Horses can swim, right? Maybe we can ride our horses across rivers?

All depends what R* does really. You can probably use them to get across deep river areas Marston can drown on. If not, we're gonna be doing alot of riding to find a shallow area/bridge/ferry.

And no, I didn't read IGN's preview.

Anyone in the US that wanted to watch the 30 minute RDR movie on Fox, it's been moved back. It's now showing on May 29 at midnight/11:00c. Judging by the way they are explain the movie, it could spoil the start of the games story.

That's kinda fucked.

It makes no sense to spoil the games story. I'd have thought they would have had the movie lead up to the start of the games story. We'll all have RDR by then, so we wont be spoiling anything for ourselves.

Someone over at IGN pointed out a detail in the RDR advert I posted above. At 0:06 there is graffiti scratched onto the side of the railroad. It says "They sell souls cheap here."
A hint at something in the game or a random detail like the graffiti in GTA IV?

First hands-on impressions of the final code:

It's a long article so I'll set it as spoilers.
There are certain games you love from the very first moments. Half-Life was a classic example – its opening sequence was so assured and so immersive, it set you up perfectly for the grandstanding adventure to come. Super Mario 64 with its immediately captivating world was the same… For me, Red Dead Redemption will surely soon be on that list.

I played the finished code for four hours last week and the first time I whistled for my horse and it galloped toward me, muscles rippling, utterly convincing animation (they motion captured a horse – on a treadmill) that was it, I was in. For the first ten minutes, I just trotted up and down the dusty streets of Armadillo, lapping up the perfectly replicated Western iconography; the lone rider slowly sauntering into town, the drunken gunmen lounging on the steps of the saloon, the prostitutes languidly promenading the balconies, the balls of tumbleweed blowing past…

It's 1908 and the outlaw John Marston has been left for dead by his gang after a bloody shoot-out. For him, it's a chance to start again, to settle down with his wife and leave the criminal life way behind him. But as all fans of the Western genre know – no one gets out. Soon, a group of sinister government agents are beating down his door, demanding that he track down his old companions. To secure his services, they kidnap his wife. And the game begins.

Red Dead Redemption is a vast, open-world adventure, featuring the largest landscape Rockstar has ever built, and around 450 individual characters. Alongside the main story missions, players will set off on dozens of minor side-tasks, encounters and objectives, all the time earning fame and - if they behave – honour. In a structural sense, perhaps, it's very much the Grand Theft Auto model, but within a dauntingly immense rural environment that features over 40 different types of animals, an active eco-system, and an astonishingly well-realised sense of history.

Indeed, the early twentieth century setting is a masterstroke. This isn't the mythical heyday of the old west; that culture is in its death throes. Throughout the game, technology is encroaching on the area like a virus. At first, it's the railroads carving through the landscape, but as you travel north you encounter the first confused telephone users bellowing into handsets, and later, the first production line motorcars. John Marston is a man at odds with this coming era; he's a dinosaur. And this sense of growing displacement adds poignancy to the action,

Yet, for the most part, this is a game about wide-open space, about freedom and discovery. One of the worries with a rural setting is that there will be nothing going on out there. But this is not the case. As Rockstar has promised, the landscape is filled with random encounters – you may pass sheriffs chasing down an outlaw, or some poor prospector being bullied by gunmen. Often, I just headed out onto a ridge and watched – in the distance you might pick up the wisps of smoke from gunfire, or dust flying up from a galloping horse; both could lead to profitable encounters. Help a distressed local and they may give you cash, equipment or a treasure map.

The more you do this, the more your honour and fame ratings rise – and soon people will come to you with their troubles. You will, for example, often see a question mark icon on your radar map in the bottom left of the screen; head over and you'll find a civilian with a side-mission – it'll be some sob story about cattle rustlers or a missing family member, but it's another way to make some cash, and some of these will add intriguing long-running sub-plots to your adventure.

But really, the pleasure is just being out there, galloping about, discovering the world. You see armadillos scuttling through the bushes, wolf packs pacing the plains, buffalo slowing trudging along bluffs and breaches. You can hunt animals if you like – shooting and then skinning them, to sell their skins at the market. You can also just watch as the sun sets, sending orange rays across the scrublands, or stand out in the billowing rain as the lighting momentarily illuminates some abandoned outpost or hanging tree in the middle of nowhere. There are also numerous GTA-like mini-challenges out here, like shooting a set number of vultures, or blasting a series of items within a time limit. If you're an obsessive completist, you'll be in your element here.

