<font color=goldenrod>9 more shutout innings for Cliff Lee. There can only be one explanation as to why he's pitching so well:

-----

The devil went down to Cleveland, he was looking for a soul to steal.
He was in a bind 'cos he was way behind: he was willin' to make a deal.
When he came across this young man throwin' a ball and not doing so hot,
And the devil jumped upon a hickory stump and said: "Boy let me tell you what:
"I bet you didn't know it, but I'm a ball player too.
"And if you'd care to take a dare, I'll make a bet with you.
"Now you throw a pretty good fastball, boy, but give the devil his due:
"I bet a arm of gold against your soul, 'cos I think I'm better than you."
The boy said: "My name's Cliff Lee and it might be a sin,
"But I'll take your bet, your gonna regret, 'cos I'm the best that's ever been."

Cliff Lee you rosin up your hand and throw your slider hard
'Cos hells broke loose in Cleveland and the devil deals it hard.
And if you win you get this shiny arm made of gold.
But if you lose, the devil gets your soul.

The devil opened up his bag and he said: "I'll start this show."
And fire flew from his fingertips as he began to throw
And he began his windup on the mound and it made an evil hiss.
Then a team of demons joined in and it looked something like this.

http://cleveland.indians.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?mid=200804282598999

When the devil finished, Cliff Lee said: "Well you're pretty good ol' son.
"But if you'll sit down in that chair, right there, and let me show you how its done."

Fire on the moun, run boys, run.
The devil's in the house of the risin' sun.
Chicken in the bread pin, pickin' out dough.
"Granny, does Pronk bite?"
"No, child, no."

http://cleveland.indians.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?mid=200805072660095

The devil bowed his head because he knew that he'd been beat.
He gave Cliff Lee that golden arm and bowed at his feet
Cliff Lee said: "Devil just come on back if you ever want to try again.
"I told you once, you son of a bitch, I'm the best that's ever been."

And he played fire on the mount, run boys, run.
The devil's in the house of the risin' sun.
Chicken in the bread pin pickin' out dough.
"Granny, does Pronk bite?"
"No, child, no." </font>

Called Up: RHP Claudio Vargas, IF/OF Fernando Tatis
Back from DL: RHP Matt Wise

DFA'd: RHP Jorge Sosa, RHP Nelson Figueroa
Headed to DL: OF Angel Pagan

I am actually happy to see the Rays doing good. They are only going to get better too. Competition is a good thing.

I have loved the Yankees since the First Matt Nokes Homerun I saw. But the last few years have been eating at me.

I loved the 96-2000 teams. But then it became a free Agent Frenzy. I have alwasy hated Clemens and they sign him. I hated Sheffield, signed. I hated Giambi, signed.

Even through that and ignorign youth, I was tired of them

Then they changed, and I get excited for the new Age of Cano, Melky, Hughes, Humberto, Kennedy, Joba and Tabata. I knew they would be great again.

Then they ran Joe Torre out of town and hired fuck bag instead of Donnie Baseball. Worst thing I have ever seen, it made me sick.

Now Im glad they are behind the Rays, because they have done it the right way, and deserve to win.

Sadly it is too late to ever get Mattingly back. So we are stuck with Girardi, and a fuck all team.

Evil Vito
05-14-2008, 10:35 AM
<font color=goldenrod>Yeah Tatis nearly made the Mets' roster out of spring training but they went with Brady Clark instead. Tatis was the right guy to call up though...leading the PCL with 12 HRs. Singled in his first Mets AB.

What's funny is that his two grand slams in one inning both came off of Chan Ho Park. :o Why he was in the game long enough to give up a second grand slam is beyond me.

Also...I really shudder to think of where the Mets would be right now without Ryan Church. What's amazing is that he hits regardless of where he's batting - second, fifth, sixth, seventh...doesn't matter. He's been the Mets MVP and I'd mark out if he made the All Star Team...probably won't though. Fucking fan vote.</font>

<font color=goldenrod>Griffey will be in Seattle before the year is done.</font>

I think so too and I wouldn't be against it but really is Seattle going to give up talent just so they can host Griffey's fairwell tour? Seems like a waste of money/prospects.

Supreme Olajuwon
05-14-2008, 02:09 PM

Speaking of Reds trades, how amazingly evenly matched has the Josh Hamilton/Edinson Volquez trade turned out so far?

Hamilton's stats: .301, 8 HR (2nd in AL), 43 RBI (1st in Majors), .909 OPS (5th in AL)

Volquez' stats: 6 W (2nd in Majors), 1.12 ERA (2nd in Majors), 57 K (1st in Majors)

and yet neither team is doing shit

LOL at Manny's play today.

Watched a little of the Sox game earlier and turned it on just when Manny made the play. He makes a running catch near the wall, continues to run up the wall and high five a fan and then throws to first to get a double play.

Luckily the Sox are struggling a lot too or else the Yankees could be in a pretty big hole like last year.

Thank goodness the Jays have had great pitching almost all year so far, otherwise they'd be so much further behind in the standings. Looks like the offense is starting to wake up now too, so maybe I'll see the Jays go on a 8-0; 14-2 type run.

<font color=goldenrod>God hates the Mets....just plain and simple. Today's game:

-Mike Pelfrey looks brilliant....not giving up a hit until the 7th
-Mets offense jobs to Jason Bergmann
-Pelfrey gives up a run in the 8th, putting him on the line for the loss

Then we go to the 8th:
-The Mets record a double play on a sacrifice bunt :|

Then in the 9th:
-Willie Harris makes yet another game-saving catch against the Mets
-With one out and the tying run at 3rd, Delgado hits a liner to Aaron Boone who snags it and doubles up Beltran at 3rd to end the game.

