Merry Christmas. In a shortened season, what better way to celebrate with your loved ones than watching some basketball.

Games on tap for today:
Celtics @ Knicks
Heat @ Mavericks
Bulls @ Lakers
Magic@ Thunder
Clippers @ Warriors

Celtics-Knicks was pretty good but dear god Joey Crawford sucks as a ref.

Hate when he's reffing Celtic games although a lot of teams and fans hate him the most in the NBA for refs.

 the spread got covered within the last seconds of the game.

I need a bandwagon to jump on this year. Did the Trail Blazers last year which was pretty fun, but wanna do a new team this year.

Def not gonna be the Clippers because that's too obvious. Thinking about the Wiz cause of my n-word John Wall but they're probably gonna still be terrible.

Help me please.

They had a 21 point lead in the 2nd quarter and blew it.

I did forget they drafted Shelvin Mack out of Butler, but with Wall in there he wont see much time.

I still love the Lakers, but it's hard trying to keep up with them living on the east coast. Trying to find a secondary team to follow. Easiest would be the Sixers, but there isn't really anybody on their roster I particularly enjoy watching.

Incredibly impressive 1st quarter.

Schlomey
12-28-2011, 07:14 AM
Impressive season so far here's my take:

best game so far : thunder vs timberwolves 12/26/2011 - debut of rubio and it was just a fast paced back and forth game until the end.

Carmelo Anthony
Kevin Durant
Andris Biedrins giving effort
the spin move Joakim Noah pulled on GSW
The fact the Lakers lost to the Kings
Mavericks puking
Celtics looking old......need Pierce but even he may be to slow to keep up with the seasons fast pace.
Indiana Pacers need dribbling practice. They won but 1st quarter was pathetic by both teams in their season opener.
Dwight Howard wants traded to Nets...shoe endorsements.
Clippers are a team to watch for the first time in a long time but they won't go anywhere this year IMO.

Gertner
12-28-2011, 10:39 AM
well, the Jazz are terrible. Hmm, Lakers shot 20 more free throws than Utah, which is odd, because that NEVER happens when the Lakers play at home.

Schlomey
12-28-2011, 12:49 PM
I concur with Gertner.

SammyG
12-28-2011, 03:12 PM
Yeah, Gertner, refs were the reason Utah lost that bad, lol. Having said that, I still don't know about this Laker team. WAY better defensively, searching for continuity on offense though... Need Bynum back bad.

Gertner
12-28-2011, 03:14 PM
The refs were exactly the reason. That and nobody in Utah's starting 5 breaking double digits in points. I know that Favors is young and all, but he shouldn't be starting over Millsap.

Gertner
12-28-2011, 03:15 PM
Oh, and it'd be nice if Al Jefferson at least pretended to care about playing defense.

Hanso Amore
12-28-2011, 03:35 PM
I honestly thought by this point Al Jefferson would be battling Howard for the best of the bigs title. Instead he has fallen off the least 3 year. I know he has a bad injury and thats tough, but Kevin Love has surpassed him.

Hanso Amore
12-28-2011, 03:35 PM

He's very good offensively, he's just doesn't bother playing defense at all, and on Utah it kills them.

Emperor Smeat
12-28-2011, 10:52 PM
3rd straight game the Celtics trailed by 10+ at the half and the defense gave up too much to start the game. Shooting-wise, it was the first game the offense was bad considering they shot well against the Heat and Knicks.

Loosing Pierce and Jeff Green really hurts the Celtics but besides 2008, Ainge has done more to hurt the team than anything long term until he had no choice for this season. Knowing Ainge, he'll trade away all the youth on the bench for nothing long term like he does every year.

Agree about D'Antoni. Carmelo plays better defense than a lot of people give him credit for though.

Team just has no gameplan right now. Some new players and not a lot of training camp so not surprising although I'm not confident in D'Antoni's coaching at all. Amare's playing like he's a shooting guard instead of a 6'11 PF. Needs to at least try and get in the paint.

I feel like I'm in an alternate universe. Check out the current standings and most of them are totally opposite from a year or 2 ago. Boston at the bottom while Pacers ride majestic? The Lakers sitting at .500 and the Eastern Atlantic Division can barely get a win? I know it's early but damn.

Not everything is shocking: Kevin Durant continues to push OKC in the right direction as he really began last year.

Think I'm buying NBA League Pass Broadband. I have been taking advantage of the free trial going until January 8th. I am cheap (Jewish as it were) so I'm going for the 29.99 package where you can pick 5 teams to follow....Now my question for you folks is which 5 is the best to watch...Not the best teams but the biggest bang for my buck. Criteria include: How many regular season games do they play? How many games are already televised nationally that I won't need to pay for?

ok that's it....here are my 5 choices you can try and top..

1. Oklahoma City Thunder
2. Minnesota Timberwolves
3. New York Knicks
4. Golden State Warriors
5. Boston Celtics/ Indiana Pacers/ Portland Trailblazers ?????

