lol @ Stuart Scott and Trent Dilfer in studio instead of at the MNF stadium for the 2nd week in a row. Blatantly obvious that ESPN was just trying to save some money because nobody watched the last 2 weeks anyway. Probably also explains the blimp image gaffes from last week.

lol, why do you constantly insist that Flacco is the gold standard? As if his stats and "accomplishments" are what every QB should aspire to achieve? 2 4th quarter comebacks? Tebow has 5 this season and 6 total in his 11 games, including one down by 15 with no timeouts and less than 5 minutes left. Comeback against Pittsburgh? Nope, haven't played them, but the Bears D is just as good and he came back from down 10 with no timeouts with less than 3 minutes

You think Flacco can pull either of those off with the Broncos offense? Or does he Flacco it up and throw a pick?

This is the guy that stated TD was the one that didn't belong on this list.

O.J. Simpson
Eric Dickerson
Barry Sanders
Terrell Davis
Jamal Lewis
Chris Johnson

Now I'd agree if he had said all 3 of the bottom don't belong on the list with 3 of the all time greats, but to pick TD over the other 2 just baffles me after all this time.

Droford

I already explained why he doesnt belong on that list and I think my explanation was sufficient.

And you think Flacco is a great, clutch QB. Your opinion is invalid

DaveBrawl

You called Jamal Lewis a fluke but said he belonged, but TD didn't because of injury...that's not a sufficient explanation at all.

TD After 61 games (and before his injury):
6,413yds 4.75ypc 56 TDs

CJ after 60 games:
5,473yds 4.8ypc 38 TDs

Jamal Lewis' career, 131 games:
10,607yds 4.2ypc 58 TDs

COME THE FUCK ON

Chris Johnson is looking like a pretty big fluke as well. He's not even going to get 1200 yards this year which is what he had his rookie year. If they hadn't paid him that huge contract Id bet he'd be out of the NFL in 2 years..

Theres only 1 coach left of a team that John Harbaugh has beaten in the playoffs now that both Sparano and Haley were fired today (to go along with Jeff Fisher) Dont think BB is gonna be fired anytime soon though... Sparano and Haley both lost their first playoff appearance. Here's looking at Gary Kubiak and the Texans for this year..hmm.

Evil Vito

Love fucking around with the playoff machine. Tried to come up with the most asinine playoffs imaginable and came up with the Eagles winning the East at 8-8, the Cardinals and Seahawks getting the 5th and 6th seeds respectively, and Tebow getting the number 1 seed.

So whoever wins the East will probably get the 4th seed unless NO falls off a bit. That means that NYG/DAL will face Atlanta probably round 1.

WHY WONT PHILLY GO THE FUCK AWAY

Scary part is, while it would still take a lot going their way...I'm not willing to totally dismiss the notion. Seems like they'll be mathematically eliminated this week if the Giants and Cowboys both win. But you just never know since the Skins nearly beat the Pats who are basically the same team as the Giants at this point (great offense, horrible secondary). Also, #CowboysInDecember

Evil Vito
12-13-2011, 11:16 AM
Meanwhile, if the Giants can handle their business and win their next two...a Dallas loss to Philly in Week 16 would clinch the division for the Giants and render Week 17 meaningless.

Dallas stays alive if they beat the Eagles under any scenario though, even if they manage to lose to the Bucs this week.

So the NFL decided to actually suspended James Harrison a game and he responded on Twitter with a "lol" tweet.

Also ended up being the 1st ever suspension based on a hit and not resulting in an ejection since the new hitting rules went into place. Suh ended up getting suspended due to getting ejected from a game and not the actual nut stomp which only added to his ban.

FearedSanctity
12-13-2011, 06:20 PM
I'd suspend him for longer on the grounds that he refuses to fucking learn. Consistently flagged and then bitches about it publicly, never admitting he was wrong. Always the victim. If you can't learn to play safe or at least own up to your mistakes I have no place for you in this league. That hit on McCoy was totally unacceptable. The entirety of his body was available to hit and you go high? Get the fuck out

Must see TV tonight: Tim Tebow miked up for Bears game

Just got a sneak preview of NFL Films “Sound Effects” piece on Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow, who was wired for sound during the game Sunday against the Chicago Bears.

