They also need more 3 Doors Down songs like Loser, When I'm Gone, Train, It's Not My Time, The Road I'm On, just to name a few.

Yeah, never cared much for Jane's Addiction.

Been listening to the album Songs for the Deaf, by Queens of the Stone Age, and think it would make a great full album download for this.

:mad: Just forget it. I'll continue to keep an open mind and you all can continue doing your thing.

Kane Knight
04-28-2009, 05:28 PM
Ah. The "open mind" strawman.

Works better when the person using it doesn't have such an established "hate list."

D Mac
04-29-2009, 12:34 AM
The only people I really hate are Axl Rose and Billy Corrigan.

Fignuts
04-29-2009, 01:05 AM
I have a broader tate in music, than anyone I've ever met. So that was a pretty funny comment D-mac.

I "hate" a lot of musicians, but it rarely impacts my interest in their music.

I have a broader tate in music, than anyone I've ever met. So that was a pretty funny comment D-mac.

Saying you don't have an "open mind" is just code for "you don't like the exact same bands I do."

In D-Mac's case, it means "You've never got a restraining order from Lars Ulrich for the poems you wrote him."

:D

Snoop Doggy Dogg :wtf:

God Damn, something I think we can both agree sucks.

Funky Fly
04-30-2009, 06:32 PM
Wha? WTF are they doing?

D Mac
04-30-2009, 08:19 PM
It's not confirmed or anything, just speculation. Gin and Juice was mentioned.

Funky Fly
04-30-2009, 08:22 PM
Definite bullshit. The focus in that song is the lyrics. The bass line and beat are looped and I doubt you'll be playing the synth on keyboard (also looped).

Kane Knight
04-30-2009, 10:05 PM
It's not confirmed or anything, just speculation. Gin and Juice was mentioned.

However, Snoop has been confirmed. Not necessarily for this week, but we've known for months that he was coming.

After playing "So Watcha Want" and "No Sleep Til Brooklyn," I seriously have to wonder what people think when they toss rap into these games. Both songs are incredibly boring. Most rap will be, and since they don't even grade talkies on accuracy...

This being said, not every song will suck. But the song selections theyove done so far are fairly WTF.

Funky Fly
05-01-2009, 12:22 AM
There is much better rap to use if they absolutely need to use rap. Songs that are actually more than just a loop with certain instruments dropping in and out.

DaveWadding

What Would Kevin Do?
05-01-2009, 12:59 AM
You know, I'm not saying it'll happen, because it probably won't, but Snoop could always rerecord some shit to make it more Rock Band friendly. Personally, I'd kill for a redone Murder was the Case with some guitars in it.

It's a stew! Next week's Rock Band Weekly (http://joystiq.com/tag/rock-band-weekly) DLC is a mixture of artists from disparate genres of music. Actually, now that we said that, we're sure some Pandora (http://www.pandora.com/) nut will tell us the tonal harmonic frequencies of each band's base structure is similar -- but we digress. So, figure out if you want to -- do you, do you want to -- purchase some of these tracks next week?

what

Funky Fly
05-01-2009, 07:34 PM
I'd rather that Michael Jackson do what the Sex Pistols did for GH3 and rerecord the song. Do the instruments over so that it's less synth and more guitar/bass/drums. Kinda think Alien Ant Farm is shit and that their cover was kinda meh. I mean, it wasn't as bad as Fallout Boy doing Beat It, but it's not a particularly outstanding cover to me.

Rock Band Country Track Pack coming July 21 (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/12/rock-band-country-track-pack-coming-july-21/)

We know that many of you will roll your eyes and scroll right along when we tell you that EA/MTV/Harmonix has just announced the stand-alone Rock Band Country Track Pack coming to 360, PS3, PS2 and Wii on July 21. That's fine, we understand. Even if you have a passing interest, you'll be able to check them all out when they eventually make their way to the Rock Band Music Store.

But before you go, you should know that the $30 pack of 21 songs includes one of the greatest recordings of all time, Kenny Rogers' "The Gambler." Sure, there are other songs on there, we've even put a list of the first few after the break. But if you boot up "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy" before "The Gambler," we're going to cut off Travis Tritt's mullet and feed it to you.

Alan Jackson -- Good Time
Brooks & Dunn -- Hillbilly Deluxe
Dierks Bentley -- Free & Easy (Down the Road I Go)
Dixie Chicks -- Sin Wagon
Drive-By Truckers -- 3 Dimes Down
Jason Aldean -- She's Country
Kenny Chesney -- She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy
Kenny Rogers -- The Gambler
Lucinda Williams -- Can't Let Go
Martina McBride -- This One's For the Girls
Rascal Flatts -- Me and My Gang
Shania Twain -- Any Man of Mine
Steve Earle -- Satellite Radio

Next week brings another eclectic selection for Rock Band Weekly (http://joystiq.com/tag/rock-band-weekly), as metal meets rock with a dash of The Cranberries. For male vocalists, it'll be fun to warm up with some Zombies and then rip those vocal cords apart trying to sing Ministry tracks.

