Video 1 - Entrance

Angle the ass-munch comes out and does his little pyro thing, which looks good. He walks down to the ring and gets in and does his arms wide open taunt.

Video 2 - Fighting time

Angle vs Snitsky, Snitsky reverses a kick from Angle and when Angle tries to fight back Snitsky just keeps on reversing him. Angle eventually hits a german suplex and then a DDT. After a couple of punches, Kurt rolls up Snitsky in a school boy and gets a two count.

Video 3 - Fighting time II

Angle takes down Snitsky from behind and hits a belly to belly suplex upon his rising. Angle then hits Snitsky with the OLYMPIC SLAM! OLYMPIC SLAM! OLYMPIC SLAM! and the locks in the Ankle lock, to which Snitsky has no choice but to tap out. LOL Angle then celebrates by standing on a chair in the middle of the ring and getting the ref to put his medal around his neck. Dont ever remember seeing this, but still, pretty funny.

roster is solid... but there is nothing that's really "new" this year..

This will be the first WWE game I don't buy since HCTP/WMXIX (not including x box games cuz they don't count :shifty: )

Nothing new? This has more new features than like any other wrestling game...

Interactive hotspots (Smash your opponent's face into the steel steps, choke opponent out with cabling from the announcer's tables, smash limbs against the ringpost, etc)
New control system (analog stick can be used to execute a takedown, hiptoss, armdrag, etc)
In-crowd fighting (can take signs from fans and rip them up, can take objects from fans and use them on opponents, can do high-flying moves off a scaffold, etc)
Sweat is included in 360 version.
Money In The Bank match added
Tables match reworked (needed to build momentum and hurt opponent enough to be able to put him/her through a table - no more whipping onto table-powerbombing-rinse and repeat)
Season mode changed - three different paths available (champion, challenger and storyline), can switch brands mid-season.
GM mode altered - can hire writers to help create storylines, inclusion of Power 25, can book HEAT and Velocity for your lower-card wrestlers.
Voice chat enabled
Create an Entrance mode altered - ability to view entrances on-the-fly, ability to change timing for pyro, lighting and camera angles.


So basically, I can fight in the crowd, I have a new glorified ladder match, season mode still wont match up to the greatness of HCTP's season mode because of the voice overs limiting what they can do, they've slightly improved the controls (which they do every game..), made table matches a bit more logical and added to create an entrance (which probably wont be as good as DOR's) and GM mode.

Oh and If I own an X-box 360, I get to see them sweat.

hooray?This is where you go WAY wrong they have drastically changed the controls. If I feel like it I will go through this thread and show you some of the videos of the new gameplay mechanics. But it's a whole new ball park.

well the gameplay controls were fine to me last year. I want something big for me to buy the game, like GM mode they introduced last year, + finally having Create an entrance, Locker room and created titles working properly.

There just seems like there's nothing new this year.. maybe it's just me, i've seriously lost intersest in wrestling games, which is weird, last year i was calling EB everyday for the release of SvR and refreshing IGN everyday for WOTD =\

Video 1 - Entrance

Hot version of computer Jillian comes out and poses at the entrance before walking down to the ring. She gets in and struts her stuff around the place and the poses for the crowd.

Video 2 - Fighting time

Jillian vs Torrie, Hall takes down Torrie with a flying elbow and then kicks her in the vagina. Hall then locks in a bow and arrow submission and after letting go she rakes Torrie's eyes. Hall then delivers a snapmare and dropkick combo!!!!!

Video 3 - Fighting time II

CAT FIGHT! CAT FIGHT! CAT FIGHT!!!!!! They roll around abit and then Jillian scoop slams Torrie. When she's down she executes the Jillian Elbow Drop, which is a cartwheel into an elbow drop, I think this just took Nitro's legdrop as the new W-O-R-M. Hall gets the three count and then celebrates very excitedly.

IT WASN'T HIS FAULT! Snitsky comes out with his lovely girly braided beard. He walks down to the ring looking like a nasty S.O.B. He gets in the ring and does his shouting taunt thing at the ropes at we see his nice tounge piercing.

Video 2 - Fighting time

Snitsky vs Murdoch, Doch rakes Snitskys eyes but Gene comes back with a bitch slap. After a couple of chops and reverses, Gene locks in a bearhug. He then takes Doch down with a kick to the balls and a shoulderbreaker.