What struck me foremost is how remarkably calm Tebow is during what we otherwise call “Tebow Time.” Crunch time. Do-or-die time. For instance, Bears running back Marion Barber III fumbled the ball away in overtime. Pandemonium broke out on the Broncos’ sideline. Running back Jeremiah Johnson, sitting next to Tebow on the bench, went nuts. Johnson jumped up like a firecracker went off under his seat. He started pounding repeatedly on Tebow’s shoulder pads, yelling, screaming.

Tebow’s reaction? At first he said nothing. He slowly got off the bench and as he started walking on the field, he started quietly singing a hymn. Not above a whisper, but here the world was turned upside down in an instant and Tebow was singing.

Incredible calm under pressure. As a leader, Tebow is clearly confident and is firm when delivering encouraging messages to various teammates, but he’s not quite as rah-rah as I thought he was. This is the NFL, after all.

Two cool moments: He’s sitting on the bench next to quarterback’s coach Adam Gase. “”Why do we have to do it this way?” Gase asks Tebow, referring to how the team is forced to continually rally from behind late.

Tebow smiles, put his right hand around Gase’s shoulder and says: “”It’s allright. We’ll figure it out, man.”

Another moment comes after Demaryius Thomas lets a long Tebow pass slip through his fingers. Thomas then, and later, said he short-armed the ball and he should have caught it for a touchdown. After the incompletion, a bummed Thomas is on the bench. Again Tebow is sitting to the left. Again, Tebow puts his arm around Thomas and says: “”You’re good. Hey, no big deal. It just makes it closer for a little bit longer. You’re about to catch the game-winner. And then you’ll be the hero of the game.”

Thomas did make two big catches in overtime to help set up Matt Prater’s game-winning field goal. Tebow’s sounds will be shown tonight on the NFL Network at 7:30 p.m. and midnight MST, and also on ”Inside the NFL” at 7 p.m. tonight on Showtime.

How many of those guys have had consistently good seasons that would qualify them as franchise running backs?

I feel like all of them have had maybe a few good years or been injured a lot, but nothing to qualify them as "franchise." Jones-Drew leads the league in rushing with what, 1220 yards and three weeks left? Nothing special.

steven jackson has been one of the best running backs in the league on one of the worst teams ever. Seriously, probably one of the best backs ever but he is on a horrible team. outside of the first year he played when he was mostly behind marshal faulk, he has put up over 1000 year seasons for the past six years and is on his way to do that again this season. To be on a team with a record it has had while hes been on it and the stats he has is incredible.

adrian peterson... i dont need to say anything about him

frank gore has had 1000 yard seasons 5 of the 7 years hes been in the league

forte, rice and mccoy have been around for about the same amount of time. 3-4 seasons? all the greats had to go through a couple seasons before they ended being thought of as the best. and since they have been in the league, they have had consistently good seasons...

when was there really any more elite rb carrying the ball in a season than there is this year? not to mention hindsight is 20-20 with a lot of these guys.

NFL renews television deals

NEW YORK -- With NFL games enjoying seemingly invincible ratings while most everything else on TV goes down, the league's traditional broadcast partners embraced a deal that sends their rights fees up.

CBS, Fox and NBC renewed their contracts for nine years through the 2022 season, the NFL announced Wednesday. The average fees from the three networks will increase by an average of 7 percent annually, a person familiar with the details said. That will take the total revenue from them from the current $1.93 billion per year to $3.1 billion by 2022.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the figures weren't made public.

The current agreements expire after the 2013 season.

"(The deals) will ensure the NFL will stay on free television for another 11 years, which I think is great for fans," commissioner Roger Goodell said at the owners' meetings outside Dallas. "It will continue to allow us to grow our audience. It's a tribute to the players and (union chief DeMaurice) Smith for extending our labor agreement for 10 years. I think that kind of stability gave us the ability to get these contract extensions."

Earlier this season, the NFL and ESPN reached an eight-year extension to keep "Monday Night Football" on the cable channel through the 2021 season, increasing the rights fee from $1.1 to 1.9 billion annually.

