LOL Denver. You've got about as much chance of winning a ring as you have winning a best swag contest. And your swag is terrible, so your chances are poor.

Honestly, Dwight IS being a bitch. I'm tired of this. Even if the Lakers don't get him, I don't see it being a fail, Bynum is a way better offensive player than D12 is. Bynum is the 2nd best center in the league, if not the first. Fine with either option. Just want resolution to this stupid drama.

Our swag is awesome. Awesome! We probably should have sent the Nuggets to the Olympics as Team USA, they're that great. Well not Mozgov, or Gallinari or that new draft pick, or a couple of other guys, but the rest...oh the rest.

I thought it was hilarious when Carmelo called Lin's contract offer from The Rockets ridiculous.

I do think Lin is a total New York hype machine, and this won't really hurt the Knicks, but 8.1 for Jeremy Lin isn't that bad they probably should have kept him.

If the Lakers do in fact land Howard, I just don't think Miami would be able to beat them in a 7 game series unless they make some more roster moves.

In fact, it's possible that the Lakers' biggest threat is in the Western Conference, in OKC.

'Cause I don't see an Eastern team that'd be able stop them right now.

Come on Krim. Dude is a 3 time defensive player of the year. He'll be alright. Plus, the Lakers have enough superstars on their side to make the refs swallow their whistles, unlike the Heat series against the Pacers where they were able to take Hibbert out of the game.

I hate you for making me disagree with you btw.

If the Cavs pick up Bynum as the third team in this deal and can convince him to re-up there long term they might be the biggest winners of all in this whole deal. Kyrie is one or two seasons away from top PG status and Bynum would be the best center in the East and both of those guys are young. The Magic are rebuilding and the Lakers probably have a two year window before Kobe, Nash and Gasol retire.

I think ESPN's "experts" fuel a lot of the confusion too. I don't see why Dwight is in such a rush to leave Orlando.

It's a great city.

He should go like "I'll take a discount, sign a 2 year deal and if things don't change, then I'm gone. Now, y'all go out and find some good players to put around me, let's do this".

Emperor Smeat
07-20-2012, 04:56 PM
Its the idea or at least the perception that superstars only want to play in certain cities and in recent years form their own Big squads. Been an issue for the NBA for years but only became a lot more visible the years after Jordan and stars started to get coddled a lot more regardless if they really deserved it.

Orlando might be a great city but why play there when Brooklyn or Los Angeles is a lot better in terms of big market exposure and a lot better on paper than the Magic are.

Signed Jamison, resigned Hill. That alone helps the front court. Need, at the very least, some young legs that will be pesky defensively to come off the bench for the back court. Even if not, there's no doubt this Lakers squad is already better than last year's.

Fuck this guy, man. He's so ambivalent.

It's a form of tampering if he states that. All this extension talk is always after the phrase "sources say". Nobody, player or team, can officially come out and say what their intentions are regarding other teams players. Fact is, he has to say that. Not only that, but why would he sign an extension? If he does, he's leaving the extra two years and twenty some odd MILLIONS on the table he can get by resigning with his current team during free agency. Who the hell would do that?

No real preference as long as they don't make the focus more about the brand name than the team or logo like in Europe. As well as having a new set of jerseys each year just because the sponsors change or they feel like making multiple versions also like in Europe.

His tweet comes from a report at Yahoo Sports that states Dwight will sign with the Mavs next offseason if no deal is done. Dwight himself keeps telling the Magic he doesn't care if they get nothing for him since he wants out as soon as possible. Also demanding if the Lakers can't get a deal done then forget them and reopen talks with the Nets.

Making things worse is Howard has already told Houston if they trade for him, he will reject all offers for a long term contract since Houston is not one of his approved places and will be gone the moment next offseason begins.

Ultimately Bosh and James were Traded to the Heat. As long as there is a CBA, and Legalese, there will be loopholes. Teams have commodities and those commoditites wanna leave, it behooves the team to try and acquire some form of compensation for losing that commodity.

This NBA that you speak of can't get on players for being divas, because David Stern is interested in the League being based around Superstars.

According to the website's sources, Howard and Nuggets forward Al Harrington would go to the Lakers; 76ers guard Andre Iguodala would be moved to Denver; Bynum would be dealt to Philadelphia; and Gasol and Nuggets guard Arron Afflalo would go to Orlando.

The proposed scenario also includes the Magic receiving draft picks and salary-cap relief, the sources told Yahoo.

Seems like Philly gets the worst out of the rumored deal considering Magic already hinted they are rebuilding so the draft picks and cap space helps them more than players.

Would Bynum be willing to sign a long term deal though which is why the whole Howard-Bynum trade is a mess to begin with since neither guy is willing to sign a long term deal with anyone.

Bynum is good but has attitude issues especially in the playoffs while the Sixers seemed to be showing signs of being a future great team with AI as their core based on last year's performance.

Funny or ironic thing was one of the reasons behind the lockout by the owners was to give the small market teams a better chance. Instead they are back to doing all the pre-lockout stuff with the big markets still can over spend and "hog" all the stars while the smaller teams still stuck making dumb trades.

