LOL, Farnsworth doing his best to spoil the Yankees day.

Crazy game for the Yankees, great win though. Of the 14 runs they scored, only 5 were earned I think. Nady ends the day with 6 RBI's.

Nope, the HOF chooses what hat a player goes in with now because teams would pay off players to go in with their cap. They put a stop to it when Wade Boggs wanted to go in in a D-Ray cap.

Anyway:

Piazza w/ Dodgers: 177 HRs, 563 RBIs, 115 doubles, 3 triples, 10 SB, 896 Hits, 726 Games, 2702 AB, 283 BB, 1548 TB (.331 AVG/.572 SLG/.394 OBP) [5x All-Star, 5x Silver Slugger]

Piazza w/ Mets: 220 HRS, 655 RBIs, 193 doubles, 2 triples, 7 SB, 1028 Hits, 972 Games, 3478 AB, 424 BB, 1885 TB (.296 AVG/.542 SLG/.373 OBP) [7x All-Star, 5x Silver Slugger]

---

And the HOF surely has to factor in that he was one of the most important players in Mets history, helped lead them to an NL pennant, and is prolly gonna get into the Mets' HOF and have his number retired.

Yankees prospects may have been forced to kick back bonus money
By T.J. Quinn and Mark Fainaru-Wada
ESPN.com

Major League Baseball investigators are looking into accusations that several New York Yankees prospects from the Dominican Republic were forced to kick back portions of their signing bonuses to one or more team employees, several sources told ESPN.

The revelation is one of several developments in an ongoing investigation of a financial scandal involving the signing of players from the Dominican Republic. Last week, the Red Sox's Dominican scouting supervisor, Pablo Lantigua, was fired after MLB investigators confronted him about allegedly skimming signing bonuses, according to an MLB source.

Sources also told ESPN that the investigation is expected to implicate roughly 20 people on "a handful" of teams before it is complete. Investigators also have expanded their probe into Venezuela, where many major league clubs have player academies. "Things are coming to a head," one source familiar with MLB's investigation said.

The Yankees placed several employees on leave pending the results of baseball's probe into the possible skimming of bonuses in the Dominican Republic, The New York Times reported Tuesday.

The employees scouted in the Dominican Republic, the newspaper said, citing an unidentified person in baseball who was briefed on the matter. Their names and jobs were not revealed in the report.

Four MLB investigators returned to the United States from the Dominican last week and are preparing a report for the commissioner's office. While clubs have fired several officials already implicated in the scandal, MLB has worked closely with the FBI, which is conducting its own investigation into the alleged skimming of bonuses.

One source briefed on MLB investigators' findings said he believed "less than a half-dozen" teams would be implicated, including the Yankees, Red Sox, Nationals and White Sox.

The 20 or so employees, based in both the United States and the Dominican Republic, either received money or were aware of others who did, the source said.

Sources said FBI agents have not traveled to the Dominican, and contrary to media reports, have limited their probe thus far to allegations surrounding fired White Sox official David Wilder, Washington Nationals general manager Jim Bowden and Nationals special assistant Jose Rijo.

Wilder has not commented and did not return several phone calls. Bowden previously confirmed to ESPN that he had spoken with federal authorities but insisted he has done nothing wrong, and that FBI agents had asked him nothing about his own activities. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman declined to comment. Officials with Major League Baseball and the Red Sox on Monday did not immediately return calls seeking comment.

The accusations against the Yankees surfaced more than a month ago, sources said, but were augmented by an anonymous letter sent to the club shortly after investigators began looking into the charges. The letter listed the names of several prospects and the amount of money allegedly skimmed from their signing bonuses.

Two sources familiar with the letter's contents said Yankees officials turned it over to MLB investigators and have cooperated.

One of the players named in the letter was well-regarded prospect Kelvin DeLeon, a 17-year-old outfielder who signed for $1.1 million last year. He is currently playing for the Yankees' Dominican League club.

Investigators are looking at the involvement of Yankees scouting official Carlos Rios, sources said.

The scandal began to break in March when Wilder, then the scouting director for the White Sox, was stopped in Miami by U.S. Customs officials while trying to bring about $40,000 in cash back from the Dominican Republic. Sources said Wilder, who has not been criminally charged, has been cooperating with the FBI. He and two scouts were fired by the White Sox in May.

Wilder and others have been accused of inflating the value of some Dominican prospects, then demanding a kickback from the players' families once the players were signed. Critics have long complained that street agents known as "buscones" had been taking large cuts of players' bonuses as fees, but the news that scouts and other officials employed by the clubs were taking money has jolted the island.

"The families went along with it because they were still getting the money," one source said. "[The scouts] were really stealing money from the clubs."

-----------------------------------------------------------

Do note that it's not ONLY the Yanks, but other teams are involved in this as well.

