Anybody but the Ravens, for the win.

9. What can we tell from how these teams did against other playoffs teams: A lot. The Bengals went 0-7 against teams that made the playoffs. The Broncos beat Cincinnati 24-22 in Week 2, but they lost by an average of 27 points to the Packers and Patriots, the only other playoff teams they faced. The Texans went 3-2 against playoff teams, the Steelers 3-4 and the Ravens 6-0. The Patriots went 1-2 against playoff teams.
Now if only it didn't take just one loss to make all that irrelevant

The Steelers and Broncos have played 6 times before in the playoffs splitting the 6 games, the upcoming game will put them 1 matchup behind the Rams and Cowboys.
If the Giants play the 49ers, they will have met a record tying 8 times as well.

Droford, what about teams that everybody else used as fucking doormats that the Ravens lost to? Your stats are kind of silly.
Titans finished 9-7
Chargers finished 8-8
Seahawks finished 7-9
Jaguars finished 5-11
Like I said, the Jaguars game was the only real embarassing loss looking back now...well the SD game was a horrible performance but on the Road vs a team that was like 20-1 in December over the last 5 years..
Packers lost to 7-9 KC
Saints lost to the Rams (who the Ravens beat in St Louis 37-7) and Tampa Bay (finished 4-12, the last game TB would win this year)
49ers lost to 8-8 Dallas and 8-8 Arizona
Patriots lost to the Bills (finished 6-10, won 3 games after the week 3 win)
I want to argue that the Saints had 2 way more embarassing losses (2-14 rams, 4-12 Bucs)..yet no one gives them any grief over them like they do the Ravens..

New Orleans Saints individual records -- not including quarterback Drew Brees Kevin Spain, The Times-Picayune 01/01/2012 4:39 PM
New Orleans Saints individual records (non-Drew Brees) and notes from the win against Carolina on Sunday.
· TE Jimmy Graham had eight receptions for 97 yards and a touchdown. He set a franchise record for receptions in a season with 99 and tied another mark with his 11th touchdown reception. The previous mark for catches was 98 by Marques Colston in 2007. Colston, in 2007, and Joe Horn, in 2004, are the other receivers in Saints history with 11 touchdown catches.
· For a brief moment, Graham held the NFL record for receiving yards in a season by a tight end (1,310), before New England's Rob Gronkowski caught a 23-yard pass in the final two minutes to up his season total to 1,327.
· Running back Darren Sproles had 168 combined net yards (40 rushing, 29 receiving, 45 punt returns, 54 kickoff returns) Sunday to improve his season total to 2,696, an NFL single-season record. The previous mark of 2,690 was set by the Tennessee Titans' Derrick Mason in 2000, and the second-highest total (and previous Saints franchise mark) of 2,647 was set by Michael Lewis in 2002.
· Colston caught Brees' first pass on Sunday to go past the 1,000-yard mark in receiving yards for the fifth time in his six seasons with the Saints. Colston, who had 10 catches for 145 yards against the Panthers, ends 2011 with 80 receptions for 1,143 yards.
· Graham, Sproles and Colston all finished with 80 or more receptions.
· Colston and Graham are only the second set of teammates in franchise history to each have 1,000 or more yards receiving. In 2001, Joe Horn finished with 1,265 receiving yards and Willie Jackson 1,046.
· Cornerback Patrick Robinson's second-quarter interception was his team-leading fourth of the season, two of which came off Carolina's Cam Newton. Robinson is the seventh different Saints defender to lead or co-lead the team in interceptions since 2007.
· Rookie linebacker Martez Wilson's third-quarter sack of Newton was the first of his career.
· Punder Thomas Morstead broke his own franchise history for punting average at 47.9. He averaged 45.9 yards per punt a year ago.
· Kicker John Kasay's 144 points scored and 63 points after touchdown extended his own franchise record.

I wonder if it is also related to the recent news of Bill Polian considering not drafting Luck at all and instead RG3 based on him thinking he's the better QB right now. Originally he was 100% for luck until RG3 won the Heisman and then started to really consider not taking Luck.
Would take longer to rebuild the o-line to fit Griffen's run ability potential instead of Luck's style that almost matches the current Manning style.

