These ridiculous amount of injuries will help the Broncos a lot leading up to their bye, starting this Sunday:
San Diego
New Orleans
Kansas City
Tampa Bay
Jacksonville
New England

I don't care if they lose week 3, so long as they win week 2 and 4. Beating NE would be nice too, so I don't have to hear about it from my mom

Yep, she was born and raised in Rhode Island. When the Red Sox swept the Rockies, oh yes did I hear about it. Anytime the Pats win a game, make the playoffs, make it to a Super Bowl, win a Super Bowl, I hear about it. She says she loves both the Broncos and the Patriots, but the Patriots will always come first

ROMO’S GOOD DEED
Posted by Mike Florio on September 11, 2008, 10:25 a.m. EDT
Though we’re always skeptical of celebrities and pro athletes who do something nice for someone else and then send an e-mail to every newspaper in the country announcing their good deed, we’ve got a feeling that the recent Samaritan-style actions of Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo weren’t intended to garner the kind of good karma that comes from, say, a grandstanding donation of $10,000 to a smattering of charitable causes. (Then again, grandstanding donations of $10,000 to a smattering of charitable causes didn’t help Mike Vick in the karma department.)
On his way home from Sunday’s game against the Browns, Romo stopped to help a couple who was struggling to repair a flat tire.
Bill and Sharon White didn’t initially recognize Romo, due in part to the bandage on his chin that was covering the 13 stitches he received after taking a helmet to the jaw.
The light flickered for Sharon White while Romo was working on the tire. He didn’t answer when she asked if he was who he is. She repeated her question when he finished pumping air into the tire from a cigarette-lighter compressor.
“I didn’t want to bother him,” Sharon said, “but I asked again, ‘You’re Tony Romo, right?’ I knew it was him by then. But he smiled and said, ‘Yes, ma’am.’ I did something no 50-year-old woman should be doing, but I screamed real loud, and then jumped up and hugged him.”
Her husband, Bill, was less concerned about his wife’s PDA with a studly young athlete than he was about ruining his ability to watch the Cowboys-Browns game without knowing the outcome: “Don’t tell me how you guys did,” Bill White said. “I’m going home to watch it.”
Romo didn’t publicize his actions at all; the team didn’t even know about it as of Wednesday. If Sharon White hadn’t sent an e-mail to Randy Galloway of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the story might never have been known.
“He gets almost knocked cold in that game, and I read it took 13 stitches to close the cut, and then there’s a long flight home and Tony’s got to be dog tired, but he still was a good enough person to stop and help us,” Bill White said.
“Look, we’re driving a 10-year old car that is sitting in a parking lot with a flat tire in the dead of night. He could tell by that we’re nothing special. But here’s a young man making millions of dollars, and he’s got all this fame and glory, and he does this? . . . This was a good person we met. A good person with small-town values despite all the big-city fame and fortune.
“[I]f I ever had the opportunity, I’d also like to thank two other people. His mom and dad. They obviously raised him right.”

Romo could have single handedly run into both buildings of the World Trade Center on September 11th, saved every single man, woman and child and taken every terrorist directly to the proper authorities and certain people would still despise him. I guess that's what happens when you get to that point of greatness. :o

That sounds reasonable.
And personally, I don't think the Rams suck that bad. Maybe it's just me wanting to make excuses for a team that (at least here) gets a lot of hate, but I really don't see them as a BAD team, exactly. I dunno what it is, but I just personally feel that they're playing way below the level they should, not that they're a bad team.

As the Colts QB, Peyton Manning lost his first three playoff games. Romo has lost his first two and has put up better stats than Manning did at that point. Peyton Manning is considered one of the greatest QBs of all time.
Anyone who uses the playoff argument to explain why Romo "sucks" is retarded. Just sayin'.

I don't know much about his coaching but I like this Kiffin guy.
the Crypt keeper told him to resign in the offseason and kiffin said "no, I have a contract, you don't want me, fire me and pay me".

That division is wide open, with the exception of Miami. I still think Miami may be able to steal a game from any of their division opponents. I wouldn't be shocked to see them go 3-3 or something. Buffalo sure is looking pretty tough right now. Edwards played much better today, judging by the #'s.

