11 Days left gentlemen and ladies if present, been watching some preseason games and as a Habs fan all I can say is goddamn, its going to be a long year.

Hmm, how about we make some predictions for what we think will happen at the end of year

Richard Trophy
1) Ovechkin - 61 Goals
2) Stamkos - 53
3) Kovalchuk - 51

Art Ross
1) Ovechkin - 121 Points
2) Stamkos - 118 Points
3) Crosby - 117 Points

Selke Winner - Datsyuk

Norris - Tyler Myers

Vezina - Tuukka Rask

Western Conference Leader - San Jose - 55W-20L-7T
Eastern Conference Leader - Washington - 60W-15L-7T

Stanley Cup Champion - Vancouver Canucks - 54-21-7

I see Stamkos being in the 38-44 goal range myself.

Loads of people think Taveres will explode in his sophmore season (like Stamkos did), but I don't. Just due to the fact his supporting cast isn't there like it is in TB. 30-34 goals is a possibility, I'd love to see him explode, BTW.

I think the Sedins getting better.

Ovy might score 70-75 goals this year.

The Mighty Duche is going to run wild on the NHL this year

El Fangel
09-26-2010, 07:45 PM
Duchene should put up loads.

Wanna see Evander Kane vs Matt Cocke 2 :)

El Fangel
09-27-2010, 04:29 AM
Price allowed six goals on 30 shots. He has surrendered 10 goals on 39 shots in his two pre-season appearances. That translates into a 6.67 goals-against average with a save percentage of .743.

:'(

El Fangel

Mark Streit out for up to 6 months with a torn shoulder, happened during a scrimmage inter-squad when he was checked by Matt Moulson and fell awkwardly into the boards.

Going to be terrible for a team that wasnt that great on the PP to begin with but without an adequate replacement, look for a trade or a signing in my opinion.

Leafs vs Sens should be a brawl tonight.
Ottawa is icing Lessard, Smith, Bass and Carkner
Toronto is icing the dynamic duo of Rosehill who fights in practically every pre season game, and the reigning Heavyweight Champ Colton Orr.

Rosehill vs Bass and/or Smith who Rosie beat easily.
Orr vs Lessard or Carkner. I'd love to see Carkner vs Orr as their series last year was amazing. 3 tko's in 4 fights.

El Fangel
09-30-2010, 05:19 PM
I can watch that over and over and over and still not get bored of it.

Hell, my buddy knows I hate Cooke with a passion.

He goes would you be the least bit upset if he took a Chara slapper to the throat and I told him yes actually.

The time it would take to get the stretcher out, pick him up and get him off the ice plus clean up any blood left on it would really disrupt the flow of the game.

Also in the least, the Pens should be assessed a delay of game penalty for such a long break if that happens.

Let's say you are a hockey player, and you are under 50-60 games away from 1000 games played. in your 14th/15th year, would you retire or go for one more season to get to the 1000 games played milestone?

And yes, Darcey Tucker retiring with 947 games played is why I asked this.

Gertner
10-01-2010, 06:33 PM
I loved Tucker back in the day, but this retirement is two years too late.

El Fangel
10-05-2010, 03:47 PM
Honestly, I think Avs will do even better this year, virtually nothing has changed.

Duchene should put up a monster season, kid is amazing and if Shattenkirk and Elliot end up on the blueline and do as well as I think they will look out.

It all depends on Anderson, who I think is more then capable.

You take into account travel distances and the such, Toronto played against mostly teams that were located near (Detroit, Ottawa)

Also it takes into account their season start and the such, for example Vancouver has 9 days off before their first game.

All balances out in the ned.

Shattenkirk and Elliot were both sent down.

Their defence looks like this:
Liles-Quincey
Hannan-Foote
Cumiskey-Wilson
Holos

Wilson sucked during the pre-season, Foote is old as dirt, and Liles is awful in his own zone. They give up far too many shots and their special teams isn't very good. I'm prediciting the Avs to finish 9th-10th, but not surprised if they sneak in.

The indefatigable Stan Lee is back with yet another galaxy of superheroes. This time it's The Guardian Project, 30 new superheroes, each based on a franchise of the National Hockey League. The individual Guardians will each have five powers including one that relates directly to the team they represent. The Calgary Flames dude will have control over fire, while the Philadelphia Flyers Guardian will be able to soar through the skies. Presumably the Edmonton Oilers character will be extra greasy and difficult to hold.

The entire posse of hockey-based heroes will be unveiled at the NHL All-Star game. They were created to appeal to hockey’s current fan base, but more importantly they target tween boys and are designed to attract young fans to the sport of hockey. As the chief NHL marketer put it: “We are looking at how we cultivate a relationship with the next generation of fans.”

Plans call for comic books as well as animated TV, film, and mobile phone apps as well as a robust online presence. The L.A.-based Vicon House of Moves, a leading motion-capture animation house that does tons of video game work, is handling production of The Guardian Project animation, which will be teased when the project is revealed at the New York Comic Con.