I watched Sacramento v Bulls the other day. I've never seen a more talented, lazy, selfish bad attitude team put together in my life. Marcus Thorton was demanding the ball like he was Jordan. Passing the ball to Jimmer was like throwing it to a black hole. He dribbled and shot. But I don't blame him. That's what the rest of the team did. Cousins and Evans were constantly the last people to get past half court on offense. They seemed totally disinterested unless they had the ball in there hands. It was entertaining to be honest.

Wait til Paul George blows up.

Pacers probably have the most physical team in the league. Tonight, Derron Williams went to the basket and got clobbered by Psycho T cleanly. T went for the ball with his right hand and put his elbow in Williams ribs. It was beautiful. Everytime Williams went to the basket he was holding his ribs. Hansbrough is outstanding. Dude is as tough as it gets. He muscles up on people for rebounds and then has this look on his face like he doesn't remember what just happened. Like a murderer who kills someone in a fit of rage and doesn't even realize what he just.did. I have a bet with a friend basically saying I think the Pacers will finish top four in the East. I think they can take the central from the Bulls.

Btw. Darren Collison is playing amazing.

Although that second quarter had one of the worst units I've seen out on the court at one time, I think it was Mike Bibby-Bill Walker-Steve Novak-Josh Harrellson-Jerome Jordan.

Actually like what I've seen from Harrellson. Even if only one out of the four 3-pointers he took yesterday actually hit the rim. I know one hit the side of the backboard and one was an airball.

Barely a couple of weeks into the news season and already a coach gets fired as the Kings fired Paul Westphal.

The GM said it was due to expectations not being met from a 2-5 start but in reality it was due to him loosing the support from the players. It also appears that the Kings might have backed down from their warnings to Cousins and picked him over keeping the coach for the season.

I'm not devastated over it or anything but I think they put a little too much stock in Cousins being a crybaby over the whole situation. Hopefully we can move forward from this rather healthily and start picking up wins.

The team has looked pretty amateur thus far and it seems like each player is playing their own game of basketball. We need a pure ball distributor IMO. Too many selfish looks.

Bill Simmons Somehow Still Writing About 2010 NBA Season

November 2, 2011 |
http://o.onionstatic.com/images/articles/article/26/26489/NIB-Bill_Simmons-R_jpg_635x345_crop-smart_upscale_q85.jpg

LOS ANGELES—With the NBA lockout having already resulted in the cancellation of many games this fall, ESPN.com and Grantland columnist Bill Simmons is somehow managing to churn out upwards of 3,000 words per week on the NBA by continuing to write about the long-completed 2010 season. "Nov. 22 of last year, Thunder vs. Timberwolves, what many may have excused as an early season flirtation between two young squads, but this was more than that: It was yet another example of why Kevin Durant is trade-your-entire-team-to-get-this-guy good," Simmons wrote Tuesday in a post titled "The Greatest Season Ever? (Part Nine)." "I said it last season, I said it in the playoffs, I said it in the offseason, I said it in the NFL preseason, and I'm saying it now: Durant is as smooth and calculating as Omar from The Wire, and I watch recordings of him just as often." Over the past three weeks, Simmons has mentioned last year's NBA season on more than 800 occasions, including 287 times in his account of attending a Los Angeles Kings hockey game.

Confused Bill Simmons Picks The Departed To Win Super Bowl

January 25, 2007 |

LOS ANGELES—Pop-culture enthusiast and sportswriter Bill Simmons, a regular columnist for ESPN's Page 2, was evidently suffering from genre confusion earlier this week when he picked Martin Scorsese's The Departed to win Super Bowl XLI. "The Departed just has a ton of upside that you can't ignore—it's got great chemistry, it keeps up the intensity all the way through, and it's got a hungry underdog coach who hasn't won the big one," Simmons wrote, adding that The Departed's only weakness may be that the film "lacks a clear cut offensive MVP to fill the role Brandon Walsh played for the great Dallas Cowboys dynasties." "This pick has nothing to do with my obvious hometown bias, but the city of Boston deserves to win the Oscar, especially after Mystic River's 2004 collapse when it eventually succumbed to Billy Crystal's heartbreaking missed field goal." Simmons added that if The Departed doesn't win the Super Bowl, it will be eerily reminiscent of the time the expansion Florida Marlins "practically stole" the Best New Artist Grammy from the Colorado Rockies in 1993

I wasn't convinced either way, but I'm not sure they saw the zoom on the monitor...officials have two minutes to view the monitor (save for replays look at after a player altercation or if there's an issue with the replay system). I believe they only showed that zoom well after that period.

Another reason why D'Antoni needs to go. Is there any other coach in basketball that would let a rookie go out there and keep jacking up the ball when he's not making any shots? He should have sat Shumpert when he was going crazy. He wasn't even looking for other guys at all.