Hate to be the Clippers since right when it looks like they might be relevant or the new "king" of LA, the Lakers barely waste any time and swoop in making sure nobody cares about the Clippers in terms of the media talk for next season.

Lakers really seem to banking on Dwight willing to not care about money next year considering he wants a mega deal and they can't afford it like Dallas or potentially Brooklyn can.

Magic realized that with Bynum which is why they went after more picks and players to compensate not having to worry about his drama next year.

SammyG
08-10-2012, 09:33 PM
Dwight seemed ecstatic in his press conference and handled everything very well. Of course he's not gonna talk about re-signing, dude can make hella more money by signing his extension at the end of the year. Mitch wouldn't make this deal if he didn't know D12 would re-sign. Reporters kept asking him the same questions over and over, which was stupid. D12 is sooo Shaq-like it's funny. Sense of humor, demeanor, nickname, awful free throw shooter ;) I'm beyond excited for the year, I truly feel like the Lakers are now a championship caliber team again. Hope D12 is back by late November and his back heals properly... I assume Gasol starts the year at C and Antawn Jamison starts at PF. You're still butthurt over Allen leaving the Celtics, brah?

Allen took a lesser role 'cause he wanted to, he already has his ring.

Howard wanted to leave Orlando because he realized (as did Lebron) that he couldn't win a Championship there, he couldn't lead that team to a Title. So now, with Kobe's help, he can get his ring.

The Lakers are Kobe's team. So, for now, Howard did take a lesser role, in that he won't be the leader of that team, as opposed to in Orlando, where he was the leader of the Magic.

If Howard signs an extension in LA, once Kobe retires, then it'll be Dwight's team. But for now? No, it's Kobe's team.

Lebron left Cleveland via free agency, while Dwight Howard bitched and moaned and forced his way out of Orlando.

But it's cool. I had no problem with Lebron meeting up with Bosh and D-Wade in Miami, and I have no problem with Howard meeting up with Kobe in LA.

Keith, I understood your viewpoint before. I agree Kobe made a smarter move by chosing to go with '24' instead of 23. He has always had the 'I'm better than MJ' chip on his shoulder, but winning has helped him grow into his own man.

I meant most of the questions to be rhetorical, thought provoking questions that people who usually pan Lebron to consider before panning him again.

So to clarify this position, The only thing that got me following basketball was Michael Jordan. I became a fan of his. When he left, my concern for the game waned. I love Football, I play football, I am Football. So BBall has always been a 'fringe' sport.

However when LBJ burst on the scene, I gave the kid a chance. I watched him at SVSM and i was floored. This kid, who was a couple years YOUNGER than me was a prodigious talent. I wanted to watch everything he did. So, I did. I found a way to watch his senior year's games, and when he got drafted, I watched the Cav's games. I wanted him to win and to be successful. Now that he's with the Heat, I want them to be successful. Honestly, the fact that most of the NBA hate the Heat for doing the same thing the Lakers/Rockets/Warrirors/Celtics did make me love the Heat more.

What can I say?

pfft, I laugh at this because the NBA wants you to buy into superstars more than the teams. That's Stern's vision and that's how he markets the League. He shoves superstar matchups down your throat for 82 games and 3 rounds of playoffs. He only wants 'teams' to make the finals when those teams are in huge TV Markets, if that isn't the case he's happy to have his most marketable Superstars in the limelight.

Apparently, not everyone is over "The Decision."
Muhammad Rahim, an Afghan man who served as a translator for Osama bin Laden and is now being detained at Guantanamo Bay, is still peeved over how LeBron James left Cleveland for Miami.
Rahim's lawyer, Carlos Warner, recently released letters that Rahim wrote to him from prison. In one of them, Rahim expresses his strong opinion regarding "The Decision."
"Dear Mr. Warner!" Rahim wrote to Warner (http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/in-the-loop-a-kitty-for-bin-ladens-translator/2012/08/16/ffe6b6ca-e7c2-11e1-936a-b801f1abab19_story.html), who is from Akron. "Lebron James is very bad man. He should apologize to the city of Cleveland."
Not only has James apologized, he's also said he regrets "The Decision." Maybe that's not good enough for Rahim.
Warner believes Rahim's sense of loyalty originates in his tribal values, where "betrayals are not tolerated or forgiven, although an honest apology from an offending peer is valued."
Rahim also wrote Warner to express displeasure with the fact that one of his fellow inmates was presented with a kitten after displaying good behavior while Rahim did not receive such a gift.

Here's an interesting HoopsWorld article on how exactly Dwight Howard ended up in Los Angeles:

The Orlando Magic finally put an end to the Dwight Howard era with a massive four-team trade this past Friday.

After protracted negotiations with the Brooklyn Nets and then the Houston Rockets, the Magic found a key partner in the Philadelphia 76ers. Once the Nets exited the picture in early July, momentum suggested the Rockets would either get Howard or Andrew Bynum (via the Los Angeles Lakers).