It's days like these that really make me hate baseball.</font> :(

As for those damn Mets....Tomorrow is the moment of truth. Will he or won't he get fired? My guess is he will probably get till the All Star break, but I wouldn't be shocked if they did decide to fire him. I heard Jon Heyman on the fan about an hour ago saying that he won't be fired, but that was his own opinion.

Time will tell in the end. Something has gotta be done, we look so flat and need a jump start. Also we better keep Nick Evans in and playing for the time being, I don't want to see him riding the bench for Endy, I like Endy but we brought the kid up and its best to let him play. The Marlins, Rays, and A's are all doing way better still then most people thought they would. I'm not surprised about the Rays, but the other 2 seemed to have been poised for a real step back after dumping so much major league talent. Good on them. Gives a guy hope that good management can trump free spending.

I still puzzles me that after all this time, people still don't get that spending money on big name all-star players doesn't gurantee anything. I'm happy for those teams you mentioned and even the Orioles. Here's a team with a bunch of midcarders and they're having a decent year. Good ball all around

A lot of the young talent on Florida are coming alive this year, so props to them. Oakland is doing miles better than I expected too. Hopefully their success sends a message across the league that overpaid players don't necessarily generate wins.

I'll be seeing the Red Sox face the Orioles in Baltimore this weekend, so I want to see those midcarders held down under the AL East glass ceiling for now.

<font color=goldenrod>Mets now one game under .500.....what frustrates me more than anything is the fact that they clearly aren't even trying to field the best possible 25-Man roster.

Despite being down one outfielder (Ryan Church)...they are insistant on carrying three catchers. The only reason you would ever do that is if one of the catchers has injury problems or one of them is a really good hitter...well, for the Mets its the latter, Ramon Castro is their best hitting catcher by far, but its always the 3rd catcher who gets the PH appearances, not Castro. :|

And meanwhile...you have OF Chris Aguila and OF Valentino Pascucci hitting awesomely in Triple-A...but instead you call up IF Abraham Nunez who was hitting .133 in AAA before getting called up. The Mets only have two legit healthy outfielders right now (Beltran and Chavez)...they are playing an infielder in the OF every game.</font> :|

I know that it is annoying, but they do have some reasons.

When Church comes back, Nunez is back to AAA...And they didnt want to waste an Option on Aguila or Pascucci to bring them up for a short stint. THey will come up when rosters expand. I dont agree with the move, because they could drop a catcher and keep them in the majors, but at least they had a reason, right?

But Nunez? Gimme a Break!

Supreme Olajuwon
06-09-2008, 07:46 AM
It'd be one thing if Aguila or Pascucci were hot shot up and coming prospects that the Mets didn't want to rush into the majors too soon but they're both 29 so what are they waiting for?

Looking at the minor league page on baseball-reference (greatest website on earth), the Mets AAA team is old as fuck. Youngest guy is 25.

wow, yea, that is pretty old.

Evil Vito
06-09-2008, 09:38 AM
<font color=goldenrod>Yeah it's an old team, that's what happens when you ship off a bunch of guys for Santana...and one of the 25 year olds (Argenis Reyes) pretty much was in Single-A his whole career I think before having a really good spring and skipping up to Triple-A. Good story. I'm hoping this year's Mets draft picks turn out to be good ones, the farm needs to be replenished.

Totally forgot that the Mets probably just didn't want to risk losing Aguila or Pascucci due to an option...with Alou coming off the DL tomorrow they'll prolly just send down Nunez, hopefully another team will be stupid and take him. But I think Aguila deserves a call-up regardless and the Mets could send down Raul Casanova, and they can bring up Pascucci too if Church gets DL'ed.

I mean, supposedly, Pascucci is a shitty fielder so I can see why they wouldn't want to bring him up right now as they are already playing an IF in the OF everyday as is...but Aguila seems to be decent at least, and Val could be a PH which we need right now with the weak bench we have.</font>

OF Milton Bradley has had a relatively tranquil first season with the Rangers, but that calm was shattered Wednesday night. Bradley tried to go upstairs and confront Kansas City Royals broadcaster Ryan Lefebvre after he heard what he considered derogatory comments by Lefebvre during the game. Bradley was the designated hitter and was in the clubhouse between at-bats. General manager Jon Daniels and manager Ron Washington managed to intercept Bradley 20 feet from the broadcast booth. Bradley then went back to the clubhouse and broke down in tears. "I'm tired of people bringing me down," Bradley said to his teammates. "It wears on you. I love you guys, all you guys. I'm strong, but I'm not that strong. All I want to do is play baseball and make a better life for my kid than I had." Lefebvre, son of former major league manager Jim Lefebvre, and broadcaster partner Frank White were complimenting Rangers center fielder Josh Hamilton for his willingness to admit to past mistakes and suggested that Bradley ought to do the same thing.

Yeah sucks for Milton. He's been playing really well this season.

On the up, Joel Zumaya and Fernando Rodney could both be back with the Tigers by the end of next week. Zumaya is throwing the ball near 100 mph and rodney has the movement back on his fastball

<font color=goldenrod>I can't believe I have 5th row tickets for Saturday's game...to watch Pedro pitch against the Rangers...and I can't even get excited for it. It almost seems like a burden to have to spend a Saturday night watching this shitty team try to play baseball.</font>

Jesus Christ shut the fuck up Vito and stop being such a whiny bitch. Are you fucking kidding me? Oh man I have these great, expensive seats to watch the greatest game in the world and a Hall of Famer pitch but I'm still going to be ungrateful and turn my nose up at the idea because my team doesn't do exactly what I think they should.

They're 3 games under .500 and not even in last place. Go talk to a Pirates or Royals fan about having to watch shitty teams play baseball. God just shut the fuck up and stop crying about everything.