Ministry Pack 01 (440http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif / $5.50 on PS3/ Only available individually on Wii)

Hey everybody,

So Iron Maiden comes in two weeks but what's next week? It is the Bonnaroo Pack in honor of the Bonnaroo Music and Arts festival in Tennessee (which I am sadly not going to this year). Who do we have? How about Ben Harper, how about the much requested Coheed and Cambria, or Phish, or Shooter jennings, or TV on the Radio? yeah we have all those in a big six-pack coming next week.

Tracks:
Ben Harper and Relentless7 “Shimmer & Shine”
Coheed and Cambria “A Favor House Atlantic”
Coheed and Cambria “The Running Free”
Phish “Wilson (live)”
Shooter Jennings “Steady at the Wheel”
TV on the Radio “Wolf Like Me”
(All tracks are original master recordings)
These tracks will be available for purchase as part of the “Bonnaroo Pack” or as individual tracks for Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 systems.

Release Date:
Tuesday, June 2, 2009
(Xbox LIVE Marketplace for Xbox 360)
Thursday, June 4, 2009
(PlayStation®Store)
** Dates for Rock Band game tracks are tentative and subject to change **

It's probabaly already been answered before but can you use the Guitar Hero guitar with Rock Band? Or does it have to be the guitar that comes with Rock Band.

Can someone also explain to me the differences between the two games. Thanks.

Yes, all guitars are compatible. Note Activision had to be grilled to have this happen.

No, it's not. I played one the other day and it took batteries and uses a receiver which is plugged into the USB port. You're thinking of the GH guitar.

Harmonix has been hinting around this, but now we have some official word: Green Day is bringing tracks to Rock Band (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rock-band) via DLC in three-song packs. The first will arrive on July 7 and will include ... why, their new stuff, of course! Just like you were hoping! Specifically, you can look for "21 Guns," "Know Your Enemy" and "East Jesus Nowhere" from the band's new 21st Century Breakdown.

Before you lose your mind, take heart! More (hopefully earlier) material from the band is coming on an unannounced date. Can we request "All By Myself"?

Music video submissions will be accepted through July 28 at www.PepsiRockBand.com. NOW YOU WONT HAVE TO BE IN TALKS

http://www.destructoid.com/user-generated-content-coming-to-rock-band-in-a-big-way-140244.phtml

Hey musicians, are you sitting down?

MTV has announced a new initiative that will allow musicians to author and upload their own content to Rock Band, in a service called the Rock Band Network that launches later this year. Currently in a closed beta trial, the service will allow bands, studios, and record labels to create and sell playable game content from their very own master recordings, using the same in-house tools currently being used by Harmonix developers.

Once submitted, the songs go through a a review process that checks for playability, offensive lyrical content, and things like copyright infringement. Approved tracks are put into the Rock Band Network store (separate from the current store), with creators setting their own prices, which can range from 50 cents to $3 per song. Creators will then receive 30% of any sales.*

Billboard has a ton of details on the service, which will launch first for Xbox 360 (as it relies on Microsoft's XNA platform), with tracks being made available for PlayStation 3 and Wii in the future.*

Harmonix has also launched the Rock Band Network site, which features videos and details on how creators (that could be you... or Nickelback, theoretically) can start working to get their music in the game.

So much for the appeal of GH's music studio.

GHTunes is still free and works for people who might not have the chops or interest in producing...how to put it? "Real music" sounds wrong, since a number of the people who make GHT tracks are obviously talented and do great music within the limits, but...

Bit more clarification in the press release

MTV Games and Harmonix Empower Artists and Labels to Get Their Music in the Game with the Rock Band Network

The Rock Band Network Gives Artists and Record Labels Tools to Author, Promote and Sell Music for Download via the Rock Band Platform

CAMBRIDGE, MA and NEW YORK, NY – July 17, 2009 – Harmonix Music Systems and MTV Games, a part of Viacom’s MTV Networks (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B), today announced the Rock Band Network, a ground-breaking initiative that gives musicians and record labels the ability to author their own original recordings into gameplay files and sell their music as playable Rock Band tracks through the newly-created Rock Band Network Music Store. The introduction of the Rock Band Network marks a fundamental shift in the exposure music games can give emerging and established artists through innovative technologies that will open new revenue streams and promotional avenues.

"Our goal with Rock Band has always been to go beyond making music games and create a true music platform," said Alex Rigopulos, CEO and co-founder of Harmonix. "With the Rock Band Network, we've evolved the platform to its next logical step, giving players access to an incredible amount of new music by putting the professional tools we use in the hands of the artists themselves."

