what the fuck is the Padres deal? playing very very well lately
Does Jeter have a shot at 4,000 hits? I didnt realize how close he was to 3k and he's only like 35 or 36 i think? If he plays 5 or 6 more seasons? I guess he wouldnt quite get there, but he seems on his way to 3500 hits.
Triple Naitch

I'd say it's possible but not likely. His defensive skills are declining which means as he ages he won't get enough opportunities to play the field or all 9 innings.

Possible if he switches to a DH spot but his style doesn't go well with a DH style player since he isn't that much of a power hitter.
Ichiro is probably the closet anyone will get to Pete Rose if you include his time in Japan or assumed that his MLB numbers would double if he had started his career in MLB and not Japan.

Wow, Delgado is still hoping to come back for the last two weeks of the season. I'm conflicted.
On one hand, he's worked so hard to come back to prove he can still play, it almost seems fair to him to give him a shot, making him sit the rest of the year after all of that wouldn't seem fair to the guy.
Then again, Delgado probably won't be on the 2010 roster and Daniel Murphy has been batting over .300 the last 7 weeks. Murph is gonna be playing winter ball to wrap up a long year of baseball, but still. He's probably the 1B of the future. Tough call.

Apparently Boston offered Buchholz, Masterson, Bowden, Hagadone and Reddick for Halladay at the trade deadline.
Pretty surprising Toronto didn't jump on that considering they are giving up 1 year (I think) of Halladay. What more could they have expected? Apparently Ricciardi was worried about Halladay hurting them in 2010. Now they get Halladay for one year where they most likely won't compete and get nothing after he's gone.
I don't follow the Sox system at all but I've obviously seen Buchholz and Masterson. And heard of Bowden and Reddick being pretty big prospects.
Emperor Smeat
09-15-2009, 06:51 PM
Boston's farm system right now is set so it develops a lot of pitchers for either bullpen or starters and then when they need a specific spot (like a catcher), they begin to develop that spot. For example, Kevin Cash basically was being groomed by the Red Sox to replace Varitek when he was ready but Yankees signed him before the start of this season.
Emperor Smeat
09-15-2009, 06:56 PM
Toronto's GM is also a moron. He tried to start a bidding war between yankees, red sox, and a few other teams and then kept raising the offer required when he could have gotten decent players from the original offers. By the time the trade deadline approached, everyone saw his tactic and decided not to do anything and Halladay ends up not being traded.
Triple Naitch
09-15-2009, 07:31 PM
Kevin Cash is, was, and always will be horrible. I highly doubt the Sox wanted him to be the heir apparent.
Emperor Smeat
09-15-2009, 08:05 PM
It was more of them not wanting to keep trading away players just to get an experienced catcher and try to develop one themselves. It just turned out for last 3-4 years they tried with him.
According to wikipedia, Yankees bought him so Red Sox couldn't use him but even they got rid of him from the main roster and minor league teams. Since Red Sox have Victor Martinez now, no need for Cash.

DAMN iNATOR
09-15-2009, 11:51 PM
Not really concerned with Ordoñez, as much as the Tigers as a whole. They need to get their fucking act together...we lost and the Twins won, which puts us only 4½ up on them with 18 games left to play, and a good portion of those are against Minnesota, not to mention starting with tonight, we play all intra-AL Central teams the rest of the season.
It's figuring to be a long end to the season if Detroit doesn't learn to start winning and in a big fucking hurry, too.

Giants-Rockies so far has been the best Race for a playoff spot last few weeks/months. Seems like this year's September is sort of boring with most of the division races being too far apart between number 1 & 2. Normally more divisions would be closer and make the average September much more exciting.

Remind me again why I fucking hate the Yankees? The Yanks plucked 6 of our batters last week in the 4 game series, hit Encarnacion and Hill tonight, and the one time we brush back one of their guys, they pull a bitch move. Carlson throws between 87-89 and weighs about 160. I can't wait till their horseshit pitching staff emplodes in the playoffs.
If i have to see A-Rod trot around the bases with that " I'm relieved that everyone now knows i'm gay " smile on his face, one more time, i'll probably kill myself.

