Ungrateful? What? Did I say I wasn't going to go? No...its just that today's game was the culmination of what I've seen for weeks now. About 90% of the team comes across as not giving a shit. I've seen no emotion, no hustle, nothing to make it look like they even care.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure I'll get more excited once it comes closer...and fortunately Pedro seems to be one of the few guys who give a shit. Its just the way they've been playing lately, I feel like I'll be sitting there watching the guys pack it in.

That's what fucks me off about the Mets right now, and it annoys me more than anything. You mention the Pirates and Royals...well, I actually DO have a friend who is a Pirates fan. They aren't doing that bad yet, but even when they lose, he doesn't mind as much because they tend to show heart. The Mets right now have not, and that's what's annoying me the most. If they seemed like they cared about the game and not just collecting their paychecks, I might not be so pissed off at them right now.

might already have been discussed but MLB is pushing instant replay and plan to use it mid-season...

I like the idea to review home runs, but adding it mid-season? seems like a strange time for a rule change.

Supreme Olajuwon

Yeah especially if one of the teams that got screwed earlier this year get left out of the playoffs and a team that makes the playoffs gets a review to their benefit. Could make some serious drama

Evil Vito
06-14-2008, 12:08 AM
Yeah I'm all for instant replay, adding it mid-season is weird but the sooner the better I think. Obviously they'll use it for home run calls, but anything else? Close plays at the plate could make for challenges too...just as long as they don't go overboard with it. Wonder if it'll work like the NFL where each team gets a set number of challenges, could add a little more strategy.

Definitely liked what I saw out of the Mets tonight, like a total 180 from the week of games previous...hopefully they can keep it up. Maybe Willie's job officially being on the line helped them out. :shifty:

Mets acquire Trot Nixon for either cash or a PTBNL. I've always liked Nixon, seems like a good hard-nosed player. Guess I'll be seeing his Mets debut tomorrow.

I do believe I've just seen the best tickets I'll ever have go up in smoke. The game was rained out, and they've scheduled a regular doubleheader tomorrow so people with tickets tomorrow's game get both games.

I'd like to give a big fuck you to MLB Scheduling for making the Mets fly from home out to the West Coast for a Monday game for the 2nd time in 2 weeks...if only they had a Monday offday they would have done a day-night doubleheader. :(

Evil Vito
06-15-2008, 10:34 AM
They pretty much are. Teams try to fit in a day-night doubleheader as much as possible because they can charge a whole new crowd for parking and stuff.
I just looked and apparently the tix for yesterday's game are exchangable for any 2008 Mets home game.....subject to availability. Meaning there's no chance in hell of ever seeing seats remotely like that again because they are probably sold out for each game. :(

Wang out of action at least six weeks
Right foot injuries threaten to end Yankees ace's season

NEW YORK -- The Yankees' starting rotation has been dealt a serious blow, as Chien-Ming Wang -- the Major Leagues' winningest pitcher over the last two-plus seasons -- could be lost for the remainder of the 2008 campaign.

The right-hander was examined on Monday in New York and has been diagnosed with a mid-foot sprain of the Lisfranc ligament of the right foot and a partial tear of the peroneal longus tendon of the right foot.

Wang will be on crutches and wear a protective boot for at least six weeks, the Yankees said.

According to that timetable, Wang would not be out of the boot until almost early August, and would require additional time to return his arm to Major League pitching condition.

The evaluations were made on Monday at the New York Presbyterian Hospital Columbia Medical Center, with Wang being examined by Yankees team physician Dr. Stuart Hershon and Dr. Jason Greisberg, a foot and ankle specialist.

Wang's injury is the second Lisfranc-related diagnosis for the Yankees this season, a rarity considering injuries of that type do not normally affect baseball players.

Right-handed reliever Brian Bruney slipped and fell during an April 23 game in Chicago and injured the Lisfranc ligament on his right foot. Like Wang, Bruney was able to avoid surgery and is eyeing a possible return to Major League duty in late July.

OMG, the Angels channel is the worst fucking baseball broadcast I have ever seen in my life. The announcers are terrible, huge homers, and talk about wins and losses for a pitcher like it's the most important stat ever "When you're 2-6, sometimes you don't even know if you're good enough to make it through an inning!" But in the 7th inning they did this thing where the announcers shut the hell up and the only camera angle they show is one from in the stands or something like you are supposed to be at the game. It is retarded. Also all of these fans stood up and looked into left field at the same like somethin was going on but there was fucking no explanation to this. If I was at that game I would be looking there too, what the hell.

Willie Randolph, Rick Peterson, and first base coach Tom Nieto all got the ax.