The new contracts also will allow NFL Network to expand the number of Thursday night games it airs beginning next year. The current schedule includes eight games during the second half of the season.

Goodell said the broadcast committee hadn't yet decided on whether to create a separate Thursday package to sell to an outside network.

NFL games account for 23 of the 25 most-watched programs among all television shows this fall and draw more than twice as many average viewers as broadcast prime-time shows. No wonder network executives piled on the superlatives Wednesday.

"This is incredibly powerful programming," said NBC Sports Group Chairman Mark Lazarus.

"It's as sure as you can get with anything today," said Fox Sports Co-President Eric Shanks.

"It's an unbelievably important product to associate ourselves with," said CBS Sports Chairman Sean McManus.

The three networks will each televise three Super Bowls during the length of the contracts, continuing the current rotation.

The nine-year terms are the longest for NFL television agreements with over-the-air networks. The previous longest were the eight-year deals with CBS, Fox and ABC from 1998-2005.

"With live broadcasts becoming more and more important, having the cream of the crop of live programing for the next 11 years is pretty incredible," Shanks said.

Locking in the NFL is the cornerstone for the rest of networks' economic planning, he said.

"I'm sure even today our ad sales guys' phones are ringing off the hook, even though the deal doesn't start for another two years," Shanks said.

CBS will continue to show the AFC package on Sunday afternoons as it has since 1998, while Fox still has the NFC package that it first acquired in 1994.

"Sunday Night Football" will remain on NBC, which picked it up in 2006. The network will add the annual Thanksgiving prime-time game starting in 2012, exchange one of its current wild- card matchups for a divisional playoff game, and create a Sunday morning pregame show in 2014 on NBC Sports Network (the future name of cable partner Versus).

It also gets three Super Bowls in nine years compared with two in eight seasons under the old deal.

The Thanksgiving night game had been on NFL Network.

"It's one of the most important advertising days of the year," Lazarus said. "We think this will elevate Thanksgiving not only for NBC but for the NFL."

Flexible scheduling will stay in effect to ensure quality late-season matchups on Sunday late afternoons and nights. It will be expanded in 2014 to allow some AFC games to air on Fox and NFC games on CBS, and for NBC to start switching out its prime-time matchups earlier in the season.

Shanks said the "cross-flexing" would allow more of the country to see certain appealing matchups.

The deals include "TV everywhere" rights for the networks to simulcast games online and on tablets -- though not mobile phones, for which Verizon has a separate agreement.

McManus acknowledged the NFL had become "increasingly more valuable."

"To know there's labor peace," he said. "To know the ratings have just been so consistent year after year after year, and ad growth has been so consistent year after year after year."

A lot of those guys aren't that special. You're naming a bunch of Clinton Portis fantasy football running backs on perennial 7-9 teams. They vacillate from season to season with ok years, but I don't think there would be too much of a difference in most of those teams if they had different guys in that spot.

I think a lot of that has to do with teams that base their entire offense on one player. Usually teams who have a guy with a monstrous amount of rushing yards are pretty average/poor teams in general. What was the last team that went to a Super Bowl based on their running back having a really good year? The Seattle Seahawks with Shaun Alexander is the last one that comes to mind, but they also had the best offensive line in the league and a very agile defense. The teams that have players who yield high rushing yards are teams like Jacksonville, St. Louis, Tennessee that have little else going for them offensively. Obviously you still have good teams that have solid running games like Houston and New Orleans and San Francisco, but the position, in particular when it comes to having a "franchise running back," appears to be less vital than it has been in past years.

How can Forte have been "relegated to a small role" when he had 997 yards before he got injured with 5 games left? And as much as I love McGahee, no he isn't Denver's franchise back. He's 30 and in his first year here, and to be honest probably won't last long enough to play out his 4 year deal, as injury prone as he's been this season. Yet he gets a basically a maybe while Fred Jackson gets a no? OK

I'd argue Rashard Mendenhall on the Steelers would be their franchise RB considering he's rushed over 1000+ yards the last 2 seasons and might have a chance this year even though he could end up with less carries than previous seasons.