Mmmmmm. Anybody see Minnesota beating out Detroit for the AL central spot?
Fuck I hope not, after we've held the top spot since early May, but we've only got a 2 game lead over them with 14 to play for each team left. If my boys are going to have any chance at all, it had better start with them playing for real tomorrow, and at least salvaging one fucking game against the Twins.
After tomorrow, we start a 3-game series with Cleveland, and yet, even that bothers me, because we have not fared well against the bottom of the barrel AL Central teams, even though we should be able to handle them easily.
Even worse, we wrap up the final 11 games after Cleveland with alternating series' against the White Sox and the Twins. The only good news I can see in all this is that there's 7 away and 7 home games, and we are wrapping up the last 7 at home, and we've been much better at home.
Still we face the unhappy prospect of only being a ½ game up on Minnesota come Tuesday, when we next play after tomorrow, as Monday is an off day for Detroit. We really need to get the most out of our pitching and get the bats making some serious noise the rest of the season, or else I don't see us making the playoffs this year. :'(

You know...despite the fact that this has been an extremely long season for the Mets, as a fan, I still feel like it flew the fuck by. It feels like just yesterday that I was cutting classes on a Monday, staying home and watching the Mets beat the Reds in a fairly boring Opening Day game but was so ecstatic because the bullpen held a 2-1 lead. I can just imagine where they might have wound up had they not had every player on the roster injured.
But now there are only 2 weeks left, and for about a month and a half now the games have felt like early auditions for the 2010 team. Just feels so weird how such a long marathon of a season can fly by even when the team sucks.

SO WAIT A MINUTE. Let's clear this up.
Say the Dodgers end up with the best record in the NL. They can't play the Rockies (assuming they get the Wild Card) in the first round, because they are in the same division right? That means LA would play either Philly or STL in the first round?
DaveBrawl
09-21-2009, 02:51 PM
Yep, I believe that's how it works which is great because 7+ straight losses (last 3 games of the season and 4 in the first round, plus however many they've lost at this point already) to the Dodgers would really suck.

Delcarmen sucks as usual. Him and Javier Lopez were probably the worst bullpen pitchers Red Sox have last 2-3 years. At least Red Sox were smart enough to put Lopez into the minor leagues before season started.
I thought when Red Sox was getting Billy Wagner, they would demote Delcarmen since he has a bad habit of making a blowout game into a close game or getting sloppy when he is asked for 1-2 outs.

Detroit and Minnesota are still in a pretty tight race (2.5 game difference), with 11 games to go: 1 more against Cleveland tonight, 3 against the White Sox this weekend, 4 against Minnesota themselves (UGH. I'd keep Tek for when Bucholz pitches since he still is one of the best when it comes to being with a young pitcher but agree that V-Mart needs to catch for everyone else or at least be used as a DH if Ortiz struggles.
I just hope that Delcarmen is nowhere near the roster when playoffs come since he's their most inconsistent bullpen player and basically messes up more than he should be.

I think if anyone has a small chance to make the playoffs, its the Braves. Colorado does have a pretty brutal ending schedule, and the Braves play the Nats for two and the Marlins for one. It probably won't happen, but it could.

Cards are basically #1 in NL with titles and have been the most consistent team last few years, Cardinals are more of a regional team than national team. ESPN for the past decade mostly focuses on big city/area teams even if a different area has a better story. Also didn't help that NL Central was weaker than usual while the NL West came out of no where to be an interesting division this year.
ESPN basically did same thing last year with Yankees and almost ignored Mets stadium was in its final year for almost the whole season.

