That is a violation of your normal sports rules. The Tigers have been in World Series in recent years.

A few news and notes before we add a couple pages on during tonight's Game 5's. From mlbtraderumors.com

Shohei Otani is looking like the next big thing to come out of Japan this offseason. He's 18-years old, 6'4", 190 lbs. pitcher whose fastball can touch 99-100 MPH, and is fresh out of high school. As of now, all the NPB teams want him, and the Red Sox, Rangers, and Dodgers have sent reps over to Japan to court him into coming over stateside. The O's have interest as well, but haven't sent anybody yet.

Braves keep GM Frank Wren around. He signs a 2-year extension keeping him in Atlanta until 2014.

Finally, despite the Reds getting swept at home and out of the playoffs, ownership wants to keep Dusty Baker around. This was Dusty's last year on his deal, and GM Walt Jocketty planned on meeting with him today to offer him a short term deal. No word on if he took the deal or not.

Danbury is decidedly pro-Yankee. But as mentioned, I really do get the impression that moist of the people here just hop on the bandwagon in October. I'll see people rocking Yankee gear here and there during the season, but in October everybody morphs into the biggest fan.

I've got nothing against legit Yankee fans, it's their MANY bandwagon fans that make me want to see them fail.

It'd be cool to see a Giants/Yankees World Series, only for the following scenario of Melky hitting Buster Posey with a chair before the relay throw to the plate, allowing Cano to score. Melky tears off his Giants jersey to reveal Pinstripes. Joe Buck is screaming that Melky is the 3rd man.

Emperor Smeat
10-13-2012, 03:24 PM
Nats were always going to be looked on as dumbasses for completely shutdown Strasburg but probably could have avoided that situation had the manager pulled Storen once he started to really struggle instead of leaving him to completely meltdown in the 9th.

Pretty much this. Hartford is considered to be the halfway point between Boston and New York, and it essentially acts as the divider line between Red Sox and Yankee fans as well.

On the rare occasion that both teams are good or at least respectable (98-01, 05-08, etc.), there's normally some playful banter between Mets and Yankees fans. But now that only seems to exist during the Subway Series. Even my most harshest of Yankee fan friends don't really see the point in ripping on the Mets fans anymore since they are just so bad.

It could be possible since the Rangers already hinted they are letting him test the free agency market. Nobody really wants to offer him a monster deal that he's expecting and the big spenders (ex. Yanks, Dodgers, Red Sox) right now are not interested which should lower his value.

Shameless Yankee slugger Alex Rodriguez was playing so poorly against the Detroit Tigers Saturday night that he was yanked from the lineup — but that didn’t stop him from trying to score.

After being replaced in the bottom of the eighth inning in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series, the highest-paid Yankee openly flirted with a pair of pretty women two rows behind the dugout — even sending them a ball bearing a note asking for their phone numbers, a witness told The Post. “I watched him flirt with two admittedly very cute young women nearby,’’ the witness said.

Instead of rooting on his teammates as they struggled to stay alive during the tense game at Yankee Stadium, A-Rod, 37, had a ball boy toss the young women a baseball inscribed with a message asking for their numbers. “Alex was holding a pen and wrote a note on a ball which was thrown at the women by a ball boy,’’ the witness explained. “The girls, who had already caught two balls, seemed bemused at first and tried to hand the ball to another fan, but other fans noticed the note on it and yelled at them
to read it.

“The note asked them to write their phone numbers on the ball and throw it back,’’ the witness said.

“One of the girls, with darker blond hair, wrote . . . on the ball and threw it back at A-Rod, who gave her a big smile.” “They exchanged a few glances after that,’’ as A-Rod took a powder while a pinch hitter took his place at the plate. Raul Ibanez performed under pressure, tying the score in the bottom of the ninth.

In the 12th, team captain Derek Jeter broke his ankle — and A-Rod finally wised up, the witness said.

“The flirtation stopped once Derek Jeter got hurt,” the source said. The Yanks wound up losing 6-4.