Apologies, another quick GTA allusion. In GTA IV, your actions cleverly become part of the social and media landscape; that messy bank robbery you pulled will appear as salacious fodder on the in-game news channel. Here, it's the same. Kind of. You can pick up a newspaper for a dollar and read a report of your last gunfight – it'll be there amid humorous adverts for health-reviving chewing tobacco. Better yet, if you take a ride out into the wilderness at night, you may stumble across groups of travellers telling campfire yarns about your endeavours – a beautiful touch.

The strong sense of characterisation is also hugely familiar: I've seen a fraction of the game, but have already encountered some memorable personalities. Martial Johnson is a highlight, a laconic and reluctant lawman, just trying to keep his crappy town on the right side of hell. He's given immense gravitas by an excellent voice acting performance that makes a mockery of Heavy Rain's many travails into wooden lifeless recitation. I also loved the dandy New York reporter Jimmy Saint who's come down here to write about the West for the ladies back in NYC. "I'm gonna have some wild adventures!" he cries – and you just know it's going to go horribly wrong for him. And of course, this wouldn't be a Rockstar title without at least one knockabout stereotype – enter Irish, the whisky-swilling ne'er-do-well who'd double cross his grandma for a dram of liquor.

The control mechanic is a successfully refined version of the GTA IV system, with some context-relevant additions. The left trigger draws and aims your gun, an action that's considered provocative by most of the population so it's best not to practice it in a crowded street. The amount of auto-aim is decided by the skill level you select at the beginning of the game. Go for Casual and hitting the button will lock onto a target and stay with them until you let go; in Normal, it'll lock on until you move the right analogue stick, providing some manual ability to re-target; and on Expert, there's no auto-aim at all, cowboy. It's a nice flexible set-up, and though it's easy to pinpoint enemies, these are crude weapons and they don't always fire exactly where you're aiming – a realistic touch that rarely frustrates (perhaps because sometimes my aim was off, but I still managed to clip my target thanks to the vagaries of firing an antiquated Colt pistol at a moving target 50 yards away.)

The right shoulder tab locks you on to cover, from where you can comfortably shoot at enemies without too much exposure. Tapping it again releases you, and it's a really quick mechanic allowing you to build a nice rhythm as you approach an enemy stronghold, snaking in and out of barrels, outhouses and boulders (there's also a crouch mechanic, accessible by pressing the left analogue stick, which adds to your sneaking power.)

The famed Dead Eye system is triggered by pressing the right stick. This slows time and allows you to place pinpoint shots on your target – as long as there's some juice in your gauge (easily charged by buying tonics at the local store, or simply by successfully killing people). Sure, bullet time systems have fallen out of fashion, but this one is awesome fun, bringing to mind Peckinpah's fabulous slow-mo shoot-outs. The system can be upgraded twice throughout the game – at first, you need to manually place your shots, but later the system will automatically pinpoint body areas, so you just have to point, shoot and go and loot the resulting carcass (which is a great way to come by extra cash, ammo and other goodies).

The running mechanic is interesting. You repeatedly hit the A button until you get to the speed you want, then keep it pressed. This works on the horse too, allowing you to reach an impressive gallop – though the beast's stamina wears down quickly, especially when you venture off the dirt tracks and onto rough country terrain. If you're riding with another character, once you've reached the same speed as their horse, you can lock in to a sort of cruise control mode, which allows you to relax and listen to the dialogue – lots of vital mission information is often rattled out en route to the next bloody showdown.

Shoot-outs are just gloriously entertaining. One minute you're pinned in behind a rocky outcrop, blasting from a distance with your rifle, the next, you're whistling for your horse, then galloping in, blasting your scuttling enemies as they run for cover. You've probably seen the extravagant bullet impact animations - stricken enemies writhe with each entry, or, when on the wrong end of a shotgun blast, simply fly backwards in a grotesque somersault. It possibly shouldn't be utterly satisfying, but it is. At one point I used Dead Eye to shoot an enemy off his horse, then, as he span hopelessly in the air, plugged him once more before he hit the floor. I'm sorry, but it was beautiful.

