2 years in a row a Super Bowl team has gone on the road in the wild card round against a team without a winning record and gotten beat with a cornerback being stiff armed by the game's MVP on his way to the deciding touchdown.

2006 season was the last time all 3/4 seeds advanced out of the Wild Card games.
In the following round, the Ravens choked at home vs the Colts as the #2 and the 4 seed (Pats) went on the road and beat the #1 seed Chargers. In the NFC, the 1/2 seeds (Chicago/New Orleans) won 27-24.

FearedSanctity
01-08-2012, 09:53 PM
No one said it's right, that's just how it is. Unless your name is bigger than the QBs the QB is getting all the credit while you gain some name recognition. Kolb and Stafford don't get credit for their throws to Fitzgerald and Johnson
#1-norm-fan
01-08-2012, 09:54 PM
And there's a difference between an established QB doing it and Tebow. For fuck's sake, there was talk of Brady Quinn coming in IN A PLAYOFF GAME if Tebow struggled. You generally don't hear talk going into a playoff game of a star QB being potentially benched if they struggle.
If a receiver has the kind of playoff game Thomas had, yes I would expect him to get SOME recognition. I honestly have heard NOTHING about anyone but Tebow. lol
Triple Naitch
01-08-2012, 09:59 PM
Quinn took two snaps in practice. If you read beyond what the Tebow haters reported you would have known that.
Thomas did have a great game. He deserves a lot of credit. The defensive line deserves a lot of credit too. There, happy?
SlickyTrickyDamon
01-08-2012, 10:00 PM
Coach Fox was like "Yeah Brady Quinn gets snaps in practice every week."
FearedSanctity
01-08-2012, 10:00 PM
I know what you're saying, but that's just how it is. Not saying DT shouldn't get credit, because he obviously should. But the credit is going to go to someone and that's almost always the QB, especially one with the fame of Tebow. Of course it works both ways with credit and blame. Tebow caught all kinds of shit from the first KC game when he went 2/8. He caught a shitload of criticism despite the fact that 5 of his 6 incomplete passes were flat out dropped by the receiver. Fair? Hell no, but it's to be expected
#1-norm-fan
01-08-2012, 10:02 PM
Triple Naitch's does not equal the epitome of recognition in the NFL.
And Quinn was shown warming up on the sideline after the first quarter. If you were watching the game, you would have known that.
FearedSanctity
01-08-2012, 10:02 PM
And Quinn does get snaps every week, it'd be stupid for the backup not to. You know a hype story like that is BS when the only people reporting it are attention seekers like Jay Glazer while EVERY PERSON in the Denver media, including well known Tebow hater Mark Kiszla, deny the shit out of it

I'm not saying they even prepared for Quinn at all during the week. But there was at least talk of it and it wasn't far-fetched. I don't remember any other QB going into a playoff game with even the thought that if he struggles he will be benched. Get off the man's jock. lol

Speaking as what I think I am, A Reasonable Steelers Fan. (Yes we do exist) I don't think it's a rebuiliding plan but I think we do need to get younger in some areas such as Cornerback and Linebacker on Defense. We were that way with Receivers for a few years but got an influx of young talent there and that receiving core kept us in the game really late.
I think they can leave the opportunity opened for a Championship if they get younger in a few areas. If they don't adjust, in my opinion it's gonna be tough.

My biggest fear playing Pitt was the speed of their WRs. Really feel as though they didn't take advantage of Goodman's inability to cover deep as well as Denver's safeties being a combo of Carter (a rookie) and either Bruton (a special teamer at best most of his career) and Bush (practice squad type). Also terrible when a healthy chunk of your passes are in Bailey's general area. He may not be the best anymore, but he's still arguably top 5. Denver hasn't been able to cover a TE all season and constantly get killed on quick slants. Really surprised Pittsburgh didn't take advantage of some of these glaring weaknesses

Feeling (probably over) optimistic about the Broncos chances to go all the way. Everyone sees the final score of the last time they played NE and shits all over their chances without actually remembering how that game went. They absolutely DOMINATED NE on the ground and moved the ball with ease, and they never even took advantage of the Patriots 31st ranked pass D. But those 3 fumbles in the 2nd just killed them. It was also the first game without Dawkins as well as the first with Von being limited by his cast for Denver's defense and Brady just killed them.
If Denver calls plays like yesterday and can do even half as well as they did on the ground the last time scoring points will be no issue. My biggest worry is the defense, can't afford to just keep trading scores with the Patriots all day. But they've learned to play without Dawk the last 2 games and Bruton has really stepped up in his place and Von seems to be getting the hang of playing with that cast as well. But Brady is still Brady.
Don't expect Denver to win but I'm optimistic of their chances. But if they can pull off the upset again I'm not sure there's any stopping them. Texans matchup really well against Baltimore IMO and I think there's a good chance they leave with a win. A Texans/Broncos game could really go either way but the biggest key could be the massive wave of momentum Denver would be riding into that game.
But then again they could just get dominated by Brady and the Patriots and none of this will matter. Who knows?