BenJarvus Green-Ellis is correct even though he started out on pace to have a career-high, BB tends to abandon the run at the slightest problem the offense has regardless of the score.

Forte should be a yes considering how badly the Bears have declined once he went out along with Cutler. He already was close to 1000 yards before getting hurt and the previous 3 years managed to rush for 1000+ or very close to it.

Williams is barely the Panthers best RB and I dont think you can be a franchise RB and split carries with someone else almost 50/50 (Williams' 126 to Stewart's 115). Stewart is also been more productive as a receiver out of the backfield giving him more total yards from scrimmage..

As far as Forte goes, his number of carries declined in each season from 316 in his rookie season to 237 last year and 203 in 12 games this year. He was even used as a receiver each year less, from 63 catches in his rookie year to 51 last year and 52 this year.

FearedSanctity
12-15-2011, 06:36 PM
Matt Forte's carries have been in the top 10 2 of 3 seasons and EASILY would be about top 5 this season if he hadn't missed the last two games. His 316 in 2008 was good for 4th in the NFL, and his 237 in 2009 was 8th. Assuming he'd have gotten about 15 carries per game the last two weeks, his total would've been 233. One short of Frank Gore and Ray Rice, two of your franchise backs, and being tied for 5th most in the NFL.

As far as his receiving stats, do you actually research your bullshit or do you just look at things and form an opinion? Wait, don't answer that, we already know.

Bears' Top 3 Receivers Since 2008
2008: 1. Forte, 63 2. Olsen, 54 3. Hester, 51
2009: 1. Olsen, 60 2. Forte and Hester, 57
2010: 1. Forte and Knox, 51 3. Bennett, 46
2011: 1. Forte, 52 2. Knox, 36 3. Williams, 26

Looks like the definition of a franchise player to me

Ummm what?!

he accounted for over 50% of their offense by himself this season oh and by the way would have more yards from scrimmage than your beloved ray rice if he didnt get hurt a couple weeks back. in fact he was leading the league in rushing too at the time if im not mistaken.

They brought in marion barber because they wanted a solid backup and a change of pace back. He barely touched the ball the entire season until forte's injury.

Have you watched espn at all this season? everytime the bears are brought up, the analysts are screeming to pay the guy based on how well he plays. And hes been consistent like this for 3 seasons

I never said guys like Jackson, Rice, Gore, etc. were not franchise running backs, nor did I even mention who I thought was or wasn’t. Having a guy who has had a couple of 1,000 yard seasons, though, doesn’t automatically make him a player you can suddenly revolve your team around. You usually have 10-15 guys who have 1,000+ rushing yards in a season, and most of them fizzle out after a couple of years. My original post stated that from a rough statistical standpoint this has been a weaker year for running backs in general. I also said that in recent years more successful teams have been less dependent on having a one man 1,500/1,600 yard rusher in the backfield, and players who rack up those sorts of numbers are usually on more meager teams. I never commented on if those numbers reflected the quality of the player.

I don't even know if this has been that weak of a year for running backs to be honest with you. I just quickly looked at the top rushers and at the time the numbers looked a little low for Week 13 or 14 in terms of the leading rusher and attempts per game. Add in that you have a lot of big passers this year and it just seems like rushing has been lagging a bit.

Bears receiver Sam Hurd (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/4037/sam-hurd) currently has serious legal issues. He soon may have serious employment issues, too.
Apart from the question of whether the Bears will simply cut Hurd, who has made only eight catches for 109 yards in 12 games this season, the NFL likely will take action against Hurd, under the personal conduct policy.
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello tells PFT that the league is “looking into” the situation.
The league has applied different approaches to players facing prosecution for serious crimes. Former Falcons quarterback Mike Vick (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/2107/michael-vick) promptly was suspended after being indicted for dogfighting in July 2007. In contrast, the league took no action against former Broncos cornerback Perrish Cox, who was charged last year with raping a woman who had passed out in his apartment.
Some would say the league’s response depends on the profile of the player and/or the attention the allegations receive.
In Hurd’s case, the league likely will ask questions first and shoot later, especially in light of the report that Hurd’s customers included a double-digit number of NFL players. The league could give Hurd a chance to come clean regarding his customers before making any decisions about Hurd’s status pending trial.
Regardless, any players who were buying cocaine or marijuana from Hurd need to be nervous, because there’s a pretty good chance the league will find out about it — and then do something about it.