Naturally, there's a whole host of weapons to collect, including revolvers, shotguns, sniper rifles, knives and Gatling guns. As you venture toward the north of the map, you'll encounter the first automatic handguns, adding quite a sting to your fire-rate. And of course there's the lasso, for capturing bad guys. Bounty hunting missions are another nice way to earn cash, and you'll usually earn double for bringing the criminals back to the jail in one piece (though mine usually get returned with a few sundry bullet wounds to the legs – well, they run vast, these villains). Brilliantly, there's also a range of equine transport options from mules to thoroughbred stallions; players can even steal a stage coach and scorch through the wilderness with four horses under their command (for real fans, one challenge involves a stage coach race.)

I haven't yet sampled the multiplayer, but it's an intriguing prospect. Alongside standard competitive deathmatch and team deathmatch options, you can go for the Free Roam mode, which will drop up to 16 players into a compete rendition of single-player landscape, complete with officers of the law. From here, you can form a posse, hunt animals or engage in challenges – it's essentially a glorified lobby system; but a lobby system in which you and your friends can attack a bear with a hunting knife.

So yes, I'm four hours in, and I can't wait to return. Rockstar San Diego (aided by Rockstar's other studios – they've developed something of a hive mind approach these days) would seem to have created an incredible open-world experience that just oozes Western authenticity. Of course, Leone will be chucked about as a frame of reference, and he's definitely there in the visual poetry of the game, the vultures circling in the dying sunlight, the riders swooping into town through billowing dust clouds.

But more than that, I see the raw brutality and grit, the sheer nihilism, of Peckinpah and Walter Hill. Red Dead Redemption is an existential drama – it's you alone in a chaotic world. You can add to that chaos (the temptation to just mosey into a saloon and shoot the place up is difficult to resist at times) or you can craft some dignity out of it. But there is always somebody out there waiting, somebody you need to kill.

Yeah, there are cars later in the game. I don't think they'll be very good to drive with them being early versions and with the time period have few roads.

A little more news. R* are revealing info on some DLC at 8am eastern time. Until then, they gave us this "sneak peak".

There was a Spanish preview that gave us a few new bits of info. Nothing here is really a spoiler. Just some facts about map size and how missions work.

Edit: I set it to spoilers, just incase.

- From the mouth of Dan Houser: "This world is twice as large that presented in GTA: San Andreas. "
- Missions aren't accessible at all times of the day. The people you do missions for have to sleep as well.
- If you really suck at a mission the game will give you the option to skip to the next part of the mission
- Both the poncho and the Elegant Suit can be bought
- Infinite bounty missions
- Killing a dog gets a $5 bounty. Killing a woman gets $40. Killing a man gets $50. The prices reflect the attitudes of the time.
- More difficult than GTA
- Both people and objects react to fire and gunshots

and, I'm sure this was mentioned before but incase it wasn't:

@Kotowari Red Dead has a 24 hr day/night cycle & full weather system - rainstorms, snow, puddles that dry in sun, & clouds that cast shadows.

Edit: Some more details from the same Spaish preview. Mostly translated quotes:

Destructable environments: "Of course, much of the furniture (bottles, windows, chairs, tables, wood ...) reacts after being hit by our bullets." Fire will burn buildings and the decor and many other game elements, but also the enemies, who squirm on the floor in tremendous pain. Shooting an explosive barrel will cause a shockwave that will send an enemy flying through the air or coughing in the dust.

Quote: Unlike GTA IV, where the various parts of New York were separated by bridges we were unlocking, Red Dead Redemption we have seen no such limitations on the stage. Probably exist and, in fact, it should be, but during our six hours of play we did not feel that there are limits to separate the three regions of Red Dead Redemption, something that makes us think that we will offer a degree of freedom never before seen in the genre.

In game GPS: We can even score a point on it for the particular GPS of our horse guide us through the radar "in game", with a suggested route depending on existing roads.

Game world: "But one important thing: this time we can read subtitles easily." and "The landscape boasts probably the best lighting system ever seen in a sandbox game."

No, seasons change. It's just you wont see snow in the middle of New Austin. I'm sure I posted a list of notes from a preview that mentioned seasons changing dynamically and not with the story. I can't find it anywhere in this thread.

The game has full day/night, weather and season cycles.

Yeah, a lot of reviews are coming in. It's got 9/10 from GamesTM, 9.75 from Game Informer and some Dutch magazine gave it ninety-something out of a hundred.

Some reviews have a lot of spoilers, though. Like the one Dronepool posted, I think.

