit, that the commentary as the match began was pretty impressive. Tazz and Cole completely recalled the events of the special referee bout -- they talked about how Undertaker was mad about it, who his opponent was, and what happened to get us to this point; and all this was during his intro as he walked to the ring (that's right, no special videos -- they talked normally just as they do on television). Sadly, there was a long silence after they finished their talk (no small talk), but the commentating duo did pick things up again once our boy Lashley stepped out on the ramp.

Following a two-Dominator victory (which isn't reanimated, by the way), Lashley and Undertaker are shown backstage arguing (with full voice-over); just as Taker is about to do something crazy (involving lights and hand-raising), Benoit enters the mix and before you know it, all three guys are yelling at each other. As you might have guessed, the storytelling elements are much better this year and play out more like they do on television. For proof, just take that backstage stare-down into account, and the following in-ring trash talking that results in a Lashley vs. Benoit match the week after, and a cool stipulation match that allows the winner of a three-way dance to pick their main event at No Mercy.
After winning our match at No Mercy, Season Mode's whole purpose became much clearer -- it's how you unlock the game's hidden goodies. In this case, we gained access to the "Diva Package" in the WWE Shopzone and added a No Mercy trophy to our Locker Room. Of course, Season Mode is also a great place to earn money and experience points (which can be used to buy more stuff or upgrade created characters respectively).
On the subject of upgrades, General Manager Mode has received one this year too. A good portion of last year's features and guidelines are back, of course, and there's still a 20-wrestler limit per show, the ability to use existing or user-drafted rosters, a salary cap, the option to set contract lengths, so on and so forth. The interface, however, is all-new. Vince McMahon's greeting, for example, is now voiced over by Vince himself and is delivered via cell-phone instead of the stiff-looking menus of last year.
Setting up events on your calendar is as easy as can be too. Just hop right into "Schedule," select the day for your show on the interactive map, and book your event (up to six matches). Figuring out to book your matches is much easier as well, and this is tanks to a brand new tab system that allows you to navigate seamlessly between titleholders and other superstars. Each wrestler has a much more informative character card too -- morale, titled held, last title match, number of weeks not used, and even specialty match (it's Hell in the Cell for Undertaker, surprised?). This sort of setup is definitely good news for those of us who were into the mode last year, since we're no longer forced to keep hopping back and forth between menus to figure out how to get around.
Another nice touch is that users can now hire writers for their show to supplement their roster, and each one is good for about three storylines each. These storylines can be specific too -- for cruisers, divas, legends, or whatever. Just like in real life, the better your writer is, the better your storylines will be (and no, names like Russo or McMahon aren't on the list). This new story system (which uses a five-star system to show how valuable it is) is an invaluable tool for pushing rivalries forward and affects what kind of match popularity rivals can produce. What's extra cool about this is that up to four wrestlers can be involved in a rivalry at a time and you can actually set cut-off dates as to when that rivalry should end.
If you visit WWE.com on a regular basis, you're probably familiar with the "Power 25" (an ongoing ranking of WWE superstars that are ranked by wins, opponent quality, momentum, and in-ring dominance). That same list has now been incorporated into General Manager Mode as well, and can be used to help figure who your mid-carders and jobbers should be, who deserves a title shot, and who is doing well on a rival show (perhaps a trade is in order?).
Finally, General Manager Mode also includes the addition of Velocity and HEAT. Half the size of a RAW or SmackDown card, these sideshows are used to build up superstar popularity independent of your day-to-day operations of the main programs. Ideally, this is a good place to put your created characters -- guys who start out at the bottom of the ladder every time -- and it won't cost you any rating points to do so. Don't expect to use many other superstars for HEAT and Velocity, though; once a character hits a popularity rating of 70, they're too big to headline it.
As with most wrestling games, there's still plenty to explore in WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007, but most of it lays in the details. What moves are reanimated, what tweaks have been made here and there, and how is create-a-wrestler looking? Good questions, all of them, but they're meant to be answered on another day (following considerably more play time). Hoo-Rah!

WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2007 Updated Hands-On
We put the figure-four on the GM, season, and create modes available in this year's SmackDown! vs. RAW.
By Alex Navarro, GameSpot
Posted Oct 2, 2006 5:10 pm PT
After getting hands-on time with two different builds of WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2007 at both the Tokyo Game Show and X06, respectively, and after every Xbox 360 owner got the opportunity to try the game for themselves last week when a demo hit the Xbox Live Marketplace, you might be wondering what, if anything, is left to talk about with this game. The answer? Plenty. While we've previously discussed at length the game's new right analog stick grappling controls in earlier previews, and last week we brought you a look at the full roster, Xbox 360 achievements, and the new GM mode, there's still the new season mode, online features, create modes, and even more on the new GM mode to check out. Plus, with all the attention being lavished on the Xbox 360 version of the game, some might be wondering what's up with the PlayStation 2 version. Fortunately for you, we've gotten some hands-on time with all of the above in a near-complete build of the game.
Though we touched on the new GM mode last week, there are even more new features to be found than what we initially discussed. Beyond the new interface and character profile data, a whole new way to design feuds has been included. You still create feuds by pitting wrestlers on your roster against one another, but rather than forcing them to fight in repeated matches until the game recognizes a rivalry, you can now manually select specific wrestlers and set up a rivalry within a menu screen. You have to create a rivalry between a heel and a face (a bad guy and a good guy), but otherwise, there's really no restrictions. You can set the length of the rivalry and even designate specific storyline types for that rivalry. There are six storylines available, including jealous friend, stalker, ungrateful rookie, rookie partners, legend killer, and outnumbered. Anyone who has spent much time watching the cyclical WWE storylines over the last few years ought to be able to glean from these descriptions what these types of stories entail. Unfortunately, like last year's game, 2007 wont let you see your storylines play out via the game engine. You can watch the matches but not the promos.
Feuding gets even crazier when you realize you have to hire writers for these storylines. Each available writer has specialties in certain types of storylines. You might find someone good at doing David-versus-Goliath-type stories or another that's adept at diva-related plots. Obviously, you can't just hire a billion writers and stay under budget, so you need to be selective about whom you hire.
SmackDown! vs. RAW 2007's season mode has also seen something of an overhaul. Unlike in previous years, you can now go through multiple seasons with a single wrestler. Eventually, storylines will repeat, but THQ claims that you should be able to go through at least a few seasons before that happens. When starting out, there are three storyline paths available to you, and they all depend on who you choose. There's a champion path for title holders, a challenger path for number-one contenders, and a general storyline for just about anyone else on the roster. Furthermore, the mode features branching paths depending on specific choices you make during a storyline. These choices are pretty obvious, as you're presented with a couple of specific options, like whether or not you want to side with a faction or fight them. Still, it's nice to have some clear control over where a season goes. All in all, there's around 36 specific storylines in the mode.
Like last year's game, 2007 features a huge amount of voice work from the WWE superstars that adjusts depending on who you're playing in which storyline. According to THQ, the lines aren't built generically. Wrestlers will use the mannerisms and inflections of their onscreen personas in each situation. At this point, we've only played through short bits of each of the available season stories, but the dialogue has been spot-on for the level of quality one would generally experience watching a WWE broadcast.
The season mode's locker room has also seen an upgrade. Like the area in previous years, this area acts as your hub between shows. You can customize the place with all sorts of different unlockable furniture and WWE schwag if you like, and from here you can access the WWE Web site, which informs you of the latest happenings in the company, as well as voicemail and e-mail from other superstars. Voicemails, like the cutscenes, are voiced by the wrestlers themselves, which is pretty cool. As one might expect, these messages tie directly into the storylines of the mode.
On the customization and creation front, all the usual suspects are on hand this year, with editable wrestler appearances, move-sets, entrances, title belts, and stables. One extremely nice addition to this year's game is the new preview system for created entrances. Whereas in previous years you were forced to manually load up a preview of every change you made to a wrestler's entrance sequence, now the changes load on the fly in the background. If you change a piece of lighting or pyrotechnic, the game will quickly load that change in the background video, and you'll see it nearly instantly. You can also create very specific timing for pyrotechnics and other effects. By switching to the preview view, you can set the timing of these effects and camera changes just by pressing a button at the moment you want the change to occur. The game will then save the change instantly. These features apply to both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2 versions of the game, although the PS2 version takes a little longer to load up changes than the 360. Unfortunately, one of the coolest, and perhaps biggest, no-brainer options one could have on the 360 version isn't available in this year's game. You can't use custom soundtracks stored on the 360 hard drive as theme music for created wrestlers. Considering how that was one of the few redeeming features of THQ's previous wrestling efforts on the Xbox, it seems like a major oversight.
As far as SmackDown! vs. RAW 2007's online features go, they should be familiar to those who played the game last year on the PS2. Up to four players can take part in practically all the available matches in the game, from simple one-on-one bouts to tables-ladders-and-chairs matches. You'll be able to put your created title belts on the line against online opponents and even trade created wrestlers through a separate lobby system. One nice addition is a proper leaderboard that tracks your total ranking, as well as title-match rankings.
Visually, SmackDown! vs. RAW 2007 is looking as good as ever on the PS2, and better than ever on the Xbox 360. It's obvious that the 360 version is using the same game engine as the PS2 one, but every visual component has gotten a nice upgrade. Skin textures are the most readily visible changes. The definition in the muscles and veins looks far more realistic, and you'll see details like progressive buildup of sweat and blood as the match goes on. The sweat isn't so overwrought as to give the wrestlers that dunked-in-grease look. It looks very realistic in the way it slowly builds up as a match goes on. The PS2 version is, of course, no slouch. The SmackDown! games have consistently been some of the best-looking games on the system, and 2007 looks to be no different. You won't get all the little details you would with the 360 version, but it's still an extremely nice-looking game. Little has changed, it seems, in the animation system, save for the new grapple moves and weapon attacks, but it all still looks fabulous. The only real flaw we noted with the presentation was the commentary, which sounds mostly recycled from last year's game.
It only took an entire console generation to make it happen, but it looks like a Microsoft console will finally be getting a worthwhile wrestling game in SmackDown! vs. RAW 2007. This year's game looks to be bigger and prettier than ever, and it certainly doesn't look like it lacks content. And of course, you PS2 owners don't look to be left out in the cold, as save for the shorter load times and upgraded graphics, the PS2 version looks to include every change found in the 360 game. We'll be sure to bring you our full review of SmackDown! vs. RAW 2007 before it ships this November.