Buffalo goes into Jacksonville and beats one of the best teams in the AFC over the last few years.
Edwards is the real deal. He is just so damn efficient and cool. marched down the field and won the game. Amazing poise for a 2nd year QB starting his 10 or so game. Awesome.
Pats are still the team to beat in the AFC east, not doubt, but I honestly feel like the Bills havea shot to win at least one against them this year. In years past there has just been a huge gap. But they could be a spoiler. I still think they can win 10 and take a wildcard.

Horrible game today.. Have no fucking clue why Deuce was dressed out only to carry the ball twice late in the game.. I can see trying to "save" his knees but why even dress him out?? We can not establish the running game with a between the tackles "bruiser" so with Stecker out also, that threw out offensive rhythm off from the start.. The two plays the Deuce did play you could see the Skins safties drop down.. This could've opened up over the top for guys like David Patten and Devery Henderson.. Still too many turnovers.. Two more picks from Brees but neither was his fault as it popped off a WR shoulderpads.. Then the Shockey fumble..

So, Jackson single handedly cost me 2 fantasy football games...
one team, I had him, and the TD would have been 12 points and won me the game.
the other team, it would have given McNabb 3 extra points and take 6 away from westbrook and would have won that game for me (person I played had westbrook)
on the other hand the covered so I went 6 for 6 and won my weekly pool...

Kornheiser isn't an announcer. It's just not for him. He can't analyze things in the moment. He doesn't know enough about football to provide enough of a contribution to warrant him being in the booth (although to be fair, knowledge about the sport you're covering is hardly a prerequisite to work for ESPN anymore).
I love Kornheiser but he's just way out of his element.

I remember listening to something on the Tirico and Van Pelt show about how the MNF broadcast team was told to keep it more about the game as there were numerous complaints from fans that there was too much gossip. I think Tirico and Jaws are doing a good job so far, but Kornheiser is out of his element, as Supreme suggested. They need to get a real good color guy. Tirico does a decent job on the play by play and Jaws is a good analyst.

Yeah last year the MNF lot seemed to just be joking and laughing A LOT through the game. I think they've kept Kornheiser for that element.
Do you agree with what he said about the Cowboys overtaking the Yankees as the biggest and most well known franchise in America now because of 'the blue star'?

Seahawks did some work today in the WR corps. They sign Koren Robinson to a one year deal today. They also aquire Keary Colbert from the Broncos. Word going around is that a 5th round pick is what Denver got in exchange with a shot at it being a 4th pending Colbert's performance.

The Saints have signed quarterback Joey Harrington, and he was on the field Friday in Metairie for the Saints' practice.
To make room on the roster, the Saints released defensive tackle Alvin McKinley.
Harrington last played with the Atlanta Falcons in 2007 and completed 62 percent of his passes for 2,215 yards with seven touchdowns and eight interceptions.
He played four seasons with the Detroit Lions, being drafted by Detroit out of Oregon in 2002, and his best season was 2004 when he completed 56 percent of his passes for 3,047 yards and 19 touchdowns.
He spent the 2006 season with the Miami Dolphins.
Also, the early word on injuries from Friday's practice is that tight end Mark Campbell has a pulled hamstring.
More details to come.
This is fucking gay gay gay..
As I said when this was rumored a few weeks ago, it's ridiculous to use a roster spot for a QB who pretty much sucks just as bad as any other unsigned QB out there.. As of right now, we have the best 1-2 punch at QB in the NFL.. If Brees and Marky Bruns go down there's no way Joey Harrington would lead us into the Promise Land, so why do we need a former starter who has sucked for every single team he's played for when we def need the roster spot for depth at pretty much every position on defense??
Fucking stupid..

GOD FORBID that Brees goes down, then Bruns, do they really thing Harrington would step up??
If Brees goes down the season will be pretty much shot, but Brunnell is a super solid back-up.. I just don't see why we need to carry a third QB after those two.. I mean if Brees and Bruns get hurt, we should then go after some unsigned QB, not now.. I bet Culpepper will still be sitting at home come December and he's 10 times the QB Harrington is..
Someone on my Saints message board said that they brought him in cause he's an INT machine so our secondary can work on picking the ball off more in practice..

