I don't know why so many experts and fans are pissing on this draft. There is a lot of depth at key positions like pass rusher and corner. Even the QB talk is ridiculous. So many of the experts dumping on guys like Smith, Barkley and Nassib were the same ones scoffing at the likes of Wilson and Tannehill.
I'm excited for this draft, especially with the rumors of the Birds trying to move up. Would love if they pulled a Julio for a guy like Dion Jordan.

Jags reportedly trying to trade up for more picks. Possibly take Barkley? Why take him in the first round though? If he's still there on day 2, and you have the 33rd overall pick, take him then. God knows he is a serious upgrade over Blame Gabbert and Chad Henne.

Though it wasn't a sexy pick and I would have probably preferred Ogletree...I'm kinda surprised at the negativity from Giants fans on the Pugh pick. They did need help on the line. Beatty's the only guy on their line who won't be 30 or older by the time the season starts. Diehl is reaching the end of his rope, and Snee has said he may retire after next year.
Like most Reese first rounders, Pugh will probably not be starting Week 1 barring injury. But he seems like less of a project lineman than the James Brewers of the world.

Most had Frederick grading out as a 3rd rounder, some even a 4th rounder. Unless they got a report that another team had an absolute hard-on for him, I see no way he wouldn't have still been there for Dallas at #45. To say Pugh's just as big of a reach as him is stupid. Frederick and Manuel were the biggest reaches of the first round.
Pugh graded out as the #22 top player on the board and went at #19. I'll take it.

I'd rather take Nassib, but that's just me. If we take Smith today, he'll either have something to prove for not being drafted first round, or he'll be a huge tit and play like shit because he went second round.

Hate how drafts are "graded" immediately. Sure some picks are stupid or dont seem to make sense as soon as they're announced (Kyle Brady, JaMarcus Russell, Heyward-Bey) but most opinion should be held for about 2 years or so, I think.

Neither if you're basing it on the draft. The Raiders got arguably the best corner in the draft and the Jets got two highly regarded defensive players. Maybe they could have moved back to take Eifert, but it's not that bad a draft for them on paper at this point.

Totally agree.
Look at the Vikings 2005 draft
1: Troy Williamson - lasted 2 seasons - taken ahead of Roddy White, Vincent Jackson,
1: Erasmus James - lasted 2 seasons - taken ahead of Luis Castillo, Justin Tuck
2: Marcus Johnson - lasted 3 seasons
3: Dustin Fox - broke arm in first training session - never saw the field with the team
4: Ciatrick Fason - lasted 2 seasons - 161 yards on 50 carries
6: C.J.Mosley - lasted 1 season - only player from the draft still in the NFL
7: Adrian Ward - cut before the season began.
Looked on paper a solid draft that dealt with positions of need. 7 years later it is a horrible draft that set the team back years.
Ask me in 5 years time whether a draft is an A+ or a F-
The other thing that I hate is the fact that no one ever comes back to Mel Kipper or any of the draft 'gurus' and points out how many of the players they've bigged up have been total busts. I'd love it if someone were to do some fact checking on their success rates.

That DT is a beast and they lack pass rushers on the line but the Jets are the absolute worst on offense.. This would be like if the Saints had picked up a skilled offensive player in the first..
IMO they should have helped out Flynn with a skilled O player.. Just like the Jets should have helped out Sanchize the same way.. I like the Milliner pick cause of Revis but that second pick is suspect, even though that kid will have a good career..

True
Everyone is giving this Vacaro kid a really good grade, saying that he lacks ball hawk skills but is a maniac tackler and can shutdown the run and lockdown WR.. Harpers lack of coverage skills killed us against the 9ers last season and in the 2012 playoffs so I guess we did need a guy like that, it's just I really wanted a bestmode pass rusher..
p.s. what time does it start today??

Geno Smith to Jacksonville makes sense - I did see some mocks having them take him with their 1st rd pick.
But it also shows the folly of the draft - Blaine Gabbert ends up out on his ear after two seasons. Joining a long list of 1st round QB busts.

2 years ago Gabbert blamed his horrible play on having no WR's. Now he has Blackmon, Shorts III, and Mossaqui. Last year he blamed his poor play on a shitty O-Line. Now he has two beasts blocking for him in Monroe and Joeckel, a decent pair of guards in Nwaneri and Rackley, and an aged vet under center in Meester. It's time to either show the world what you can do and lead this team, or GTFO and let somebody better take over. Period. No excuse Blame.

Blaine Gabbert vs Jimmy Clausen vs Christian Ponder for biggest bust QB since Jamarcus Russell.
Emperor Smeat
04-26-2013, 02:43 PM
Think Mark Sanchez or Brady Quinn might qualify as bigger ones instead.
Clausen's bust potential comes from the Panthers just pulling the plug on him after 3 games and then drafting Newton the next year. No chance to develop nor have enough time to develop a horrible resume. Gabbert could probably be blamed more on the Jags team being really bad and him potentially becoming the next "David Carr" (lots of sacks and fumbles).

Quinn gets a pass as being drafted by the Browns means that your career is automatically fucked from the get-go.
Same for Sanchez really - on a better team with decent coaches he'd be a decent player.
Alex Smith was pretty horrible for most of his career - until he got a decent coach.
Matt Leinhart was amusingly bad.
Actually a good game would be to try to predict who the biggest busts will be in this years first round.
Who is this years Vernon Gholston?

On a weekend where a former LSU football player was to be celebrated by his hometown for moving on to the NFL, he instead found himself in legal hot water that leaves his draft stock in question.
Ex-LSU cornerback Tharold Simon was arrested Thursday night and charged with public intimidation, resisting arrest and unnecessary noise in his hometown of Eunice, La.
Lafayette, La., television station KATC reported that Simon's vehicle was blocking a street and he was asked to move it. According to the report, he told the officer, "I own Eunice" and "I'm going to buy these projects and you are going to be mine," before getting into his car.
The report said Simon spun his wheels, "backed up in an aggressive manner" and "turned his radio all the way up." When he was arrested, he reportedly told the officer that "the mayor was on my side" and that the officer would be fired for giving him a ticket.