No custom music = SCOT SMASH RAWWWR
On one hand I can understand that they want the games to be as close to each other as possible in terms of features.
On the other they should be using the full potential of the machine. Bare in mind buying the game for the 360 will cost around £49.99 where as it's likely to be £29.99 on PS2. There's not a lot of value for money there.
I guess it still hasn't been denied by IGN who appear to be the Gospel on all things SD!vRAW. Maybe the developers are attempting what they did last year. Remember how they denied the existence of GM mode even when people asked them about it directly!?
All I know is that Custom music was one of the reasons to go with 360 over PS2. Maybe I should start reassessing!

FUCK
Well, maybe you can use "select music" option from the 360 option menu for custom themes, but it will be a hassle.

Online play pretty much saves the 360 version's ass. No custom tracks? Bullshit. BULLSHIT. It's SIMPLE. Music playing over stock BGM and along side SE is fuckin STANDARD with all 360 games it would be NOTHING AT ALL to include custom tracks in the 360 version. The last two (horrible) WWE games on XBox included this despite their suckness, as well as LOW before that.
Whatever. I suppose it wouldn't matter online anyway.
I wonder what wacky excuse they'll have for not having the feature.

Heh. He's just saying that people sometimes find the stupidest shit to bitch about, like hair color and small features, and things that can't even be changed, like an entire entrance, major attire, and new people.
I AM still pissed about London & Kendrick being left out. Oh, and Estrada. He was left out, too, right?

Good point. Maybe I missed it, too.
Gamespot article above.
I understand that it is annoying for people to still be bitching about rosters and cut off dates etc cos we know all the reasons for this but I think we have a legitimate reason to bitch about Custom enterance music given that it was included in BOTH the RAW games on the original XBox!
He bitched when I did my roster assessment a few days ago even though I said I wasn't complaining merely assessing it. Some doods need to chill out!

lol take a chill pill dude, I'm just messing. I'm simply taking the piss out of how people do find the smallest of things to nik pick and complain about. Personally, I am not that disapointed about no custom themes, and I dont think it will affect how great the end product will be. I guess they were worried about some schmuck *coughLarscough* complaining people were using their music in the game without their permission and end up sueing THQ....again.
As for the roster issues, some of them can be forgiven, given how recent they occured (Boogey/Kurt/Kash being released, Crazy going to Raw) but some of them aren't, to which I'm talking about roster changes from months ago (Nitro/Melina went after Judgement Day I think, London and Kendrick are tag champs for christ sake). Even so, like I said, it's not going to change how awesome this game is shaping up. If your really worried by the roster changes, just play GM Mode forever or something.

'Unfortunately, one of the coolest, and perhaps biggest, no-brainer options one could have on the 360 version isn't available in this year's game. You can't use custom soundtracks stored on the 360 hard drive as theme music for created wrestlers.'

THQ faces SmackDown music suit
New York musician claims publisher used one of his songs in last year's WWE grappling game without permission; demands at least $12 million in damages.
By Brendan Sinclair, GameSpot
Posted Sep 20, 2006 4:34 pm PT
THQ's World Wrestling Entertainment line of games is one of the company's staple franchises year in and year out, but it has also been the source of a number of lawsuits. The company is currently fighting a trademark-infringement case brought against it by the wrestler formerly known as The Ultimate Warrior and another from the WWE itself, which is seeking to have its game license agreement nullified.
Another legal tangle surrounding the popular series has sprung up, as last month a New York musician named Michael Tumbarello, formerly knows as "Vada," filed a civil suit against the publisher, charging that it used one of his songs in last year's SmackDown! vs. Raw 2006 without permission. Tumbarello claims that his performance of a song titled "King of the Mat" appears in the game in its entirety, and that THQ neither asked for nor was given permission to include the cut.
Tumbarello's suit says the musician notified THQ of his grievance in January of this year and demanded the publisher stop distributing the game to no avail. Now Tumbarello is seeking damages of no less than $3 million for copyright infringement, no less than $3 million each for misappropriation of property, violation of New York civil rights law, and one other charge referenced but not actually specified in the suit.
THQ representatives had not returned a request for comment as of press time. Attempts to contact Tumbarello's lawyer for clarification on the last charge were unsuccessful.

