Yanks are getting hot, I think they are going to pass the Sox the 2nd Half.

Matsui is coming back, Hughes is rehabbing, and Damon is hitting off a tee. The Yanks are hot and have HELP coming.

If they add Damaso Marte or Fuentes, they will be Nasty.

As I guessed, Justin Morneau is the final HR derby participant. Ichiro had said he would have participated if asked...that would have been awesome to watch.

And Carlos Marmlol will replace Kerry Wood on the NL AS Game roster.

If Carlos Marmol is replacing Wood, then some lucky American League late inning pitcher will be getting a win.

Yep, between Carlos Marmlol and Brian Wilson I don't really see how the NL can win.

My guess is that the AL is down in the 8th but they manage to take the lead off of Lidge (he hasn't surrendered a HR yet this year so he's due) and that sets up the Rivera save that MLB wants.

Who guys got in the Homerun derby? Me I am going with Josh Hamilton because I just heard on SportsCenter that God said so

LOL, did anyone see Utley say "fuck you" to the crowd after he was booed during introductions. Must be a ton of Mets fans there today.

Also, was just reading something about Papelbon saying he thinks he deserves to close the All-Star game. Besides the fact that it is the last year in Yankee Stadium and the fact that Mariano will probably go down as one of the best closers ever, Rivera is having a better year than him this year anyway. I could only imagine the reaction at Yankee Stadium if Papelbon comes running out during the 9th; it'd be mayhem lol.

but a Red Sox player says it, so it is total bullshit and disrespectful to the Yankees :o

People used to sit there but batters complained it was right in the batting eye so they blacked out the section and don't let anyone sit there. There's not even seats there anymore. It's just kinda like sidewalk painted black - steps with the bleachers removed.

Also, Justin Morneau is the biggest buzzkill ever. First he steals Derek Jeter's MVP award and now this

Evil Vito
07-15-2008, 12:34 AM
Oh yeah and one other thing...maybe this just annoyed me because I'm a Mets fan....but during the ESPN game yesterday, at Shea Stadium....a stadium that's gonna get torn down, they spent like 3 minutes tops talking about how it was the last year at Shea but spent a solid 2-3 innings harping on about all the experiences at YANKEE Stadium.

Now don't get me wrong...I get that Yankee Stadium obviously has a lot more history, is more heralded, and the AS Game is gonna be there...but christ, you'd think absolutely nothing happened at Shea in its 44 years listening to the ESPN guys. Hell, one of the most replayed moments in baseball history happened there. I know they are idiots, but that just pissed me off. Not to mention, they were just at Yankee Stadium the week earlier so they could have talked about that then.

Guess I'm just a little annoyed of the NY media not giving a shit about Shea. Again, it might just be because I'm a Met fan and have a personal attachment to the stadium. :-\

Evil Vito
07-15-2008, 12:48 AM
I realize its a dump, and for that I'm glad a change is coming. But it just annoys me that they seemed to make it look like Shea was a one year rental stadium...as if NOTHING had ever happened there. :o

Evil Vito
07-15-2008, 11:17 AM
Wow, apparently Bonds' agent has said he's now willing to sign for the league minimum. I'm normally not big on conspiracy theories but even I have to say now that MLB told each team to not sign him. I doubt ALL 30 teams would pass on him for such a cheap price.

I can see a big market team not wanting him, but a team like the Royals could draw a shitload of publicity and possibly even avoid the cellar with the Tribe sucking hard. :o

The starters are determined by a fan ballot. Whoever receives the most fan votes is named the starter for his respective position. The reason Russell Martin did not start this game is because he did not receive the greatest number of fan votes for a National League Catcher.

Hope that helps:y:

I bet Hurdle just put McCann in there because he felt bad that he would have been the ONLY player not used. Fucking Hurdle.

The only chance the NL ever has at winning an AS game again is getting lucky and blowing out a pitcher for 5 runs or something....ONLY chance. You can't let the AL hang in there.

I hope Lidge sucks the rest of this year.

Crazy game. Weak ending though with a sac fly after 15 innings. I have a feeling if Morneau was within 20 feet of the bag he would have been called safe. Would have been a terrible situation for Francona to be in having to throw Kazmir out there again. Francona's reaction was pretty great, he was probably the happiest person there when it was done.

I also thought Lidge might give up a huge HR and then suck for the next year.

JD Drew winning the All Star MVP in Yankee Stadium...YESSS

Also, I read on another message board that JD was the next in line to pitch - that would have been great.

But I agree about changing the catcher, they should have taken out Wright and let McCann DH for one at bat instead. Never realized Martin was so good behind the plate (also never see Dodgers games since I live in Boston...)

THE HOUSE THAT JD DREW BUILT

Like no chance of this happening but I hope the Yankees flatter in the second half and finish in like a distant 3rd in the AL East with the last memorable Yankee Stadium moment being JD Drew getting on base 4 times (+ a 2 run homer) and locking up the MVP award in the 15 inning All Star Game.

Here's a neat little stat that might be important for the end of the year: of the Rays, Sox, and Yanks, only New York is at .500 on the road. Tampa is 6 games under and Boston is 7 games under. If only the Yankees were better at home they'd have a legit chance of winning the East.

