gonna be laughing right back at all the Steelers fans who were laughing today at the Ravens choking last night.

You can't, really. We got embarrassed by the Chargers. No reason we should have lost that game. Though it does continue the pattern of losing to awful teams while beating good ones.

Orton finally has his chance to get the Broncos in the playoffs

I can laugh all I want. The Steelers had the same chance the Ravens had (to lock up the #1 seed/bye/home field) and they choked even harder than the Ravens did. I actually could see them losing to the Rams if they play like they did on monday.

FearedSanctity
12-21-2011, 06:39 AM
Yes, because losing to the #2 team in the NFC while your star QB is hobbled is exactly the same thing as losing to the #10 team in the AFC that has been decimated by injuries. It's not choking when a #2 seed loses to it's fellow #2 seed, however a top 5 team losing to one in the bottom half of the league? Yeah, that's a fucking choke

Droford
12-21-2011, 06:54 AM
The Chargers are 21-1 in december games over the last 5 years and they've won 3 straight...they wouldnt have been "a bottom half team" if it hadn't been for injuries. And they still have a shot to make the playoffs, and with the offense they have, if they manage to get in, they will probably beat the snot out of the Steelers just the same as they did the Ravens. And if that happens, I am aware it would be likely that the Ravens would play them in the playoffs, but it would be in Baltimore.

The 49ers haven't played a meaningful game to them in December in 10 years and they've looked like crap over the last month outside of the shutout vs St Louis. And if Worthlessberger is hurt is the card Steelers fans are playing, then they have bigger problems because they won't win crap with Charlie Batch at QB.

FearedSanctity
12-21-2011, 07:02 AM
You're right, wouldn't have been. But they are, so what could've or should've been means nothing. Their shot at the playoffs is as real as the Eagles' shot, it's possible, but come the fuck on. Their shot is the Wildcard, because even if Denver, Oakland and SD all finish 8-8, Denver owns the tiebreaker. Basically their "hopes" require Oakland, New York, Kansas City, Tennessee and Cincinnati to ALL lose out. Not gonna happen

wtf does meaningful games in December have to do with how SF played Monday? SF and PIT were playing for the exact same shit, a top seed and a first round bye. Motivation for either side isn't a question. And just because they've played like "crap" recently doesn't make them a bad team. By that definition GB shitting the bed against KC for one week makes them a bad team

SlickyTrickyDamon
12-21-2011, 08:29 AM
Pittsburgh was playing for Home Field Advantage throughout the playoffs if the standings stayed the way they were. So, they we're actually playing for more than SF but just fucked up.

Truth is, a whole lot of things went our way Monday night but it isn't exactly like the Steelers were handicapped beyond repair. Ben still threw for over 300 yards, despite not feeling ready to compete. Harrison didn't play the game but neither did our best linebacker Patrick Willis.

I will say though, the power outages probably benefited us more than they did Pittsburgh because Ben had to wait long periods of time after he had just gotten his legs all warmed up to compete. Waiting that long to play again can't be good when you're in the cold and you have an injury that you need to keep warmed up so it doesn't tighten up. I felt kinda of bad for Ben at the end of the game. He threw for over 300 yards whilst injured and had almost nothing to show for it,

Ravens have the 2nd highest Strength of Victory % (combined winning % of teams beaten) in the NFL at .506 and I will say they might as well be #1 since the Rams and their 2 wins are #1 at .536. Buffalo and Indianapolis are the only other teams above .500. And yes, obviously had they beaten the Jaguars the SOV would be lower (if they beat the chargers/titans/seahawks, they're all .500 right now so it wouldn't affect it)

Pittsburgh is .450, New England is .448, Denver is .446, NY Jets are .402 and Houston is .400.

over in the NFC, SF is .448, Green Bay is .440, New Orleans is .422, Dallas is .393, Detroit is .389 and Atlanta is .365

The Ravens have beaten 1/3 of the playoff field if it were set today already this season (SF/NYJ/Houston/Pittsburgh twice). The Packers have beaten 4 teams (Denver/New Orleans/Atlanta/Detroit twice) as well.

Its actually used as a tiebreaker so it isn't totally irrelevant, and it was why the Ravens would have been the #1 seed over the Patriots had they finished with identitcal records..and is why Im holding out hope that the Pats might slip up vs a halfway decent Dolphins team this week.

No way the Ravens should have lost to the Seahawks there. Seahawks are very one dimensional team that relies much too heavily on the run. The Ravens have an incredible defense and stopping them should not have been a problem. Marshawn Lynch went over 100 yards in that game and he was playing injured.

