Daron Sutton and Mark Grace both fired from the D-Backs broadcast booth. Gracie for most likely his 2nd DUI and Sutton for calling out Ken Kendrick and wearing nice suits while on air.

Diamondbacks hire former manager Bob Brenly as TV analyst
PHOENIX — Former Arizona manager Bob Brenly rejoined the Diamondbacks as a television analyst Thursday, a day after he left the Chicago Cubs’ broadcast crew.
The Diamondbacks also hired Steve Berthiaume to handle play-by-play duties on Fox Sports Arizona.
They replaced analyst Mark Grace and play-by-play broadcaster Daron Sutton.
Grace left voluntarily in August after his second drunken driving arrest in 15 months. Sutton was suspended on June 30 for unspecified “philosophical differences.”
The 58-year-old Brenly led Arizona to the 2001 World Series title. He was a broadcaster with the team from 1998-2000 and the manager from 2001-04. He spent the last eight seasons as a Cubs broadcaster.
Berthiaume is leaving ESPN, where he was a “Baseball Tonight” and “SportsCenter” host.
Greg Schulte is returning to his radio position after finishing the season on TV in place of Sutton.

Having Brenly back is very welcome, even though I enjoyed him and Len Kasper calling Cubs games immensely.

I'm thinking Boston sends Bard to Toronto to get Farrell back. Just a theory I read.
Yankees plan on exercising Curtis Granderson's option. No surprise.
Japanese hot shot Shohei Otani is expected to make his announcement on October 22nd to decide if he stays in Japan or comes to the U.S. to play baseball.

Would rather see the Giants win though. Tigers/Giants would be a fresh World Series matchup. If it's Tigers/Cardinals I'd probably have to put money on the Cards since they seem to have a horseshoe up their ass.

A guy called into WFAN saying the Mets should go after Swisher this off-season. I hope not. That guy is so damn annoying.
Plus the Yankees just made him a $13.3 million qualifying offer (qualifying offer replaces Type A/Type B free agents now)...so if Swisher declined the Yanks' offer and then went to Queens, the Mets would need to give up the 11th overall pick in the draft. Fuck that.
Evil Vito

Come to think...Swisher should probably just accept the Yanks' offer. I know he might want a multi-year deal, but there is no way he'll get $13.3 million a year from any other team.

I'd take a couple of bats for Farrell. He's terrible.
Probably only going to get pitching considering the lack of any real quality bats that didn't get called up (no to Ciriaco, Iglesias, or Gomez).
Be lucky to get Bard and maybe one of the former Dodgers prospects but not Ivan De Jesus or Rubby De La Rosa since the team has plans for them next year.
I've heard some speculation of Doubront being included but the Red Sox would have to be morons to get rid of him after his great rookie season.

Beane is a genius. The A's gave up a minor league 3B with a sub-.300 OBP, got Chris Young in return, AND the D-Backs are throwing cash to Oakland to help pay for him.
Yordy Cabrera sounds like a total non-factor, yet the Marlins still have to be happy with the deal as it gets their clubhouse cancer off the team AND it sounds like the D-Backs are footing the bill for Bell's entire contract too.
Don't really know what the D-Backs are doing. Pennington isn't even a good throw in, he's a dime a dozen infielder. If Bell reverts to the old Bell than it's a win-win-win deal I guess, but they're assuming all the risk in this trade.

Chris Young is retardedly overrated and was paid on potential that has not and may not ever fulfill itself. the D'Backs have ridiculous outfield depth (Kubel/Eaton/Upton/Parra/Pollock). They have a huge hole at short. Pennington plays plus D at the most important defensive position period. Someone has to hit 8th. Another plus bullpen arm never hurt anyone, especially on these Kevin Towers teams.

Seems odd that is all the Jays wanted or got considering Aviles is decent but probably could have swapped him for 2 prospects. His numbers are decent but in terms of position, was basically just "warming" the SS spot until José Iglesias was ready or the team wanted him playing more.
Damian Rey
10-21-2012, 02:05 PM
I thought the Jays would have asked for something a little steadier long term. But it does solve their short term issue with Escobar.
Gertner

Aviles will probably get moved to second base, with Kelly Johnson leaving. Escobar can still go though. Hechivarria FTW

I think Aviles is better spotted at third. He has the arm, and I think hes too limited in range to play up the middle.

This is going to be an exceptional series. Was disappointed (heartbroken really) when it was announced Lincecum would not start Game 2. Zito versus Verlander is interesting because Zito is either going to give up 5 runs in 6 innings or 1 run in 7 innings. But he's going to have to be at his best if he wants to even threaten JV
Damian Rey
10-24-2012, 11:56 AM

Pretty interesting that Fielder's out ended up being the first time the number order for the out call ever occurred in a World Series.
Although stupid to have sent Fielder running to home considering rule of thumb is not to send fat guys home if they are on first.

Yeah, that’s not going to happen VC. I guarantee that being in Comerica for the time being will be just what the doctor ordered. It’s no secret that Detroit has played horribly on the road all season (with the one major exception being the A.L.C.S.) and won a ton of games at home. I don’t see this ending in less than 6, and I still believe in my Tigers.

Detroit should have a better chance today considering weather might be a factor (mid to low 40s) which benefits them a bit more than San Fran.
Although Detroit's problem has been their strong offense basically no showed the first two games while San Fran has been a beast on offense since Game 5 against the Cards.

That’s what happens when you expend all that energy on creating extra runs, then have 3 days off between the CS and WS. You get somewhat rusty, whether or not you simulate games in between. Still there really is no excuse for the lack of run support behind the pitchers for DET.
Hopefully Scherzer throws a real "diamond in the rough" kind of game and we get a shit-ton of run support behind him. It's the only way we really have even the slightest glimmer of hope to even push this bad boy to a game 5 at this point.
And SK said something else that was exactly what I was thinking...'06 all over again. Except so far we're down 3-0. At least the '06 team won ONE game. If we can't match that, then (I hate to say this, BUT...) the Tigers really are pathetic.
Add to all this the fact that no team in World Series history has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit to erase it and then win a game 7 to capture the World Championship and you've got a sure-fire recipe (at least right now) for

He attacked that streak with no fear of making a play. It was pretty outstanding to watch for us Cubs fans that kept watching into August. Then of course he choked like a true Cub, but none the less, he deserves it the most this year. You cant give that shit to Phillip just because he wins a ton of them all the time. Fuck that.
