Pretty sure the Bulls and Thunder are the only team that have a legitimate chance of beating the Heat in a 7 game series at this point. Fuck.

This is probably why I can't get get fully invested in the NBA. It's February and yet everything between now and the late rounds of the playoffs just feels like a formality.

Heat will fall apart in the playoffs again once the pressure and spotlight goes back on Lebron. If anything the lack of the spotlight due to Lin lets Miami play well right now compared to last season where every win or loss was scrutinized a lot.

I think even Lebron and Wade were upset their trashing against the King wasn't get the publicity since nobody cares about the Heat right now.

Bulls have a lot better chance than the Thunder of making the Finals though and its not just because of the East being weaker overall.

I'm watching Dunk Contest highlights on NBATV.

It's hilarious how after the Phoenix ASG in 09 (the one where Nate and D12 go head to head), LeBron says he's putting his name in for the Dallas ASG the next year, then you get to that contest 5 minutes later & the competitors are DeMar DeRozan, Gerald Wallace, Shannon Brown & Nate Robinson. LeBron is a girl.

Good back-to-back wins by the Cs. They played like crap in the 1st half but rebounded in the 2nd half.

ESPN has reported the Lakers declined an offer by the Twolves in which the Twolves get one of the Lakers 1st Rd draft picks while the Lakers get Beasley and have to "eat" his contract using their cap exemption from Dallas. Lakers refused because they don't want to add to the $18 million luxury tax fine they owe for this season which would have gone to around $23 million with Beasley.

Triple Naitch

Wasn't Beasley supposed to be the next great power forward? WTF happened?

Emperor Smeat
02-29-2012, 10:23 PM
Weed and/or other drugs along with off-court problems.

Same reason why Miami wanted him gone instead of having their Big 3 be Wade, Beasley, and Lebron.

SI.com reported that the Magic are interested in getting Steve Nash from the Suns. The Suns would then be rumored to get a few draft picks, Jameer Nelson, and shooter Ryan Anderson.

Magic also involved in discussions for Golden State's Monta Ellis but the Warriors want Dwight Howard for the deal to be done.

Celtics really committed to trading either Rondo, Ray Allen, or Paul Pierce to the point its starting to disrupt the team and Doc Rivers who wants Ainge to either do a deal or stop leaking all the talk about a trade.

Terrible loss for the Knicks.

All they had to do was guard against the 3 for one final play and obviously Pierce hits it. Knew as soon as it went to OT that the game was over. That putback dunk that Stoudemire couldn't finish was huge. And Lin just got horribly embarassed this game - Rondo's line - 18 pts, 17 rebounds, 20 assists. Jesus.

Evil Vito
03-04-2012, 04:36 PM
Yeah, there was no way they were winning in OT after that. Really bad loss. Too bad they couldn't cash in a win here because the upcoming stretch is only going to get harder.

Emperor Smeat
03-04-2012, 04:40 PM
Yeah Rondo was amazing in terms of assists but shot just as bad as Lin.

The biggest difference is the Cs know what they want Rondo to do in big games while the Knicks are still wanting Lin to do everything he did from the initial 2 weeks he had with the team.

Only concern is Doc once again over-worked the starters with the minutes which has backfired a lot when it comes to back-to-back games this season.

Big win for the Celtics since now they head to the Philly game with the possibility of being just 1 back in the division if they win against the Sixers.

Doc has no real confidence in the bench which is going to hurt in the long run since Ray, Rondo, and Pierce once again had very little rest.

pretty great Cs-Lakers game. Cs came up a bit short in the end.

The bigger news is the Cs lost another player due to Chris Wilcox being diagnosed with a similar cardiac problem Jeff Green had. Stiemsma now will be getting a lot of quality minutes to develop at the center spot.

SammyG

Bulls rumored to be in trade talks with the Lakers for Gasol. Only issues is outside of Boozer, Lakers not really interested in any players and obviously Bulls won't be willing to give away any real huge names.

Rockets also want Gasol but refuse to add in Kyle Lowry in any deal while Minnesota and Golden state are ready to discuss a deal as well.

Derek Rose fined $25k for criticizing refs about not being treated as a superstar and deserving all the foul calls in his favor. He felt insulted/disrespected in only getting 9 FTs against the Knicks last night.

Bucks end their ongoing plan to build the team around Andrew Bogut after trading him and Stephen Jackson to the Warriors in order to get Monta Ellis, Ekpe Udoh and Kwame Brown in return.

It was only a matter of time anyways considering D'Antoni's system doesn't work with what the Knicks have unlike what the Suns had which is why it was great there. Also didn't help that the team had no clue what to do for Lin's role once Melo returned.