IGN did an article about playing as a bad guy with a good guy article coming on Monday. I wont post the whole article because I don't want to ruin all the fun of trying things out for yourself but the article writer says he uppercutted a cow with a bowie knife and, when he pointed his gun at an NPC who was sitting in a chair in a saloon with his feet on the table, the NPC fell back, out of his seat in shock and hit the piano.

Today, we are very happy to unveil some of the Red Dead Redemption features that will await you at the Rockstar Games Social Club come May 18th.

For two years now, the Social Club (www.rockstargames.com/socialclub) has been our private club for players to track their game progress and stats, compete on leaderboards, unlock exclusive game content, and take part in official multiplayer events with live stream and chat.

Red Dead Redemption continues in that tradition and takes things to an entirely new level with a revamped website and seamless integration into the game itself. From within the in-game menus, you will be able to easily register for Social Club and automatically link it to your Xbox LIVE or PlayStation Network account. Then when accessing the Social Club website, you can complete your account and unlock 7 exclusive cheats right to your game.

At the forthcoming Red Dead Redemption area of the actual Social Club website – members will be able to access:

Social Club Challenges – We’ve stockpiled a collection of exclusive cheats that will only be accessible by Social Club members who complete a series of special challenges. The first of which, available at game launch on May 18th, will be the Pike’s Basin Challenge. To unlock this challenge, Social Club members must beat the "Justice in Pike's Basin" mission early in the game and complete the "Pike's Basin" gang hideout by helping rancher Errol Hewitt defeat a gang of ruthless cattle rustlers. Social Club members can then take on the Pike’s Basin Challenge – face off against the rustlers and:

• Kill 3 enemies in one Dead Eye burst
• Drag a gang member through the basin (by lassoing him on horseback)
• Kill all enemies while on horseback

Completion will post your best time and medals attained to a special Social Club Challenges leaderboard – and garner you the exclusive "Guns Blazing" cheat (ability to shoot bullets that could set your enemies on fire). Stay tuned for many more Social Club Challenges to be revealed at the Social Club after game release.

Rockstar Challenges – Pitch in with everyone else playing online to cumulatively accomplish a grand challenge and unlock a special reward. Look for the very first one, The Strike It Rich! Rockstar Challenge, to kick off in late May after enough people have made their mark in the world of Red Dead Redemption. Whether you earn it, win it or steal it – grab as much money as you can to reach the grand total bank cume and unlock the exclusive Posse T-Shirt for your Xbox LIVE or PSN avatar. At the Social Club, you’ll also be able to keep track of the current community progress towards this goal as well as get information on special inside tips and tricks to help get there. Stay tuned for more Rockstar Challenges to be announced.

The Blackwater Ledger – A special and dynamic Red Dead Redemption community edition of the in-game newspaper keeping community members apprised of all the latest goings on across the game world – from New Austin to Nuevo Paraiso to West Elizabeth. The newspaper will report daily news from the frontier including who’s earned the highest bounties, a business column on what products are most purchased from local merchants, and a blotter of which weapons are being used the most. Registered members will see a snapshot report of their own latest status of Honor and Fame, as well as Experience, Rank, Game Progress and more.

My Stats – There, you will be able to track your in-game progress down to the very last detail – from how you performed in each single-player mission to which weapons are working the best for you by yielding the most kills and accuracy, to extensive multiplayer stats tracking your performance in each session played online. You will also be able to compare each and every statistic against your Social Club Friends. If you’re a Social Club member and have not yet linked in your Friends from Xbox LIVE or PlayStation Network – click here for info on how to do so.

You will also be able to compare in detail against your Social Club Friends.

The 100% Checklist – Exclusively at Rockstar Social Club, completionists on a quest for 100% in Red Dead Redemption can use a detailed guide to see exactly what they’ve unlocked – and what’s remaining, along with info, tips and a map legend to help you on your way.

Official Red Dead Redemption Social Club Multiplayer Events – The highly-anticipated first official Red Dead Redemption Social Club Multiplayer Events will kick off starting the weekend after game release on Friday May 21st (for PS3 on PSN; at 4-7 PM Eastern) and Saturday May 22nd (for Xbox 360 on Xbox LIVE; at 1-4 PM Eastern). Celebrate the release of Red Dead and play with and against a slew of us Rockstars worldwide – including members of Rockstar San Diego. As with all official events, Social Club members will be able to additionally participate in the live chat at the events page and watch a live stream of all the action as it goes down. Click here for the full multiplayer calendar announced through the end of June and expect continuing official Red Dead multiplayer events through the summer and beyond…

RDR is supposedly getting delayed by a week for parts of Europe. Either because of Ash clouds or production issues. Sweden is the only one I've read is effected but I'm hoping R* clears it up if it's true or not and who, if anyone, is really effected.