Dolphins play at New England this week and Miami always struggles a lot up north in the winter. Been like that even during the Marino years.

Brady's bad record with Miami usually involves the games being in Miami or Miami lucking out and playing in New England when its warm.

Buffalo probably gives a tougher fight mostly for pride reasons and to see if they can prevent New England starting another 14+ win streak against them.

Question: What do Packers fans do after the team loses a perfect season?

Child Abuse! (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/Woman-accused-of-choking-her-daughter-because-th?urn=nfl-wp14394)

According to the criminal complaint, the 36-year-old woman had been drinking and, upon conclusion of the Packers' loss, grabbed her 11-year-old daughter by the neck and choked her hard enough that she couldn't breathe. The woman's husband said she also broke a lamp, threw her dinner on the floor and tried to punch him in the face.

Football is serious business in Green Bay.

nothing about how the Ravens beat them? Disapointing.

I feel pretty condident in saying the Ravens can beat any of the other teams in the AFC and the only team that really scares me right now in the NFC is the Saints. I think the Ravens could stop the Packers, but I have a hard time seeing them being able to stop the Saints. All the other teams in the NFC are garbage or the Ravens have already beaten once (49ers).

In the NFL the difference between being a 6 win team and an 11 win team can be so minuscule it's just really retarded to do things like "power rankings" or compare losses from months earlier. Last year in like week 13 or 14 the Patriots penetrated the Jets bunghole repeatedly on Monday Night football. It was an embarrassment. Clearly the Patriots were a far superior team that night. And then the Jets beat them in the playoffs. I could find dozens more similar examples.

Ja the Ravens have been one of the better AFC teams in recent history based on continous playoff appearances and a decent amount of playoff wins. Anyone who ends up being "shocked" if the Ravens make/win the Superbowl was also probably "shocked" at whatever the latest political scandal was. And anyone who is "certain" the Ravens are going to fuck shit up in January was also probably "certain" that some nigger would never be president

The Packers have clearly demonstrated they are the team to beat this year and they just lost to Cromeo's Chiefs. Shit happens. Jesus.

Nervous Ferret

That being said can't wait for the Jets to back into the 6 seed (again), luck out with a winnable wild card round game (again) presumably at Houston, then play the game of their season at New England (again) only to fall just short of the SuperBowl (again). Unless the Ravens also make it to the conference championship then Baltimore has no shot because Flacco is a choooookeeeee lolollololoolollolololololololoololoolololooloolololololo

Bills final home game this season against the Broncos ended up getting the blackout restrictions so not even Tebow was enough to get a sell out in Buffalo nor can the game be watched on tv in Buffalo.

James Harrison thinks if he got punished for the hit on McCoy then the Browns deserve a punishment as well for their handling of him since the hit. His reasoning was the Browns shouldn't have put him back in the game if he was hurt so they need a punishment. He also refused to change his hitting style by saying he has been "lowering his body" the entire season for hits.

Need some fantasy advice for the championship, friends.

Boldin looks to be out this week. My backup WRs are Eric Decker (who has done absolutely nothing for me) and Robert Meachem (who is too inconsistent to actually start).

Demaryius Thomas is available, which wouldn't be bad I guess but it depends how much DEN decides to throw. Also Jabar Gaffney has a pretty good matchup. Can't believe I'm putting so much into this (never really into fantasy before).

I think I've narrowed it down, since a lot of other WR options may not play, but I'm not sure. If you had to choose between those two, who would it be?

FearedSanctity
12-22-2011, 09:14 PM
Weather for Denver @ Buffalo is supposed to be pretty shit, but Denver is passing more. Could seriously go either way. Denver doesn't really have a #1 WR, more like 1 and 1a. May be best to just avoid Denver WRs totally, but if you're gonna go with one between DT and ED Demaryius is probably best

They could be out of the race for a bye and a lock on home field advantage if both the Patriots and Ravens/Steelers win. Denver would also be 1 game behind for the Texans #3 seed if they win against the Bills.

 Minnesota now holds the #1 draft pick because of Indy's wins being stronger than Minny's.

• Strength of schedule for the previous season is the first tie-breaker for teams with the same winning percentage. The team with the lowest strength of schedule percentage wins the tiebreaker and picks ahead of all other teams with the same record.

• Divisional and conference records are the next step in the tie-breaking procedure.

• As a last resort, a coin toss is used to determine the order of selection for teams with the same winning percentage.

So, the team who had an EASIER schedule gets the first pick?

Brees is an excellent quarterback, but breaking the passing record in 2011 when quarterbacks can't even be touched means nothing.