ESPN thinks the rift between Melo and D'Antoni once he came back along with a rumor from the NY Post about him wanting to be traded were the final straws for D'Antoni.

Celtics now rumored to be interested in the Hornets Chris Kaman to provide some needed depth at the center spot once the Hornets officially put him on the trade block. The biggest issue involves money and how much the league is willing to eat of his contract but the Cs hinted they will cover most of it.

Also rumored is Ray Allen very likely to be traded with Miami and a few big contenders interested.

Celtics also rumored to be discussing about tanking next season if no deals are possible to help develop the new players and secure a top pick in the following draft.

ESPN thinks the Celtics might not be willing to wait longer just to see if the Hornets really end up releasing Chris Kaman and could take a gamble with Ronny Turiaf who was released by the Nuggets.

Biggest problem is Turiaf currently is injured and barely played at all this season and if the Celtics do take him, probably would be out of getting Kaman.

Most likely they won't be doing anything considering Ainge has a pretty dismal record involving mid-season buyouts and constant roster shuffling that has hurt more than helped in recent years.

NBA considering changing its age requirement rule from the current 1 year of college or 19 years of age to something similar of the NFL's 3 year rule or 21/22 years of age.

The union is expected to reject the idea but did form a committee to analyze the pros and cons of such a deal. Its assumed any deal would involve the owners making a small concession which they barely did during the last time both sides met.

David Stern also wants the NCAA to be involved in the debate since they stand to benefit more if star college players stay for more years.

What makes that even weirder is the Bulls so far don't want to offer him a contract extension nor made any progress towards even discussing one to keep him longer team.

He wants a longer deal and more money while the Bulls seem to be leaning in just taking the option and then do a new deal or not after next season.

His current contract was only for 2 years with a 3rd as an option since the Bulls didn't want to risk anything longer than 2 years after Del Negro struggled as coach. Although Del Negro's problem I believe was the rift between him and Noah.

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/7809655/report-new-orleans-saints-owner-tom-benson-lines-buy-new-orleans-hornets

Saints owner agrees to buy Hornets
NEW YORK -- Tom Benson brought stability to the Saints nearly three decades ago and now plans to do the same for the Hornets in small-market New Orleans.

The Saints' owner agreed Friday to purchase the Hornets from the NBA.

"We expect this club to be one of the most outstanding clubs in the league, otherwise I don't want to get involved," Benson said. "This is just a good thing and I'm just glad to be a part of it."

A person familiar with the deal says the purchase price is $338 million. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the financial terms have not been announced.

The NBA has been trying to sell the Hornets since buying the club from founder George Shinn in December 2010. While preparing the team for sale the league negotiated a new lease for the Hornets to remain in the state-owned New Orleans Arena through 2024.

The sale of the team to Benson has to be approved by the NBA's Board of Governors, which is meeting in New York on Friday.

"The city is one of the country's treasures and we really have found the perfect owner," commissioner David Stern said. "Our goal all along has been to get the Hornets bought by somebody whose commitment to New Orleans would be unrivaled."

The framework of ownership negotiations were handled in a way that a new Hornets owner would have to accept the lease worked out between the NBA and Gov. Bobby Jindal. The lease agreement also called for $50 million in improvements to the basketball stadium, which sits right across the street from the Superdome.

Once the NBA approves the sale of the team to Benson, the next step is for the state legislature to approve the arena lease deal because of the funding needed for stadium improvements. But legislative leaders already have publicly voiced support for the proposed lease deal, which would take effect in July.

The 84-year-old Benson, a New Orleans-native, has owned the Saints since 1985, when he stepped in to block efforts by other prospective investors to move the NFL franchise to Jacksonville, Fla. Now Benson has made another major investment to stabilize the NBA's presence in the Big Easy on the same day that the Hornets were hosting the Utah Jazz, the very team New Orleans lost to relocation in 1979.

Benson helped bring the Saints their first playoff appearance in 1987 and finally a Super Bowl title in 2010. His ownership of the Hornets means the two small-market franchises both will be locally owned and now can work as partners in their efforts to attract corporate sponsorships, and Hornets fans can at least hope that will translate to a better product on the hardwood.

At the very least, the move provided Benson with some refreshingly positive publicity on the heels of the Saints' bounty scandal, which led the NFL to suspend head coach Sean Payton for the entire 2012 season -- the same season that will see New Orleans host the Super Bowl.

Only a day before the Saints announced Benson's purchase of the Hornets, the NFL club announced that assistant head coach Joe Vitt, who also oversees linebackers, would be elevated to interim coach for the coming football season, despite his own six-game suspension in connection with the bounty probe.