Not sure what the Browns are doing with McCoy as he got sent home for the 4th time this week from practice with the issue being related to his concussion.

They keep rushing him back out to practice and every time he needs to be sent back home to recover.

Not sure if they waited until the 4th time or announced it earlier but took them awhile to state McCoy won't be playing this week against Arizona.

Did the Packers untying Ndamukong Suh’s shoes set him off?

http://l.yimg.com/a/p/sp/editorial_image/5e/5e056b0874714ae3eaab47e17a248c52/did_the_packers_untying_ndamukong_suhs_shoes_set_him_off.jpg

Was Ndamukong Suh's Thanksgiving outburst caused by a juvenile prank ordered by a Green Bay Packers coach? According to former Packers offensive lineman Matt Brock, that's exactly what happened.

Brock was being interviewed on KXTG in Portland, Ore., when he floated the theory that his former teammate, current offensive line coach James Campen, may have told Evan Dietrich-Smith to untie Ndamukong Suh's shoes during the game as a way of getting under the skin of the volatile Detroit Lions star.

This is the sort of tale that's best served straight from the horse's mouth, so here's a transcript of Brock's interview, courtesy MLive.com:

The center, or one of his guards, he's had like one or two starts in his career and he's got to play against Suh. So he's pretty puckered, right? So, he talking to James, the offensive line coach, going, "What do I do? What do I do?"

James is just in his mind going, "This guy is going to get killed. I got to take his mind off it, give him something else to do." So he says, "Ok, every time you're in a pile, I want you to focus on something. I want you to untie his shoes."

He goes, "What?"

"Anytime you can, just reach in, he's got floppy shoe laces, he doesn't spat or anything, just untie his shoes. It will irritate him."

He untied his shoes three times in the game. That's why he stomped him. That's why he banged his head on the ground and he stomped him. When (Suh) went to the sideline it looked like he was telling the coach, "I didn't do anything" and he put his foot up like, "I didn't stomp him. I didn't do anything." He was actually going, "The damn guy keeps untying my shoes."

That's a heck of a tale and it's just plausible enough to be true. Suh is so temperamental that you can see him getting aggravated by some scrub messing with his shoes. It's something that's easily checked, I suppose. All you'd have to do is go back and look at the game tape to see if Suh was bending over in between plays to tie his shoes.

Even if it's not true, I'd imagine Oakland Raiders coaches will be whispering to their offensive linemen about how to antagonize Suh during this Sunday's game. Sure, they could suggest they untie his shoes in a pile, but where's the originality in that? Come up with a new way to annoy him. Try tickling his feet or blowing gently in his ear or singing that Mariah Carey Christmas song at full volume all game. Dude will snap in no time.

Doesn't the NFL usually play Saturday games during the playoffs and once every few years near the end of the regular season?

Usually depends on when Christmas and New Years fall on for a certain year.

Doubt the NFL will ever play on a Saturday early in the season unless the Anti-trust laws get changed or college football moves to a different day (won't happen due to tradition).

FearedSanctity
12-17-2011, 10:52 PM
Pretty sure they start on Saturdays in December while the majority of college teams are off until the bowl games. And yeah, anti-trust keeps them from playing Fridays and Saturdays otherwise. No way the NFL expands outside it's current days. The advantage teams get the next week after playing on a Thursday is bad enough

Droford
12-17-2011, 11:23 PM
there was a college bowl game no one cared about tonight too..the NFL could get away with doing games every night if they wanted to. How much different is a Tuesday Night game from Monday? Wednesday would probably be the worst/hardest..

FearedSanctity
12-17-2011, 11:29 PM
Because the NFL is more about game plan and strategy than leagues like the NBA and MLB, where in game strategy and adjustments are nothing. You take away the preparation and the games will go to shit. Playing every day is retarded. It'd be almost impossible to avoid situations where Team A gets destroyed by Team B because A played 2 days ago while B had almost a full week to prepare. The NFL manages it just fine now (you play Monday, you don't play Thursday) but a full 7 day schedule is almost impossible to balance fairly. It'll never happen

OssMan
12-18-2011, 09:22 AM

 Patriots defense actually managed to stop Tebow and the Broncos "Tebow Time."