Video 3 - Fighting time II

Snitsky smacks Doch round abit and then levels him with the pumphandle slam. Gene then taunts and takes Doch's head off with the big boot to the face. Gene gets the three count and then celebrates by doing more shouting at the ropes and even climbs the turnbuckle to do some.

:heart: Foley :heart: He comes out wear a BIG ASS Hardcore title, seriously, its huge, its what the World Heavyweight Title size should have been. Foley does his usual hand raised taunt as he walks down the ring. He rolls in and does a quick BANG BANG before taunting on the turnbuckle.

Video 2 - Fighting time

Foley vs Flair and the two square up before getting it on. Foley takes down Flair with a clothesline, but Flair fights back with an irish whip into the ropes and a chop on the way back.Foley plays dirty with a rake to the eyes and does a dropkick :eek: to send Flair down. Foley then locks in an ankle stretch/lock and then drops Flair with a backbreaker when he gets back up.

Video 3 - Fighting time II

Foley takes Flair down with a kitchen sink knee and a headbutt. Foley then levels Flair with the double arm DDT and gets a TWO count.

YESSSSSSSSSS Shadow Fall song is in :love: RVD comes out and stops to do the "Rob....Van....Dam" taunt with the crowd. He walks down to the ring and rolls in and does his jumping around taunty-pose. He does another "Rob....Van....Dam" taunt with the crowd as he wonders around the ring, talking to the crowd, like he does.

Video 2 - Fighting time

RVD vs Burchill, RVD takes down Pirate Paul with a running dropkick and hits a Rolling Thunder (grapple move). After some reversals, RVD locks in an arm lock on Paul, and upon release, takes him down with a spinning heal kick. After some reversals, RVD locks in an arm lock on Paul, again, and puts down Paul with a swinging neckbreaker.

Video 3 - Fighting time II

RVD slams down Paul with a suplex and floats over for the cover, but pulls him up. After Paul gets a little offence in, RVD take him down with that "I grab your leg and kick you in the face" move. RVD then goes up top and lands with a Five Star Frog Splash, which has some nice hang time on it. It appears they have fixed the ammount of time guys stay down for in ariel moves, THANK GOD. He gets the three count and celebrates by doing some "Rob...Van...Dam" taunts and climbing the turnbuckle to salute the crowd.

Orton comes out and the golden shower flys down. He then struts down to the ring, mouthing off to the crowd along the way. He stops at the bottom of the ramp for abit and then gets in and poses on the turnbuckle and again in the center of the ring.

Video 2 - Fighting time

Orton vs Psicosis, Orton levels Psi with a clothesline and then hits a low blow. Orton continues to work the nutts with an Atomic drop and puts Psi down once more with a european uppercut. After a poke to the eyes, Orton takes him down with a russian leg sweep and taunts, which the crowd dont like and break into a "YOU SUCK" chant.

Video 3 - Fighting time II

Orton puts Psi in the corner and mounts him, then delivers the ten punches. Psi tries to fight back with a scoop slam but doens't due to the weight restrictions and Orton nails him with the RKO, which HASN'T been reannimated, but due to the camera angle, it doesn't look too bad. Orton gets the three count and then celebrates by doing his arms wide open pose on the turnbuckle and again in the middle of the ring.

Watched The Longest Yard yesterday, totally forgot Khali was in it. He comes out acting all big and mighty. He throws his arms up in the arm and stomps his way down to the ring, stoping briefly to thow up them arms. He gets in the ring and does more arm taunting.

Video 2 - Fighting time

Khali vs Murdoch, Doch hasn't got a chance. Khali kicks Doch in the nutts and puts him in the torture rack. He then hits an atomic drop and stomps away on Dochs knee. Khali drops to his knee's to low blow Doch, and is pretty much the same height as Doch. Khalo then hits another low blow, like he really needs the advantage that move brings him.

Video 3 - Fighting time II

Khali lifts up Doch by the neck and slams him down. Khali then pressslams Doch and hits the BRAIN CHOP!!!!!! Worst...finisher....ever. Somehow Khali gets the three count and then celebrates by throwing up the arms.

*GONG* *LIGHTNING* :wtf: Taker comes out and takes his sweet ass time getting to the ring through the smoke and purple lights. He gets to the ring and walks up the steps and does his lights raising thing. He gets in and de-hats himself.

Video 2 - Fighting time

Taker vs Kennedy, Taker gets things going quickly with a DDT and Kennedy fights back with the falling powerslam, even though its done from the neck. Taker then punches Kennedy in the face and after some reversals, Taker locks in an arm lock. Taker then does abit of chain wrestling and hits a sidewalk slam.