The Saints only lost two games outdoors this year, one of them by 8 points at Lambeau..
They only lost 3 total...
I didn't say they were awful but they become average outdoors. They are not the same team.
They beat a bad Jacksonville team 23-10, they beat Carolina by 3, they lost to TAMPA BAY, and they barely eeked by Tennessee 22-17 in a game where I don't think they even score a TD til the 4th quarter.
If you wanna go back to last season, yes they had a couple impressive outdoor wins early in the season... they also struggled some and ended up losing to a 7-9 team in the playoffs in a game where they were playing catch up the whole time.
Yes, they become average outdoors and in the elements, it only makes it worse.

I'm not saying any indoor team can't play outside, I'm saying the Saints specifically are not as good outside. However your theory is flawed since a) Thats only player by player examples, doesn't say anything about the TEAM, b) College... can't really draw comparisons and c) to be fair, Brees wasn't that good in the NFL when he played for the Chargers... an outdoor team

Alright let's actually looks at how the Brees led Saints have done in cold weather games:
2006: 1-2 (lost @ Steelers and @ Bears in playoffs, won @ Giants)
2007: 0-1 (lost @ Bears)
2008: 1-1 (lost @ Bears, won @ Chiefs)
2009: 1-0 (won @ Redskins)
2010: 1-2 (lost @ Ravens and @ Seahawks in playoffs, won @ Bengals)
2011: 1-0 (won @ Titans)
So that's a 5-6 record includin the playoffs since Brees took over as starting QB. Not bad, especially since only 1 of those losses was to a bad team (Seahawks). But also not great. And it probably is worth noting that the only playoff game the Saints have won away from the Superdome was the neutral site Super Bowl against the Colts.

If you even halfway insinuate that Flacco might not be the right guy for the job, everybody goes absolutely fucking apeshit. I don't know a fan of another team that gets nearly as angry and frustrated as Ravens fans when questioned about their team, and especially their Quarterback. It's kind of boggling.

Same douchebag (Bill Simmons, THE "SPORTS GUY") that said this:
From his Week 1 picks column:
Steelers (+1.5) over RAVENS
Every year, either six or seven playoff teams return to make the playoffs again … which means five or six drop out. Of the Eagles, Falcons, Jets and Ravens, isn't Baltimore the most likely free-faller? Tough schedule, weak corners, semishaky QB, soft pass rush, two aging defensive stars, a sketchy offensive line … what am I missing? Do you realize that, right after the lockout ended, the Vikings waived Bryant McKinnie because he showed up weighing nearly 400 pounds. They didn't have a replacement and didn't care; they just wanted him out. Now he's guarding Joe Flacco's blind side ahead of the guy from The Blind Side? OK. Relatively Bold Prediction No. 2: Baltimore misses the 2011 playoffs.Of course
A) The Ravens won that game in a blowout
B) The Ravens didn't miss the playoffs
C) Bryant McKinnie didn't play that bad in a backup role
D) The Ravens were one of the top teams in the league in Sacks (#3 with 48) and T-Sizzle had 14 to go with 7 forced fumbles and 2 ints putting him in talk for Defensive MVP
E) Sketchy corners don't turn in one of the top pass defenses in the league (#4 in yards allowed).
F) HOW THE FUCK WAS THEIR SCHEDULE TOUGH. They played the NFC West and AFC South. I was saying last year their schedule was cupcakey enough to go 14-2 for crying out loud.

Hey guys Joe Flacco or Mark Sanchez?
Well the best stat in this debate is a simple one.
Joe Flacco 2 Mark Sanchez 0
But beyond that
Sanchez is 31-22 in 3 years, Flacco is 48-23 in 4 years.
Flacco has a better career passer rating (85 to 75), better completion % (60 to 55)
Sanchez has thrown 51 ints in 3 years, Flacco only has 46 in 4 years (flacco's high is 12, 3 of 4 years and Sanchez threw 20 his first year and 18 this past year).
Sanchez 3400 yards passing this year was his high, Flacco has had at least 3600 the last 3 years.
They both get sacked at about the same rate and fumble the ball about the same rate.
Conclusion: Joe Flacco > Mark Sanchez
Supreme Olajuwon