I'm fairly nervous for the 9er/Saints but I do think that we can do it if we can create long scoring drives, limit the time Brees has with the football, and make a couple big defensive plays late in the game. The Saints like a really quick pace and the Niners are their best when the pace of the game is very slow and plotting so they can beat people up and impose their will along the way.
Looks like there will be some pretty long grass to play on and the mud will be flowing pretty heavy halfway into the game also, so that will help out a bunch, especially against a dome team like the Saints.

Want SF to win, but I think NO just may be too much. SF has a damn good defense, but I just don't know if the offense will be able to go score for score all day if the need be. Game will obv be about SF needing to slow down Brees enough for them to keep up, but even a slowed down Saints offense is a lot to handle. Weather could be an issue, but I think it's typically something people put too much stock in when talking about playing dome teams

Brady Quinn needs to come in and throw one pass to keep the streak of Notre Dame QBs throwing a pass in the NFL alive..its like 60+ years or something but no one from NotreDame has thrown a pass so far and Quinn is the last hope..
Very rarely do you get a story fit for Notre Dame boosters and haters. Here is one courtesy of the Wall Street Journal (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204553904577102850815226524.html?mod=WSJ_LifeStyle_Sports_RightTopCarousel_1).Report er Darren Everson points out that the last time a Notre Dame player (there is an asterisk) didn't throw an NFL pass was 1944.
Jimmy Clausen and Brady Quinn, Irish fans turn their lonely eyes to you.
Of course Clausen and Quinn sit behind two of the hottest young quarterbacks -- Cam Newton and Tim Tebow -- in the NFL.
Writes Everson:After Notre Dame, the next-longest streak belongs to Oregon, surprisingly. The Ducks—who were college-football roadkill for the most part until the 1990s—have a 63-year run going, due largely to three longtime quarterbacks who played in different eras: Norm Van Brocklin (1949-60), Dan Fouts (1973-87) and Chris Miller (1987-95, 1999).
Don't count the Irish out, though. Their streak has been on life support before and pulled through. In 2004, 2005 and 2006, no Notre Dame quarterback threw a pass, but running backs (including Jerome Bettis), punters (Hunter Smith) and receivers who used to play quarterback (Arnaz Battle, Carlyle Holiday) pitched in.

The Ravens show up for games at M&T. 15-1 last 16 games at home. Im not worried about them not showing up for the Texans again on Sunday.
Under Harbaugh they are 27-5 at home. Last year they lost one game at home to the Steelers (13-10) and they even beat the Saints and the almighty Drew Brees. In 09 they lost 2 games at home to the Colts (17-15) and Bengals (17-14). In 2008 they lost 2 games at home (Titans 13-10 and Steelers 13-9) and that year they went back and beat the #1 seed Titans in Tennessee (13-10) in the playoffs. They have the best record at home since 2000 in the NFL (72-23). There was a reason why it was so important to get a playoff home game (although they did lose the last two home playoff games, 15-6 to the Colts in the 06 Season and 20-7 to the Titans in 03 season).

Id like to point out that the two home games, they made Manning look very average, including not scoring a TD in that 15-6 playoff game which was probably the best "worst" game Ive seen them play. I am aware they got steamrolled in Indy a couple years ago and up until they beat them this year hadn't won a game vs Indy in forever.
The next time the Ravens play the Colts, Luck will probably be QB so I doubt there will be much more of that. Im not sold on him being anywhere near as good as Manning.
Thats why it'll be all the more satisfying to have the Ravens win the Super Bowl in Indianapolis.