Video 3 - Fighting time II

Taker slams Kennedy down by his head and then sends him for the Last Ride. He then Tombstones Kennedy afterwards and gets the three count. Taker celebrates by doing his usual kneeling thing with purple lights.

SmackDown 2007: Chains and Ultimate Control
You've heard the terms, now understand what they mean.

October 26, 2006 - Though we've discussed WWE SmackDown vs. RAW 2007's chain reversal system and ultimate control moves before, we've never really gone into detail. Now that the game is just under three weeks away, however, we figured that now is as good a time as any to explain the two systems more thoroughly. What else more can we say except let's get to it?

Ultimate Control Moves

When grappling with an opponent, what happens when you press R3? In short, the "Ultimate Control Moves" happen. Totaling more than 40 in all, the UCMs allow gamers to participate in interactive moves that were previously only shown as predetermined animation sets. As an example, once a player initiates a grapple and presses R3, it brings up the Ultimate Control menu. From here, players can then decide which direction they'll push the right analog stick and it enables them to control the length and speed at which they perform a smash into the turnbuckle, a Samoan drop, or whatever. Users can even rotate the stick in a circle to simulate an airplane spin.

Of course, players don't have to perform a move once they've lifted or grabbed an opponent. They can also use the UCM to carry their foe to a certain position in the ring for environmental reactions. Moving an enemy into a corner, out of the ring, or off the top of a Hell in a Cell are a few instances in which this tactic proves effective. UCMs can be particularly useful if players position their opponents so that they can be thrown onto a table or some other painful surface. Suplexes, Powerslams, DDTs, Repeating Powerbombs, Swining Neckbreakers, and Piledrivers are just a few of the several moves that users have the potential to control.

Chain Reversal System

Another new feature is the Chain Reversal System. If a player performs a strong grapple and the opponent successfully reverses it, then the chain reversal system begins. These changes are can all be performed on the fly back and forth without a limit of how many times it can be done -- and it's illustrated in one fluid animation sequence so as not to break up the action... a far cry from older SmackDown games where a successful reversal simply broke opponents free of each other.

The guy doing the ign 360 vids must be the laziest whore ever. When you look at a finishing move video for ps2 you get a bit of action leading up to it, the 360 vids seem to be 10 seconds or so in length showing nothing but the finisher. Even the 360 vid above undertaker vs khali, its like 8 fucking seconds long, yet the ps2 of taker vs kennedy is over a minute in length.

Also, the PS2 videos, if I'm not mistaken, show the finisher AND the winning animation. The 360 vids only show the finisher and it cuts off right there. Lazy fucks. :p

Bleh still no t-shirt tearing from hogan, assuming the 360 one is the same as the ps2 one. Amazing legdrop as well, no bounce off the ropes or doing the 123 hand slap, just hop into the air and drop the leg like hes done it so many times before in real life. :mad:

Awww no brown Mankind :( At least he comes out to his strings music. Lillian announces his entrance, even though it's Tony Chimmel in the ring :wtf: He walks down to the ring and rolls in and climbs the turnbuckle to taunt the crowd. It seems they have stuck Mankind's face entrance with his heal music. Not a good start for the Legends.

Video 2 - Legends fight

Mankind vs Hanzo, nice CAW model here. Mankind takes Hanzo down by the arm drops the leg on his arm. After a couple of reversals, Mankind locks in a headlock but Hanzo fights back with a suplex. When they get back up, Mankind goes after the arm again.

Video 3 - Legends finish

Mankind headbutts Hanzo which BUSTS HIM WIDE OPEN! Mankind hits the double arm DDT, and JR calls it wrongly, saying its the Mandible Claw. Mankind then does the Claw and then pins Hanzo after he releases it. He then celebrates and for some reason referee Nick Patrick is clapping him.

So it seems the World Tag team champions are in this game after all, whoops, spoiler warning. Piper comes out in his Hot Rod t-shirt and plays up to the crowd. He walks down to the ring and gets in to a chorus of boo's. He then poses for the crowd.

Video 2 - Legends fight

Piper vs Hanzo, Piper reverses a move which gets Hanzo a smack in the nuts. Piper hits another low blow and after some reversals Piper locks in an adominal stretch. Piper goes low, again and hits a running neck breaker on the ref lol

Piper drops a knee across Hanzo's face and slams him down by the head. Piper hits the Double Arm DDT and then locks in the Sleeper Hold. Hanzo fades away and Piper wins the match. He then celebrates his victory, and the crowd are now cheering for him.