While the Saints have become a cherished institution that has become entrenched in the local culture since the club's founding in 1967, the Hornets are relatively new to Louisiana's pro sports landscape.

The Hornets moved to New Orleans from Charlotte in 2002, but have often been on shaky ground since, including when the club spent two full seasons in Oklahoma City after Hurricane Katrina devastated large parts of southeast Louisiana in August 2005.

In 2010, former owner Shinn decided to pull out. He was unable to find a buyer who would commit to keeping the team in New Orleans, so the NBA took the unprecedented step of taking ownership of the team and has been working to find a new permanent local owner for a year and a half.

As part of the effort to attract a new owner, team officials spent the past offseason conducting an unusual campaign to build the club's season-ticket base to 10,000, which the league considers a benchmark for successful franchises. The campaign involved social mixers in the homes of prominent business people in the region.

The team also attracted more major corporate sponsors for the 2011-12 season than it had ever had since moving to the Big Easy.

It was not immediately clear how a change in ownership might affect the front office personnel who led the marketing effort for the Hornets in the past year or the coaching staff, as there was no immediate word from Benson or his associates on that front.

Head coach Monty Williams and general manager Dell Demps each are in their second season, having joined forces to help the Hornets make the playoffs last season.

This season, the team decided to honor star guard Chris Paul's request for a trade and went into rebuilding mode. Benson will take control of a club that will miss the playoffs, but which also will have at least one -- probably two -- picks in the NBA's draft lottery. The Hornets also control the Minnesota Timberwolves first-round pick in 2012.

Also unclear is whether Benson might seek to rebrand the franchise to give it more of a Louisiana flavor. The Hornets were the team's original name in Charlotte. Basketball fans in New Orleans still regularly complain on talk radio and in internet chat rooms about Utah's refusal to give up the nickname Jazz, a reference to a genre of music born in the Big Easy and a cherished part of the city's heritage and culture.

Still, if not Jazz, there are other names that might speak more to the local culture than the name Hornets, and perhaps enhance the growing perception that the NBA is at last taking root in Louisiana.

Looks like any hope the Kings had of staying in Sacramento is essentially over as ESPN is reporting the original deal for a new arena that was approved now has fallen apart.

The owners are blaming the mayor and also the idea they would be funding a lot of the project while city leaders are blaming the Maloofs for trying to find a way out of the agreement.

According to ESPN's Daily Dime, Artest could be looking at a 1-2 game suspension if Stern goes by the book with the unofficial rules keeping the 10+ more for fights or being dumb like Arenas with guns.

They think its going to be more of the NHL/NFL style where its the same amount of games as the guy who's hurt is out plus a few more games. Could go even more strict based on if the Thunder loose out on the #2 seed and the Lakers somehow got it (1.5 games behind).

So now I need to pick a team to root for during the playoffs. Not gonna pick Miami for obvious reasons. Not gonna pick San Antonio either. I don't dislike them but they're just boring to watch.

Any suggestions?

The Suns have to beat the Jazz tonight to even sniff the playoffs. I think they can do it, but they really need the ping pong balls.

Artest gets 7 games. Seems like a pretty fair number.

Bulls locked the #1 seed in the East while the Lakers took their division.

Cs beat the Heat but can still lose home court advantage even though they are a #4 seed if the Hawks beat the Mavs or Cs lose to the Bucks in the final game due to the new rules this year.

US Attorney investigating growing claims and evidence regarding Billy Hunter spending union funds for the benefits of himself, family members, and close connections while as the executive director of the union.

Supposedly Hunter is being blamed for profiting during the lockout with union funds, creating conflicts of interest by giving non-bid contracts to companies who employ members of his family, and ensuring those with close connections were over paid or got high status jobs in the union.

The executive committee might also be in huge trouble since they hinted they knew about all the stuff and did nothing to stop Hunter especially with Hunter and his family making $3-4 million during the lockout which cost the players roughly $400 million.

Here's hoping that the Bobcats don't get the #1 pick and suck forever. Michael Jordan is a fucking horrible GM.

I need a team in the playoffs too. I'm going to cheer for The Heat because everyone hating them is kind of hilarious. Also, it's going to be a much harder road to the championship for them than people are making it seem.

Derrick Rose being injured again would be great for my Pacers. The Chicago Dulls can suck it.

Pretty sure the majority of the Knicks team is gonna foul out of this game. The amount of fouls called has been insane.

Heat are pretty horrible on the road even though almost everyone except 4-5 teams were this season compared to their home record. If they get the same calls and luck, they still are a shoe-in for the East Finals and maybe now the NBA finals if Rose's injury becomes a huge issue.