Simmons is trying to lure me into a false sense of security by saying the Falcons are frauds. The Gianys can't be hearing that.
Have you listened to Simmons talk about the Falcons the past few years? He can't stand the Falcons, probably because they are a hard team for him to bet on. They basically never blow out teams. I definitely agree with him that they haven't put up a great game on a great team this year, but they shouldn't be taken lightly either. A lot of the Falcons' fan-base honestly believes that the coaching is holding the team back, and I'm inclined to agree with some of that, despite this being the most successful stretch for a Falcons team in their entire history. The Falcons run a basic offense and defense, and can still beat you with it on a good night, but need to start making big plays to keep up with other teams in the league.
Ryan basically needs to run the no-huddle all game. Every analyst all over would say that has been the Falcons' best offensive strategy this year.

How can Flacco be the best Ravens QB because of his irrelevant past playoff record when Trent Dilfer actually won a Super Bowl with the Ravens?
By Dro's logic, Dilfer > Flacco
No Ravens QB has led them to the playoffs 4 straight years (the Colts never even made the playoffs 4 straight years, and the Ravens are a Patriots loss and a win away from hosting the first championship game in Baltimore since 1959). Dilfer wasn't even around after they won the Super Bowl (WE GOTTA HAVE ELVIS GRBAC! YEAH!)
Which is also why Harbaugh > Billick, who I really never could stand in the first place cause he acted like he knew everything..
in fact, Harbaugh is only the 4th coach since 1970 to take a team to the playoffs each of his first 4 years. One of the others is Shanahan who won 2 Super Bowls in those 4 years.

Who the fuck cares? Ryan doesn't have a great defense to support him during shitty games like Flacco does.
And hell, if I were a betting man, I'd be picking the Giants to win on Sunday. I'd love to be wrong, but I'm not blind to the Falcons' inconsistencies. Matt Ryan still had a career year this year in his first year with the offense (mostly) under his control. The Falcons' defense, not offense, will likely be the deciding factor in their playoff games. I trust Matt and Co. to put up points. The only reason they might not put up enough points is, like I said before, a coaching decision. The Falcons are almost guaranteed to run ball control, while teams like the Packers and Saints will just score well past them.
And Matt Ryan can't throw a deep ball well to save his life. That doesn't help much either.

No problem at all with Dilfer. I wish they had kept him as the QB, can't believe they let him go after winning the Super Bowl. Him going and Jamal Lewis getting hurt made 2001 terrible although they did still make the playoffs.
One of the reasons why Ravens fans like Flacco so much is because he's infinitely better than 99% of the QBs the Ravens have had. The only other guy who may have been better was McNair, and he got them a Division title and a bye before that awful loss to the colts in 06, but he was also past his prime. Dont even want to get started on Kyle Boller, who had the most wins at QB before Flacco (20). The Jeff Blake/Chris Redman/Kyle Boller/Anthony Wright years (02-05) were horrible, the only reason they won the division in 03 was because of Jamal's 2066 yard season.

you fucking dolt...... it doesnt matter what they are "considered" now the fact is that they were an already in tact team that was relocated. The reason they had to make it an expansion was due to legal stuff with cleveland and sending their franchise history back there. The fact remains that the players on that championship ravens team were predominantly old cleveland browns players.
So if you want to go and say it was some accomplishment that they won a championship so fast after all they really had was a name change, then go ahead because you make yourself look like more of an ass than you already are.

Nah Detroit is actually good unlike the Browns but they have the same issue the Bengals had this season in having no wins against any teams in the playoffs (conference only).
Detroit is 0-5 vs NFC playoff teams while the Bengals are 0-6 vs AFC playoff teams. The only real difference is the Lions faced more offensive-dominate teams for those losses while the Bengals faced defensive-dominate teams.

Oooo, his season stats. How about his total playoff stats?
Games: 7
Yards: 1050
YPG: 150
TDs: 4
INTs: 7
*Only 2 games with a rating over 80
*2 games with a rating under 20
*4 games with a completion % of 50 or less
Those are essentially Tebow's numbers, yet you'll hypocritically criticize Tim's stats in a win but worship Joe's ability to do enough. And you wonder why no one gives a shit about Flacco. He may be decent enough to get them to the playoffs, which honestly hasn't been that hard to do in the AFC recently, but he's only going to completely fuck up in the playoffs and be carried by his running game and defense

It's not the history that determines an expansion team, you fucking idiot. The Ravens are the Browns the same way the Titans are the Oilers. Same team, different city, different name. Only difference is the city of Cleveland cared enough to fight to keep the history and name.

