Thats okay. The "little to no respect" card worked for the GMen last year.

worked for the Pats in 01 and 03...

I almost prefer that to the greatest team crap...

was funny in 2004 everyone finally started giving them the respect and you still had players trying to psych themselves up by saying "no one respects us" and you had reporters going "you're kidding right?"

Favre is already complaining of Arm Fatigue..

I'll lmfao if he hangs it up without playing a game and the Jets and they have Kellen Clemens as QB.

Went to the training camp today. Took some pretty shitty shots since my camera doesn't have a zoom lens. But whatever here are a few pics:

Favre didn't really throw that much. It was a lot of Clemens and Ainge and Ratliff. He did throw a few though including a couple deep passes and his arm seemed pretty good 2 me.

Also Rachel Nichols was there and some hispanic kid shouted at her saying he would be "watching her all season" and she looked up and then kept walking by.

Arm fatigue? He acts like he throws the ball or something.

yeah but, this isn't december when he's done it 10K times, this is day 5 of practice...

He's not worried, so could be nothing big...

but when you have a 38yr old QB, who originally was retired, didn't participate in any team off-season conditioning programs and is already feeling Arm Fatigue...

it could be nothing, but it's not exactly a good sign either.

I hope Farve drops dead in the middle of a game. I hate him.

The way he has held Green Bay hostage the last few years (Will he or wont he?) They finally were ready to move on (investing a major pick in his replacement that they could have used elsewhere had he not jerked them around) and now he came back and ruined the Team's image in their City so that he can play again, and worked his way out of town. How can anyone root for a prick like that?

that was my assumption when they brought him in to talk right after Tank went down.

Makes sense in that roll, and his age/speed shouldn't be an issue there, I don't see him being asked to man-up on top WR's in the league.

Go Ellis, the younger the player the more years you can wear it...

found a drawer with some old ones...

have an old orange elway, aikman, favre, I think Ken Norton... I remember a site years ago had the replicas on sale and I bought a bunch... used most of them as gifts..

Oh, I love the Patriots... "throw backs" are like 30-50 more then current players and I'm not just talking "pat patriot red" unifrms, like the first flying Elvis with Vincent Brown was more money.

Troy Brown was the regular player price... wonder if he officiall retires if the price goes up...

Also, WTF with the Patriots selling black uniforms... I don't remember them ever, ever, ever wearing an all black uni.

Evil Vito
08-16-2008, 10:35 AM
Yeah, younger the better...though I'm not really big on rookie jerseys.

I think I got my Shockey jersey after his great rookie year. It served me well for 3 or so years but by then the numbers were starting to fade a bit, and I wound up making the mistake of getting an older player jersey. I got a Tiki Barber jersey and seriously he announced his retirement a week later.

I figured "well, it's ok...I can still wear it as he'll always be remembered"...then once he became a total prick I pretty much retired the jersey and stuck with the worn out Shockey on game days for another year. :o

Now that he's gone, I've got a brand new Tuck jersey and I got my dad an Umenyiora for his birthday. Defensive ends 4tw

I was tempted to get an away jersey after last year's success on the road but the fact that there's no blue in them still bothers me a bit.

Weird ass ending to the Jets game.

Redskins were up 13-10.

5 seconds left in the 4th.

Jets at the Skins 6 yd line. 3rd and goal.

Mangini decides to kick a fg to send it to overtime for some reason?

And Mike Nugent misses the 23 yd fg and the Jets lose anyway. Preseason yeah but I dunno kinda dumb.

wasn't trying to make it bigger then it was, but it wasn't a good sign.

he's old, he's not in "game shape", he has a new system to learn and has admitted many times he loves to play but hates to study...

I just still think this was a really bad move for the Jets, (which of course makes me happy), but time will tell.

How is it a bad move?

They would not have done anything with Pennington this year.

Clemens also hasn't been that great. Being a backup under Favre will help him "develop". They would have been like 5-11 I bet if Clemens started this year.