"The Rock Band Network enables songwriters and musicians – at any stage of their careers – to create their own paths through the interactive music realm," said Paul DeGooyer, Senior Vice President, Electronic Games and Music, MTV Networks Music Group. "Our download store has been an extraordinary success, and it’s exciting for us to provide access to our platform through this uniquely elegant solution."

The Rock Band Network will launch as an open beta in late August 2009 in the U.S. and provide a sophisticated toolset, with detailed documentation on how bands can begin the process of authoring songs into Rock Band gameplay files. Authors will be able to submit tracks for playtesting and peer review via a specialized Web site, Creators.RockBand.com. Potential publishers will need a membership to Microsoft’s XNA Creators Club Online in order to test and publish game content. The service will only be available to those who purchase a premium membership to Microsoft’s XNA Creators Club Online, which can be purchased for four months at $49.99 or for a year at $99.99.

“The proven strength and stability of Microsoft’s game development tools, technologies and services allowed Harmonix to focus on making an easy-to-use experience for authors without needing to reinvent the wheel,” said Dave Mitchell, product unit manager, XNA publishing platform. “Rock Band Network is a model example of integration with XNA Creators Club Online.”

Once tracks are approved, they will be transferred to the Rock Band Network Store, an in-game music marketplace where millions of Rock Band fans will be able to demo samples of the songs for free before they purchase. Songs will debut exclusively on Xbox 360 for 30 days. Artists featured in the store will be able to choose from multiple pricing tiers for individual tracks and will be compensated via a simple payment system that provides automated accounting and regular royalty payments.

Tracks for the Rock Band Network will be made available later in the fall on the Xbox 360® video game entertainment system from Microsoft. Stand out tracks will follow on the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and Wii™ console. Joining the more than 750 tracks available to date, the Rock Band Network Store will greatly increase the amount of music available through the Rock Band music platform and further confirm MTV Games and Harmonix’s position as the leading provider of downloadable content for music-based video games.

So you have to subscribe to MS's creation club and only the 360 will get everything with stand-out tracks being ported to PS3 and Wii.

Also, You can't really fault them for using the XNA Creator's Club as a platform. It's perfectly integrated with the 360, so it saves on having to develop another system for song importing and charting that is simpler than what Harmonix already uses. Remember, the idea behind this is that any crumbum can import, tune and chart their shit without understanding game development.

Sony figured they were on top of the user created content world with LBP, but this is beyond what any of us saw happening when these systems first hit the market. And I'm surprised this is coming to the Wii at all.

Yeah, except you know, they have a minimum charge. Defer to the literate people, figgy.

This isn't a replacement for GHTunes. This is a method by which acts can make DLC without going through a larger, lengthier process. This is awesome for artists who want to promote their work, but it will NOT be free.

Riding on the coattails of last Friday’s Rock Band Network reveal, indie label Sub Pop is the first record company to officially pledge its support for the new DLC initiative. Rolling Stone spoke with Sub Pop A&R exec Tony Kiewel, who said, “This conceivably could be the opening of the floodgates.” Sub Pop intends to convert its “entire catalog” — which includes Sonic Youth, early Nirvana, and The Postal Service — to playable tracks.

Additionally, Kiewel notes that future artists’ releases on his label will automatically get the Rock Band treatment. “This’ll be another format alongside vinyl and CD.” The only difference between buying the newest Shins album from the Rock Band Network versus at the record store? The disdainful look from the Paramore t-shirt-clad cashier on your way out of the record store.

Now for some artists with Sub Pop:

* Nirvana
* Sonic Youth
* The Postal Service
* Flight of the Conchords
* Cansei de Ser Sexy
* L7
* Handsome Furs
* Death Cab for Cutie
* Hole
* Dinosaur Jr.
* Hot Hot Heat
* Low
* Reverend Horton Heat
* Tristessa by Smashing Pumpkins
* Rogue Wave
* Sleater-Kinney
* Soundgarden
* The Go! Team
* I Just Wasn’t Made for These Times by The Beach Boys
* The Walkabouts
* The White Stripes
* Turbonegro
* The Shins

Saw that they had Spinal tap but didn't bother d/ling or previewing till just then because I was going to see if Trials HD was any good. Since it sucks, I used the points I had allocated for it for those Tap songs and during the previews I was unpleasantly surprised. Still, it's not like they botched them or whatever and I picked up most of them.

Kane Knight
08-16-2009, 10:30 AM
I didn't really know shit about Trials HD. I DLed the demo, found it sucked ass, and moved on. I bought most of the Tap pack because I love those songs. Little surprised there was so much backlash. Skipped Flower People and Funky Sex Farm, along with a couple others. Nothing against those songs, but I'm holding out for the versions from TIST at some point. And I'm not buying Cups and Cakes.