Brees has been slowly going after the record for the past few years so its not that surprising he might actually break it this season.

Probably could have broken it last year if it wasn't for the large amount of INTs (22) he threw which killed a bunch of quality Saints drives. I think only Eli Manning had more INTs last year.

The main reason why a lot of quarterbacks had huge passing numbers was due to the lack of training camps hurting defenses more this year than offenses. Newton himself had like 800+ yards in the first 2 games and then settled down as the season went on.

Supreme Olajuwon
12-23-2011, 02:55 PM
Marino's record is more impressive, no doubt. But to say that breaking the record means nothing is stupid.

Blakeamus
12-23-2011, 03:09 PM
Well that is what they were discussing the other day and I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I always thought ESPN showed plenty of love towards Drew Brees. But these were coming from the same people that was on the TEBOW bandwagon cock until The Pats/Brady beat them. In Marino's era, it was impressive what he did, but why even considered an asterick to the record because of the difference in eras? If that is the case than, why have records to begin with?

Evil Vito
12-23-2011, 03:51 PM
Marking it with an asterik makes no sense, it's not Brees' fault he plays in a completely different NFL than Marino did. I just don't see why the record would be viewed as important at this point. Hardly seems worth it to throw 50 yard bombs down the field when the game is already out of reach just to break it.

Good move considering Steelers most likely lost out on the valuable 1st round bye spot and might as well start Big Ben's recovery rest now before the playoffs start.

Baltimore could still have an epic goof up against the Browns but the Bengals game will decide the division considering the Bengals probably will need to win to get the final playoff spot so they won't be as much of a pushover like the first match.

Help me out guys. I've got to decide who to play. It's a normal 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 RB/WR setup and it's a PPR league.

My options are...

WR: AJ Green, Marques Colston, Dez Bryant and Laurent Robinson.

RB: Maurice Jones-Drew, Rashard Menenhall, Kevin Smith, Kahlil Bell

I'm set with Green and Colston as my WRs. Can't bench Jones-Drew. Mendenhall is playing at home against St. Louis which feels like a must play especially with Batch starting. Bell is supposed to be like a mini Forte and kinda played like it last week and should catch a decent amount of passes @ Green Bay. Smith in a dome has been amazing when he's been helathy. You know, we've had some pretty bad teams in the past sell a decent amount of tickets. Last season in particular, though, was a black eye on the franchise. There was so much hype with Ochocinco, T.O., etc. and they fell flat on their faces and pretty much imploded in the off season, it seemed. Our fucking quarterback said he wasn't even going to show up. The fans are fed up with paying way too much for a historically shitty football team.

Keep an eye on your halftime highlights if you're not watching the Cardinals/Bengals. I'm still marking out and that was like two drives ago.

You'll definitely see it on Sportscenter. Jerome Simspon literally somersaulted through the air from flat feet OVER a defender and landed in the endzone, pretty much sticking the landing and holding onto the ball.
No Sports Center in Peru so thanks, le shizzle

http://espn.go.com/dallas/nfl/story/_/id/7386058/sources-dallas-cowboys-rest-key-starters-new-york-giants-win

If the New York Giants beat the New York Jets on Saturday, the Dallas Cowboys would not be able to win the NFC East, and sources told ESPN the team will consider holding out several injured starters, including DeMarcus Ware.

The other players who could be sidelined are running back Felix Jones and defensive tackle Jay Ratliff, who were both limited in practice throughout the week and listed as questionable, as well as cornerback Mike Jenkins and wide receiver Laurent Robinson.

If the Giants lose to the Jets, the Cowboys can win the division with a victory over the Eagles. But if the Giants win, the Cowboys can accomplish almost nothing Saturday and might prefer to do what they can to get Ware, Jones and Ratliff healthy for what would be a winner-take-all season finale for the Cowboys at the Giants.

Looks like Minnesota will be out of the race for the #1 spot considering how badly of a stinker the Redskins pulled in the 2nd half today.

So now its between St Louis and Indy for the #1 pick and potentially Luck.

Is Sanchez always this bad?
Yes, especially considering he was meant to be the future of the franchise and be better than Brady with the Sanchise nickname. There has been rumors going ever since the end of last season that they might get rid of him or find a new "future" QB although its been more of the fans wanting him gone than the team actually saying it.

Haven't checked the stats but I don't think he never actually improved enough and most of the time the defense managed to hide his weakness like Denver does with Tebow this year.

Even if St Louis gets it, they aren't taking luck, they have too much invested in Bradford.