Also just the publicity factor. Everyone is talking about and watching the Jets now.

Jason "TOAST" David is the worst cornerback in the league.. Byfar.. Bobby Herbert was saying that he thinks Payton is keeping him with alot of playing time in the preseason, allowing himself to prove he's the same overpaid piece of shit he was last year.. So when he cuts him in the next week or two, no arguement will ensue..

Fuck Jason David in his stupid ass..

Gonna be interesting to watch the G-Men tomorrow seeing as their top 5 receivers are all not gonna play (Burress, Toomer, Smith, Tyree, Manningham).

Domenik Hixon, Sinorice Moss, Michael Jennings, DJ Hall, and Craphonso Thorpe are gonna be pretty much auditioning for Tyree and Manningham's spots since they are both probably gonna start on the PUP list.

Gonzo

I think Hixon is pretty secure based on his return abilities, unless they decide to go with Bradshaw instead.

Evil Vito
08-17-2008, 09:10 PM
Yeah Hixon is prolly the safest bet, but he's also playing for more playing time with the injuries.

Another guy I forgot to mention is Brandon London, supposedly he's been impressing in camp.

If Tyree and Manningham are both headed for the PUP list (Tyree is almost a foregone conclusion, not sure on Manningham)...at least 3 of those WR are gonna make the team...possibly even 4 if nobody establishes themselves as a 3rd TE

True, it will help with people following the Jets, how many Favre jerseys do you think get shipped to WI?

I just think they still wont make the playoffs with him and to give up a pick which is a young/potential player for a gun slinger who will now be in a "system" where before he was the "system" just didn't make a lot of sense to me... they'd have been better with chad and keeping the pick. but time will tell.

Nah, no way does he get the jets into the Playoffs. He will throw his 25th INT in a loss in week 16, and tuck his tail and retire.

Bingo, so the Jets will be worse then before because next year they wont have a pick and they'll have no QB. Plus, had they played it right they could have gotten some type of conditional pick for Chad.

good thing Brady never gets injured

Word is he didn't make the Tampa trip due to an "sore foot"... I'd worry about this as much as I'd worry about people who are worried about Manning this year.

There were people in Buffalo calling for the Bills to go after farve.

Which I think is retarded. For a team like Chicago, that has an established playoff calibur team but sucks at QB, it would work, but for Buffalo and the Jets, 2 rebuilding teams, it is retarded, because even if he plays solid, you are still needing a Franchise QB. I dont think the Jets are that much better with Farve, because they need so much more.

Trading for Farve is something you do to win NOW, gambling the future for present success, which is exactly the opposite of what the Jets should have been doing.

VonErichLives

Clemens also hasn't been that great. Being a backup under Favre will help him "develop".

that's another thing, Favre had said many times in GB when they had younger back ups it isn't his job to teach... so I'm not sure that would help Clemens, especially if he doesn't have Favre's arm and tries to play the same way.

It's possible Manning might not play the opening game.

Really? Even if he does I'm not worried, he had a bursa sack removed... he should be fine.

that was my point with the Jets, they weren't just a QB away from competing for a SB... Chicago it would have made sense, Tampa it would have made sense. NYJ it's silly, he doesn't win them a Division, he doesn't put them in a SB and they gave up a pick and a year where they could have been grooming Clemens (if that's their guy)

They aren't really gambling anything though. At worst a second round pick, in return for a year (or maybe 2?) of Favre. I will take that. Like I said they weren't gonna do shit with Pennington or Clemens this year. IT would have been a terrible year regardless. I don't think Clemens is gonna be their franchise QB of the future so they don't have a QB regardless. It is not like they are trading away a ton of promising young players and three draft picks for Favre. It's one draft pick for a winning season and a trip to the playoffs (10-6 WATCH) and thousands of Favre jerseys sold, and a media circus around the Jets. They are on the front page of every paper in NY. Not the Super Bowl champ Giants.