Edit: R* are saying it's still being released all over Europe on 21st, even in Sweden. False alarm, I guess.

Here's a run down of what was said on the show, if you'd rather not listen for the whole hour:

New info

- Takes about 15-20 minutes to travel by horse from one side to the other on horsetrail.
- No lead platform. Same game for 360 and PS3.
- No duel wielding.
- Co-op multiplayer is online and system link. No splitscreen.
- Cars aren't driveable. Missions where you are in a car though.
- Replay missions after you complete them (He never added this to his list, for some reason. - Drakul)

Lightning Round (quick fire Q&A)

- No comment on trading market in multiplayer
- No comment on Poker in free roam.

What do they mean 15-20 minutes from one side to the other? The entire map, or just one section/county/territory?

Drakul
05-12-2010, 04:00 PM
The whole map. That's using the horse trails though which I'd imagine would be designed to make crossing the map quick and easy. I'd think time would depend on how fast your horse was, too. The guy was probably just estimating.
Even if it is only 20 minutes, the fun comes from leaving the beaten path and find the longer, rougher route with stuff going on, right?

It's still better than GTA IV. You could drive from the airport to the far west side of the map in about 2 minutes.

Disturbed316

Haha there was a rumour going round I was in Florida, but not NZ, couldn't handle the censorship they have over there.

Not being able to drive cars is a good thing, would make horses pretty redundant if there was a choice.

Drakul
05-15-2010, 12:22 AM
They probably don't even know about it. They voted Fable II their game of the year or something once because it was friendly towards animals. Even though you could blast rabbits and crows to bits with a shotgun.

Drakul
05-15-2010, 12:33 AM
Yeah but we're not cute and/or fluffy so PETA don't care.

The game is in store stockrooms now so it's too late for PETA to have it's way. They do have a little influence, though. They managed to get Pitbulls taken out of Mafia II. Originally, the idea was for pitbulls to be used as a kind of weapon.

Kalyx triaD
05-15-2010, 12:37 AM
I remember that. That's not a game I'm interested in but I hated that some non-gaming self-righteous group got their way - and then not even support the game with ads or anything after the publisher appeased them. That's fuckshit as we call it where I'm from, and I have very little patience with how PETA's been prancing around.

Drakul
05-15-2010, 12:48 AM
It annoys me a little. Don't they fall under "extremists" by definition through some of their "stunts"? I don't know if it was PETA or a similar group but one group wanted a lab to stop using animal testing a few years ago. They didn't get their way so they dug up the top lab guys dead grandfather and wouldn't return the corpse until they got their way. I think the same group did other extreme things to the lab and it's employees but can't remember them.

That's extremism, right?

Why did they object to a pitbull in Mafia II and not object against the entire series of hunting games that come out every year?

Edit: here is the story I was talking about: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/staffordshire/4762481.stm

I have no idea why hunting games (and hunting in general) doesn't warrant their attention. They just want the media attention.

Drakul
05-15-2010, 03:03 AM
They stuck a bunch of motion capture balls on a horse and just recorded it as it ran on a treadmill at different speeds. That's why the movements are realistic.

The horses do look great as well. I'm really impressed by the graphics as a whole. With games this big, graphics sometimes suffer but R* pulled it off. Look at that rock face:
http://media.rockstargames.com/products/rockstar/screenshot%20gallery/reddeadredemption/sc/1280/2.jpg

Plus the clouds and lighting is the best I've seen, personally. I read that the sun can effect how well you snipe in MP if the sun is behind you or infront of you. I've not seen evidence of it myself. I'm liking the sound of heavy rain causing puddles to form on the ground too.

Avoid any RDR site. The games leaked and streams and spoilers are everywhere.

PETA doesn't get criminal. They just fund criminal activities through knowingly sponsoring third parties up to and including domestic terrorism. Big difference.

Also, hunting games and hunting in general has drawn their attention. I mean, I'm not a big fan of PETA (In part because of such aforementioned acts), but it's retarded to make a false double standard in order to bash them.

Watched an hour or so of streaming shit last night. Game looks great, even though the stream was a shitty resolution. I mean, you had to put up with /b/tards foaming at the mouth with racism, but the game itself gave a strong impression.