The Lakers were willing to give up Bynum for Howard but need a third team to broker a deal. If not Houston, the Cleveland Cavaliers were a possibility, and yet Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak did not believe anything was likely to come of talks.

Ultimately Orlando approached the Lakers with an initial three-way idea with the Sixers, which evolved into the four-way that was executed on August 10.

In addition to draft considerations, the Magic acquired Moe Harkless, Arron Afflalo, Al Harrington, Nikola Vucevic, Christian Eyenga and Josh McRoberts. The Lakers received Earl Clark, Chris Duhon and Howard. The Sixers landed Jason Richardson and Bynum. The Nuggets ended up with Andre Iguodala.

The question for many is “Why? Why did the Magic take this deal above other possibilities?”

While that’s certainly a hot topic to debate, the question addressed here is “How?”

Under the rules of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, teams can break down a large trade into whatever legal combination most suits them. It doesn’t have to be a single transaction but can be a number of smaller ones in tandem.

For the Lakers, it was moderately complicated. Bynum was traded for Howard and Clark. McRoberts was used to acquire Duhon. Eyenga did not bring a player back, generating a $1,174,080 trade exception (TPE) the Lakers can use for up to a year.

It was straight-forward for the Nuggets who simply traded Afflalo and Harrington for Iguodala. For the Sixers, a single deal was done with Iguodala, Vucevic and Harkless for Bynum and Richardson.

It’s the Magic deal that took considerable ingenuity to construct. In addition to the players received, Orlando ended up with a $17,816,880 TPE for Howard. While a basic trade was possible, how exactly was the deal structured to also generate the league’s largest TPE?

For some background, Orlando made a deal earlier in the summer that sent Ryan Anderson to the New Orleans Hornets for Gustavo Ayon. The Hornets had enough cap room to absorb Anderson via sign and trade at $8.7 million.

Additionally, the Magic were holding onto a $4.25 million TPE from the Brandon Bass/Glen Davis trade. Ayon, at $1.5 million, was acquired via part of the Bass TPE . . . leaving a remainder of $2.75 million. Because Anderson got a raise greater than 20%, the Magic received a $4.35 million TPE.

In exiting Howard, the Orlando executed the following:

-Christian Eyenga and Josh McRoberts via the $4.35 million Anderson TPE, leaving a negligible remainder of $40,920.

-Arron Afflalo and Al Harrington for Jason Richardson, Chris Duhon and Earl Clark.

-Mo Harkless via the Brandon Bass TPE, leaving a remainder of $1,018,040 which expires on December 12

-Nikola Vucevic for Dwight Howard, generating a TPE of $17,816,880 which won’t expire until next August 10, 2013.

-So in simplistic terms, Howard was traded for Nikola Vucevic and whatever that massive TPE yields over the next year.

The Magic are rebuilding and initially may not look to spend. The team just climbed down from tax territory to about $6.2 million under the $70.3 million tax threshold.

Even if the team holds through the trade deadline in February, the Magic go into the June 2013 NBA Draft and July free agency with a powerful tool. Orlando may also look to help broker a deal should two teams need a third to execute a complicated transaction. The Magic would love to continue collect draft picks and young talent.

It remains to be seen how well Magic general manager Rob Hennigan did with the Howard trade but given the intricacy, he clearly didn’t rush into a frivolous decision.

Celtics look like they might be getting Josh Smith this season since he doesn't want to sign any extension with the Hawks while also recently being involved as the only non-Celtic player who showed up at Rondo's team workout in LA.

Either they get him in a sign-and-trade deal with Atlanta this year or get him the following offseason without giving up anyone.

Yuppers. This is their new alternate. If you think these are bad you just wait. I'm excited to see what the Net's uni's look like here's a fan rendition. This actually looks great.

HOWEVER Paul Lukas has confirmed that these are not them. He also says that he likes the design which means that it is simple and clean and a bit old school

Despite Reddit being the worst site on the internet, they had a surprisingly honest comment interview with the Rockets GM:

http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/10mrkx/iam_the_houston_rockets_gm_ama/

The whole process they have to go through to get an all-star is convoluted and kind of why I stopped following it as much as I grew up. Still makes me want to go home and dig out my Rockets Pippen jersey :'(

"I'm done trying to prove I'm the No. 2 pick and that [expletive] stuff," Milicic told CSNNE.com. "This year, it's all about Celtics, to show that I am a team player. It's not about me. It's about us as a team.

Milicic added: "I'll do whatever it takes, whatever I need to do to help this team. So now, if I have to go kill someone on the court, I'll kill someone on the court."

Also, the NBA will begin fining players $5,000-$30, 000 for flopping.

It's a start, but people should also get deported if they flop.

Even if they are American.

Have a feeling even with the new rules, superstars won't be punished as harshly as regular players just like with every rule in the NBA. Also doesn't really combat that the refs are really inconsistent when it comes to flopping and legit charges being called.

If they just start calling technicals and ejecting people for flopping maybe it can put and end to this bullshit

Lol @ Metta World Peace

Reporter: Is Steve Nash the smartest guy on the Lakers?

Metta: Probably, he is white.