Saints Head Coach Sean Payton said Harrington is a player the Saints have kept their eye on recently.
"Joey is a guy that we’ve kept our eye on and had in for a visit when we were in Indianapolis. Terrance Copper was our emergency third quarterback as we’ve been going into the games with just two. With Terrance out this week, we addressed that and felt like the timing was right in bringing Joey in here now. He’s a guy that we thought played pretty well for Atlanta last year on tape. He has ability. It’s a good opportunity for him to come in here under guys like (Drew) Brees and (Mark) Brunell, learn our system and for us to get a chance to develop and work with him. I think It’s a good fit."
I'd rather see Copper, who is a WR, in there instead of Harrington..

I thought Cincy really showed up today. They played well and seemed to get their offense going a bit. I thought Eli could have made some better throws on a selective handful of plays, but there were also 2-3 key drops where the pass was right in the bread basket. I was proud.. I mean, they clawed their way back in the second quarter and even after giving up a turnover for a TD, not getting in the endzone to finish the first half, and missing two FGs, we only lost by 2 to one of the best teams in the NFL ATM..

I dont really count that last TD by GB though. The Cowboys knew that GB needed to score 3 TD's to win so they just backed off and played to burn clock.

AL HARRIS COULD BE DONE FOR SEASON
Posted by Michael David Smith on September 22, 2008, 4:21 p.m. EDT
Green Bay Packers cornerback Al Harris has started every game since the Packers acquired him in a trade prior to the 2003 season, but that streak appears close to ending.
Harris, who had to leave Sunday night’s game against the Cowboys with an undisclosed injury, may have a ruptured spleen. He is reportedly getting a second opinion, but the injury could end his season.
Harris suffered the injury in the first quarter when he ran into Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk. Packers coach Mike McCarthy said after the game that doctors held him out because there was blood in his urine.
If Harris is out, Tramon Williams would likely move into the starting lineup opposite Charles Woodson.

Payton about the non-call:
What happened on the 3rd-and-1 play?
“That’s on me. It was a goal line defense and I should’ve taken a timeout. The clock had gone down and we have a package where we can out of a play and into another play and the clock was running down; Drew was doing a good job of trying to use the time to our advantage. The play-design all of a sudden becomes problematic in that there’s an extra guy on the back side. I thought that at the point of attack we blocked it well, Pierre did as good a job as he could have done and they were in a front that really made it tough for us to run the play.
“The thing that’s disappointing for me on that play was that earlier in the game we got called for a neutral zone infraction on Jo-Lonn Dunbar (http://neworleanssaints.com/Team/Roster/People/Jo-Lonn%20Dunbar.aspx), and I’m watching the game today on the coaches’ tape and on that 3rd-and-1, their linebacker to the point of attack looked to be in the neutral zone. I went back and I looked at the TV copy and he’s a yard-and-a-half in the neutral zone on our side of the line of scrimmage. That’s a hard pill for me to swallow on a critical play like that. Now it had no bearing on the outcome of the play in regards to the result but when something like that happens, it’s not a judgment call. It’s clearly a call that’s right in front of you as a line judge and you make it or you don’t make it. Usually when it’s close, the play goes on but my problem was that it wasn’t close. My problem was that this player not only was in the neutral zone but his whole head is across the line of scrimmage and past the ball before the ball is ever snapped and no call was made. I have a hard time swallowing that because obviously all these plays are important, but from a consistency standpoint, that same penalty was called against us earlier in the game. I can understand some judgment calls – ones that maybe could go either way – but when something like that isn’t called and it’s a neutral zone infraction, it’s discouraging.
“But we had plenty of opportunities. I didn’t want to get up here and start complaining about a lack of call. The play wasn’t a good play versus that front and I don’t think who the running back was would have mattered because there was guy coming free. That one’s on me.”
Could that have been a big play if not for the man coming free?
“It’s a big play, it’s a big gain the way it’s blocked. The problem is in a gaps defense there is one extra guy and Zach Strief (http://neworleanssaints.com/Team/Roster/People/Zach%20Strief.aspx) was doing his job to handle the down lineman and then there was one extra. To battle that you get into tighter formation and bring a receiver in tight to handle that extra guy, but those are all things that are hindsight. I think at the point of attack it was blocked extremely well considering there was a guy a yard offsides on defense.”