The games budget was said to be $100 million back before they wrapped things up in development and started the ad campaign. They are using RDR to see if R* SD can make a AAA title. If it's up for download and people DL it, it's not going to help R* SD out much.

Apparantly, the SNL finale had or will have a 10 minute RDR commercial. Whenever the finale was. The internet says it was the 15th.

I'm frankly baffled that games still use cheats anymore in the old sense of entering random button presses or using "passwords" or whatever. Even games that disable unlocking achievements when you put in a cheat code can't justify their practicality/usage anymore. Long story short, I think it's long past time that 'traditional' cheats go by the wayside.

If I'm understanding what people are saying, the cheats in RDR are unlocked Perfect Dark style rather than by inputting a code. I could be misunderstanding it, though.

I think there will always be a place for 'God Modes', I don't use cheats often but I'm sure people could care less and wanna screw around.

I've not cheated in a game to progress since GTA III on the Ps2. I do use cheats in games like Perfect Dark if it's fun cheats like DK mode or if I'm replaying a section I completed legitimately already.
I think cheats still have a place but we need more fun cheats like the old days and less dull cheats like "All weapons" or "Invincibility". Cheats that help you progress should block achievements and shouldn't be usable online. I think I've said this already.

R* has the right idea with the Guns Blazing cheat they revealed on their site. Bullets that make the enemy burst into flames when shot is the kind of thing I want to see.

Some guy just ruined the story for me!!!

He made a topic over at the IGN boards with the title "Gamespot review 10/10!". IGN mods had made it clear that unmarked spoilers are an instant ban, so I clicked it thinking it was safe but the guy had typed up the ending.

I tried to dismiss it thinking "yeah, I doubt it." but one of the mods deleted it, banned him and made another thread telling everyone that the guy responsible was banned. Going by what the mod said, I guess the guy was telling the truth.

I'm hoping it wasn't the ending and just a specific part of the story. If it was the ending, I'll not feel so gutted if they do a GTA IV style episode DLC. That would mean I've just had "part 1" spoiled and any future episodes can be played unspoiled.

Still, RDRs story has been blown for me. I was really looking forward to the game and the story as you could tell by the constant updating of this thread.

Still, RDRs story has been blown for me. I was really looking forward to the game and the story as you could tell by the constant updating of this thread.

:(

LOL. Seriously, I feel bad for you, but how hard is it to simply not go into a topic like that? Gamespot has their own site and if you're really interested, why not, you know, go there?

If you pre ordered at GAME, you'll be getting it early. I just got an email from them saying they were "processing my order" and that "funds wont be taken until your order is dispatched". I checked my bank and they've taken the money already. So, I'll probably get it before Friday. Wednesday wouldn't be too unrealistic, would it?

I preordered from Game, doubt I'll be that lucky though.

I thought it would be safe because it didn't say "spoilers" in the title. It didn't crossed my mind that it would be a trick.
I was using the Wii at the time because I thought this PC was being used and GS doesn't like loading on the Wii so it was quicker just to click the topic title for the notes.

Speaking of reviews, IGN scored the game 9.8.

I actually didn't know that, I just figured they were kind of dickish. Some interesting facts:

PETA Classified as "Domestic Terrorists" by USDA (http://www.greenisthenewred.com/blog/peta-terrorists-usda-form/2374/)
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has been classified as as a “terrorist threat” (http://www.greenisthenewred.com/blog/wp-content/Images/aphis_facility_security_-profile_peta.pdf) in a document created by the U.S. Department of Agriculture

Uggggggggggh. So I love this game, but holy fucking balls it is glitchy. Have gotten stuck on 2 loading screens so far. Had it drop me back to main menu from multiplayer a couple times. Went into the outfitter and there were no character models at all. Had to go all the way out to single player and back in before it fixed it. Also, the DLC servers are experiencing 'issues' so I couldn't even access my pre-order content.

Some people have played for hours without a glitch and other have had tons of glitches.

After all this time, the game seems to be falling apart at the seams for some people. I think we'll get a patch pretty fast considering how much they have advertised and hyped the game up.

Why did no review other than IGN mention bugs and glitches? Even then, IGN made them sound so minor as to not matter.

I should get the game in the post tomorrow, 2 days before official UK release.