Destiny-wise the Yankees pretty much have to win the World Series this year. Everything is set up so perfect for them to win. It's Yankee Stadium's last year, they held the All Star Game at Yankee Stadium and had a nice ceremony for past greats before the game, Goose Gossage is the only player going into the Hall of Fame this year, everything is set up for them to have a magical World Series run. Don't fuck up.

Gonna be interesting to see how guys like Lidge, Kazmir, Webb, Sherrill, etc. all respond immediately after the break. Wouldn't shock me at all to see new rules next year on who can be eligible to pitch and how pitchers can be used, etc.

Ultimately, I think they should scrap the entire home field advantage in the WS rule and accept that it's an exhibition game. It's meant to be a break from the season but the players all looked stressed to hell yesterday. If they insist on putting home field on the line, they need to let the managers of each league get together and pick everyone on the team...no fans, no players, none of that.

Still don't see what's wrong with giving home field to whoever has the best record going into the WS (in a case of a tie they use head to head, vs. division, etc. as tiebreakers)...it'd most likely be an AL team anyway but at least it makes more sense. MLB would never do it because it would complicate ticket sales but that's how it should be done.

Yeah there are definitely gonna be some rule changes for next year. I think the easiest is to just get rid of the stip because that would just make the whole thing more relaxed and you wouldn't have to worry about it.

Hell, since the AL usually wins anyway, just make home field based on interleague play. It would at least avoid the AS Game drama with the availability of pitchers.

Heard a good idea on ATH just now. Select your AS team as usual...but then, each starting pitcher has to agree to pitch at least 3 innings unless they rack up a ton of pitches through those 3 (which is usually not a problem in the AS game)...if not, they can come to get introduced and all that but they have an alternate picked to pitch instead. Eliminates any pitching problems and avoids having David Wright vs. JD Drew for homefield.

And most of the panel said that putting home field in the WS is a good idea. I know the numbers prove otherwise but I don't really see what the big deal about homefield is unless you get a tie game in the 9th or something. Maybe I only think that because I saw the Giants win 11 straight on the road so I know that homefield doesn't matter to some people.

Navarro overthrew on a steal attempt and allowed the runner to get to 3rd who then scored on a sac fly - I really don't see how that's blowing it either.

I kind of wish the game went longer just because I am now hearing more and more positional guys who where willing to step up and pitch. Would be hilarious if home field advantage in the World Series (gotta be one of the stupidest things ever too) was decided by David Wright or J.D. Drew on the mound. Drew probably would have struck out the side though to add to the greatest All Star game performance in Yankee Stadium ever. ;)

The Yanks needed Wang this year. if he can somehow rebound quicker, and be ready for the playoffs, then its fucking on.

But I agree, they just need to nab a solid 3 or 4 for the playoff rotation. I will take Pettite/Muss/Joba/Pickup as the 4 man group based on experience and Joba's studliness.

Offensively, they are slumping this year, so they dont need to make a move, they need to stop fucking up.

seriously

Damon is amazing this year
Jeter is an All Star
Abreu is a great producer
A Rod is fucking amazing as always
Giambi provides solid power, OBP and runs, wears out pitchers, but low BA
Matsui should be back before too long and he is a great hitter
Cano is his usual 2nd half stud
Melky is the yanks Eckstein. Always gets it done with no flashy numbers.
Posada is still a solid hitter
Sexson/Molina are a good bench combo (Sexson is hitting like 320 this year against lefties, so he has a spot starter/Pinch Hitter use)

The Yanks have as good and offense as anyone, they just need to all click at once like they always do the 2nd half.

Now, we need to figure out who the pitcher is. I imagine we will rent Burnett since he is going to opt out, and they will overpay.

I wouldnt mind seeing a guy like Aaron Cook as our 4th starter.

Vidro will be a nice bat off the bench.

Minor deal, we really needed something better, and might have to make another move.

What? I gotta see this lol

It wasn't anything special. Basically Moyer was at bat and he lost control of it and the bat flew. Delgado was closest to it so he picked it up and chucked it back.....not AT Moyer.....he just lobbed it in his general direction to speed things up. Delgado laughed it off, Moyer looked pissed though.

Then later on when Delgado came to the plate Moyer threw somewhat inside...then the next pitch Delgado tried to bunt and that pissed Moyer off even more for some reason.

there is some random reports that Halliday has told the Blue Jays he wants a trade... and they're talking to NL teams.

I wouldn't be completely surprised as Hallady has voiced over the last 1 1/2 that he's tired of mediocrity. He's been saying that to spark his team, but at some point I'd bet he'd get frustrated and want out. They just signed him though to a multi year multi $$$ contract so they'll do everything they can to keep him.

wow @ the idea of Bonds going up to bat in Yankee Stadium as a Yankee. No way, do not do this.

didn't I just say this on like the last page.

But I heard this morning that basically it was just talk. They were basically going through every single player available out there and giving thoughts. It's like they had a list of players and went through the names one by one

Nady just got pulled from the Pirates game and Marte was shown in the dugout shaking hands as well. And supposedly the Yanks pulled their pitcher from a AA game. Hmm...