Its like they played a reverse Tebow by sucking the 1st Q and then being good the last 3 quarters.

:D AFC East officially locked up.

I'd say the Broncos defended themselves better than Patriots. 2 of the 3 fumbles were just stupid. And the 13 points given up by those fumbles turned out to be the decider. Still a good job by the Pats adjusting though

"Punt it to him, see what happens"

I said to the punter of the Cleveland Browns forewarningly. They've managed to avoid Patrick Peterson all game but I had a feeling they would somehow manage to not punt it out of bounds this time. Actually, it was to the television as there was no one around me at the time. Let's face it, there's never anyone around me at the time. There never will be.

And sure enough, he makes a hell of return and Skelton throws it to nowhere in particular and Fitzgerald happens to be nearby.

I've never seen a QB miss so badly. It's Larry Fitzgerald. You can throw it 10 feet in his vicinity (behind him, above him, or in front of him) and he'll be able to make the catch. Skelton somehow manages to throw it 11 feet. He will miss Fitz more times than he hits him. It's embarrassing.

Didn't fancy the Eagles game at all but didn't expect a blow out like that. It's just like last year, the game after Leonhard got injured was the 45-3 loss to the Patriots. The good thing about that though (after a further miserable home loss to the Dolphins) was that they turned it around and beat Pittsburgh against all odds on the road in a must win, and of course everyone remembers the divisional game. I'm not sure if this year's team has that same character though. They've shown glimpses of brilliance but it's been a very stop-start season, and they haven't really beaten any notable teams. And they have to turn it around fast this time around. Last year they finished 2-3 after the Leonhard injury, can't afford any more losses really. Could sneak in as a 9-7 but it's very dicey...

Next week couldn't be much bigger. Jets and Giants meet for the first time in four years, on Christmas Eve of all times, in a must win for both, who only seem to turn up when their backs are against the wall. Will be fascinating, can't wait. Crazy thing is, if I've worked it out right, if the Jets beat the Giants, the Eagles win out and the Giants beat the Cowboys in 2 weeks (all very possible scenarios), then the Eagles win the division. Crazy stuff.

Emperor Smeat
12-19-2011, 12:26 PM
Yeah Brady was talking a lot about the game and Tebow for the entire previous week leading up to the game.

Also wanted some revenge for the last time he went to Denver and lost to Josh McDaniels first big game as Denver's coach and his 1-6 career record against them.

It also helped that Houston lost earlier so a victory would ensure at least the #2 seed in the AFC (Ravens didn't play yet and Pitt plays on Monday).

Don't understand why everyone is so excited the Patriots beat Denver. They seem to forget they were a 1-4 team with very obvious flaws early this season and New England is probably the 3rd best team in the AFC.

Supreme Olajuwon

Oh right, because Broncos fans are totally keeping things in perspective. It's everyone else that's overreacting.

Negro, please.

DaveBrawl
12-19-2011, 06:52 PM
No, there are plenty of Broncos fans that are annoying and I understand that, although most of them tend to be Broncos fans via Tebow. However there is a big difference, to me at least, of Denver fans acting like the Broncos did something if they beat a team like San Diego or the Jets as opposed to Patriots fans acting like the Pats shook up the world by beating Denver.

I expect a recreation of the Super Bowl shuffle if they beat Miami this week since they've won a few games as of late.

But it's not even the fans that bother me really, I expect fans to be stupid when it comes to their team. It's the "experts" at places like ESPN or Yahoo or Fox Sports that continue to harp on it that make me shake my head at their ignorance. I mean I know how they are and have been for years. Most of us have pointed this out time after time, but I would at least like to expect them to try to have a little objectivity in their articles. Like how some of them are even trying to start a story on getting rid of Tebow after they lost, or Mike Silver's typical salavating over anything unfortunate happening to the Broncos.