NAT can be tricky though. My router's PnP made my Xbox show open NAT, but it really wasnt 'open' because i had connection issues with certain people such as Fallen Angel. No game i hosted he could connect, or vice versa.

So i ended up setting up a static DHCP for the xbox and opening the ports, and now i can connect to everyone, and the NAT is still open.

So a simple network test that shows NAT open isnt always accurate.

I was riding my horse threw the huge almost endless plains and all of a sudden my horse took a pretty bad landing i thought he broke his neck. when i dust myself off i notice my horse was not showing no sign of life i was in the middle of no where. far away from any town r village..(shot out to Terry Funk and Amarillo Texas). i had my GTA instincts and whistled next thing u know a stallion come galapping towards me from a far view..this horse saved my life!

He said something like "How good are you with your iron?" BLAM! Right through the head.

The randomness of this game is truly awesome. Probably only got a couple of hours play time in, but have had quite a few moments so far. Favorite has to be me completely failing at my first hunt. Were I came up behind three or so deer on my horse and tried to deadeye all of them in one go with my pistol. Ended up getting the two on the right, but somehow managed to paint my own horse instead of the deer when going for the one on the left. So I went from full gallop on my horse to a dead stop, and being thrown painfully straight to the ground. I couldn't stop laughing for a minute or so. Love this game.

Damn Drakul you're missing the insanity.

It took a while to get connected due to server issues or whatever, but eventually me, RoXer, Alava, and Fignuts got together for Free Roam. The first 30 minutes was running around getting lost in some canyon trying to find each other. It also took a while to understand the host abilities, way points, and other options.

Alva found killing me hilarious for a while, but the joke got old once you see the game respawns you literally a mile away from your group (even if you're in a posse). The long walk or ride back makes you want to kill your killer. Sometimes you get lucky and spawn on a beeline back to your group. AND SOMETIMES YOU END UP ACROSS A MASSIVE RIVER.

We did some co-op missions which were kinda like terrorist hunts, and some of those were pretty intense. One mission had one of us moving a mine cart while the others had to cover him from a legion of badguys. We also found a stagecoach, but we keep crashing it. It can hold up to six people, all able to shoot from their vantage point.

You can run over guys with horses or stagecoach, animation is funny.

I challenged Figgy to a knife fight on top of a hill. He joined but reinterpreted knife fight to include throwing knives. He won, until Alva shot him.

Fignuts started trouble with the law and we had to shoot cops for a bit. The AI are straight shooters and we were ran out of town once or twice.

We never ran into a train oddly enough...

Map is epically huge.

Did some competitive games and Gold Rush was pretty cool, but I must say the starting Mexican stand-offs are the funniest parts. Fignuts survived one by hiding in the fray. He picked me off after I though I won. Coward.

RoXer ran into a bear and got owned.

This game is fucking sweet.

alvarado52
05-19-2010, 04:29 AM
you forgot to mention the time i spawned across the river and had to run away from a bear while riding my slow ass donkey.

Needless to say, this game has all sorts of possibilities, and all sorts of awesome.

They DO need to work out some sort of spawn button though, so you can just spawn with your posse (or posse leader) at any time, as opposed to only when you accept the initial invite.

Kalyx triaD
05-19-2010, 04:32 AM
Let's not forget you volunteering to be our test dummy to see how deep one river was. The test was successful; me and Fignuts went around as Alva drowned.

Think we should go hunting next time.

RoXer
05-19-2010, 04:38 AM
Yeah let's do hunting tomorrow.

Supposedley if you are far away enough from your posse leader there is a spawn near leader option. Guess we missed it.

RoXer
05-19-2010, 04:43 AM
Also, Fignuts got eaten by a bear. Not me.

I think I understand the party system. Free Roam can 16 max. Anyone can posse up. If 1 of those 16 choose to play an actual deathmatch/ctf, it will ask all 16 in free roam. Those who say yes go and do their thing.

Question is, after the deathmatch/ctf will those who played get put back in the same free roamlobby as before?

I wish the servers would cooperate. We could make a TPWW free roam and do our own thing with/against ourselves. God knows we all have this.

Friend of mine went invisible. I had an invisible weapon for a while. There are a few glitches I've come across, but no game breakers and nothing too horrible. My biggest gripe is trying to connect, which is no doubt due to the traffic the game's seeing.

That and everyone and their brother seems to want to shoot at you. I killed one guy four times in a row because he shot at me, then I killed him, and he kept chasing me down. Actually, that time was kinda fun. But in general, Free Play is more fun in private games and it's not really a game flaw.