If there was one game through wild-card weekend that had me curious from an officiating angle, it was the New Orleans Saints (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/nor/)' 45-28 win over the Detroit Lions (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/det/). All four playoff games last weekend had at least one ref-based howler, but the inadvertent whistle (http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/officiating-gaffe-hurts-both-lions-saints-nfc-wild-034656388.html) that cost the Lions a touchdown was very uncharacteristic of the crews run by Tony Corrente, who I've long regarded as one of the best in the business. As it turns out, Corrente has had a lot more on his mind.
He's fighting a battle with cancer of the tongue and throat, and had it not been for a collision in another game he called earlier in the season, he might not have known until it was too late. In the season opener between the Baltimore Ravens (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/bal/) and Pittsburgh Steelers (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/pit/), Corrente tried to break up a fight between two members of each team.
He was pushed hard out of the "action" and fell on his back, hitting his head. He took Motrin for the pain after the game, and as Corrente told Peter King of Sports Illustrated (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/peter_king/01/08/wild.card.round/index.html#ixzz1j4ukUC4h), that's when things got complicated. At home, he noticed he was coughing up blood, and still was the next day. More Motrin. The next week, after doing the Kansas City-Detroit game, Corrente was still taking Motrin, and noticed when he woke up Monday after the game there was blood on his pillow where his mouth had been. His doctor in California, Susan Sleep, set him up with an ear, nose and throat specialist, who snaked a camera through his nose to look at everything.
The camera spied a mass at the base of his tongue, where the tongue led into the throat, extending down the throat slightly. The mass was about the size of a full male thumb.
"What is that?'' Corrente asked the doctor.
"Sir, that is cancer,'' said the doctor, whose specialty was apparently not bedside manner.
"Excuse me,'' Corrente said. "I've got WHAT?''
Corrente started his first round of chemotherapy in October, and he somehow missed just three games through the regular season. Through the end of the regular season, Corrente started telling people what he was going through, and that's when the support poured in.
"Before [the Week 17 Ravens-Bengals] game, I went to coach [John] Harbaugh of the Ravens, and told him I'd like to talk to a couple of his players if it wouldn't be too much of a bother before the game," Corrente told King. "I told him the story, and he was in disbelief. So they brought the two players who were in the scuffle with the Steelers that first week, Michael Oher (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/9287/) and Matt Birk (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/4402/), out to talk to me. I told them, 'I just wanted to tell you that you actually may have saved my life.'
That should definitely be a part of "The Blind Side 2"

Also, strong sentiment on Ravens boards to bring back Hue Jackson as an Offensive Coordinator to get rid of Cam Cameron. Jackson was the Ravens QB coach in 08/09 and worked with Flacco early in his career.

 Raiders
They finally get a coach who gets the players motivated enough to almost win the division and end up firing him. I wouldn't be surprised if he would have gotten fired even if the Raiders went to the playoffs with how bad management is over there.

Per TMZ
Before there was Tebow 3:16 in the NFL ... there was Austin 3:16 in the WWE ... and now the wrestling legend says he's willing to surrender his iconic numbers to the NFL star, pending one GIANT condition.
TMZ spoke with "Stone Cold" Steve Austin (https://twitter.com/#%21/steveaustinbsr)-- who tells us he watched Tebow's Mile High Miracle this weekend and was blown away when he learned Tim threw for exactly 316 yards in the playoff victory.
FYI -- the numbers have a special meaning with Stone Cold, who created the famous faux bible verse back in the '90s to humiliate his enemies -- "Austin 3:16 says I just whooped your ass!!!"
Now, Austin tells us, "Austin 3:16 still rules" ... but adds, "If Tebow can throw for 316 yards again this weekend then hell, he can have the numbers and I'll have no problem with it."
Austin continues, "A guy named John was using it before me ... so if Tebow can do it again, more power to him!"
"I wish him all the luck in the world," Austin says ... adding, "I'm not a Denver fan but Tim's a great role model for kids."I am sorry for dragging wrestling in here

Apparently the Jags have a new coach.
Per Yahoo Sports:
The Jacksonville Jaguars have hired Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey as their new head coach, a move the team hopes will help improve the worst offense in the NFL.
The Florida Times-Union newspaper first reported the hire on Tuesday. The team plans to introduce Mularkey at a news conference Wednesday.
Mularkey’s Falcons managed only two points in a playoff loss to the New York Giants on Sunday. Nonetheless, his long relationship with Jaguars general manager Gene Smith made him a front-runner from the beginning of the search.
The Jaguars fired coach Jack Del Rio in November after the team started the season 3-8. Del Rio had a 69-73 record in nine seasons at Jacksonville.
The Jaguars finished the season 2-3 under interim coach Mel Tucker.

The Falcons' message board could not be happier right now. No idea what state this puts ATL in for next year, especially with a good deal of the big players hitting free agency, but I am optimistic of changes in coaching style.
Provided who we get is worthwhile :-\

Yeah I knew he was the second coach, just didn't seem like Coughlin had been gone for 9 years for some reason.

Colts hire Ryan Grigson, former executive of player personnel for the Eagles, as their new GM with the goal of a complete overhaul needed for the team.
Sanchez has lost the support of the Jets locker room as more players have publicly "trashed" him to the media. The perception right now is those disgruntled players would rather have Peyton Manning (if made available as a free agent) or another veteran as their QB next season than Sanchez.