How Sandy Alomar Sr. survived is beyond me, as he's easily the worst 3B coach in the National league. I get that they value his knowledge of the game, but jeez, make him the Bench coach or 1B coach. I don't think I've seen a Met go first to third more than a few times all year, Alomar always tells them to hold at 2nd even when the outfielder doesn't have the ball yet.

But yeah, I have to say, awful job by Mets management on this one. You can't whip out the ax and hold it over Willie's neck for this long. They should have at least fired him before they go on the road trip to California.

The Yankees cant make a run with a patch work fucking rotation.

They better not make a trade. Adding Sabathia will not get them to the playoffs, but will cost them 4-5 top prospects. If they cant do it with what they got, they just better pack it in and hope to have a great offseason.

I dunno. If they added Sabathia they would be in a pretty good position. Pretty much the same position as we were before Wang got injured.

Sabathia
Pettitte
Moose
Joba
Rasner/Hughes/Kennedy/Wang if he makes it back

Thats a solid rotation in my mind.

With that said, I agree about not trading the farm for Sabathia. I think the Yanks should obviously make a run at Sabathia if he's available but not at the price of a Hughes, Joba, Cano, etc... which it would probably take to get him. Cashman pretty much just needs to offer what he did for Santana, no Hughes, Cano, etc...If something like Kennedy, Tabata + doesn't get something done then they just need to leave the team as is. Its pretty much the same opinion as when the Santana rumors were going on.

That looks good on paper, but your going to have to give up 2 guys to get Sabathia, and who knows how Moose will finish the year (he has ben so streaky.) Im thinking more long term though, When Moose and pettite retire, were fucked unless these young guys pan out, and CC has mad mileage on him.

Curt Schilling just announced on local radio he's having surgery on Monday, there is no chance he'll play this year and a really good chance he's "thrown his last pitch", that he won't be ready to even try and pitch until after the all-star break next year.

He said he'll still have the fire, but even after the surgery not sure of the body will have it left.

haha switch hitter vs. switch pitcher

I was sure I read (or saw) before that the pitcher, even if he's ambidextrous cannot change pitching hands once he's on the mound and declares his stance. Reading another article this AM, the batter and pitcher kept swapping around their stance (7 times?) until the ump decided it was the batter that had to declare his stance.
It'll be interesting to see what MLB rules, as they are now looking into it.

HOUSTON -- The Houston Astros have released Shawn Chacon, opting to cut the right-hander a day after he reportedly grabbed general manager Ed Wade by the neck and threw him to the ground.

The team requested waivers on Chacon on Thursday for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release. If he isn't claimed by another major league team by Monday, waivers will expire and his contract will be terminated without pay.

----------------------------------

Ok, help me understand because this is the one area of sports I just never get. So, how can they just terminate his contract like that? I can understand that they can relase him or whatever, but don't they owe him the money he signed for? I'll never understand this.

Together, making one left fielder, they have hit .184 with two home runs and 30 RBI, good for worst in the National League.

Well I can see that but he said it was good for baseball which I took as its good since its a small market team with a low payroll competing with 2 of the biggest spenders in all of baseball in their division, which I think is funny coming from a Mets fan. As I think about there is other reasons why its good but that's the biggest reason that jumps out to me.

As I said I do think its good but I'd rather it be a team with a little more history or something, even if the Rays start to do good I can't see a lot of people in the Tampa Bay area starting to get behind them. Would rather see a team like Pittsburgh or something pull this off - not a team that has changed their uniforms about 8 times in their short 10 year history.

I forgot which positions the players vote for - but apparently they vote for the reserves and are not allowed to vote for their own team. So with that in mind I guess it makes sense that Tek got in based on reputation...although it also means nobody in the league bothered to look at his stats. :o

Anyway...went to the game last night. Mad ridiculous, love the environment. I wanted to make sure I got to go to Yankee Stadium one more time before it closed, picked the perfect game for it. Wasn't rooting for either team, just a good game. It was good to see the rookie win it.

Yeah, I think I read that in his last 100 innings he's had an ERA around 2.10 or something. Just shows how terrible his first 4 or 5 starts were. Surprised the Sabathia deal went down so quickly though, seems like these things usually take forever to get done.

Great move for the Brewers though. If both Sheets and Sabathia leave to FA (everyone is saying they both want to), the Brewers would get like four first round picks in next years draft for them.

funny....I seem to remember him saying the same thing about Santana. The Home Run Derby needs to take a tip from the Slam Dunk Competition and let non-All Stars compete in it. Nobody cares about how many 330 ft homers Grady Sizemore can get. People would much rather see Ryan Howard and Adam Dunn trying to hit balls off the facade.