Videogames based on the world of professional wrestling, like the event itself, have always had their share of big pops and blown spots. For every No Mercy or Here Comes the Pain, there's a Rumble Roses or Legends of Wrestling waiting backstage. Luckily for THQ, its annual WWE SmackDown series has typically been on the upside of things -- adding enough yearly improvements to keep fans happy with what Vince and company bring to the table. But like most great wrestlers who stick with the same gimmick for far too long, WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 is starting to feel a little too familiar for its own good.

Now don't misunderstand, SmackDown 2007 is still an impressive combination of wrestling, storytelling, and customization. Like every year before it, it offers a number of new gameplay and feature additions and continues its reign as one of the better looking combat games around. The issue here is that after eight straight years of Yuke's modus operandi, the presentational formula hasn't evolved enough to feel as fresh as it used to. But we'll have more on that a little later. First, let's talk about what SmackDown does right -- and that includes a lot.

Let's begin with the control scheme, which is the first and most obvious difference between this year's title and those that came before it. Wrestler control has been moved to the right analog stick instead of the face buttons and, though there is a definite learning curve (which can take as long as a week to get used to), the new system is definitely more responsive and fun to use than the old method. Another benefit of the new system is that it makes flowing from one move into another easier because the analog stick emulates realistic movements more naturally (though not on the same level as something like Fight Night or NHL 2K7). It's hard to go back to older SmackDowns after using the analog configuration.

Tying into the analog grappling system is another one of SmackDown vs. Raw's more appealing new features, the "Ultimate Control Moves." Initiated by a press of the R3 button, ultimate control adds much-needed player influence on the action at hand. Though it can't be used for every move in your arsenal, the UCMs do allow you to control the speed and frequency of certain powerslams, DDTs, powerbombs, and suplexes. The only downside to these maneuvers, is that they aren't always balanced properly -- sapping your stamina dry after you perform three or four "groin on the ring" pushes, while allowing you to pull off three or four repeating powerbombs with similar (or perhaps even less) stamina repercussions. It's a neat idea sure, but not without its problems.

Perhaps the most entertaining (and addictive) new feature for SVR '07, is the inclusion of environmental hot spots and the option to fight in the crowd. To THQ's credit, these mini-sequences really capture the feeling of the WWE's more brutal match-ups (the hardcore matches of the late '90s in particular spring to mind) and are definitely fun to play. Not only do these environmental interactions allow users to throw opponents into speakers and strangle them with cords, but it also allows them to smash heads into staircases, grab a fan's sign to build heat, or send an opponent flying through the Spanish announcer's table. Fun stuff.

Another admirable fix to SmackDown this year is the more realistic Season Mode. Featuring more than 40 original storylines with beginnings, endings, and the occasional branching path, the fully-voiced season has familiar and not-so familiar narratives that should please most WWE fanatics. Examples of just some of the stories you'll see includes a pack of small wrestlers banding together to take out their larger competition; one of SmackDown's biggest names betrays his brand right before the Survivor Series; and your character is transformed into a hot young woman while feuding with Edge thanks to a magic wand. Character-specific storylines and events based on your superstar's overall standing are also included. Just don't expect it all to play out like it has in season's past -- now there is no true calendar year; players just endlessly transition from feud to feud.

Of course, the most improved feature this year is the General Manager Mode. Building on the same foundation that powered last year's game, the new GM option offers a number of new goodies -- including the ability to hire writers for better storylines, the option to send superstars to Heat and Velocity for improved popularity, and full access to the "Power 25" rankings from WWE.com. As an added bonus, users can even hop in and wrestle any of the matches on their schedule at any time. Simulation nuts will likely go crazy over this.

Believe it or not, there are plenty of other little fixes and bonuses that THQ has thrown in for good measure. An all-new endless reversal system, additional player creation parts and options (200 trimmings in all, with a "stylize" option to emphasize personal touches), and the highly-anticipated "Money in the Bank" match are but a few of the tidbits worth mentioning. Combine that with refined ladder matches, slightly improved online options over last year (strangely, Xbox Live supports only four users, while the PS2 supports up to six), and the requisite increase in moves, and you can see why SmackDown is strong force in the ring yet again.