Hey everyone...
Since we don't have a build to cover for you guys anymore make no mistake about it Gamingring will continue to do everything in their power to get you guys the news that you want to know...
On that note, I would like to unveil some news tidbits and rumor killers concerning SVR 2007. Thanks to a manager from the Gamestop Managers Conference who I spoke with earlier today...
Some news good...Some news bad...But never the less, it is news.
- ECW wrestlers Sabu, Sandman, and Tommy Dreamer....DO NOT appear in this game.
My Take:Sorry ECW fans I was just as dissapointed as you. Leading me to the next tidbit...
- Besides the legend roster, there are no other unlockable wrestlers in SVR 2007.
My Take: I would be lead to believe that the wrestlers that Cory was speaking of months ago would be people like Shane McMahon, Jerry Lawler, etc. Who aren't really "WWE Legends" persay but make great unlockables for the game.
- To settle entrance rumors, Mr. Kennedy does indeed have his microphone where for some odd reason for two years in a row Chris Masters does not have his robe.
My Take: I'm very excited to see Kennedy's intro in person now on the 360...It should be fantastic. The Masters info was pretty dissapointing as I am a huge Chris Masters fan...Maybe, just maybe...It will be in the final build.
And finally in gimmick news...
- King Booker will not be in the game...However D-X is alive and well!!!!
My Take: I was kinda hoping for King Booker but I guess I can live with it. The first total confirmation of Degeneration-X being in-game is huge! I can't wait to see the entrances of the two in D-X form.
That's it for now everyone. Hope you enjoyed these pieces of news.
edit for extra news
Hey everyone, we have a number of topics to talk about in this press release tonight so please bare with us...
We would like to start off with clearing up the rumors reguarding our relationship with the publishers of WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2007, THQ. Recently we posted an audio show talking about the state of our coverage of SVR 2007. We have an update on the situation for you. We here at Gamingring spoke with THQ this evening and have talked out everything that has transpired over the past month or so. When we posted the roster additions of SVR 2007. We did it in such a way that unfortunatley violated our agreement with THQ and therefore our coverage with an up to date preview build has been haulted.
We would like to send out a huge apology to THQ and everyone in the media for our actions that were taken and we promise that it will never occur again. As we might not be doing as much coverage as we normally do every year with the Smackdown franchise you can rest assured our relationship with THQ remains solid. They are not cutting us off and we will continue to have a great working relationship with them on future WWE titles following SVR 2007.
Next on the agenda tonight is to announce a retraction and issue a huge apology to the wrestling gamer community. Over the past weekend a source of mine "confirmed" to that custom soundtracks would be featured in the Xbox 360 version of SVR 2007...That unfortunatley, is not the case. I do not know if there was a mis understanding or a mis communication between my source and the THQ representative at the show. During our conversation with THQ tonight we did confirm through them that they would not be featured this year. I would like to offer a huge apology from myself and the staff at Gamingring.com for posting wrong information before it was one hundred percent confirmed through our contacts at THQ. Again, I apologize and it will never happen again...
With that said...Let me start off by telling you guys one of two huge announcements reguarding this years version of Smackdown vs. Raw...
On the subject of D-Generation-X, this is exactly how it's going to work...Here is a direct statement from THQ...
"If you select Triple H and HBK individually, they'll come out in their former personas. If you put them together as a tag team, they'll come out as DX with the music, entrance, clothing, etc. So yes, DX is in the game." - THQ
So there you have it, any questions reguarding D-X is now cleared up and one hundred percent confirmed from THQ. D-X will be rocking the house in SVR 2007 this year!!!
And our second announcement is this...
Do you have a question about SVR 2007 that you just have to know? A question that has been burning a hole inside of you that you just can't get answered anywhere else? Well now you can!!! We are setting up an exclusive interview with the THQ PD team. So please post your questions below and myself and Charles Shane will be taking the best of the best questions and getting them answered by THQ for you the fans!!
Leave your questions below and stay tuned for a further announcement reguarding of when the interview will take place!
Thank you for your continued support of Gamingring.com! Without you guys, there would be no us!!