Have been pretty much completely oblivious to this game so I've not got caught up in the hype. Been watching and reading some stuff and it looks pretty swish. Going to very much enjoy picking it up for cheap in fuck knows how many months time.

Thought about it for a while if this should be under a spoiler tag but basically its the achievement that requires train tracks, a lasso, and someone to put on the tracks.

Wish my uncle would hurry up and go to bed. I decided to take a break and watch some 30 rock, but after two episodes I'm jonesing to play some more.

Kalyx triaD
05-20-2010, 03:08 AM
Fucking connection issues at the top. The lack of a lasso and active train is kinda disappointing as well. Like GTA4, the various mini-games aren't available for multiplayer and although you can still pick herbs, you can't harvest dead animals for goods.

But like GTA4, you have an open world where all sorts of wackiness can go down. And that's not even counting the competitive modes you can take your group to. This game is boss.

El Fangel
05-20-2010, 03:09 AM

Was playing some team shootout with a friend earlier today on Mcfarlane's ranch. At one point we were charging down the main street towards the rail road tracks with my friend in the lead. All of the sudden one of the bulls comes out of nowhere and destroys my friend. Actually killed him he was hit so hard.

Totally ignorant of this game until this thread. Jesus Fuck. Buying tomorrow.

Johnny McNasty
05-20-2010, 03:18 AM
There is your standard free for all called shoot out, then your standard team death match called Team shoot out. Then there is a couple different capture the flag(capture the bag) like games for both free for all or teams. Plus you have your free roam where you can basically run about and do anything you can think of. Also you have bandit hideouts you can try to take over, hunting challenges, survival challenges,(collecting stuff) and other cool stuff.

A cool thing about the competitive games is the mexican standoff deal at the beginning of each. It really is immense.

Kalyx triaD
05-20-2010, 03:19 AM
Oh...

So what is multiplayer like? Deathmatch? Objective based? Free roam? What was alvarado and them playing when hunting?

Everything starts at free roam. You have the whole map to you and whoever you invited/joined. Around the map are areas where you can initiate missions which (as far as we know) are gang hunts putting us against bandits. Some areas will also take us to competitive modes (amongst the party).

The host can start searching games and take his party with him. That's the best way to get some pretty big games. The modes are wild west variations of classic stuff; deathmatch, team deathmatch, ctf, and others. We went hunting as a free roam activity rather than an official mode, but since we couldn't harvest animals we gave it a rest.

Johnny McNasty
05-20-2010, 03:23 AM
You do get titles and experience for the hunting challenges though. Plus I heard there was certain areas where you can initiate a hunting horde thingy, where your posse is attacked by a swarm after swarm of dangerous animals.

Blitz

Yeah, that was pretty much the most awesome highlight of multiplayer for me, so far.

Also, I just want to reiterate how awesome throwing knives are. If you are on a horse, and target someone, you can pass them and do an over-the-shoulder toss. It's so badass.

Yeah, the only missins open right now are hunting down gangs but they are bringing out a Co-Op mission pack in a months time. The missions are much more varied. See (http://tpww.net/forums/showpost.php?p=3055692&postcount=265)?

nah. I havn't even tried yet. Just glanced at the map.

Also, found out where the hunting challenges, where bears and cougars spawn in waves, are. For bears, it's bearclaw cavern(duh), and for cougars, it's tanner ranch. Dunno if there are any for wolves or coyotes. Also, you might have to reach a certain level in your hunter rank. I don't know.

Holy crap, just noticed Tesco refunded my card because they took it early due to it being a pre-order and I've got a dispatch note today and they've taken no money (they can't, no money on the card)

Just hope this one turns up. Be funny if it didn't and I got a second refund, though.

Yes! Just got my Limited Edition through the post. A day early.
It's come in a "shiney" sleeve that opens like a book to a picture of Marston and the deputies riding their horses.
The 3 exclusive bonuses and the OST come on a card with one code. The code can be used online for an MP3 DL of the OST and the other 3 are used on the 360, obviously. Can't wait to try it out.

Wont get to until tonight though. The rest of the day is busy.

While it's installing, I read the back of the instruction book. I do't know if you've read it but it says signing in to the R* Social Club ingame will give you the bonus "Gentlemans Attire" outfit the next time you save at a camp or safehouse.

It grants you access to a special "High Stakes Club".