The Colts will win the Superbowl. I'm calling it now. They will win the Superbowl. It sucks to say this, but all we have to do is get into the playoffs. Then all bets are off. Are defense sucks. Its not because we dont Bob Sanders either. I'm sorry, but Bob Sanders wont make us tackle better...or does he? Hrmmmmmmmmmmmmm
But i dunno. I was so sick watching that Jacksonville game. The Mathis pick was clearly pass interference. I got a new rule. If you see Tony Dungy screaming at a referee, reguardless if you even saw the play or not, that ref was wrong.
I just hate the idea that we might not win the division. Believe it or not, winning the division, to me, is very important. I hate losing to division teams.

As I've said before, as a team, leaving the game in your kickers hands is bad news in any game.. Or Payton's fault for not calling a kick to end the first half?? Etc, etc..

On NFL.com the headline said 'Redskins' Taylor out vs. Dallas after calf procedure', and for a moment I thought they were referring to Sean Taylor, but then I realized he was dead.
DON'T JOKE ABOUT THAT!

KC was good like one year he was there.. Don't rememebr if the made the playoffs or not though..
In other news The Saints lose another starter for several games..
Jamar Nesbit of the New Orleans Saints has been suspended without pay for the team's next four games for violating the NFL Policy on Anabolic Steroids and Related Substances. Nesbit's suspension begins immediately. He is eligible to return to the Saints' active roster on Monday, October 20 following the team's October 19 game against the Carolina Panthers. "We are disappointed in the suspension of Jamar," said Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis. "We will support Jamar through this process and look forward to having him rejoin the team soon."

Kickers are by far the most interchangable position in the league. I would've thought you would understand how a kicker can cost you after putting up with Mare.
Hell sign Vanderjagt, I could do with a laugh.
I don't think they are easily interchangeable. A solid, dependable kicker is close to one of the most important positions on the team.

With the exception of a few clutch, dependable kickers in the league, they all seem pretty average. It just seems like you have those few awesome kickers and then it's a big drop to mediocre.

Yeah sorry that's what I meant, outside of a few very dependable guys they're all pretty much of a muchness.

Im with Monday Morning. Name one Elite team that didnt or doesnt have a solid kicker. They are one of the most underrated assets.

Few teams will have playoff success without a great kicker. If a team doesn't have a tried and tested kicker its bound to cause problems.

Plaxico Burress suspended for insubordination.
I've seen 2 different reports siteing jay glazer, one said "1 game" and one said "2 games"
my guess is 1 game, but it's coughlin who knows... apperently he skipped a team meeting monday and didn't answer his phone tuesday.

apperently it's 2 weeks, but one of the weeks is a bye, so he lost 2 weeks pay but only misses 1 game.

It's not like this is out of character for Coughlin though is it? I know he went all 'nice' last year but playing hooky is probably not the best idea if he's your boss.

How long is Favre planning on staying in New York? Part of me thinks we might be better right now if we'd stuck with Chad. I dunno, it's just not there. The offense hasn't shown any sign of 'clicking' at all yet :-/

3 games under a new system is hardly enough to pass judgment.

That's the point. We might only have Brett for like a year, so what's the point spending that just for him to get used to the offense? 3 games in and it's not looking good. Might already be too late.

I'm just saying I find all but about 5 or so kickers in the league to be "iffy". They can shine one week, and then suck the next.
And you'd have to define "solid" but I can tell you know that there have been and currently are teams in the league that are very good but don't have a clutch kicker.

I agree that there are few elite kickers, and only a few dependable. They just happen to be on the best teams (perhaps that is what makes them....the best)

I don't think a kicker has to be "elite" to also be considered dependable. Alls I'm saying is that if you have problems at the kicker position it proves to be a huge issue eventually. Always does, always will.

I don't think there is a single kicker in the NFL, that can't at least be described as "dependable".
They are all dependable, or else they wouldn't be there. It's just some are more dependable than others.