The Guardians will work together (reluctantly at times) to defeat a number of villains, and like all good Stan Lee superheroes, they will have, as their creator put it to USA Today, “their own personal problems and hang-ups” (once again, acne would appear to be a likely challenge for the Guardian from Edmonton).

I understand, but you can't make claims like that after 2 games. If these trends hold up after the first month - then maybe.

There are teams that have only played 1 game this year.

After the first 2 games last year, the Blackhawks had 2 points (1W, 1L) - and this year they have 1 point (1OT, 1L). Not much of a "reverse".

Ok, let me put this is terms you might understand.

Edmonton was not expected to win, but they did.
They definitely weren't expected to shutout their opponent given the amount of goals allowed last season, they did.
The last place team was not really expected to beat a playoff bubble team, they did.

Hence, huge upset.

And Colorado wasn't expected to beat the Hawks, but they did. How about Phoenix beating Boston? Columbus beating the Sharks?

You are vastly overreacting to a opening night win. NHL Network, Versus, and ESPN all showed highlights of that game - none of them made as big of a deal out of the game as you are.

Shit - I'm more impressed with what the Leafs are doing than the one win the Oilers had on Friday.

Are you seriously trying to be a troll?

Colorado had a good team last year with virtually no changes besides a year more experience for players like Duchene, O'Reilly, Stewart, etc. Playing against a team ravaged in the offseason by salary cap constraints and missing two of their core players in Campbell and Sharp, so the win is less then shocking.

Phoenix finished 4th last year in the league, against a team missing its best setup man and a rookie goalie in net, real shocked at the outcome there.

San Jose and Columbus previous game was fairly close, considering the talent on San Jose vastly outnumbers that on Columbus, so a bit unexpected but not really shocking.

However again, a team not even expected to win, manages to shutout their opponents and score four goals on one of the best goalies in the league.

Clearly that is not an accomplishment at all.

Clearly you have no fucking idea what you are talking about.

OssMan

Yes last year for both of those examples, again I want to reiterate that both those teams have been virtually unchanged since last season.

Colorado made very few changes during the offseason, while as you know Chicago effectively moved to Atlanta.

Phoenix had a strong team last year and had very few players even approaching 80 points, they were also virtually unchanged.

The Oilers didnt beat the Soviet National (Not All-Star) Team, but they put up an impressive win where they were the underdogs, you cant deny that and if you do there really is no point in arguing with you.

Stamkos is looking sick as well :)

Leafs are pretty damn impressive right now. Quite happy to have Kaberle in my fantasy team.

Canadiens are surprising. I don't know if it's going to last the season, but they're actually playing decently. It's nice to see.

Luongo gave up 6 goals on 18 shots tonight against the Wild before getting pulled before the 3rd. No wonder they pulled the C off of him. Can't wait til tomorrow night!

Don't get me wrong, he's ione of the best goalies in the league, but I really believe he's peaked. The whole 'captain' thing was dumb. They did that to make him happy as they were negotiating his contract. They should never have signed him for so long and for so much. The Canucks have the best goalie prospect in the minors in Cory Schnieder.
Canuck fans might think I'm crazy, but Luongo should have been signed to a shorter deal with the intentions of seeing if Schnieder was going to pan out, and if he did, make a trade on Luongo.
It's still possible to trade Luongo I imagine...
I'm just not sold that in a hard cap system you aren't trying to church the talent over faster.

Pretty infuriating that that fan got kicked out when Rick Rypien grabbed him when he didn't do anything. I hope they let him go back to his seat later. Or gave him tix to another game.

Might only be early in the season but they defiantly fixed their scoring and defensive problems from last year.

Another guy in the league already has him. I grabbed Rask as my second goalie this year behind Vokoun.

So Kovalchuk was a healthy scratch last night. A home game Vs the Sabres.

LOL.

17 years? 100+ million and the rookie coach benches him?

ahahaha

You should have taken Price.

We can keep four players in our team from year to year. Price has been taken for three years now.

Which is why I'm stuck with Vokoun as a #1 goalie. I've been hoping for a trade for a couple of years, but they always want unrealistic deals. The bastards.

Vokoun is an underrated goalie by so many people. His #'s stack up well year after year.

There was a reason behind it, McLean wouldn't comment if it was on or off ice though.

Might want to trade him soon, he is a UFA next summer and with Markstrom nearing ready, I honestly don't see them signing him.

Lou just had a quote on TSN here in Canada stating that he is very happy with the coaching his team is receiving. Bob Mackenzie has also said the reason Kovalchuk was a scratch was because he missed a team meeting.

That seems a bit odd, as Parise, Langerbrunner and Arnott were all asked if they knew why he was benched and they stated no.

That is likely the case, but apparently Parise legit was surprised Kovalchuk was getting benched.

Anyways, NJD is pretty terrible this year.