I'm aware of all of that...it still pisses me off though. ESPN is weird in that it will seem more biased towards the Yanks or Sox, whoever is playing better. I seem to remember they didn't even give Mets attention in 2006, when they had a 97 win campaign...because the Yanks had that many wins as well. I miss 2006. :(
And while it did irk me a bit how little press Shea got in its final year, because I personally loved Shea...I can't really argue with the fact that Yankee Stadium had infinitely more history. really scared.....again about these playoffs. I don't like the rotation, especially with Pettite going Game 3. Verlander is pitching game 1, so they could easily be down 2-0 if Burnett doesn't show up. Then we put our hopes on Andy Pettite and possibly Joba Chamerlain if Pettite gets tagged early. I've seen this movie before. And it doesn't help that everyone is already writing in a Yanks/Sox ALCS.

Detroit had hitting in 2006. Not this year. Granderson can't hit lefties to save his life. Inge is doing shit all, Maggs is a singles hitter. Laird and Everett are awful. Verlander is their only pitcher that you can count on. Edwin Jackson has had a terrible second half. Porcello has never pitched in the playoffs, and Bonine and Robertson are average at best. You'll be fine.

CC vs. Verlander is about as even as you can get. Although CC will be facing a weaker lineup. Burnett vs. Jackson isn't as lopsided as I once thought it was. Jackson has gotten worse each month this year. I actually like the Pettitte/Porcello matchup anyway. Andy has always been big in the playoffs and has been great the second half.

So fucking disgusted with my boys in Detroit right now. Not only did they drop the perfect fucking chance to grab their first pennant since '87 (yeah, practically pre-history, I know...), in the process Jim Leyland gets his ass tossed because he came out and argued 2 calls with head umpire Angel Hernandez, and stupid fucking Bonderman, after being warned by the same ump for hitting a Minnesota player, starts the 9th inning with his first pitch hitting a guy dead in the knee. Oh, and the best part...we damn near had all hell break loose, as after that stupid pitch by Bonderman, both benches cleared out onto the field.
Only way to rectify this now is to win one sometime between now and Sunday and have Minnesota lose on the same night, or win 2 out of 3 with Chicago...certainly wouldn't be surprised (disappointed? Hell yes, I would be...) by a collapse in these last 3 games, but Detroit really needs to step up big in both the offensive and defensive departments in these final 3 games, or we could be on the outside looking in.

You can't give away players. I think the Rios thing had a lot to do with it. That, plus his handling of Halladay this trade deadline.

As did Koskie's contract, Thomas's contract, Hinske's contract, Burnett's contract, Ryan's contract, not being able to draft.

Yeah but the contracts, even inflated were gambles that didn't pan out. Not good, but they are nothing like making the franchise look terrible to the team's fans and to baseball in general. Rios and Halladay's handling did that.
He was junk.

Yeah, Ricciardi probably had it coming to him when he was playing puppetmaster at the trade deadline with Halladay. Or was it letting Alex Rios go for nothing?
I hear Kevin Towers is on his way out of San Diego.....

lolllllll Dodgers, you can do it!

Dodgers are not a team built for the playoffs at all. Regardless of what happens doesn't make much difference, IMO.

LOts of players are saying really good things about J.P. Richardi. Pretty much a mutiny in the clubhouse over Cito Gaston though. What ashit way to end the year, coupled with 2 losses (so far) to Baltimore. Not going to be ahappy ending to the year. It was looking good with 9 wins out of 10 and a major league leading amount of HRs and stuff of that nature.

Bobby Valentine is reportedly in talks with the Marlins about "a position". Loria is pissed that the Marlins didn't make the postseason despite 87 wins.
Ugh it would be one final kick in the crotch if Bobby V signs with the Marlins. Jerry Manuel is a likable guy but if the Mets don't have the money to spend to fill all of their holes next year, I'd much sooner trust Bobby to get more out of young guys or middle of the road players.

I'd say Bobby is the perfect guy to help fix the Mets. Let Freddi Gonzalez finish what he's started in Florida.