Hanso Amore

Rotator cuff tendinitis sends Joba to DL
Injury is same as Posada's; Yanks to start Kennedy on Friday
By Anthony DiComo / MLB.com

ARLINGTON -- Though their worst fears have not been realized, the Yankees must proceed under imperfect conditions. The team officially placed Joba Chamberlain on the disabled list Wednesday with right rotator cuff tendinitis, assuring that he will miss a significant chunk of the season.
General manager Brian Cashman released an update early Wednesday evening, revealing Chamberlain's diagnosis to club officials in Texas. Chamberlain will spend approximately the next week resting in New York, before commencing a throwing program shortly thereafter. He will not rejoin the team in either Anaheim or Minneapolis.

The Yankees recalled reliever Chris Britton to fill Chamberlain's roster spot and announced plans to recall Ian Kennedy for a start on Friday.

"You have to move on," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "That's the only thing you can do in this case."

Chamberlain left Monday's start against the Rangers after 4 2/3 innings with stiffness in his right shoulder, complaining of a "grabbing" sensation in his deltoid muscle. The Yankees flew him to New York early Tuesday morning for an MRI with team physician Dr. Stuart Hershon, and then to Florida on Wednesday for a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews.

The diagnosis was right rotator cuff tendinitis, the same injury that sidelined catcher Jorge Posada for the entire month of May. Posada eventually returned but never regained full strength in his throwing shoulder, undergoing season-ending surgery on a right shoulder strain last week.

The Yankees can only hope that Chamberlain won't suffer a similar fate.

"To be quite honest with you, you can't sit here and hang your head about it," shortstop Derek Jeter said. "Hopefully, it's not something that goes for an extended period of time."

Chamberlain, 23, was 4-3 with a 2.63 ERA, and 3-1 with a 2.76 ERA since becoming a starter in early June. He joins fellow Yankee starters Chien-Ming Wang and Phil Hughes on the disabled list.

Kennedy also spent part of this season on the disabled list but recovered and has been pitching for Triple-A Scranton since early June. There, he has posted a 3-0 record and 1.33 ERA over his past four starts, giving the Yankees reason to believe he might be an able sub for Chamberlain. Kennedy posted a 1.89 ERA over three starts last September, providing further hope that he might excel on Friday.

"Obviously, he wouldn't make that start if Joba wouldn't have gone down," Girardi said. "But we're expecting him to come up and pitch the way he did in September."

Though Dan Giese was originally slated to start on Friday, the Yankees pushed him back to Saturday so that they could use him in relief at some point this week.

Pitchers deserve to win even when they don't have their A stuff. Too bad Halladay wouldn't get more support from the offence. If he did I wonder where he'd be record wise. I believe I read somewhere that in his losses ( 8 I think) the Jays had only scored 12 runs.

I don't understand Joe Girardi sometimes. The Yankees need to win games, and fast. Yet he decides to bench Damon (who is the leading hitter in the AL) and Giambi?

He thinks about match-ups far too much and its kind of frustrating. I'm guessing he benched them because the Yanks are facing a lefty. But lefty hitters are batting .340 or something off him.

Not really sure how he expects to win when the number 7-8-9-1 hitters are Sexson-Pudge-Melky-Christian. Kind of terrible.

YOUR Hero
08-11-2008, 09:10 PM
He's got too many choices. I've said it before, he's trying to get all his guys at bats and it might end up costing them a playoff spot. Rookie manager.

Dragon
08-11-2008, 09:28 PM
I dunno though. He really doesn't have that many GOOD choices.

Sexson is terrible and should barely ever play. And both Christian/Melky shouldn't be in the same lineup on the same day. One or the other is fine but both isn't a good thing.

It's definitely hurt the team a couple games this year though. He needs to just run a consistent lineup out there the rest of the way. He has the DH spot pretty much open so he can still give guys days off from the field.

YOUR Hero
08-11-2008, 09:30 PM
I never said he had good choices, just lots of choices and some of the names of those guys have had big numbers before so I guess he thinks he owes it to them. Rookie thinking.

Example: I'd never play Sexson, I'd leave him on the bench and if I made the playoffs, fine, he could come off the bench.

Dragon

The average shouldn't mean much when he gets on base as much as him and knocks in as many runs as he does.

Hanso Amore
08-12-2008, 12:40 PM
Exactly. Dunn is an 80s slugger. He has great OBP, runs scored, RBI and HRs.

How many guys hit 290 and dont produce nearly as many runs? It is more than worth it.

His slugging is good too. Basically, if you add 30 slap singles that mean nothing to his team's wins/loss, his average would be better and you would all be sucking his cock.

The fact that they have 6 games against TB and 6 games against Boston left is what can help them make a push. Its not gonna be easy but I don't think its out of the question.

Hughes and Pavano (lol) should be back soon. Joba too depending on how his throwing goes.

9 games back of the Rays is a large task obviously but they did lose Crawford and Longoria for a while. Crawford probably for the season.

Bottom line is the Yanks just need to start playing better, and quick.