Yeah first team threw down. Domenik Hixon solidified himself a roster spot. Two receiving TD's and a return TD in the first quarter. Big ups to him. Nice to see him play that well with/against the first teams.

ANYWAYS, want to see more Kenny Phillips and Andre Woodson in the second half.

Draft picks are worth so much more than money these days, especially to a NY team with deep pockets IMHO.

But yes, they are going to make mad money off this, good point.

I just dont see it panning out. Even with Farve I dont see the J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets finishing any higher than 3rd in the AFC East, no way does that get them a playoff spot. Maybe next year, but Farve will be even another year older, so then in the end, they get 2 years of Farve, and are abck at square one.

BTW, does anyone see the Farve/Rodgers/Brohm thing playing out like Montana/Young/Bono? :) Does that mean the Jets can plan on getting Brohm in a few years?

This guy Syndric Steptoe for the Browns has been real impressive too, too bad they already have an all star kick returner in Cribbs because he could be pretty dangerous in that role.

Are you serious? He got picked up by a team? Stima, you've just made my day.

I was hoping the Cards would have taken him as a return guy because I don't see Breaston/Arrington panning out. It could really help us out now too since Boldin wants out (no one saw that coming though). He had so many good returns at UofA. I thought he was going to be in NFL europe forever or something.

GLORIOUS NEWS. Now maybe they can cut him so the Cards can pick him up.

RoXer
08-21-2008, 07:30 AM
And as far Boldin leaving, if he wants to then let him. I really think money is the issue at hand but he claims it's something else. I'd wish he stick around for 1 more year and if the Cards do jack shit (which they will) then he should ask for the trade in the off season. But if he really wants out then the Cards should shop heavily.

not sure about the others, also remember not all casinos are the same and if a not of money comes in on one side they may adjust the line or payout.

Offense has been ok, the D-back field has been an issue, the Line has looked good, but I have a fear of Harrison and Lynch out there at the same time getting spun like tops...

the little I watched last night no one seemed to know how to tackle.

Mayo has looked good though.

that and I put little stock in pre-season for an established team, good teams with a core that has been together a few years just need to not get injured.

Heck, last year I don't think Moss even played in the pre-season.

I'd bet you money but I know you'd never pay.

By the way, (and this is a question, not a digg at the Colts)there is a rumor going around that Manning is in worse shape then thought and he had a 2nd surgery to clean out an infection and is still having swelling problems and when he tries to move the knee to rehab it causes more swelling.

the source is Michael Lombardi, current SI writer and former NFL exec that worked in player personel for a few teams and considered a reliable source...

I know the Colts have denied he had a 2nd surgery...

So, RP... what's the word in Indy? (people have fantasy drafts ya know!)

I'm hope its not true, but everyone in Indy thinks its not a credible source. But Indy has a history of being shadey with reporting the truth about there injured players. We heard all last year that Marvin could play if it was the playoffs, then he gets in the playoff game obviously injured, probably cost us that game with his fumble. And as for Matt Ryan starting, Atlanta will be a playoff contender next year. Should be fun to watch him.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer treated for broken nose

CINCINNATI — Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer broke his nose during Saturday night's pre-season game against the New Orleans Saints, but coach Marvin Lewis said he should be ready for the regular season opener.
Lewis said in a statement Sunday that Palmer had a small crack in one of his nose bones and it took doctors about 10 minutes to put it back in place.
Palmer is listed as questionable for Cincinnati's pre-season finale Thursday at Indianapolis, but is expected to start the opener Sept. 7 against Baltimore.
The team said fourth-year quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick will make his first Bengals pre-season start if Palmer is unable to play.
Palmer was sacked three times by the Saints in the first half, the last on a safety blitz by Kevin Kaesviharn with two seconds left. The quarterback walked off the field with blood spilling down the front of his face, his nose already showing a prominent bump. He didn't return for the second half.
Palmer got knocked to the ground five times during a 27-10 loss to Detroit a week earlier.
He was 11-of-16 against the Saints for 105 yards, working without Pro Bowl receivers T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Chad Johnson due to injury. Two of their backups also were hurt in the week leading up to the game.