They also lost again to the Tigers 3-0 on Sunday. Fans sitting behind the dugout at Saturday’s game said they were disgusted after witnessing A-Rod’s shenanigans, which were more befitting a sixth-grader than a serious ballplayer. “I was absolutely stunned that even . . . A-Rod would not be focusing on such a critical game, supporting his teammates, and was instead more interested in adding another couple of phone numbers to what must be a very, very large collection,’’ one said.

A-Rod’s rep referred questions to a team spokesman, who didn’t get back to The Post last night. Rodriguez is currently dating wrestler Torrie Wilson.

As Page Six revealed last year, Jeter also has used baseball memorabilia to win over the ladies.

After bedding a beauty, he’d send her home alone with gift baskets of autographed memorabilia.

He is dating model Hannah Davis, who was spotted in his family box Saturday.

A-Rod is in the biggest no-win situation ever. As long as he plays shittily, the media will scrutinize his every move and accuse him of being too complacent if he doesn't go into the dugout and throw shit. And then if he did that, they'd say he's not being a team player and should accept his benching in stride.

Have to blame him and the Yankees equally on that mess considering the Yankees still gave him a massive deal ($300+ million) knowing his later years would be bad and A-Rod himself never had a humble type attitude going back to his Seattle days.

His reputation also leans more towards the smug a-hole that folds a lot under pressure than being a great player like Jeter or Riveria.

 at Swisher just realizing now how tough the fans can really be when playing for the Yankees.

Gardner should have ben starting and hitting leadoff the entire postseason. Unless,he wasn't healthy, he shouldve been in there. Jeter could have hit third and lengthened the lineup out a bit since he was actually doing okay before his ankle have way.

And I'm sorry, but Arod isn't a great player like Jeter and Rivera? Arod is a greater player than both of them. Hes one of the greatest players on the history of the game, and had he not been inured the last 5 years, missing at least 20 games per, youre looking at over 3k hits, arguably over 700 homeruns, and still pretty productive in his mid 30s. Add to that he would have been the greatest shortstop in history had he not moved over, and it creates even more separation from the rest of the pack.Arod is on a completely different level of greatness than Jeter and Rivera.

Not for the playoffs which is what a lot of the major complaints about him have been about besides his one great year in 2009 and anytime against the Twins (04 and 09).

Even ESPN had a blog about it trying to disprove him as a playoff choker and could only do it by "cheating" to get his numbers to match Jeter's playoff numbers. Compared A-Rod's shorter playoff career vs Jeter's longer one and only looked at it according to pure stats and ignored actual impact.

My issue with postseason stats is than, in any given year, you can only play a max if 19 games. That upgraded to 20 with the new wild card format. I don't find three weeks of games to be a fair enough sample to make judgments.

Not to mention, Arods career slash line in the postbseason is 265/372/467 with 13 hr in 74 games. That would piece him for 30+ in any given year. Overall his numbers are good

You have to know going into a contact like Arod's, who was getting near the final chapter if his career, that youre not going to be getting $25-$30 mil worth if production. If they honestly thought that, the front office is filled with idiots, who lack an understanding of age and skill deterioration. Arod got that contact because hes a draw as a HOF caliber player who is nearing some pretty astounding milestone numbers that few have. That screams merchandise and ticket sales.

No other team was going to pay Arod what the Yankees did either. If they thought there was any shot of losing him to a higher bidder, they are morons. No team in any league was giving Arod more than what the Rangers initially signed him to. Not one. That contact falls on the lap of Yankees management outbidding themselves, not Arod for bluffing and winning out.
And I still baffled here. Exactly what is it that makes Jeter meter than Arods?

Girardi is getting grilled once the sports media saw his lineup for today's game. They've either been ridiculing him or saying its something you'd see as a Spring Training split squad game.

Also what started as a potential joke might have the possibility of A-Rod being traded to the Marlins during this offseason. Only team he's hinted in the past about playing for if he ever left the Yankees and only one willing to not have the Yankees eat up $80-$100 million to move him.

Dragon
10-17-2012, 06:26 PM
This obviously isn't just Girardi's doing. The moves to bench A-Rod must be coming from Cashman or higher ups.

They keep saying its a baseball decision, and that might make sense if the person replacing him wasn't 0 for the whole playoffs so far.

I don't know how they move him but I don't think they'd be doing this if they thought he'd be here for the next 5 years.