Yeup the Ravens are a relocation team than an actual expansion team. The only thing the Ravens didn't keep was the old Browns history since that went to the current Browns who actually are an expansion team in a technical way.
The Ravens and current Browns do share the same history in terms of being descendants of the old Browns.

The Ravens are not the Browns, there is no official connection beyond the fact that some browns players played for the Ravens in 1996 and beyond.
And the only player from the Browns era that had any impact on the Ravens was Matt Stover. In fact after two years when they moved to the new stadium I think Stover was the only player left that had played for the Browns.

I am not. The NFL officially recognizes that the Ravens never existed in any form prior to 1996. You can get a Cleveland Browns media guide and look up the history and it goes all the way back to the 50s to todays current team but it just doesn't include 1996-1998.

OFFICIALLY there is no connection, but anyone with a brain (may be why you're struggling with this) knows that the Ravens in '96 were the '95 Browns with additions. So there was massive overhaul? So the fuck what? How many of the Seahawks this year were there before Carroll a couple years ago? It happens any time a team gets a new HC, doesn't make the identity any different. How much impact they had is irrelevant

Ive made my mind up this morning that if the Ravens go to New England for the AFC Championship I will hop on an Amtrak (droford riding Amtrak!!?!) to Boston/South South Station from BWI Airport and sit in section 338 as I can get a ticket up there and the train round trip for about $500. No fucking way im going to the Super Bowl (cheapest ticket Ive seen online is $2500).

Brent Grimes hasn't been practicing and is listed as questionable with a knee injury. He'll certainly end up playing, but it won't be 100%. That could end up being a huge factor with the Giants' penchant for deep plays.

Texans -3.5
Lions +10.5
--
Giants -3.5
Broncos +8.5
I could have also bet on the Pro Bowl (NFC -3.5) or Super Bowl (NFC -4)

Why is Fischer in such demand right now? If he was that good of a coach still wouldn't he have gotten a job before this season?

He was only fired last January. Lots of coaches take a year off after leaving a gig.

Chiefs set to keep Romeo Crennel as the coach for next season which means Josh McDaniels now is very likely to return to the Patriots as the offense coordinator. McDaniels was rumored to be in the running for the Chiefs job until O'Brien decided to leave the Pats for Penn State.
Rams were more worried about McDaniels becoming a head coach after the season ended and didn't bother to try to lock him up to return next season since Fisher wants to bring his own staff to the Rams if he goes there.

I wonder if the Chiefs still had to interview a minority candidate even though they kept one as the coach anyway?

Nope, if a minority candidate is the only one interviewed it's already in compliance.
The Rooney Rule is pretty stupid tbh. There was a time where it might have made some sense when whites dominated the coaching positions, but now that there are a pretty large amount of black coaches (head coaches, coordinators, and assistants) I'm not sure it's really needed. Everybody points to the Steelers with Mike Tomlin even though the Rooneys have gone on record of saying they were always going to interview Tomlin...he was not a "token" interview.
Almost wonder if Perry Fewell is gonna get a million interviews this offseason just like last year solely because teams have to meet the requirements.

It was always a stupid rule. If there are 0 black head coaches in the league or 32, it's a stupid rule.

No, they weren't. It was pretty much a given that Ken Whisenhunt was going to be the next head coach when Cowher left, but days before they were set to make it formal, Whiz went and signed with 'Zona. Until that moment, Tomlin was most definitely a token.

Detroit should have just gone onside kick after every score. Worst case scenario, NO gets their TD quicker so they can have the ball back.

They had a huge chance in the 1st half to potentially have a bigger lead but couldn't take advantage of the turnovers or poor start by Brees. Lions best hope was either a huge half-time lead or at least match the Saints on scoring and neither occurred.
Lions defense wasn't able to completely shut down a top team this season so it was just a matter of time before Brees got hot.

I had one franchise where I used to put Kordell Stewart in every position I could, even edited his kicking power and made him punter once. If they were going to call him Slash I was going to have him live up to the name.