Theres two weeks until week one and he has been decidedly retired for a while now so I doubt he is keeping in 'football shape'. I think the Giants chances of getting Strahan back are slim to none. If he came back, I'd assume he'd have to get back into football shape first...so move Kiwi to the line while using Strahan as a situational pass rush guy until he's ready to start.

6 teams don't need to be better than them.

Assuming they don't win the division (Which I definitely can't see them doing) there only needs to be two teams that didn't win their division better than them.

That is true but I think they will get over it unless more players start going down. The Giants defense always seems to be decimated by injuries every year.

Well if they move Kiwi back to DE they will still have depth, plus another player who is a natural DE, not a converted LB. However it remains to be seen who they will plug in at the SLB in place of Kiwi, if that move is made. I think Tuck will be able to produce, but there needs to be a viable threat or some damn creative schemes in order to maintain the Giants defensive philosophy.

They need to pick up a big play receiver though

Are you kidding? Roddy White might be one of the best kept secrets from last year. Our receiving core has actually got me excited...they've been catching a whole lot more than during the Vick era.

Coughlin announced today that, for the moment (ie barring Strahan), the plan is for Kiwi to be at DE...Danny Clark starts at SLB with Gerris Wilkinson getting the nod at WLB.

Before this, they had 9 LB but likely only 7 spots. Kiwi, Pierce, Wilkinson, Clark, DeOssie, Kehl, Goff, Blackburn, and Daniels.

Now Kiwi's back to DE...and Goff might have to go on IR or the PUP list or something, so all of them probably are safe now.

Here me now... believe me later.

Nest season... The Atlanta Falcons... will go 8-8 and contend late for a playoff spot.

I think Matt Ryan is that good.

David Carr was good, until he got sacked 10 times a game for 5 years..

THEY HAVE NO O-LINE

Also, they lost every single "super star" they had.. Vick, Hall, Crumpler, and Dunn.. Yeah, they got a good second string RB who has the potential to be great, but he hasn't proven that he is an elite back as of yet.. Same can be said for Ryan.. Sure he was good in college, but so was Danny Wuerffel..

David Carr is such a good qb. I can't believe no team would make him their starting QB. His problem was that his team sucked, it's like saying a pitcher is bad because he lost 15 games

Gonzo
08-26-2008, 04:43 PM
I've always thought he could play well given the chance with a decent team, but the poor guy had the unfortunate situation of being on a team where he got the shit kicked out of him year in and year out. During the Browns game the announcers had mentioned that Carr was admittedly skittish in the pocket and tried to get rid of the ball as quick as possible due to the amount of times he used to get hit. Imagine if he had the chance to start with a decent line in front of him what he might be able to do.

Thats why I've always thought that the NFL requires a little bit of luck. You need the talent, but you need the luck to fall into the right situation to succeed as well.

The point I was trying to make was that Carr was good in college.. He even took Fresno State to a top 10 ranking.. He was hyped coming into the league, picked in the first round, and def had (or has) the skills to win in the NFL.. But he never got there because of the shitty team around him.. For people to say how great the Falcons are gonna be when they lost every "superstar" they've had this decade, have a new, first time, head coach, no receiving corp, no defense, and their biggest offensive weapons are a second year RB, and potentially good, yet unproven backup RB, and an unproven rookie QB, I def wouldn't grantee too many "great" things from them for the next few years..

Well you could be 100% right, David Carr and Matt Ryan after very different players. Carr played in Jeff Tedford's system which has produced some other extremely over hyped college QBs (due to their stats in college) such as Kyle Boller and Joey Harrington. Matt Ryan played in an NFL style offense and excelled in it in his first year (Boston College switched its coaching staff for his senior year)

But is still unproven..