So with all the positives listed above, where does the valid criticism for WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 start to creep in? Well, the most obvious place is with the animations. Despite having a number of new moves and ringwalks (primarily mo-capped by Doug Basham for all you trivia hounds out there), the vast majority of SmackDown's moveset feels just as familiar now as it did eight years ago. Despite the eventual move from keyframe to motion capture, a strong portion of the maneuvers here still feel like they're two generations old -- requiring users to wait until most of them have finished playing out before they can react. The "selling" animations are the biggest culprit, however, as it's not uncommon to catch an opponent sleeping for three or four moves in a row because, though their character isn't really hurt, their reaction animation is so lengthy they can't avoid their opponent's next move.

SmackDown further gives off the impression that it's an older game thanks to an outdated roster and structure. The ECW brand, for example, hasn't been split into its own show as it was in reality five months ago and many of SmackDown and Raw's wrestlers are branded to the wrong show or use an old gimmick (Vito doesn't have his dress, Booker isn't a king, etc). What's more, superstars Paul Burchill, Psicosis, Joey Mercury, Kid Kash, and Mark Henry aren't even on WWE programming anymore, and the WWE's rival (TNA) has its biggest superstar, Kurt Angle, listed as the most dominant wrestler in the game. Whoops!

On a related note, the roster issues are made even more disheartening because of its omissions. Prominent tag teams from all brands, such as all five members of the Spirit Squad, Kendrick and London, and several others haven't been included at all, while other personalities such as AA Estrada, Charlie Haas, and Tatanka have been left off the lineup as well. It's understandable if recent impact players like Sylvester Terkay, The Miz, CM Punk, or Jeff Hardy didn't make it because of time constraints, but to see guys who have been around for more than a year and still not make the cut... is just sort of weird.

And what about those wait times? From start to finish, SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 loads slower and more often than a terrified civil war soldier. Almost every screen in the game past the initial menu loads in upwards of 10-20 seconds every time one is selected. There are even instances where... I kid you not... you have to go through a load screen to get to the next load screen. Couple this waiting time with the occasional PS2 lock-up (it seems to happen most during matches with multiple wrestlers -- must be memory issues) and the same non-aggressive AI from the past couple of years, and you can understand why the game feels a bit dated.

Does this handful of issues make SmackDown 2007 a bad game? Of course not, no sports or fighting title is ever without its problems. But given the current state of videogames and the continued progress that developers have made with AI, downloadable content, and realistic animation routines (especially on the next-gen level), SVR '07s lack of competitive fire in these areas certainly shows what's in need of an overhaul -- particularly going into next year, when all three next-generation systems are in full swing and expectations are high.

Closing Comments
Don't let our nitpicking fool you (after all, we snipe because we care) -- WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 is still an imposing beast of a wrestling game. Regardless of its dated animations, rosters, and foolish AI, it's still a heck of a lot of fun. Thousands of different grappling holds await those who tread its squared circle, while the new analog-based mechanics and ultimate control moves add depth to a system that most would expect to be exhausted. In other words, think of SmackDown 2007 as the Ric Flair of videogames -- a wrestling great with enough titles and fond memories to keep its forward momentum for yet another, but aged to a point where we're questioning how much longer it can go.

7.5 Presentation
A strong collection of storylines are supported by a deadly accurate WWE broadcast style. Epoch-long load times at every turn, however, take away from the fun.

8.5 Graphics
Yuke's still knows how to make great current-gen character models and environments and it shows in SVR '07. The animations look great too... even if we have seen them for years.

7.0 Sound
Commentary is more diverse than last year, but it will still repeat rather quickly and it makes a number of silly mistakes. Total voice-overs for current superstars and most of the intro musics helps.

8.0 Gameplay
The proven SmackDown grappling mechanics get a much-needed boost from analog control, environmental hot spots, and UCMs. Poor AI and unavoidable chain attacks can get frustrating.

8.0 Lasting Appeal
A bazillion match types and options, the expected online mode, Season and General Manager features, and six-player support should keep you going for a good bit.

I just kept using the PS2 controls. But when I was messing around on it this morning, I thought I'd attack the ref....only to find that the button for changing targets is the D-Pad....the same button as taunt :mad:

So back to the drawing board I went....

I think if I used the old control scheme, I'd get bored really quickly like I have in the previous games. The right stick controls make the game feel fresh, for me anyway.

C was the closest I could find, and thats the one I was talking about. The D-pad changes your target as well as taunting. So if you're in a triple treat, you want to face another guy, you press the dpad, and you have to wait for your guy to stop prancing around.

But I agree with Disturbed, now that I'm used to the new controls its so much better. The game has a more fresh feeling to it