It just amazes that a team striped of any bit of credibility, with no stars left, people are picking to be great within the next year..

As I've said numerous times, sure they gained Turner, who has the potential to be good, but has never been a premiere back.. Same with Ryan.. He is a good QB, but hasn't proven himself at the pro level.. That topped with the fact they have no out standing WR, lost their probowl TE to the Titans, have a struggling o-line, and lost the only shutdown player they had on defense (Hall), I just don't see how people are crowning them as a great team with so many unporven elements, and loosing what proven elements they had..

Bingo!

I'm not picking the Falcons to be great, but I wouldn't be shocked to see them compete for a WC or possible the division.

I'm just not 100% sold on anyone in that division and it's not just Ryan for me, it's Turner, any SD fan I've talked to thinks he can be just as good as LT, maybe even better...

sure, he could be a bust, but so could everyone...

the OL issues are a good point and I hope that will be a target next year, but Ryan is a big guy and can take a hit.

fuck... is it week 1 yet..

Out with the old, in with the new for the Falcons.

Curtis Lofton looks to be a beast this year. Roddy White should do well considering he caught 1000 yards with the QBs we had last year. Sam Baker looks to contribute immediately. Jerious Norwood is ridiculous as a change-of-pace back.

There is so much to like about this Falcons team for me.

I mean, D. Hall left, what's not to like?

Yeah those are all good points (although Roddy White is a pretty good WR, I dunno if he's "outstanding" but he's an NFL #1 in my mind) about the Falcons. I dunno if they are gonna compete this year or next but I think they'll be a lot better than last year, last year was just a complete shitshow thanks to the whole Vick thing.

I'm really not going to argue my feeling that Atlanta is about a year away from crawling out of the basement. I'm just VERY high on Matt Ryan and think he is a player an entire team can be built around, they should be able to run the ball and I think they could make strides on defense. They've got some pretty good players. Like Houston just kinda quietly became a team to talk about last year, I feel like Atlanta is the team to do the same next year.

As for this year, I can see them winning a couple games that will catch people's eye but ultimately finishing last in the division probably. Who knows though.

David Carr played for Carolina last year when Delhomme went down and was absolutely awful. The guy can't play in the NFL, maybe he could've once upon a time but not now.

Hall is the ultimate hype player. Mouth over substance. He'll probably look like he played real well this year but only because teams just won't throw at Asomugha.

Kris P Lettus
08-27-2008, 12:29 PM
Horn and Colston used to also eat him up.. The point I was trying to make, who else on their D was of that caliber??

Keith Brooking??

Pat Kerney??

They got rid of every superstar they had..

That was the point..

Boomer
08-27-2008, 12:48 PM
Getting rid of the Falcon's "superstars" made sense. Whether they were past their prime or whether we were trying to save some money, they all made sense. I love Dunn and Crumpler, but their best years both look to be behind them (Dunn for sure). D. Hall was a pain and would have commanded far too much money. The Falcons needed new faces and got them.

And its not like every superstar is gone. Michael Boley and John Abraham are still around. Brooking is too, though past his prime. Luckily, he'll be playing weak side because of Curtis Lofton, so he doesn't have to be the center of our LB core anymore.

Here's to hoping this is a breakout year for White. Turner too.

Kris P Lettus
08-27-2008, 12:59 PM
Dunn is past his prime but getting rid of Crumpler was a mistake IMO..

And about Boley, if he can keep his hitting of people on the field he'll be alright.. Odell Thurman of the South..

I like you're theories.

"I'll argue 'What's the point of making it to the playoffs if you don't win' but I'll ignore 'What's the point of winning a playoff game is you don't even win a conference championship'"

And my favorite "I'll argue 'living in the past' but then, more recently my team missed the playoffs while his didn't, so I don't wanna live in the present either... I just wanna live in that one small piece of time where my team was seemingly better and act like, for some reason, THAT is the time period that matters above all else."
